How I ‘Cured' My Depression

  • hi, this is the story of how i cured my supposedly incurable depression. i sometimes feel happy now. i hope you feel happy too. have a nice day ♥️
    thanks so much to SmartTMS: smarttms.co.uk
    ps: if you're worried that maybe i should have tagged this as a spon because i received a free thing, i fully explained the process in the video and i have checked with the UK's Advertising Standards Authority, who have said I'm all good. I'm not trying to hide anything... just didn't want to help people have hope that depression can be cured, and putting a fat SPON in the title would not be very good for a video on this topic. SmartTMS had no control over the content of this video, and I wasn't contractually obliged to make it. I just wanted to share my story. All g ♥️

    Hi!! Sorry if this was stated in the video, but on the website, it says that 30% of people do not respond to this treatment. I wanted to make sure people know this, because if I believed off the bat that there is a definite way to make me stop feeling like suicide is a viable option on the daily and then I was told that it wouldn't work on me, that'd make me feel much worse than if I knew there was a chance it didn't affect me from the beginning.

    I study neuroscience at uni, and TMS is being taught now. It came about from the Faraday coil, and is also being used a lot in research. We learnt the other week than when someone it told to read a passage, they cant speak it out loud if a certain cortical node is stimulated with TMS. Its true, we are just chemicals and cells, which i think is more incredible than saying we have a "soul". All that we feel and remember and see is just chemicals and electrical impulses. We forget that sometimes. Nothing we feel is invalid, because it is physically real, within our brain. Something is going on, whether we know about it yet or not.

      I think it makes a lot of sense too that this kind of treatment works. You probably know that often times, when trauma occurs, it has a dramatic impact on how the brain grows and develops (or, in older cases, dies). I wonder if this kind of treatment would be affective with severe PTSD and the like (maybe illnesses such as Alzheimer's as well). I'm curious how it works. It would be interesting to see the inner functions of the machine and all that.

    • @bowlzyk
      @bowlzyk 5 лет назад +6

    so I did a few courses in psychology and neuro-biology and your "strong brain" might actually be an indicator to the actual underlying problem of ADHD. ADHD often comes with anxiety and depression and doesn't always present with the typical hyperactive symptoms. ADHD on a neurological level is your brain not having enough neurotransmitters to get the wanted effect from a stimulus. So when a normal brain needs one cookie to feel happy, an ADHD brain need ten cookies to feel the same level of happiness. This leads to many symptoms like procrastination, unwillingness to stick to rules or being prone to addictions even if these addictions aren't always seen as harmful.

    For me though. I would say I am not depressed anymore, at least like I used to be. But sometimes I still go through those days I'm like "Why do I feel this way in the middle of dinner with my best friend???" but I am so much better than before and I am so glad. Also Luke, thanks for being here for so long, you really helped. 💓
    That depressive loop is so relatable though 😅 but hey I'm trying and that is what matters. 👍

    Actually crying. Sometimes I feel like I am my depression. Hearing you say I’m not is by itself helpful, regardless of treatment. I am very curious. But I’m not in the UK. ❤️❤️❤️

      neoliddle What you’re failing to realise is that I’m a stranger and you’re demanding the answer to a personal question that is really none of your business. I don’t care your reasoning behind it. It’s rude and childish. Have a nice day.

    That's some really interesting tech and great to hear it worked! Hope it is proven more and starts to make it's way here in Canada too. Depression and mental health issues in general are getting bad here would be cool to see an actual cure. Hopefully there's no long term side effects though.
    I ended up getting seasonal affective disorder (SAD) depression last year, it was a horrible feeling to go through, I was nearly suicidal, just felt like I was spiraling down a dark place. Was scary. Had to go on antidepressants and get counseling but eventually got out of it when summer arrived. I find in general I sometimes lack motivation to do anything and that's what led to my depression last year. I think that's more of a problem I need to work on myself though, just need to stop procrastinating projects so much and just get stuff done. I'm ok now, but it's around this time of year that it hit me. The clock change thing is what triggered it. Lack of daylight here does not help. Oddly enough we red heads do have an advantage of being able to produce vitamin D better through the sun... just don't stay in it too long lol. Of course most of the year there is no sun so it's kind of a lost super power unless you play around with UVB bulbs. Just protect your eyes. :o

    there is a smart tms in Dublin which is about 2 hours away from where I live so I don’t think this would work to go back and forth for treatment even know I would love it.. I would love to do it as I’ve had depression for 4/5 years and would love to do something to help myself. Im currently going through counselling and have loads of support from family and friends, I was on anti depressants but they made me more depressed if that is possible but yes hopefully I’ll be in a place I can try smart tms when I’m slightly older♥️ I’m so glad your feeling better Lukes, thank you for sharing this x

I'm no expert but I always try my best to maintain a positive outlook and it's good that you have the courage to work on your situation as you said which again will have helped you a lot.

    Thanks for the video! I suffer from Bipolar 2, C-PTSD, and Generalized Anxiety. So, loads and loads of fun. BP2CPTSDGAD??? Idk how you'd even turn all that into an acronym. But yeah, it's interesting to see what works for different people. I've changed around my diet a lot, built up my support system, and picked up hobbies that give me that instant gratification because "hey, I completed a project; I have worth!"
    There's obvs nothing that will work 100% of the time for 100% of people, but I think it's really great that issues surrounding mental health are gaining more traction and we're slowly figuring out the best ways to take care of our brains. Good job on finding something that's helped you. :)
