One suggestion for future CPU tests would be to include games which are actually almost always CPU bottlenecked.

I’m definitely interested to see how things add up price to performance for someone to do an upgrade (motherboard, ram, and CPU) to ryzen 7000 vs 13th Gen. Out of the gate these things seem like little rippers - and the fact that they technically still support DDR4 (if I’m remembering right) is appealing to me entirely on the basis of spreading upgrade costs out over time.

I've just ordered an i5-13600KF build with 32 GB of DDR4 3600 memory and an ASUS Strix Z690 motherboard for my RTX 3080 as an upgrade from my current almost 10 year-old i7-4770K with 16 GB of DDR3 1600 memory. This is for 1440p gaming on a 27" G-SYNC display with games runing at maxed out settings with RT and DLSS, where available.
As such, I'm a bit out of touch with what constitutes a CPU core these days because the i5-13600KF has 14 cores, right, split between 6 performance and 8 efficiency cores as I understand it with the former offering 2 threads per core and the latter a single thread per core for a total of 20 threads. So why is this considered a 6 core CPU in the review? What do the 8 efficiency cores do if they are not considered to be CPU cores?
I looked at the i7-13700KF but for gaming at 1440p the i5-13600KF seemed to offer the best value for money by far, especially for the RTX 3080. I certainly will not be buying a 4090 or 4080, the latter of which costs £1,269 for the Founders Edition here in the UK with third-party models costing even more! For comparison, my RTX 3080 cost me 'just' (lol) £749 so the 4080 is almost double the price generation-on-generation which, in my opinion, is utterly absurd and not a pricing model I endorse or support personally.

Not sure how Intel are marketing this chip but it makes so much sense for a modern gamer+. Oh and power consumption is not crazy in fact it's way lower than expected - on the other hand 13900 is CRAZY and given it's idle (which we know they never really are) draw is pretty much the peak draw of this processor is crazier still.

Good video, i'm building a pc with the 13600k and pair it with the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX you reviewed. I think going with the midrange stuff is a good option as this CPU offers good value and performance.
Sure it's not the fastest CPU, but building a midrange pc with components costs a lot less then it doesn't really matter about LGA socket cycle.
I mean they all ready talking about M.2 PCie 5.0 SSD's with massive heat sinks, and only a few high end Z790 expensive boards that support them so even if they did go another cycle on the socket some of the features on the board will be out dated anyway with the next generation of M.2 PCie SSD's. And right now M.2 PCie 4.0 SSD's 1TB are a good bargain and fit most of the midrange boards like the Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Elite AX you reviewed.

thank you for this my brother, good to see some aussie representation when it comes to pc part videos and content !
Just a question to anyone that reads this..
I currently have an i5 8400 and it bottlenecks on everything so ive finally decided to build a new pc after 4 years lets gooo.
Big question is cpu, i was thinking the 13600k since its $500aud for the kf version. But the real question is, this or another cpu?
ill eventually get a 3080 (also want to try out ddr5) and I mainly game and produce music, but want to make more content down the line.
So many new cpus and other products since I last built a pc so im still trying to catch up.
any help would be great ty

I just upgraded from a ryzen 1700 to a 5600, and even if I appreciate the change, it's more because I wanted to offer myself a gift, and because I got it for a nice price, but I could have kept on with the 1700 for 3-4 more years without a sweat. The games that are that cpu intensive to require a change are not interesting games anyway, and although I want to play a lot with emulators, I am not willing to put that much money into ryzen 7000 for a computer that already ran really great with a 1700 and a vega 64 for 1440p high quality 60-120fps
Just to say that indeed, people don't upgrade that often and don't need to, and even if the fact that a platform is dead is true, it doesn't stop it from working.

Does the "6 core" chip matter when it out performs its competitors from this gen and also out performs even the last gens best chips? Guess that only matters if the competition is "How many cores does it have". Otherwise the p core e core design does exactly what it's supposed to.
For 300 bucks which you can get it for on sale right now, it's the best chip for its price range. It outperforms the last gens most expensive chips and it's only like a 3% downgrade from the i7 pretty much making the i7 obsolete. If you really want a workstation bump with more cores then mght as well go for the I9 at that point.
Im building another pc for the first time in like 7 years and i was ready to pull the trigger on an i7 11700k for 264 expecting 13th gen to be crazy pricey. For 36 dollars more the upgrade between those 2 is crazy. Glad I waited
