Chrysler Town and Country cranks but won't start fix!

- My 2012 Town and Country van started having an issue lately where the starter would crank repeatedly but wouldn't start. After reading up on the issue, I found that it was due to a faulty TIPM fuel pump relay. Up to this point if I could get it started it would run, because the relay would kick on the pump. If the battery was low and I jumped started the car, sometimes that would work because having the extra voltage helps the relay turn the pump on. I also noticed after shutting the van off once that the pump continued to run for 10 minutes, which is not normal and drains the battery leading me back to step 1 of jumping the car.
Fortunately there is a company called Vertical Visions that makes a really easy $59+shipping plug and play fix for this problem. In the video I go through issue, install the fix, and show it working again. This video was not sponsored, as I was actually having this issue and bought the part as the solution. I would highly recommend checking the company out below if you are having the same issue with you Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, or Ram between the years 2008 up to 2020 in some models.

I spend over $2000 on repair shops with no result, I was contemplating junking my town n country, then I saw your video. It starts on first try, you are a genius sir, thanks ah million.

Just ordered one! Thank you for a "to the point fix" This video is Gold for all the unfortunate Chrysler owners out there.
Thanks!!!! If it wasn’t for people like you, many of us would still be scratching our heads and pulling our hair out. Wonderful video!
You're the GREATEST! mister. Love this video. People as honest, straightforward and helpful as you are extremely RARE online, these days. Thanks a million!
Thank you so much! I had one mechanic already tell me they thought it was just an issue with the key fob. This saved me a lot of wasted time and money!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This 62 year old woman was able to watch your video, order the necessary part, install it, and get my 85 year old mom's Town & Country functional again. So very grateful!!
Awesome story!! Girl power!! 😊❤
Thank you Type 5 reviews. We were starting to go crazy with our 2013 Town and Country not starting. It would crank but not start. At first it was an intermittent problem. Then it got more frequent. We could not depend on it starting at all. We had it towed to a mechanic shop. They could not duplicate the problem for two days. Then finally it happened. However, they didn't know what was wrong. It was intermittent. We drove our van home and it continued for a few days until it wouldn't start at all. We were so frustrated. We went back to looking online trying to find answers. Then I came across your video. It sounded and looked like our problem. We ordered the TIPM relay part and received it in 2 days. It took only a few minutes to install AND the van started right up!! Thank God.
Awesome! Glad it was able to help. 👍🏻
Send me the link how to get that part car won't start turns over
im having the exact same problem. i will take it to the mechanic tomorrow. but i will give this a try aswell. thank you for sharing your experience it helps a lot
🎉@@besscassanova8560
I wonder if this is an issue with the 4.0 engine as well?
Thank you for posting this video! It was exactly what was wrong with our van....saved my husband a lot of headache, time, and money!
It worked! Less than $100 spent on our 2011 Chrysler T&C, that was parked for over 2 weeks! Thank you very much!!! Ordered part late Friday evening, came today, took less than 2 minutes to install, cranked right up!! Blessings to you Tony @ Type 5 reviews!!!
Watched this video on Thursday of last week. Ordered the fix from Vertical Visions on Friday, got it in the mail today at noon and was driving the van normally in less than 10 minutes! The install was simple, the result was perfect and Top 5 Reviews was right on. Thanks for all of your help!
👏🏻
Where can l but the vertical Vision ?? Please share the link or website. Thank you
Thank you!!!! My husband fixed our 2011 town and country for $55 after $$$$$ spent on replacing different parts on the van at two different dealerships where they couldn’t fix it.
Thank you SO MUCH for this video. I splurged on the "top of the line" version of this bypass, and it worked as you advertised. I am not an auto mechanic at all, but it only took ~10 minutes to install and BOOM, our 2013 T&C started right up! I am sure the $100 was less than the tow bill to send it into the shop. Thanks again!
Glad it helped!
Had the same problem with our 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. Same symptoms: Crank but never start. Intermittent at first but one day would not start at all. Googled the problem and came across your video. Ordered the part from Vertical Vision for $70 (w shipping) and arrived about 5 days later.
Installed it tonight in 5 mins. Van started right up! Thank you for posting and providing the link. Saved me a lot of headache.
It finally came today. Took about 5 minutes to put in. Started her up and took off. I was so lost without a vehicle. Thank you so much for the video and where to get part. Watch out grandma is on the road again.
It worked! Thank you and praise God! After the local Chrysler Jeep dealer kept our van for over a month due to back orders on parts, etc. and unnecessarily replacing the fuel pump, they said they could order "a part" for $25 to bypass the bad relay but the labor would be $500. I watched your video, and we decided to tell the dealer "no thanks" but instead to try the part you recommended. I ordered the part, it was a quick install, the van cranks, and we saved $500. Thank you for posting!
Great to hear! Glad it helped.
Wow glad I came across this video. Not only does our 2012 Town and Country experience the cranking issue when trying to start but we have also been having an issue for 2 years where the vehicle stops when coming to a stop. Brought it into the shop many times with no luck. Reading the description of the issue on Vertical Visions they describe this as a similar issue. Hoping this part resolves both issues.
Buen dia, se te recolvio el problema, la mia no da marcha en un inicio, saludos
Did it?
I have paid over $700 to mechanics to diagnose and "fix" this problem. It always, always comes back and they just shrug their shoulders at me. I'm so glad I found this video. Ordered the part and I'm excited to see if it works!
Yes, exactly the same thing wrong with my van. Wants to start but won't. Mechanic friend said it might need a new fuel pump. I searched up the fuel pump replacement and came across the video.
I ordered from Vertical Visions. Regular mail was 7 to 21 bhsiness days. I needed my van back pronto so I opted to pay more and have it in 1 to 3 days.
Part arrived as advertise. Probably took me longer to type this comment than to add the circuit board.
Thank you!
Thank you for posting this; it worked perfectly after about 3 months of intermittent trouble starting our van. God's blessings to you. Thank you again.
THANK YOU!!! My wife's van had this happen yesterday. I was preparing to replace the fuel pump but I just ordered the module. I already have the bypass cable on my van.
What are bypass cables and this module relay fix the problem.
So glad you made this. My 2011 T&C was frustrating my wife so much, picking up kids from school in 100° weather waiting in a hot car until the damn thing decides to start working.
Thank you for posting this! I ordered the part, installed it today and it worked!
Thanks for posting this. Vertical Visions saved me a bunch of time and money. You did as well by posting this video. Thank you again for doing this!!
Great video. i just ordered this part for a town and country van. your vid was just what i needed. you added a jot of stuff to my brain for future use!!!
Ran a simple jumper wire with an inline fuse on mine years ago and held up great for maybe 5 or 6 years now.
Still won't start when it's cold though.
Scary that this likely will leave the fuel pump running if in an accident rather than cutting it out if air bags deployed or something like that.
But, we're driving Chryslers so a fire filled image of death just isn't that scary anymore.
Thank you so much. My 2012 T&C had the exact same issue last Wednesday.
I had it towed to an independent auto shop and the technician diagnosed the issue as TIPM fuel pump relay and temporarily fixed it with a bypass. Unfortunately, Chrysler dealership would not sell him the actual fuel pump relay.
So I had to “drive” the car to the dealership. It has been 2 business days and the technician there still could not figure out the issue because the minivan actually starts.😂
I already ordered the part from Vertical Visions (with next day shipping). Then, I will fix it myself before I go out of town for Christmas party.
Again, Many many thanks to your video!!!!
By the way, can’t believe your minivan has more than 240k miles.
Mine is less than 150k. It gives me confidence that my T&C might be able to run for another 100k miles 😃
Bought it with 150,000 miles. I’ve stuck with Pennzoil platinum for the oil changes and have only had to change the alternator and now this mechanically speaking. I did change the spark plugs for maintenance when I bought it, and it has a check engine light currently because of a bad catalytic converter sensor but still runs and drives great.
@Ka Heng Liew did the bypass work for your van?
@@austinmartens7374 it has been working fine after 7 weeks. 🙂
How was the Christmas party?
Thanks! I just bought a used 2009 with 97 K. It runs good! It needs a shifter cable because sometimes it won’t go into park and you won’t know until you try to start it up and it won’t start because the shift lever is stuck. Quick fix for that with a screwdriver 😁 other than that may need some suspension work. I like the room inside as I’m pretty much living in it 👍
I just ordered mine and I'm crossing my fingers in hopes that it solves my problem. Until seeing this video I was sure the pump itself was cutting out and I guess it still might be. Once I install this I guess I'll know for sure. Thank you. 😊
Thanks for posting, didn't know that they made a lil kit for the fix...I had to put the wires and connectors together myself! Thanks again for the info.
Thank you, my van went down today for the same issue.
Been having this issue for a month, thank you very much for posting!!!😮🎉
Thank you for this got the part in today and fixed the family vehicle. Awesome work man
I was sure it was my key fob until it wasnt. I ordered the part and am depending on this little miracle to work.
Did you find a fix? I've done the same thing because it is acting like it did when my key fob died. I bought the fuel pump bypass and still cranking with no start.
Just ordered one. Thanks.
It’s been starting then shutting off then starting on the second try intermittently for a while. Now it’s just cranking. I really don’t have the money to take it to a shop. Hopefully you saved me.
Any update?
@@iam_rgo2289 yeah. Sorry I should have updated. You don’t notice a problem when you don’t have it. The cars been starting fine.
Thanks much!! I would have been looking at at towing charge to a repair shop - where they would have first installed a fuel pump and then probably a new TIPM; and then presented a bill of $1,000 or more. My only concern is the longevity of the circuit board in a hot engine bay.
I’ve put on close to another 30,000 miles since this video and have had no issues since. Hot or cold days.
@@Type5Reviews Well, thanks again. Got it today in just 5 days since order. And the car started right up.
Glad it worked out and saved you a lot of money.
My 2008 Town and Country hopefully will get this product installed by me tomorrow morning
Did this work for you as I have an 08 T&C limited 4.0 doing something similar shows code for camshaft position sensor replaced it and still does it so wondering if this is the issue with mine.
@@adambritner9320same…did you try this fix?
That worked on our van thanks for making the video
Thanks for sharing this info it is a godsent and got me back on the road, .........blessings to you !
Omg ty sir for ur video if it wasn't for that me and my husband's would have kept trying to fix it and with that piece it worked one try and started up and now my door unlock and lock as well lol and my remote works better
This is crazy! My mom’s Routan is in the dealership right now and is getting quoted for $1,997 + tax for a brand new TIPM!
Never mind I looked on that website and got my answer for 2007. and yes it’s included .

Now
As I was watching this, I was wondering why not just change the relay if that's the problem? But the company's website explains that the relay is **soldered** to a circuit board inside the TIPM. Chrysler engineering strikes again!
This tutorial save my day❤
I bought one and it worked fine for almost 2 years now its doing the same thing
Guessing we're going to the TIPM jumper to the fuel pump.
Issue i have still with my 2012 T&C is that when it's 25 Degrees out their is little to no chance it will fore. Can get the sputter and spits every time but that fire isn't happening. For years I just drive it 9 months out of the year given the NW Ohio weather pattern.
Can't figure out why it's not starting in the cold though. The TIPM Jumper Wire was already an issue I had corrected on mine.
BRACE FOR VENT COMMENT:
Such BS that Chrysler became what it had in making vehicles like this.
Thank you it was helpful
So my van has "stalled out" while driving and end up having it towed home (it's happened a few times) then it will start after it sits for awhile. But when it stalls while driving it, it will keep cranking but won't start again right away. Going to order this and hope it helps
My van is doing the same thing. Did you have any luck?
Exact problem with my 2012 VW Routan. Thanks. Why not just replace the fuel pump relay?
The relay I believe is actually soldered to the board and not easily replaced.
So, by putting the fuses into this circuit board, you are basically bypassing the relay to prove that the relay is bad. Very handy circuit board thing for troubleshooting. My question is, since you proved the relay bad, are you going to replace the bad relay and pull your CB TESTER out, and put those fuses back where they came from?
The bad relay is soldered into the board and not easily replaceable. The device installed bypasses the defective relay so that the fuel pump turns on with the ignition correctly. Without it my van wouldn’t work, so it was left in.
Life saver! Thank you!
Hola genial me funcionó tal y como está el vídeo gracias ✌️
So my 2016 chrysler t&c limited L will start but the first time turning the key they van just cranks it won't start till you shut the van off then restart it will start up but I have this bypass already this is supper frustrating I've watched videos but haven't found any regarding the vans being bypassed already and have the start crank issues so what could that be ??
Mines was doing the same thing. I ordered and used it lasted 2 maybe 3 months and I am having the same issue. I'm back to square 1
Hi william, did you found out the problem with your van?
Right, im having the same problem just a week later but I also drove 1500 miles
@solidsnake2261 sorry for the late response my mechanic said it must be the TIPM switch. And he would have to change everything inside the fuse box. So I got rid of it and got me a 2020 Ram 1500
Am going to try this.. thanks
I'll keep this in mind. Mine just did the same thing but I removed the push start and used the key and it worked. Pretty sure the WIN is bad in mine
Was it the WIN? I've done the bypass for the fuel relay but still having the same problem and I'm thinking it's the WIN module too. It acts just like it does when the key fob went bad, crank, no start.
@TrevorsMailbox I haven't changed it yet. Works great with remote start. Only gives me problems every once in a while. I just cycle back to off and try again till it starts.
@@brodaciousmax8025 got ya. Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it very much.
Thanks man, my van just broke down with the same problem, I’m going to order this and hope that was the problem. I will update you.
Did it work. I want to hear from a few more ppl before I order. It seems they have two different kinds
No it didn’t work, I order the wire one not the circuit board maybe that’s the problem. But with the wire it didn’t work.
@@emt866 unfortunately it didn't work for me either.. my van actually needed a new fuel pump
@@milagrossmith4891 hey how much did you pay to get you fuel pump exchange?
@@emt866 he charged $450 for the labor. I purchased my own fuel pump RockAuto. I bought a brand called Carter
VV part Worked for a couple months. Now its back to the same thing. Cranking and not starting
Great informative video! I wonder if this will work on my 2011 Dodge grand Caravan. I’ve been having the same problem. I’ll crank it five times and then the six time it will turn on then I’ll crank it three times and then it turns on.
That year is affected by this problem, so if it’s the fuel relay it could be the fix you need.
@@Type5Reviews I actually made my own bypass for my van and got home from work 😂. Thanks! I ordered the wire bypass from Amazon for $14 and it should be here tomorrow. What a dumb design huh.
I have a 2011 town and country. Crank no start.. figured it was the fuel pump, changed that still wouldn’t start. Got a bypass, still wouldn’t start. Sent in my tipm, turns out the fuel pump relay was bad. The company changed that and checked the whole box and said everything was fine. Installed the new TIPM and still NO START. I’m a mom of four and completely lost! I can’t find anything on Google with the same issues! Any advice???
My 2012 t&c 3.6 crank but won’t start sometimes. Usually buy the 2 or 3rd try. It’ll start. I have new battery. Tested alternator and starter both hood. Could this be the issue.
Ordered part and hoping it is the fix!!!!
Ok I ordered part. Put it in and guess what. Yesterday after a long ride I got into garage. Turned off van and unloaded it. (Luggage) then went to move van back and guess what. It wouldn’t start. Let it sit for 20 min then it was able to restart again. Ugh!!!! Wish I had a fix that worked for good!!!!
Awesome!
Thanks a lot
Thank you so much for helping us
I just have one question, is this temporary until i fix the issue or i don't have to worry about it again ?
I would call it a permanent fix. It worked on my van for over a year until I sold it and is still working on the van as I see it driving around town still with the same fix.
@Type5Reviews i received that part yesterday and my Van started easily... you helped me to save more than 300 dollars
I really appreciate your help 🙏
You are the boss ✌️
Why not replace the relay itself?
check to make sure it actually turns off after 5 seconds when you shut the engine off if not your fuel pump will stay on putting wear and tear on it also killing your battery where i had to get jump started yes my truck battery is new
I tried jumping a wire across the fuses shown and had issues like car would not shut off or the fuel pump would stay on is this a relay system or just a jumper
Unfortunately I don’t know the details on how the device itself works. All I know is that it bypasses the fuel pump relay to turn on the fuel pump when the car is turned on. There is another method that uses just a bypass wire to the same effect, but I don’t know what fuses that method uses.
Thank you for this great informative video. So after checking the website it seems there are two different relays. One is 59 and the other one is $99. Is there a difference in which one do you recommend thank you
Both fix the problem but the most expensive one has a few extra features that allow you to do some extra diagnostics/testing. I bought the cheaper one and the van is still running great.
I have a question, how did you determine it wasn't getting fuel? Did you just spray starting fluid and it started with starting fluid?
I didn’t go that far. I assumed that since the battery and spark plugs were good that it must not be getting fuel. Since the problem was intermittent but getting more frequent, after doing some of my own online research it lead me to a faulty fuel pump relay, which was fixed by the bypass. It’s been running ever since.
Mine starts I have the piece you are talking about in this video. It just idles rough then dies
Having same problem, intermittently not starting, on a 2013 Chrysler van. Ordered jumper cable from Vertical Visions. Now, if it fixes the the problem, I was wondering if I can leave the jumper cable installed indefinitely? Thanks so much for the video.
I've left mine in since creating the video and the van is still running strong with over 270,000 miles.
I have a 2011 and this just started happening. Crank, crank, nothing. If i start it like 2 or 3 times it will fire up. I wonder if this is my issue too.
My Chrisley town country van 02 won't start but it turns on light but sometimes it doesn't start
I'm having almost the same issue, it sounds like you aren't getting any fuel at all, but mine seems to get a little bit but just barely not enough to start. Sometimes it'll get up to 1.5k rpm and i'll think it started and then it shuts off
Would this fix the issue or do you think it's a leak or a clog?
Mine did this a few times, where it would barely start then die. Not often though. But it’s possible it could be the same issue. If you have a charger or jumper cables you could see if charging the battery makes it more likely to start since more voltage seems to help with temporarily with a bad relay, but not always. And realistically for the price it’s a lot cheaper than taking it in and getting a fuel pump, especially if it’s not needed. Good luck.
I have to ask. Why wouldn't one just replace the fuel pump relay?
I just saw another comment. Apparently Chrysler solder the relay to the PCB, so it cannot be changed.
@@matthewpace5834that's fucking crazy
What about a bypass tester could that work the same as vertical visions?
Thanks
What exactly is the part that i need to buy, in order to fix the same problem in my van?
great!
hey...hello, I have a doubt, why have a point of a connect to ground (GND) on middle of circuit board?
Did this problem start slowly or was it just bam! I’m here.
A little of both. It did it less than a handful of times over the past 2 years, then this past year it started doing it very frequently over the course of a couple of days until it got to the point where it wouldn’t startup anymore. I haven’t had any issues though since bypassing it when I made the video. The van has over 252,000 miles and is still going strong.
Thank you for this! Question. Is there a quick temporary fix to get it started while waiting for the part? Have to move the car
You can use a single wire I believe to form a bypass. Search for TIPM bypass and you may find another video on what fuses to jump with a wire while waiting on the part.
@@Type5ReviewsI've been using a bypass cable for months and it just started doing it again. Is this a scenario that your part will likely fix? Happened first day back in the low teens temps.
If it's not the fuses, what's the relay fuse number
This a problem on the 05 T&C? I’m having this issue
I guess I'm a little lost at the need for all this... Why couldn't you just change the faulty fuel pump relay to fix the issue??
The fuel pump relay is soldered into the fuse box and not easily changeable. This device bypasses the bad relay and turns on the fuel pump with the ignition.
@@Type5Reviewsahhh, ok. That makes sense now. I was thinking it was just one of the plug and play ice cube relays that you find on the top side of the TIPM. Thank you. 👍
Do they make those circuit boards for a 2010 dodge ram 1500 5.7L V 8 ?
Can I just replace the actual relay instead of this?
The relay is soldered to the fuse box, so it’s not easily replaceable. This device bypasses it.
What’s the name of the specific part that you changed ?
I have a 2009 that is doing this I have bought new rely it works fine till it is like in the 99 degree outside them it messes up did it today
I feel of all my relay all of them you can barely hold your finger to the they are so hot
Would this issue throw any codes?
How can I get one
Mine will do this, but then I turn it off and then it starts right up
My 2011 chrysler town and country still isnt starting after getting and installing this piece please help.. battery been replaced, ignition coils and spark plugs..
WIN module? Did you ever figure it out? I'm in the same boat. I got the part for the TIPM but still nothing.
My van slowed down on the freeway so.i had to come to a complete stop and park it. I could not move after I put it back on drive. So I turned off the van. After I tried to turn it on again, the Van's engine would just start shaking but wouldn't start. Does this sound like it could be the problem? Two mechanics think some sorta belt broke off and my father in law sent me this video. As far as we could see belts are intact. Everything works inside van.
That’s a tough one. Mine only had starting issues due to the bad delay, but once it was started it ran. If it’s a different sound than the cranking sound in the video you may be dealing with something else.
I saw that the engine light still came on when you started it. Does implementing this (I have one, but just the jumper style to the back cig lighter) Did this cause the U0-141 code to happen? This is my issue now. (I did the removal of the leads to the battery taped together trick to drain the capacitors, btw.)
thanks. Gimmee armstrong steering and a flat six. grrrr
My engine light was on for a completely separate issue in the exhaust. Actually it’s still on but it’s been running fine for the last 100,000 miles. 😂 Currently at 270,000.
Is this safer than using the bypass wire trick?
I can’t really say in terms of “safer”, but it’s been reliably working for me for the past 30,000 miles.
This is EXACTLY what my 2012 T&C does. I am hopeful that this will fix my van. I was curious if there was a code that showed up. My dealership told me it was my PCM, and then wanted to tell me it was my TIPM and wanted to charge me $3,000 to fix. Then I took it to a local mechanic and he told me to just get rid of my van and get a brand new one because the TIPM was not repairable. Can anyone please tell me if it shoots out any codes, so that I can check if they are the same for my van? Thanks in advance.
Mine did not give out any specific codes that I’m aware of for this issue specifically. I had and still have a check engine light due to a bad O2 sensor by the catalytic converter that I haven’t replaced but when I got the codes read I don’t believe anything showed up for this. And because the issue tends to be intermittent until it ultimately fails, if you get the van started to be able to test for a code then the relay would have been working on that attempt anyways if that makes sense. I’m not affiliated with the company that makes this fix at all, but for the price if you are having the same issue I’d recommend trying it out before selling the van outright.
I noticed videos 2 months old were having the same issue with my wife's Van year making model... Is there any other codes or issues it's had since you bypassed it
I have a bad O2 sensor on mine that is giving me a code that I haven’t replaced, but I haven’t had any issues with the van since installing the bypass. It starts up every time now.
You are still beautiful lady
And a blessing God bless you all Daniel
what's the part name??
Would this also be for the 2010 with the 4.0L engine ? I went as far as getting a new TIPM from Maks, but it starts but doesn't stay running.
I wouldn’t be able to confirm, but that sounds like a different issue to me unfortunately.
