Hope check engine light is related in your case. If you have a code reader, you could cancel the code & light & the vehicle should start remotely at least until the light comes on again.

thank you....we changed the oil and the check engine light never went out....and the remote would not keep running....now I know why....next is to find out how to shut the light off....thank you for your help
Check engine light is never for oil change, but usually a emissions item like ERG valve, o2 sensors, and other stuff like that. Your van should have a separate notification to change oil. If you are near a auto Zone, they will scan it for free and you will have the code. Just don't buy any parts expecting by just replacing that part that it will 100% fix the problem. After getting the code, you should do some research first. Send me a note if you find out what this code is!

2014 Dodge Caravan issue: The locked van will sometimes not respond to the known good keyfobs. When its in that state, If you open the door with the physical key, the alarm sounds until you put the fob into the ignition switch and turn one click clockwise and then the fobs will work for hours or days until the van is back in the state where it won't respond to the keyfobs. Any advice on that?
No I don’t have any ideas on your problem Tony! One think you don’t know is if when you hit unlock, if the FOB is transmitting (be it the wrong code) or not transmitting at all. There might be a service bulletin on this issue, but I don’t have that info info.

Dang! My 2014 Cherokee is doing this exact thing. The light is ac related, not to the engine at all, so I didn’t see how they were connected. Outstanding!

thanks! 2 questions tho: What light was on? headlights or ? (did you mean the 'check engine light"?). So I have this same problem (remote start works, then shuts off after some 10 seconds and my 'check eng lite' is always on. This started right after I replaced my PVC valve. The error code suggests a PVC valve issue.... but it's a new one. can these PVC valves be installed incorrectly? It seemed like a very straight forward job.
It is the check engine light! Computer sees a issue so disables the remote start. Which year and engine?

Dennis, the cheapest and best code reader I have is this one: amzn.to/3HILSYv It does Full OBDII Functions 10 Modes, Mode 6,O2 Sensor Test etc. And it is dirt cheap! Nice find Uncle Mark. I don't have a remote BUT I am having issues with the WIN that might be related to the Check Engine light. The WIN was replaced in a recall. But it's acting up again. Subscribing . Can I ask what year the van is please🙂?
Nice to hear from you James! Our van is a 2010 model. We had the WIN replaced under a recall a few years back as well. I believe the WIN also works with the tire pressure monitor, which ours is always acting up. These vans also have a few issues with the TIPM as well. What is your van doing?
@@unclemarksdiyauto It is a roll of the dice whether it starter or is just dead. Intermittent starting. the power does seem to get the the starter. No problem , it starts and runs normal. But we now have an issue with the interior lights not turning on and half the dash board, Miles odometer and engine check lights are now permanently out. But the lights behind the speed odometer work. The lights come on but nothing to the starter. Interior lights now out as well. So I am guessing the tipm has issues. Not the fuel pump relay though. I know that goes some times, but that parts working.
@@JamesDoylesGarage That is too bad to hear your issues, James. Our TIPM has a issue right now with the soldered in relay for the drivers side door locks being unable to unlock either drivers side front or rear door. Locks fine. I am planning to tear the TIPM apart later this summer after I source the proper relays. Hope you figure your issue out. Not starting at anytime is a big issue.
Doesn’t work for me … seems there is another issue…. As my check engine light is NOT on… and my remote start as well as the turbo timer both shut down after 10 secs …have a prestige alarm system … nobody so far has been able to help …

Oh and can I ask you if your scanner says to clear the freeze data will anything bad happen if I clear the freeze data So did you just clear the code out or fix the problem?
I believe the freeze frame data is just on your scan tool. It will just delete what is in your tools memory.

You could buy a cheap code reader which will do it. Engine light will reappear after a few starts anyways. You will have to repair the problem first, since engine computer is always checking/monitoring these things.
Got my multi-function wiper/turn signal replaced, 2018 GranCaravan... worked fine for a couple days... then today a minute after locking the car the remote start activated... by itself. ? Is there a way to deactivate remote start? If so will that be "fix" if I dont use remote start anyway?
So after your turn signal switch was replaced, the remote was working fine? I would not think there is any connection between the 2. Your Dodge dealer can probably deactivate the remote start through software programming. You might have something wrong with your key FOB that is causing the remote to start the van by itself.

Long wait, short-handed, etc. I had to wait a month to get the switch changed, while I couldn't drive with wiper on all the time.

Does your Caravan have the window down opption? when you unlock and hold the unlock button, it was on 08-10 and some 11 mini vans.
Tom, just checked! It does! We have owned it for 8 years (no owners manual) & never knew this! We did have some issues with key fobs years ago, and windows would be down on there own! I knew it was FOB related but did not know how to recreate the condition.
My heater and blower won’t go on with remote start. Which defeats the purpose of remote start. The heater and blower works if I manually start the van thru ignition and key. Remote Start allows radio to go in, doors lock, headlights on, but no heat. Remote Start also disables my dc volt outlets so my devices won’t charge
I have no ideas to guide you at the moment, Jillian60. My only thoughts are when you figure out what solves one of those issues, it may fix all of those issues.

You problem sounds like a complex one. So many things could be causing this. As to check engine light causing no start with remote, I also did one on a Ford F150, but it's issue with check engine light was caused by a oxygen sensor.
Interesting. On my model - 2017 - the locks engage automatically when you use auto start. My problem is it will only start twice automatically - then you have to insert key to start.
You will have to talk to your dealer or a mech shop to see if this can be changed in the programing. A buddy has a Honda that does the same thing, only starting twice before you have to manually start with key/start button in the vehicle. Maybe they feel it is a waste of fuel & no real need to run it that long if you are not driving. (I could see it needing longer run times if dog in vehicle etc.)
The manual says it’s only supposed to work for two times then require a key.
I have a 2008 and wheni use the automatic car start it shuts off , it only has 107,000 miles ,its a 300 hemi , the engine light is on also

@@glennstidham7954 1st thing you need to do is get the car scanned for why check engine light is on. (Autozone does it for free? NOT A SPONSOR) Remember what ever the code is may not exactly be the issue. A broken wire to what ever sensor it says is causing light could be the issue. Keep us updated, Glenn.
I don't have a remote starter. When I turn to crank the engine over and let go the key it just wants to keep cranking and cranking until I turn it back to off position

I was using the Thinkcar scanner listed in the video description below. It works on your ipad. For this issue, a normal cheap code reader would do.
Does abs light being on can also be a problem why the car starts then shuts off afterwards.?
I would think the answer is no. (ABS does not turn on the check engine light) Is your check engine light on, Arvin?

@@arvintalavera3041 I also am pretty sure SRS should not effect remote start. But someone else may be able to prove I am wrong. Do you have a code reader? You might be able to get some direction from that. (But don't start changing parts if you do) Keep me posted or shoot me a email. (In my about section of the channel)
My Ram has the same issue with just about the same mileage as your van.
Get the check engine light issue fixed and hopefully your remote start will also work!
How do you get rid of the light?
You have to get your system scanned, fix the problem, and then the light can be turned off and it will stay off. Otherwise just getting somebody to turn the light off won’t help, because your computer I’ll just turn it back on since there is a fault.

Sorry, Bronem. Can't think off hand the easiest way. I would check the owners manual to see if there is a fuse in the van for remote start. Otherwise, it might be a expensive think to track down.

Did you try changing the battery in the remote, David? And if you have a 2nd remote, have you tried that one as well?
Genius. If you’re having starting problems make sure your hood is closed. Had a relay go bad, & it would no start until I’d closed the hood, & door to reset the key. These computers & the way they work together can be annoying as hell.

If the vehicle would not crank after using the FOB, I would have a couple other ideas (which you also would also be thinking) I will try to reach out to a Dodge master tech buddy and see if he has run across this. If you don't fix the problem, you can turn off the light but after a few drives, maybe even the first time you start the van up, the light will come back on. You could buy a cheap scanner like this one: 🔧 Ediag YA201 OBD2 scanner: amzn.to/3IVmWdm or go to a Autozone if you have one and they can scan it for free. (code does not guarantee a fix though) Example, lamp in house has a bulb not working so you buy a light bulb & it still does not work. But the issue is not the bulb, but the cord not being plugged in! Codes kind work like that. They see a problem but does NOT know the whole story. All the best!

I had an oil change and the reset wasn’t done
It should not affect your remote start. Have you figured out how to reset it? (What year is your van again?)

Yup, this was the problem on my 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 with the same key. My gas cap was the reason for the Check engine light...

What’d you do to solve it? My 2021 scatpack is doing that now. My check engine light is on and it will cut off after remote start is running after like 10 seconds
@@leaffie5756 Had a code for EGR, so I replaced the EGR and cleared the code. All fine now! I guess the question is, why is your check engine light on?

@@leaffie5756 Might be coincidence! But, is check engine light on? If so, you need to scan it. Otherwise, this is totally guess work.

Resetting the system? The check engine light is on for a reason! There is no resetting the system. You need to find out why the check engine light is on and fix that problem. Once that is corrected, the remote start will function properly. As for why the check engine light is on, it could be any number of issues. If memory serves me right, this needed the EGR replaced. The 2011 & newer don't have a EGR valve.
I just left the following comments on a different youtube video on using the Remote Start feature. Any input would be appreciated.

@@unclemarksdiyauto No, not at all. The Salesman surprised me when he said this vehicle had Remote Start. This feature was on my Wish List, but realistically I didn't think it was possible. It didn't work, there was less than a quarter tank of gas. But that could have been a problem that they hadn't fixed yet. Now I need it to work! Next time I check out the vehicle I guess I'll put some gas in it. The deal breaker will be the Interest Rate and resulting Monthly Payment. I may need to lower my expectations and purchase an older Grand Caravan. It is up to the Banks now.
Through further research, I found out the the range for the Remote Start is about 300ft. That should be enough for me.

@@theinnovationstore Nice to talk to a fellow Canadian! Manitoba weather here requires that command start as well. I would want to see the remote working before I buy. Some of the 2012? & newer caravans with the 3.6 have developed issues with the lifters where the needle bearings wear & fall out causing engine ticking. If not fixed soon enough, the cams get worn out as well. just a FYI. As you mention too, interest rates are getting crazy. You might be able to get your bank to give you a better rate Duncan.
