Engines with remote start will shut down if the check engine light is on or if you have bad O2 sensors or other engine issues.
You are absolutely correct! Mine was working until my "Check Engine" indicator came on. Turns out I have an Evaporative Emissions Purge Control Valve (EVAP) malfunction. When I try to engage the remote start, It would engage and turn on my truck and run about 30 seconds and cut off.

So I put a a full exhaust and cat delete on the truck. Turns on with auto start but shuts off shortly after is there a way to bypass that or do I have to have a catalytic converter ?

That is incorrect. My dodge started while I had o2 sensors failing and engine light on so....
Mine wouldn’t start remotely......but it did start and ran ...so so. 🤔
I wish I read this 2 mos. ago . The dealer never told me about 2x start only on remote. 3rd time must be manual,for safety reasons. Dealership had my car 2 days to tell me they could not find anything wrong with remote starter and THEN didn’t explain the 2x start. So after much worrying ,many phone calls getting voice mail, leaving my number,not ever getting any call backs, spending many,many,many min. on hold, today on hold totaled over an hr. . Finally today they explained the 2x start. I am just exhausted over this 2017 Dodge Journey.
Crazy,!! This worked for my Mazda CX-9 .the RS stopped working out the blue ...sat in the car pressed the key sequence to remote start..the dash flashed and looked like it was "communicating" clicked, then the engine started. Tested outside the vehicle & started seemlessly 🙌🏾🥳 saved me a trip to Dealer in 2 days and my time 🥳🙌🏾 thanks my guy
You saved my trip to the dealership. I used my remote twice to start the car. Was playing around turning my new GM vehicle on and off and 3rd time I couldn’t start it at all with remote. Next morning i drove the vehicle just with push start and after parking the vehicle in parking lot in afternoon. I again tried to remote start at evening. Remote start worked again , i was curious so tried it second time and it started but third time similar thing happened, I couldn’t start it with remote. I knew it could be a hidden feature which I didn’t know. Started searching for reason on u tube and I got to know through this video that new GM vehicles will only allow remote start 2 times together. After that we hv to start it with push button. Thanks for the video. I was about to take it back to dealership to fix whats wrong with it.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to computerized cars. My remote start wouldn't work and the check engine stayed on, you saved me a pile of money which I have none of. Guess it's like you have to reboot it every now and then.
This happened to my 2016 Ram today, the battery had a very low charge. Replaced the battery and its working fine now.
Never mind all the technical crap! Get to the point! How do we fix it?!

I corrected the problem by turning the vehicle on than I put my foot on the brake and press the remote start button for 3-5 seconds. Turn the vehicle off and try starting using the remote start it worked for me
You haven't done any videos lately. Any update on how your truck is holding up for you? I have an ecodiesel also and just wondering if there's anything other owners are experiencing that I will need to keep an eye on.

brian, how about the times when thats not the case though? Ive had numerous times where on my f150 it hadnt been attempted to be remote started, you go to start it, lights flash like its gonna go, then few seconds later lights flash and horn honks once. go cycle the key, and then it'll work. Just an odd quirk ive found.

Scott Schultz u get in turn it on and it resets,say your in your house and start it ,its turns off, you do it again it turns off, it wont turn on a third time you have to get in and stsrt it with a turn of the key

I get this problem EVERY TIME I go to use it. Yes, I then do what you say and all is good and works great until about an hour down the road.
I had the same thing happen to me I corrected the problem by turning the vehicle on than I put my foot on the brake and press the remote start button for 3-5 seconds. Turn the vehicle off and try starting using the remote start it worked for me

ok I know this off subject but I just changed a cam phaser on my 5.4 Ford 07 on drives side just the way you showed in the steam line video. it worked like a charm got it back together and drove it to town to see if the noise went away. it did everything was fine went home parked it. the next day it crank no problem took off down the road and a mile down it start to skip then popin??? could this be the cause of me not changing both phasers?
I have this same issue but its due to high idle tripping the starter. This happens randomly summer and winter?
I just had this issue last week. My car battery was going dead. Went and got it changed, car starts great and push to start works like new as well

ive had it happen when i just got out of the truck and went to go in the store. Hit the remote start and all I get is that message. Restarted truck with key, turned off, got out, same thing...

Hello, I would like to ask you a question about the remote start, and that is that when my truck starts, the time it lasts on is 15 seconds and I don't know how to put a longer duration on it.
Just had the dealer install factory remote start. But I had a active shutter u284 code when they did the install. They didnt fix it or even mention it when I pivked it up. Of course the remote start shuts off after 5 seconds. I installed a new shutter module assy, reset codes and tested it. Heres the kicker. When I used the key to start, there are no codes, but if I remote start it, it sets a u284 code and disables remote start. Ideas? This is a 2018 Ram Eco-diesel
great vid but what if you use the remote the right way and hit the lock and double hit the remote start but the vehicle alarms it's self and doesn't start what do I do next?

I have a 2019 duramax Chevy and remote start went out the other day. Have no idea what's wrong. No check engine lights. Nothing. The truck lights come on when I push it but nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks 🙏
While you are correct about the maximum of two consecutive times remote starting a vehicle, that is not what is happening with Rams. At random times, I'll remote start my 2017 1500 Rebel and I get this error message. I am talking about the first start of the morning after it has sat overnight when I just got home from work... where I sell Rams.

@@DD-mm4zo same been years now... stopped working in 2011.. replaced the hood switch.. checked wiring even found a schematic on some forums... Tech at the dealer said my car didn't come with it... totally did.. the schematic talks about a reset switch that is no where to be found on my 2009 300c

when it is very cold the day the voltage drops to 8 sometimes it feels like the jeep doesn't want to start because of this.
for a good start it should stabilize at 12 to 14 volts when the weather is between 50 and 60 fahrenheit the remote control works perfectly
Also if you have a bad door lock actuator , meaning one of the doors won't lock/unlock will also cause it not to work

I have the same problem right now on my 2017 dodge Durango GT how can I fix it?
Was having the same problem and couldnt fix it at all.. You have to manually start it and drive it around in order to reset it, thats how I got mine to work, took me a while to see the pattern and I think the car has to be mechamically good as well ( As in if you disconnect the battery.. if you know anything about a car being "smog ready" the codes have to be complete, meaning driving the car around a certain amount of distance so the codes can program after disconnecting battery and/or clearing codes.) Aslo pretty sure not having engine light on. But if your car is good and your getting this message, the reset pretty much means start it and drive it and then when you go to park it again and lock it, it should work. Hope this helps anyone trying to figure out why you get this message.

Would you recommend buying a used 2014 Ecodiesel that's been broken in or still not touch beings that it's the first year model?
Its not just the engine it is just the rest of the trucks powertrain that is the problems.
My Ram won't Remote Start if fuel is low. Also the 2 start max I believe is if you park in your garage and the kid starts playing with the remote when you not around. Could be a huge issue if they could continue to start.
Yup low fuel is another great feature of the integrated remote start.

mine say no hood switch when I scan it for the inhibit rerason. I changed the hood pin but still nothing.
It doesn't always mean you have used the system too many times..I had that issue and no engine light. I reset by starting the car from inside and tried the remote start 24 hours latter it happened again.

4 years and 50k miles, and none of the issues these people seem to be having.
Oil changes every 6k miles
Fuel filter change every 15k
And run Hot Shots EDT and Winter Gel as a fuel additive, depending on the season.

Is it possible that it didn't come with a remote start even if the lights flash and you can hear the starter selinoid click? Heads up it's on a Chevy equinox.
I've been told if your remote came with it it has it, however, the crappy thing that was presented to me from.a used dealer was AWFUL so I researched it and bought another one had the key cut and programmed by a locksmith..
My thinking is if that's the case why could they have not upgraded to make you think it did.
Also it did not come with a owner's manual.

So, what if I try to remote start, after the truck has been parked over night, has a full tank of gas, doors are locked, hood is closed, and it refuses to remote start? The truck will beep and that is all. Message on the dash is as you cited in the video. Remote start disabled. Why?

Hey there. Just had my 2014 Ram 1500 ecodiesel towed to the dealership tonight due to a loud knock in the driver side portion of the engine compartment. Any ideas? If drivetrain it will be under warranty, but any recommendation on how to deal with Chrysler service would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'll mention that it has 37k miles on it. Happy New Years!!!

I am looking into it hard now that it is official but I would wait until the 2019 models of course to let them work the bugs out. I don't like the current trend of putting the truck name in large letters on the tailgate but ram is doing the same thing.

I have that same issue but mine's is a 2010 so I don't have that screen and none of that comes up on my display. None of this happened until my battery died. Once I replace the battery everything in the car is in perfect working order besides the remote start it does the one beat and lock the doors that's it
2018 Malibu and I just replaced the battery in the key fob and now my remote start won't work. I'll try this tomorrow.

It happen to my 2016 dodge charger rt , what i did i just turn on the vehicle pressed the x2 button turned off my vehicle and locked it and auto start again and it worked.

Jeep: mine does it randomly even if it’s the first time trying for the day! still haven’t figured out this issue. Made sure hood and doors shut, key fab battery new… not sure what else would cause it.

I have never seen the drive to clean message. I can tell time to time it was in regen when I park it the smell is there.

I don't have any lights on the dashboard and I don't have any generic code's. I have not checked to see if there is any Ford specific codes. What could be the issue? Please reply with an answer. What if you never usethe remote start on the key fob but actually get in and try to start it and nothing happens. I still get the message to start to reset. But it doesnt reset. It simply sits there. They really need to implement an alternative key to turn just in case. Digital aint always the best. Now im stuck at a parking lot cause my car wont start at 3 am.

@@feleciadavis9565 not really. I did get it fixed but didnt get a reason why it did that. Fixed it for about $225. Hasnt happened anymore. Def an electrical issue. Hopefully u can find a good electric mechanic that can fix it for you.
almost pulled the trigger on a 15 ecodiesel but lots of reviews of engine failures. Have you had any problems or can you forsee engine failure with the design?
My 2016 Charger did it last night, but it started for like 3 seconds then went off & my check engine light is on & was on again this morning, I'll start it normally the next couple days just to see if the check engine light goes off.
It actually worked the very next time I started it up normally, check engine light is gone, thanks for this video, #sucribed

I got the same message in my 15 Jeep grand Cherokee and I replaced the battery to get this working cause that message is telling u that u lost voltage and ur not getting enough voltage to to remote start the vehicle so think about getting a new battery to fix the problem
