    I'm recovering from a stress fracture too. It went almost 3 months and it's getting better every day. So i started cycling a few days ago to build up my fitness, muscles and bones.

    I suffered from a stress fracture in my foot in July 2020. I suffered from a stress fracture in my femur Feb 2024. And I’m now, again, suffering from a stress fracture in my foot (July 2024). I have suffered from these stress fractures while breastfeeding. I have been researching and learned that women’s bone density decreases as much as 1%-3% PER MONTH during breastfeeding. I breastfed all three of my babies at least 1 year each and my stress fractures happened around 1 year postpartum. I have also read that bone density returns to normal 6-18 months post weaning. I’m sharing this information bc I do not believe running, breastfeeding, and bone density is talked enough within the running community! I’m just not sure there’s enough R&D on the subject.

    It’s only been 10 weeks since my diagnosed stressed fracture started from overrunning and I’m feeling better. But it’s definitely not time to run. I can tell it’s not healed, it’s just been a reduction in pain.

      My stress fracture was upper hip where the femur meets the pelvic. I did not run at all for appx 3 months straight. The pain eventually subsided and I’m running 2-3 mile per day, working back into it. I went from 25mi weekly avg up to 40-60mi week avg within an 8-10 week timeframe. In other words I ramped up too fast. This caused my stress fracture.

    so when at the recovery phases do one start the strength training with squats, deadlifts etc heavy? Is it once you can walk pain free after the 3-4 weeks of no load bearing of for example the foot?

    • @NathanCarlson
      @NathanCarlson  11 дней назад +1

      I will normally have patients complete 1-2 weeks of exercise with body weight or band before advancing to squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc with external load.

    • @eskility
      @eskility 11 дней назад +1

      @@NathanCarlsonthank you for the reply! So when can you start body weight exercises? The same time you start walking, in other words, after the initial 3-4 weeks of no weight bearing?

    • @NathanCarlson
      @NathanCarlson  9 дней назад

      @@eskility with most of my patients I'll have them complete 1 week of ADLs and then begin progression to bodyweight exercises.

    • @eskility
      @eskility 8 дней назад

      @@NathanCarlson thank you again. I guess it is smart to keep doing bodyweight for a while before adding heavy strength training then? How many months after no pain in ADL before it can be resumed? Squats with 5x5 100kg and unilateral calf raises for example? I would assume that puts a big load on the metarsals.

    I was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the ankle about six months ago. I wore a stirrup for 3 months and the doctor told me that everything was fine. I have been very careful not to irritate it. I have not gone back to running (nor even long walks). I was doing squats the other day, and am feeling the pain and irritation that I initially felt. I feel like I am back at "square one". Can squats do that? (Very frustrating!)
