Think when you finally say 'I cant take this anymore' is your most honest and courageous act in life.
I would encourage anyone with depression to take that painful first step to ask for help, you may have to fight for that help when you are least able but keep asking until you find the right program or therapist. There are great books out there as well, start there if you must and just keep going.

Ive been watching you Nic & Andrea quite a while over the last year and caught this `you tube` by chance, having suffered from anxiety for quite some time, its helped me so much listening to your journey with depression,so much of what you have said is true, not letting people know about it and struggling on ,my husband has been wonderful but I try not to let him see my bad days as I worry it takes its toll on him. Thank you so much for being there and being so open about this nasty condition, Im an immature 70 yr old :-) who was one of the first car booters forty odd years ago buying and then reselling when ebay started so get a real kick watching you all now.

Bless you Edward and Nic for having the courage to do this chat.
I have nothing but massive respect and admiration for both of you and so much of what you said rings true to me.
Like a lot of resellers...Nic is to blame for starting us on this path lol but for me it literally saved my life.
I used to be a fairly outgoing, happy guy but changed into a hermit...someone who lost his job and friends because of depression, anxiety and panic attacks and i just hid myself away...despairing of the world and had gotten myself trapped in a dark place.
Well then a wonderful thing happened...i somehow stumbled across some chaps channel who was banging on about buying and selling stuff!
That day started the tiny buds of recovery and gave me the inspiration i needed to begin to claw my way back to a life with meaning, a life with hope...to turn myself into someone resembling a human being!
I'm not saying i'm back to my old self...don't think i'll ever get there but i've gone from someone who dreaded going out to now actually looking forward to it with a spring in my step!
I can't ever repay that chap who was banging on about tat but just wanted him to know that he has been my saviour.
So Nic, be so so proud of the person you are, you are an incredible inspiration and after watching this and Edward's other vid on this life-changing subject i can echo these sentiments about Edward too...to turn your life around to such a degree shows incredible strength of character.
So what i'm trying to say in my rambling way is a heartfelt thank you to both of you guys, you are wonderful peeps and you both rock!

Hi mickey. Thank you for sharing your story. It must have been so hard writing that. I am very sorry for all you have been through. So much of what you say I can relate too. I know nic will be touched when he reads your comments. The response from people saying that their channel has helped so many really found a good nerv and tbh I think he needed to hear it also. I hope you continue to improve. Should you ever need to talk feel free to message me on Facebook. Thank you

Thanks Mickey, it is so humbling to hear that our channel has helped you so profoundly, i only hope you can continue to improve and get back your quality of life, one of the reasons I want to share my story is to show that there can be a life after a long battle with depression.... I'm not saying it is easy, but there is hope... point yourself in the right direction and keep walking :)

Thank you so much Walter and Nic, this is such a powerful video and really humbling that you've found the courage to be so honest and open about your experiences. About a month ago I filmed a video talking about my anxiety and depression, but I haven't yet found the courage to upload it...maybe I will now. I hope you don't mind me making a suggestion, but I have found the treatment EMDR extremely helpful in helping me to overcome my difficulties. I've tried everything, anti-depressants, CBT, Tapping, psychotherapy, etc, etc and I even worked for Mind (mental health charity) for 5 years and have visited various mental health facilities and learnt all about good mental health, but wasn't able to apply it to myself. But the relief from my symptoms after starting the EMDR sessions has been life-changing. 6 months ago I lost my sister to an aggressive brain tumour and prior to that, I had been on anti-depressants for a year. For me to be able to get through the loss of my sister with the help of EMDR has been remarkable in my opinion. I'm now off the anti-depressants, and this morning I got up at 6.30am to have a morning run (something I haven't been able to do for years and years). The EMDR therapy is mainly used to treat PTSD but it's had profoundly beneficial effects on people who have experienced other types of trauma. We don't always believe that we've experienced trauma, if it seems like it's a small incident, but even the childhood bullying that you both talk about, can be enough to trigger depression and anxiety. Sorry for going on about it, but I'm a big fan and I just feel as though if only one person experiencing difficulties can get some help, then it's worth me waffling on! But, thanks again for such an important video, I hope that as my son gets older he is able to reach out, if he ever experiences depression or anxiety :O)

Hi hun. Thank you for your comment. And thank you very much for sharing. It isn’t easy to share our pains like this we somehow feel week but it’s the opposite we are so much stronger to share and help others. I hope many people read your comment and try emdr. I am very sorry for your loss. The pain never goes you just learn to live with it Your so brave If you can upload your struggles in your film I am sure it would help lots of people. The response we have had from these films letting us know we have helped so many actually helped us. Take care hun x

So many things here struck a chord, especially the comment about being a smiling depressed person. People don’t realise how things being said like “what have you got to be depressed about” show such a complete misunderstanding of the condition. As for those having a go at you saying ohh you bought that for £5 and are selling it for £30 or whatever, all I can think is they are jealous because they haven’t got the bottle to go look for things and do the same. Just plain jealousy. I think you’re right about having a thin outer shell of confidence that just one misplaced remark can penetrate and have a devastating effect. I was bullied as a child and although that was any years ago it never leaves you

A very inspiring video, to hear other peoples experiences and realise you are never alone is a huge thing for sufferers of anxiety and depression. A few months ago I opened up to my brother about how I had been feeling, only to realise he had been through it as well. It never goes away but knowing that there are people out there who truly understand made me more comfortable talking about it, which I think is the best help. Anxiety and depression has effected me since a small child, and the ebay reselling business ive just started has helped me conquer many fears, especially going out and talking to new people. Its like therapy! Thanks for the video :)

How the appearances can be deceptive !!! Both of you are intelligent, successful guys. Before I watched this video I would have believed you both are happy go lucky and very content.
Me and my husband often watch your videos, especially Walter's, because we are interested in antiques, enjoy carboot sales, charity shops and I also sell lots of antique/vtg stuff online. Thank you for the great videos, we learned a lot from them !!!
Please don't notice the negative people. They are always trying to knock down the better ones.

@@@AntiquesArena - I have to admit I suffer very badly from anxiety, it nearly made me a recluse. And my husband also has this problem, but now he feels much better. Nobody would ever have guessed this about him, not even his friends. He always looks and looked confident ( like you do) despite his crippling anxiety. Couple of months ago somebody advised him to take cold showers and he says it made a difference!!! The water really has to be cold and the water has to pummel your head and body for at least a minute or two - everyday! The stream of cold water acts as a electric shock to the brain and improves the mood.
I haven't tried it yet, I just can't stand cold showers but maybe when the weather warms up I will give it a try.

Thanks Martha, it is a valuable lesson that we can not judge a book by it's cover - so many of us hide what we have been through or are still going through, but the more we talk and share the more we can help and support each other.

Very good chat - i will say I am hiding a lot of emotion but i solve it with surrounding myself with happy people or thoughts. Last 4 years is very hard to discuss due to losing someone close that also put me into a depression state, but today I am driving to cheer on #teamste and little cheer for #teamcarla at the Bristol meet but it is for a moment of thanks to these people that we call friends who I never met. I try and use laughter and comedy to get me by, it works but sometimes i will go quiet and need space.... all part of being human sadly, I don't know how Vulcans do it ... thanks for sharing

I thought you were going to talk about Depression glass, Joking. I think when people tell a depressed person how lucky they are with having a good business and lovely family they think it will help and it does some, but depression is a mental unbalance that is a medical problem and not a character problem. Thank you for sharing.

  • @SuesPilesOfShame

This was so courageous of you both. I am genuinely pleased for anyone who doesn't understand how it feels to have mental health issues as it means they have never suffered. How do you possibly explain to someone who has not experienced it how it feels? I would say ' it feels like an absess in your head. Of festering puss. Even when the swelling subsidies, it is forever waiting for that little prod for it to erupt again. I purposely didn't watch before going to Bristol in case there were any triggers in there for me, but it is actually uplifting to see that despite everything you have come out the other side and achieving so much. Thank you so much for sharing this. And it was lovely to meet you in Bristol Walter. Take care. Xx

I am lucky enough to come from a family of "upbeats" so depression has not seemed to have touched me, however my husband is a sufferer of depression and stress and so have a small insight into you and Nic and how it can effect your everyday life.
