This was incredibly helpful! I enjoy how you don't make people feel guilty for not being tidy and organized all the time because that's what I was doing to myself which is just demotivating.
I never thought about how everything needs a home. That makes a lot of sense, I've been struggling with STAYING organized and that might be the key to that haha
Had a friend who stored her cups with the dishes, her sugar in the food pantry, the coffee in the freezer and spoons in the drawer. She opened and closed 10 things just to make a cup of coffee. So I emptied the little cupboard above the coffee maker that I moved next to the faucet, stocked the cupboard with her cups, filters, spoons, coffee, sugar, creamer, etc... and she has not stopped singing about it and how easy it is now. I totally get what you are talking about. Work with your life.
Eventually it all becomes second nature! I remember being so frustrated in the beginning and now I'm at the point of making sure my spice labels are all front-facing haha
I feel like this video spoke to my soul 😂 I just went out and bought three packs of brand new hangers to try hanging my clothes instead of folding, cause folding just hasn't been working for me.
As soon as you said everything has a place I stopped the video and started cleaning one thing at a time... My room looks cleaner. Lol but my anxiety is now high.. I'll get back to the video soon. Thank you for posting!
I think the way you articulated minimalism finally clicked for me? I have a lot of art and school supplies and nothing feels right where it is most of the time. Makes sense that i have to optimize and organize things differently. Thanks!!!
Like Katrin said, the most important thing in this organization issue is to perceive what works for you, what suits you more in your life style. I go a bit further: do what works best for you in that specific environment. I explain: maybe the way you organize things in your house is different from that in the work environment. At my work, I am much more minimalistic than home. At my work, I don't wanna see anything on the desk that is not necessary for the work at the moment. On the other hand, I'm much more tolerant at home about this issue. Great video, Kat. PS: Who is more organized? You or Sonny? Or Rascal, haha?
Growing up my parent's house always had a paperbag for paper to burn. Haha I get you. People looked at me weird when I did it at my old apartment. I also use a cube organizer for socks and clothes I don't really wear that much. I am still trying to get rid of stuff.. it's a journey. I just feel attached to some of my things! 😭
I also love hangers. And drawers. My small things go mostly in boxes and organizers. I also think that there is not just one "correct " way, it really needs to work for each individual. Great video!
Hey Katrin I don't know if this helps but the first time ever I heard about the whole "everything needs a home" concept was when I first heard of Marie Kondo's method. Maybe it resonates from that :) I'm glad your walking through this whole path, because I'm doing it myself too and I find it so revealing about my own nature and power. Hugs from Spain! xoxo
Gahhh we are so similar in some aspects!! I just rearranged my wardrobe in the same way! I would point out the importance of having really good hangers so they don't get tangled and straps don't slip!
OMG 😄 I started to practise all this things and it make it so much easier to stay organized especially for lazy people. Glad that somebody else is doing also
Sometimes I forget to listen because I am staring lol you are gorgeous. Great tips! I think people get too fixed on the idea of keeping tidy in a certain way that they don't stop to think whether their house or life or habits are compatible with that method.
I hate folding, all my t-shirts get SO many creases even though I make extra efforts to fold them neatly. That is why I also prefer hangers, that is where all my other clothes are. I can even sort them by colour so basically my wardrobe is a (sometimes organized) rainbow. :)
KATRIN THIS IS SO AMAZING! I absolutely love this video- everything about it! The ideas and mindset you shared make sense to me - 100%!!! One of the best minimalism videos I have ever watched!!!
I really appreciate the idea of making staying tidy EASY on myself versus doing it the "right" way because that's what someone says we're "supposed" to do. Thanks Kat!!!
Katrin Berndt how do you declutter your wardrobe? I have so many clothes (mostly t-shirts because I love collecting them lol) and I feel so overwhelmed! My living area is way too small, and my closet is always blocked by something so I have to move whateve it is every time I want to get in it, so what happens is after I get something out to wear, I'm too lazy to put it back in the closet so it ends up on a chair folded and then that shirt turns into a pile of clothes that I stare at loathingly!! Lol .. and how do i get rid of clothes I don't wear? Why is it so difficult?! Lol .. sorry about the rant..🤗
Oh! I'm never this early... :) I can't focus with a messy home either! But I think I spend too much time organizing my apartment. Even though everything has a home... 😱
I've been meaning to put all my clothes on hangers as well because it's just so difficult to keep the stacks all neat and when I put something back I end up just shoving it in there and then clothes are just everywhere. My closet is very small and there's an awkward shelf in the way though.
What an important topic. Was just talking to my husband, Justin, about this. He told his Mom he wants to go to her house and help her clean (she is retiring soon).
Katrin Berndt I have no idea 😂 what is more I still live with my parents so we have only 1 basket for all types of clothing in many colours for 3 people 😂 sounds crazy i kno 😂
Me too 🙋🏻 I just wash everything at 60° and all the colors together (which are all dark tho so it doesn't really matter). I know that it's not probably optimal for all the clothes but nothing has gotten ruined yet at least :D
We have 2 baskets! one for towels and underwear which goes at 60 degrees and another with normal clothes which goes to my granny who washes them for us because we do not have time for them.
I freaking love you so damn much 😁 you're so inspirational & motivating you're too wonderful in your approach to soo much with yourself & more impressively other people, no exaggeration you're way too cool Thanx for another SUPERB video 💗💗💗💗💗 **i soo needed this advice 😌
Agree on that hanging topic.Reminded me of that song from Mark Foggo "What a Lovely Day for a Hanging". Well, I thing he ment a diffenent "hanging", not that sure ;-)
My life changed after I started hanging up my clothes, it made my days so much easier :) I would love to see a tour vid of your minimalism systems. Like your wardrobe and the dirty laundry baskets and other systems you've put together :) Im currently decluttering and organizing my apartment aswell and would love some ideas and ispiration. Love your videos, Kat. Have an amazing weekend! :D Lots of love from Norway your neighbour
Hhhhhhh totally understand u hangers definitely saved my life and my closet too ! I can see everything and its more easy to organize ! Totally ok with u 😍😍
Thank you for sharing ♡ I have a really hard time staying organized and I think this is going to really help me. Thank you so much again for sharing!!! 😍
Might be different in America but whites and colors can be washed together if you only wash on COLD. Of course a separate the delicate items out, but we don't really have temperature settings just cold, warm/cold, warm/warm and hot.
Every time after I tidy up. I always have many items without a home! I can't make the trash can it's home, so I just randomly put them anywhere lol. Maybe I could have a box and it's the home for the homeless items.
Very interesting video and thank you for stating that minimalism is different for everyone, there's no rule! I actually also recently posted a video about my minimalism story, and one with tips on how to become a minimalist! :)
Omg! I m so happy to find u. I totally relate to your ideas. Hopefully this video will make my life somewhat easier. Thanks a lot for your good work.👍💞💞💞💞💞
I have a question.. I really hope you'll see this. How do you feel about minimalism and having tattoos? I got tattoos before getting into minimalism and can't decide if I like them or not now just because they're expensive and they don't have a "use" technically.
With as many comments/messages you get I didn't think you'd see all of them, or even one of them. It was an attempt to reach you because I value your opinion. As an 18 year old am not as introspected or developed as you, and I can't say that I'm too sure about what's going on or my choices. No need to get upset. Thanks.
I thought I was the only weirdo with a box of spare candles! Ahahahh! Where does it goooooo? I'm on a minimal journey as well that box and a box of spare knitting tools is the only thing left without a home. Making me crazy! Hahaha :P
same, and i have a bunch of little candles that are accumulating and i dont burn them fast enough and the pile just getting bigger, almost every weekend i get some for free because religious ladies are giving them away for free for Sabbath (not just giving away but they litterly pushing into your bag)
Woof! That's a lot. My step-mom works for a florist and is always giving me leftovers from weddings (stuff that was getting thrown out anyway) --- Guess I'll just have to find a way to decorate with them!
I got the impression that you mix tidyness and organization. In my case I`m super organized in the sence that everything has its "home" and I bring back things after I used them. I don't know why, but... with this look - you could be a main character in the Vikings. So beautiful!
totally!!!

True! Sometimes you just have to force yourself to do something until you no longer have to think about doing it!
i dont have things so its easy to keep my nothing organized
:D:D:D:D mwahahahah
BEST COMMENT EVER!
best album ever.
I feel like this video spoke to my soul 😂 I just went out and bought three packs of brand new hangers to try hanging my clothes instead of folding, cause folding just hasn't been working for me.
Your hairstyle makes you look like a queen from Game of Thrones. So, so pretty!
I just have to say you look absolutely stunning in this video. This look really suits you and to be completely honest, you're my role model.
Super interesting! I think people sometimes consider other's expectations for tidiness over their own needs for organization.
I think being minimalist is so important for making life easier. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
As soon as you said everything has a place I stopped the video and started cleaning one thing at a time... My room looks cleaner. Lol but my anxiety is now high.. I'll get back to the video soon. Thank you for posting!

"Clean home clean mind" barely into the video & im already here 👏🏼 for 👏🏼 this 👏🏼 clutter drives me crazy. It needs to go somewhere.
I also love hangers. And drawers. My small things go mostly in boxes and organizers. I also think that there is not just one "correct " way, it really needs to work for each individual. Great video!
Oh my this makes so much sense! Most of the items in my house have there own spot. Every evening I tidy up before I go to bed. Love it!
Hey Katrin I don't know if this helps but the first time ever I heard about the whole "everything needs a home" concept was when I first heard of Marie Kondo's method. Maybe it resonates from that :)
I'm glad your walking through this whole path, because I'm doing it myself too and I find it so revealing about my own nature and power.
Hugs from Spain! xoxo

I agree with the bag in the kitchem. I love recycling and it encourages all my guests and family to just do it too!
I hate folding, all my t-shirts get SO many creases even though I make extra efforts to fold them neatly. That is why I also prefer hangers, that is where all my other clothes are. I can even sort them by colour so basically my wardrobe is a (sometimes organized) rainbow. :)
Your hair looks so good in this video! It frames your face so nicely.
KATRIN THIS IS SO AMAZING! I absolutely love this video- everything about it! The ideas and mindset you shared make sense to me - 100%!!! One of the best minimalism videos I have ever watched!!!

you look like a fairy here!
I think it's funny how everyone is so different. I hattteeee hangers but I love folding my clothes haha
Haha yeah that's why it's so important to do what works for you! :D Not what works for your mom or your friend!
Megan C same !! I hate taking things off and having to put them back on and I get so peeved when the hangers fall off onto the floor of the closet 😫
Katrin Berndt how do you declutter your wardrobe? I have so many clothes (mostly t-shirts because I love collecting them lol) and I feel so overwhelmed! Kaila Lewis same I want them to hang straight and the stupid straps always slide 😂
Tousled•Bird•Mad•Girl you should try out getting hanging closet shoe racks and use them to keep stacks of folded t shirts !
Oh! I'm never this early... :)
I can't focus with a messy home either! But I think I spend too much time organizing my apartment. Even though everything has a home... 😱
Lookin like a swedish goddess!

this makes so much sense
I love your "everything needs a home" concept. Unfortunately, not everything find it's way home after use lol
That does it. I'm cleaning my room tomorrow morning.
Your way of thinking is genius, Katrin!
What an important topic. Was just talking to my husband, Justin, about this. He told his Mom he wants to go to her house and help her clean (she is retiring soon).
I got only one laundry basket wow 😂
HOW?? Hahaha
Locklah Locklah I have only one too. All my clothes are black and have a similar material, washing them is so easy :D
Katrin Berndt I have no idea 😂 what is more I still live with my parents so we have only 1 basket for all types of clothing in many colours for 3 people 😂 sounds crazy i kno 😂

Katrin you look gorgeous in this!
Hair tutorial please!!! (I'm not 100% sure if you've done one) but beautiful hair style!
My life changed after I started hanging up my clothes, it made my days so much easier :)

You have such a great way with words that really resonates for me and I REALLY needed to hear something like this. Love this video thaaaaaanks.
This video is going to help me so much! Thank you!
The hanger method thingie... trademark it because it's genius!!!
This is the Japanese theory of organization. The whole "everything needs a home" is an idea i read in a book about Japanese de-cluttering
Your hair is always so pretty!
My husband and I recently moved and we've definitely been struggling with finding a home for everything!! haha
Thank you so much for this advice and inspiration ^-^
I love coat hangers, my friend loves folding
Hope you have a super duper good one too !
Hhhhhhh totally understand u hangers definitely saved my life and my closet too ! I can see everything and its more easy to organize ! Totally ok with u 😍😍
Omg thanks so much this really helps!
you're so intelligent and pretty I just die inside every time I see you 💕💕 thank you for these videos
I will lesten to this again. thank you , please have a great weekend.
You're amazing Katrin! Just what I needed to keep me motivated on organizing myself. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing ♡ I have a really hard time staying organized and I think this is going to really help me. Thank you so much again for sharing!!! 😍
Awesome hair! And nice tips
Might be different in America but whites and colors can be washed together if you only wash on COLD. Of course a separate the delicate items out, but we don't really have temperature settings just cold, warm/cold, warm/warm and hot.
+can Haha we have all temperatures ^^
I like the variation of your channel and how adorable you are Katrin Berndt
Every time after I tidy up. I always have many items without a home! I can't make the trash can it's home, so I just randomly put them anywhere lol. Maybe I could have a box and it's the home for the homeless items.
I love your videos soo much you inspire me to get my life together
What did you use to wave your hair? Ive been looking for so long for a nice light curl!!!!!! Love it ❤️
This video was very helpful for me, thx!
Very interesting video and thank you for stating that minimalism is different for everyone, there's no rule!
I actually also recently posted a video about my minimalism story, and one with tips on how to become a minimalist! :)
I feel like i really should take this way of thinking«what makes me stay organized» now that i move away to study 😅
Hi Katrin, can you please do a hair and makeup tutorial for this look please? I love it!
Omg! I m so happy to find u. I totally relate to your ideas. Hopefully this video will make my life somewhat easier. Thanks a lot for your good work.👍💞💞💞💞💞
This is honestly really helpful❤ thank you
Basically hanging clothes is "stacking" them horizontally, so that's exactly what that guy's method says :D
Really like this video, the ideas and inspiration really got, especially cause I am on my way to move. Thanks for the ideas :)
Hi Katrin!! Hair is gorgeous
Thanks for the video Katrin! I feel a little bad that I don't do my washing by temperature, everything gets chucked in at 40 😂
I used to watch you 24/7 and then I stopped, I don't know why, but I have fallen in love with your videos again
Hahah, everyone needs a break sometimes!
So beautiful!!
great video, you explained everthing very clear! :)
I have little baskets in the hallway with read and unread letters in them.
FUCK KATRIN YOUR SKIN IS SOOOOOOOOOO NICE!! Why cant we all b blessed like you :(( Girl you are GORGEOUS!!
You are so incredibly beautiful and inspiring 🖤
Seeing your face makes my day. You're so beautiful 😊
you look pretty as a fairy🧚
I have a question.. I really hope you'll see this. How do you feel about minimalism and having tattoos? I got tattoos before getting into minimalism and can't decide if I like them or not now just because they're expensive and they don't have a "use" technically.
+Gabrielle Alyse Dukeminier you don't have to spam all my social media with the same question. Pick one page and wait for my answer. Thanks.
With as many comments/messages you get I didn't think you'd see all of them, or even one of them. It was an attempt to reach you because I value your opinion. As an 18 year old am not as introspected or developed as you, and I can't say that I'm too sure about what's going on or my choices. No need to get upset. Thanks.
Omg u r such a inspiration to me,
What color/brand of lipstick is this?
I thought I was the only weirdo with a box of spare candles! Ahahahh! Where does it goooooo? I'm on a minimal journey as well that box and a box of spare knitting tools is the only thing left without a home. Making me crazy! Hahaha :P
i have a lot of spare candles too lol, it is addictive
Girl, we need to come up with some storage solutions for them ;) Where do you keep them? Mine are in a cardboard box in the closet, ugh!
same, and i have a bunch of little candles that are accumulating and i dont burn them fast enough and the pile just getting bigger, almost every weekend i get some for free because religious ladies are giving them away for free for Sabbath (not just giving away but they litterly pushing into your bag)
Woof! That's a lot. My step-mom works for a florist and is always giving me leftovers from weddings (stuff that was getting thrown out anyway) --- Guess I'll just have to find a way to decorate with them!
i think that it is really cool for crafting! all the decorations
You are so beautiful!! ❤️❤️❤️
I got the impression that you mix tidyness and organization. In my case I`m super organized in the sence that everything has its "home" and I bring back things after I used them. But my problem is to clean the carpet, the windows and put away the dust from surfaces. That` what I call tidyness and I thought you also talk about.
In my opinion, having clean surfaces and not leaving stuff where it doesn't belong = tidiness. :)
I thought you said "And ofc MALE can go to garbage...", I was like WUUT 😂 Have a wonderful day beautiful! ^^☀️
can you please please please make more hair and make up tutorials?? love your hair
Loved this video, great tips and points! Btw, can you soon upload another vlog/chitchat video og livestream? Love you
Omg I love your hair so much! 💜 have you ever died your hair? The colour is beautiful 😌
Does anyone know the name of the fond that Katrin's name is written in on her youtube page its so nice!!
So gorgeouuuus!
I find i loose motivation to stay organised if things arent easily accessed. E.g a diary/planner that isnt where you tend to sit or situate yourself (Desk/coffee table/handbag) ect you wont be motivated to use it, if its not seen you wont go out of your way to use it. Same goes with keeping things tidy like kitchenwares ect. Its all about easy access and it slowly just becoming second nature, when you push yourself to do something it becomes more of a burden than organisation. When i come home from work i wash my clothing straight away so its not laying around needing to be done and doing things like after dinner doing the dishes and wiping down the benches. Organisation is about making your life easier and more care free rather than making it stressful and putting pressure on yourself. Another thing stop comparing your life to someone elses, what works for one might not work for another :) If you know you wont do something, figure out a way that works for you, even if its not aesthetically pleasing, do it.
You're so stunning... I can't deal 😍
I’ve never heard of using different temperatures for laundry. Am I sheltered or...?
+Antz Valentini Hahah. Depends on how old you are I guess 😅 That's what the little tag on all clothing is for. To tell you how to wash 'em and at what temperature.
I've come around to the point in my life where I just wash everything in cold water.
What if you hate both, hanging and folding
I despise hanging and folding. I only hang my nice shirts and dresses. Everything else gets thrown in specific drawers in my dresser that are separated by category but nothing is folded. It works really well for me. The downside is unfolded clothes take up more space.
I have baskets on a shelf for (unfolded) underwear and hooks on the wall for things that might normally go on hangers. I also have very few articles of clothing, so it works for me, so. There's only three sets of hooks: night clothes, clothes not dirty enough to wash (jeans I'll wear the next day maybe) and the rest of my shirts, which sometimes do go on hangers so they don't get those pointy bits from being on the hook. Other jeans are folded (the ones I wear less often).
Omg whoa!!! your dog is named Rascol too?????
Haha yes! ^^
