  • Have you or someone you know struggled with mental illness? I started my mental health recovery journey in 2012 by talking to my doctor, finding an antidepressant that worked for me, and getting into therapy. Here’s part one of my story where I talk about how beneficial I found working with a therapist to be.
    QUESTION: What have been your experiences with therapy and counseling?

    I've been in theropy for just over a month it gives me comfort to know that I have someone every week to open up to I've had depression and anxiety for over 20 years. There is nothing wrong in seeing a therapist it gives you a chance to air your worries.

    Thank you, for making me feel okay with seeking help.
    Plus making me feel less alone.
    I relate so much with bottling things in, and hearing the advice of "praying suicidal feelings away".

    Thank you for this video. I’ve recently tried to become more confident, and I thought that would help me pursue my dreams, and it is slowly helping because I’ve been getting out of my comfort zone. Driving, getting more social, making friends. I wanna be the free spirited non negative thinking person I once was! I can do it!!!

      But I realized I also need help with my thoughts. I can ignore them at times, but that’s not good. I need to work through them. My mind is strong enough to . I am confident!

    Wonderful video! I grew up with a family who didn't talk about their feelings much either, but fortunately as I grew older and got to know my parents better as adults, we had more open discussions about mental illnesses. I've had some great conversations with my brother too. Sometimes you just need a little extra help, whether it's with depression or anxiety or whatnot.

    I wish everyone had to watch this video! Thank you so much for educating about this topic so well and for sharing that therapy isn't just for "crazy" or "weak" people. It's time to get rid of mental health stigma.

    It's amazing how pervasive and dangerously awful that thought is: "I'm having suicidal thoughts but I'll just keep them to myself and deal."

    So I have a friend that I can talk to about my problems, but I often feel like I'm bothering that person. Of course he says that it's fine. Also he is pretty much the only one that i feel comfortable talking with. I don't wanna push my problems on him but I need someone to talk to. What ahould I do?

    • @SteventheThorn
      @SteventheThorn 7 лет назад +2

      If someone tells you that they're fine listening, and you trust them, I would trust them to listen until they tell you otherwise. You can probably pick up cues if they're tired at a certain time or don't want to talk then, but communicate with them, respect any boundaries, and trust what they tell you if you trust that person.

      I need a friend that I can talk too, but I don’t wanna trauma dump lol. I’ll just seek therapy lol
