This guy is on point. I'm a jew and it's tragic to see our religion and culture used to justify an illegal genocidal occupation. It's also sad that most of my Jewish family will not talk to me if I say anything against the state of Israel. But obviously this is nothing compared to what Palestinians are going through

I would say that while the UK has a general political divide that is growing increasingly emulative of that in the US (Labour vs Conservative mirroring Democrat vs Republican) Scotland specifically is rather politically homogenous. Goes without saying it is a generally left-wing country, but as you will likely know the favourite pasttime of us on the left is arguing with each other! I suppose I was just curious to know what OP had to say about navigating something like that within the family unit.

It would be "rude" if an adult asked but children and fools are allowed to be curious about sensitive topics.

The fact that Israel has to pay bribes to our politicians, almost all of them from both major parties through AIPAC was enough for me to never trust Israel. I mean should that not be a VERY BIG red flag to see why one side, presumably the righteous and God's chosen people had to pay so much to spread its lies? Many people might be seeing the reality from Oct 7th, but some of us knew Israel's role in King David Hotel bombings, Lavon Affair, USS Liberty, and many hospitals and worship places they have bombed. They always look to start a war by planning attacks and then blaming the other side.

Then Netanyahu was funding Hamas to overthrow the PLO because he did not want to create a two state solution where the Palestinians have their own state. There are videos of him saying that they need to fund and strengthen hamas. Once hands took over the PLO now the two state solution was no longer a problem because Netanyahu said that he cannot negotiate with terroristZ. The plan all along was for Palestine to not be an independent country and for Israel to expand.

I'm surprised that this topic was news to anyone. Either way you have to remember that you are listening to a biased point of view from Bassem. He leaves out details to further his agenda like anyone else would. And Theo notoriously doesn't ask counter questions to very important statements. He just agrees. Like when Bassem said that most/all of the brutal violence on oct 7th was fabricated fake news. Well there is plenty video of that brutal violence, not decapitated babies, that was the truth. But there is video of the mass slaughter, r*pe, humiliation and parading of naked dead young jewish women for example. Which was not mentioned by Bassem naturally, and Theo didn't question that. It comes across like the whole event was a lie.

I have a friend who was a born in Syria in 1994 to a Palestinian father and a Syrian mother. He was stateless because you do not get the Syrian citizenship if you have a palestinian refugee status. His father was already born in Syria. His grandfather was forced to leave Palestine and they still have the key to the grandfather's house. It is like a dream to him to go there and find the place. He lives now in Germany and has for the first time in his life a citizenship. It is really sad.

I seen a Louis Theroux documentary about Israel years ago and it was shocking. It showed an estate agent basically harassing the Palestinians out of their homes. Some were afraid to leave their homes because if they did a Jewish family would move in. This was over 10 years ago in the West bank. It made me do a ton research and reading. I never thought I could laugh while learning about such a heavy and complex topic like the Gaza conflict, but Bassem Youssef and Theo Von made it possible. Their blend of humor and information made this video both engaging and educational. Thank you for making this difficult subject more understandable and for bringing some much-needed lightness to it.

My Aunt is Palestinian and she also shared stories of how common it is people to die by bombings, she lost her dad and grandparents in 2004 when Israel bombed their home.

It's a smart play and it seems to be working.

Bassem Yousef is really everything you want from a guest. Someone whose knowledgeable yet inclusive to others, whose humorous while being aware and charming. And, most importantly a truth teller while being honest. Which you both don't expect or see a lot in figures who publicly discuss politics.
Theo also does great job in listening and learning, while contributing to the conversation.
