It is interesting that you choose Melbourne VIC, as a lot of fellow expats from the UK who have just moved to Oz with RUclips channels, have chosen to move to QLD. And by the way an Melbourne winter is relatively mild compared to a UK winter.
We initially chose Melbourne because Edd has a few friends who have lived here a few years now and they really like it. We are excited to explore more of Aus but we already love Melbourne! Thanks for your comment :)
The bird with a mowhawk is a hooded pigeon. If you get past the point of their heads, you can see splashes of colour on them. They are lovely birds. Australia has a ton of birds that are different and unique species.
If you want good quality cordial, the bickfords brand is great, it’s in glass bottles & you can get it at Coles or Woolies (yes they do have sugar free) most Aussies grew up on Cottees, but I’m not sure if they do sugar free, I tend to stick with the bickfords…. For a really good pie you can buy a two pack of National Pies at Coles or Woolies - as a former Tasmanian, I may be biased, but I think they’re the best!
Ninchi!! Your back providing great info again. Bickfords has come up 3x in the comments already so its a sure fire thing. I'll put national pies on the list then see if I can get Trudy on side with those ones!
When you get a spare moment, Luna Park at St Kilda is a lot of fun if amusement parks amuse you. Chadstone Shopping centre is probably your nearest large shopping centre. Eureka tower in the CBD for sightseeing, Healesville Wildlife Park in the Yarra Valley to see native Australian animals, Phillip Island to see fairy penguins in summer, koalas and Australian fur seals. Sovereign Hill at Ballarat and Kryal castle enroute. Later the 12 Apostles and Port Campbell, Dandenong Ranges, Apollo Bay, Mornington Peninsula, Wilsons Prom, Walhalla & Hanging Rock. The Grampians / Halls Gap for a long weekend.
Yes, Bickford's cordial. Lemon, Lime and Bitters is my fave. And yes, indigenous pigeons. Along with parrots and songbirds, pigeons originally Australian birds. The ever popular feral pigeons of Trafalgar Square were introduced to Aus by helpful euros. Maiinly Crested (with noisy wings) and Bronzewing pigeons around Melbourne. (apart from the feral variety). And seek out coffee shops that don't offer Italian brands coffee. The are many artisnal roasters locally... no need for mass produced iffy stuff. Enjoy...
I cannot impress on your enough how important Factor 50 sunscreen is, every day! Just because Melbourne is not as hot as elsewhere,we still have the same sun. I have had friends come from Darwin, Perth and Qld all get sunburnt in Melbourne on a sunny 16o day. Australia is closer to the Equator than Europe. It is 11 minutes to burn time here. I sht you not.
Melbourne can be like the Sahara Desert on some summer days. Then 20c the next day. There are plenty of good public swimming pools around Melbourne. I use to go to the Prahran, Clayton and Noble Park Pools on 38c - 40c + days
I love curry pies or chicken and leek pies or vegetarian pies . Gum nuts bakery has beautiful pies and cakes in Bowral NSW It is 1 hour and 10 min drive from my home in Sydney . ST Kilda in Melbourne has a beautiful bakery apparently . Thank you for your beautiful video .
Cordial is mainly a child's drink in Australia so the local brands tend to be mass-produced, sugary and lacking in any real flavour. Premium brands like Bickfords or Billsons are the go but they can be pricey. You'll find Bisto in the foreign foods section at some supermarkets but the Australian equivalent is called Gravox.
Don't worry they are as common as pigeons, as are cockies ( sulphur crested cockatoos) galahs ( grey and pick parrots) and corellas ( white cockatoos with a splash of blood red) You'll see billions. Put native birdseed on a window ledge if you have no garden@@TrudyandEddTravel
I like my pies on a pea floater. Imagine a slightly soupier version of your mushy peas. With a huge dollop of dead horse on top. That's what we call tomato sauce. You'll loose it when you see flocks of cockies and galahs just chilling around. I have red and yellow tailed black cockies flying around my area (25mins from st kilda).
Cant have rego plates that are offensive. 95 is the caf i go to on Acland street when down there. Cordial i like Lemon, Lime and Bitters by Bickfords. Dinkum pies incentral Melbourne is not bad.
@@TrudyandEddTravel If you love seeing or hearing all types of birds, the most ideal spot to have a walk around is up in the Dandenongs. Obviously you both have no car yet, so the best way to get up the Dandenongs is go into the city first, and catch a train from either Flinders Street or Southern Cross station to the Belgrave line. It is about an hour out of city by train. I rented in a place called Tecoma about 15 years ago and remember the sound of the birds and seeing so many different ones is amazing up there. There is a train station at Tecoma. It is about the second last stop or so, on that Belgrave line. Tecoma does not have much shops so if you want something to bite up there, Belgrave is the place to go, but for walking around to see birds, just wander around a few residential gravel road streets in the bush of Tecoma and you will end up seeing and hearing so many birds. It certainly a different experience that inner city suburb of St.Kilda, where you seem to be based.
I wouldnt buy pies from a butcher or a supermarket I prefer getting them from someone who specialises in making pies such as a bakery. Like you I also wouldnt eat hot pies with a salad because for me its j2 things that just dont go together. The main ingredient of a traditional coleslaw is uncooked shredded cabbage if you just want a basic coleslaw buy it in from the deli section at Coles or Woolies in whatever size tub you want.. I like our native pidgeons like the top notches your saw in the park but the introduced ones that hang around in cities etc. are more like flying rats.
Your pie advise is noted Davo, thanks for the tip I thought your more likely to get a good pie from a butcher than from a bakery! Maybe the reviews will come back to the channel at some point, hope you enjoyed.
@@lesliedavis2185 Tomayto tomarto. It's pronounced halepenyo in every pizza & kebab shop I've been into in recent years, but they've been in Victoria & NSW. Mexico has been a bit too far.

We didnt even realise till with our friends the other day what a BWS was in woolies. Then it all made sense!

You need to get transition lens on your glasses. It's a game changer with the Aussie sun.
