Congrats on starting a new job. Aussie working habits, 888, 8 of work, 8 of zzz, 8 of me time, & guilt free annual leave, enjoy, here’s to your future 🍾 🥂, cheers!
The kangaroo has been historically a staple source of protein for some indigenous Australians. Kangaroo meat is very high in protein and very low in fat (about 2%). Kangaroo meat has a very high concentration of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) when compared with other foods. CLA has been attributed with a wide range of health
SUGGESTION: Get out to Healesville Sanctuary. See some wildlife but especially the Lyrebird that mimics all the Birds as well as Chainsaws, Car Alarms, RobotR2D2 etc..unbelievable.
With Vegemite spread it on toast with lots of butter or margarine. Most important spread it on lightly. Also slice of cheese with it goes well with Vegemite too.
If you are having trouble getting a job. Take another approach. Pick where you want to work, then go in there, ask if they have any jobs, or any coming up and drop your resume off. Then also ask, if they know of any jobs anywhere else that they may know of Sometimes you will get to go to the HR department and while you are applying you may get an interview. Its not about waiting for it to come to you, but going out and getting it. Being confident. Particularly with marketing, that confidence and putting yourself out there is what they like. You can do that with hospitality. Definitely connect to people through communication. People tell you all sorts of things if you are prepared to listen.
Love this video! I can’t recommend kangaroo burgers enough - absolutely spot on for a BBQ, proper lean meat and tasty too. Also a Saint Kilda to Brighton run when you catch a good sunset is quality 🙌
Yeah Trudy, keep pushing with the job applications. Tends to be a numbers game. RSA course is a good idea. Once you do that, work will be available. Good luck.
The beach is known locally as Dendy Beach. The buildings were originally built to be used as boat sheds.Over the years they have morphed into storage sheds for water sport equipment, beach furniture etc They are also used as a safe financial investment. No more are permitted to be built and consequently the demand for the boat sheds has made them valuable assets
You have to be a local resident to have a bathing box. They’re mostly used to store beach stuff and as shelters. They don’t have power or water but they sell for huge amounts of money.
you;ll never forget you are POMS, but soon you will feel like you are Aussies. Please keep blogging, looking forward to your progress. Thank you (just subbed)
Another great vlog! I am loving experiencing my home through the both of you. Congrats on the new job. I am only a few mins drive away from Brighton. I'm always there for my weekend brunch. When the water warms up, there's a beach near Brighton where you can go hunting for fossils. From Fossilised coral, crustaceans are all very easy to find. You'll have to go into the drink if you're looking for larger megalodon teeth. There's also the chance for you to see little penguins at the st Kilda breakwater at around sunset.
Oh and for my favourite pub suggestions close to you: the Middle Park Hotel, wonderful wedding cake Victorian building, great to soak up the sun - catch the light rail / tram from st kilda and alight at middle park stop.
I suggest doing the RSA ( responsible service of alcohol) and a Barista course Both are quick, not expensive and done pretty much at every TAFE. Look up courses at William Angliss in the city. The advantage is it is a Hospitality college and has connections to industry.
The owners paint them. Some are basic. Some have sofas etc in them. Illegal to sleep in them. Brighton is a suburb and one of the most wealthy in Melbourne. One sold in feb for $400k (£200k) There are more down the coast at Mornington and between Safety Beach and McCrae.

SLIP SLOP SLAP AND WRAP is taught to children from an early age in Oz. Slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, slap on a HAT - a wide brimmed one (which I haven't seen on you, yet) and wrap on sunglasses. Australia's sun is extremely harsh, partly due to our land which is at the 'bottom' of the earth and the tilt of the poles making it nearer to the sun. We did also have a hole in the ozone layer which contributed to less protection but that has shrunk and moved further south now. It is pouring rain and the weather bureau states that we might be in for another ' LA Nina' of wet weather (as opposed to 'El Nino' of dry weather) . Victoria's/Australia's weather in mainly influenced by the weather over the Pacific Ocean from South America, the weather from the Indian Ocean. These are called dipoles as they move forwards and backwards, taking years to do so, and the Southern oscillation from the Antarctic below. The farmers in the Western District of Victoria will be happy with the rain as they are experiencing drought. Our chocolate is treated so as not to make is melt in our hot weather which is said to detract from the taste. Many of the birds making that noise are horrible Indian miners , an introduced species. We have too many kangaroos in Australia, Their numbers have increased hugely since European settlement. There were no farms with grassy, green pastures to feed on before that. Plus the indigenous peoples killed them for food and pelts.
Thanks for coming back to watch again Barnowl, the factor 50s on!! Edd got caught in alot of rain at work today and it was the first proper downpour we have seen since being here but guess thats just the way it goes in Melbourne!! Also we both, even Trudy loved the kanga bangas.
@@TrudyandEddTravel Also forgot to mention that that horrible birdsong cacophony at sundown probably is starlings, another introduced species. The lorikeets (parrots) also make a noise during the day but their colorful plumage make up for it. I think the rain in Oz is different to that in the UK. It's heavier. I remember my mother commenting about the rain to the relatives in the UK. Glad you're wearing the sunscreen but when the weather gets hotter, don't forget a wide brimmed hat. The sporty type of hats with a peak at the front won't do as they don't shade the ears and neck. A lot of skin cancers are found on the tops of ears, especially on men. All children in primary schools must wear a hat as part of the uniform. No hat, no play(ing outside) is the rule. Some secondary schools continue this. I'm enjoying your videos. Your happy personalities fits in with the sunny, optimistic nature of Australia's persona.
Kangaroo is fine. As mince, it's essentially the same taste as lean beef. You might notice some slight difference if you ever have a kangaroo fillet. Re: cappuccinos, the proper temperature is warm rather than hot, so as not to scald the milk. That's how most cafes serve it. Unfortunately, there are some fools in Australia who expect all coffee to be hot, so you probably struck a cafe that has customers like this. Trust me, if you ask for a 'hot cappuccino' in good cafes, like the Italian cafes along Lygon Street, they will probably chuck you out!

If you don't like British Marmite, then despite Vegemite being somewhat different, it's not different enough to make a huge difference. Usually, if you enjoy the deep savouriness (Umami) of British Marmite, then Vegemite isn't a big jump as they are very close to each other on the flavour wheel, although do have different textures. If somehow you've never done British Marmite, then be very careful jumping straight into Vegemite. First thing you need to ask is, would you chug a strong Soy Sauce straight from the bottle?. If the answer to that is "HELL NO", then start off very, very lightly because you can always put more on if you want but you can never remove an overdose of it, no matter how much scraping you do lol
Congrats on the job. Just a wee bit early to jump in the sea yet. You will notice that a lot of children and some adults will be wearing rashies at the beach in Summer. Rashies offer up to a 50+ sun protection factor and mean you only have to put sunscreen on your legs and face. If you want to get a bit of Vitamin D and colour without covering up or slathering on 50+, go out for an early morning walk in Summer or pop down to the beach before 10 am or after 5 pm with a lower Factor sun screen. And, protect your head because the after effects of scalp burn resembles dandruff, eek.
