The Triumph is a nice styling exercise.
But the mighty Desert Sled! I love this bike for 2 reasons: It's dead serious and in that regard a real alternative to the dualsports. And the looks! Can't help but finding the Desert Sled one of the most beautiful bikes on the market.

I’ve popped some Dank Woolies on my street scrambler, and I’ve been ran off the road and had to jump the curb with no other issues than bending my front rim a little. I’ve had it off road on everything from loose gravel roads to single tracks and spent all day touring on it as well. I’ve found it’s super comfy and pretty capable on and off road. Even with all that said I like the benefits that the Ducati has.

As much as I like the looks of the triumphs. It looks like they think, " I'll take the same frame, same engine, same suspension etc, call it something else. By throwing different pipes, little more aggressive tires and like you said, a plastic skid plate. And poof! You have an adventure bike. NO! you don't.
Now, the Ducati. You put all those true off road features on it and add turn signals, and other road necessary features on it,,, and it's street usable. Triumphs are sweet, no doubt. But don't call it a scrambler by tossing it a few off road tidbits.

The Sled is more like a 70’s “enduro,” similar to an old SL, DT, XT, or even a later XL. The Triumph fits the “Scrambler” mode better as long as the bike’s owner makes a couple easy mods to make it dirt worthy.

Well consider me your hero then. Key West to Prudhoe Bay Alaska, and then back to New Orleans on the Street Scrambler. Dalton Highway, plenty of off-roading in the desert, etc. But yeah, the Desert Sled is way better off the road, easily. Don't forget Henry Crew took one around the world. The 1200 XE will be my next Triumph. I love my Street Scrambler and it won't be going away, but I need sometime more aggressive off-road. First serious rock steps and I decided I won't be doing that again. Good thing I got a beefy skid plate...

    Hi Yammie Noob
Thanks for your vid, i liked it! it makes me feel like buying the ducati right now.
HOWEVER, and whenever i see vids with guys like you (and with great explaination) YOU JUST NEVER OR SIMPLY ALWAYS FORGET TO TALK ABOUT THE KICKSTARTER. (if there is or is not one on the bike).
To me! it is not a simple extra feature but almost a must especially for an off road machine.
Just a pure stupid illustration: when out with my scooter if the battery is weak or whatever is the reason having my kickstarter has avoided me calling any road assistance many times!
So could you in the future, mention the absence or presence of that feature. i really think that will help us evaluat a bike againt another one.
    thanks, take care

Hard to find neutral? Back-in-the-day we'd do what we called 'break the clutch' before we even started the engine. Put it in gear and with the clutch lever squeezed to the handlebar, rock the bike back n forth until the clutch sticktion breaks free. Now you're ready to go. When you come to a situation that dictates a full stop, click it into neutral before you are stopped by 2 to 5 feet. Your previously 'freed' clutch won't drag you through the intersection as you look for neutral.
Love your videos, I have a Desert Sled, and started dirt riding with a '67 TR6C.

Although i barely go off road, I like that there is some ability for that. I haven’t had the find neutral problem, but have 2 dislikes. One is no fuel gauge so having to know how far I’ve driven so I won’t run out of gas, and two, the very hot engine when stopped at a light.

The Desert Sled is more offroad-ready, right off the showroom floor. The aftermarket supports the Triumph 900 well enough with suspension, power parts, and weight-shaving though.
Scramblers used to be built, rather than bought anyway, and some Triumphs look REALLY nice too.
Strip some weight, then swap on some taller, long-travel, fully-adjustable boingers.
As an aside, i think it's hilarious that the little Leoncino Trail 500 I just got my wife has 50mm USD forks. They aren't long-travel or adjustable though.

I love the Ducati Scrambler line but the Sled is easily my least favorite.
I would personally prefer the Triumph. Looks and sounds better than the Sled to me.

The desert sled and the street scrambler just don't compare you have to do it with the XC regardless of engine size. Come on bro.

I'm an old school Triumph Tiger cub guy. Had higher expectation of the Triumph. Ducati, my opinion, best bang for the buck. Ride safe guys ..

I like that Triumph. It looks a lot more like an all around bike, where as the Ducati looks very specialized in purpose. It would look odd seeing that Ducati cruising down the interstate. Proclaimed by a guy that bought a 1974 Triumph Trophy Trail 500cc new in early 74.

Great video 👌. You covered all the key points for someone looking at these bikes. Triumph needs to step up the little scramblers, but there's not very many trails between starbucks and urban outfitters.

I have a mildly built, 2015 Ducati scrambler classic w nearly 12,000 on My miles. Tough ,off-road miles. Yeah, I like good tires and they are expensive but normal cleaning and maintenance as well as Normal Ducati service isn’t. It’s a relatively low tech engine with tons of character. Valve adjustments on these cost more than most people think Because you have to Get the gas tank out-of-the-way, to do it.

The triumph is a retro bike more like an older scrambler and the Ducati is closer to a modern on road on road then a traditional scrambler so they rely are made for two different riding styles.

Both nice. Triumph wins though for me as the service intervals are 10,000 miles apart and also doesn’t have the horrid desmo service…

The statement you made about the difficulty in finding neutral; I had the same problem until I found out the little screw just on the inside of the clutch lever, can be used to adjust the clutch. What's really happening is that your clutch is not fully released it's still pulling a little bit. That's why you think that you aren't getting high torque when you go above 7000 revs per minute but actually that's when the true power kicks in on your Ducati. Your clutch needs adjusting because it's not fully released. You should have a little bit of play, and when you pull the clutch after half a centimeter or so you should hear a tiny little click. Once I calibrated that properly neutral it was instantly easy to find, and the bike started performing better at high reps which is how the bike is supposed to perform in the first place. It's able to perform hi power low revs and high-power Hi-Revs. Get your clutch fixed man. if you are losing power at high revs and I heard you say it doesn't seem to have much power at high revs, that means your clutch is not completely released it's too tight

It's funny you bring up being unable to get into neutral. When I had the Urban Enduro I found it was imposible sometimes to actually get down into 1st from 2nd, or vice versa, where it'd get stuck in neutral for either an additional click (if that would even work) or sometimes requiring taking out a bit of clutch/rolling/throttling to get it to click into gear. Admittedly I'd rather be stuck 'in' a gear rather than neutral, but still....such a strange gearbox.
