Thank you!! One of my biggest problems with the community that surrounds minimalism is this culture of shame that wants to force people into boxes, and shame them when they, or their belongings don't fit into that box. It really is a problem because minimalism is a lifestyle that is personal to each person and no one else can decide what adds value to your life except you. So thank you for making this video. Helpful for tattoos, but also touches on points far beyond that.
100% agree! I hate when people take it to the point where they force their own views on others, when in fact it's like you say - it's personal to each person! :)
Agreed. It is the same with eating a vegan diet. People say "oh you say you are vegan, but then you wear leather shoes.. or nike shoes (child labor).. That doesn't fit.." Well, then call it what you want if you need me to be in a box. You can't please everybody and there is a larger spectrum to it other than 1 box.
As far as veganism goes, I've come to the conclusion that being "vegan" encompasses the entire lifestyle, whereas the food side of it is "plant based". Either way though, I agree, the titles don't really matter, do what you feel is right for your life :)
It's about having things that make you happy, spending your money and time on things needed in your life. It's about getting rid of unnecessary crap and be happy. Do what makes you happy!
Everyone has the right to their own lifestyle and i love it how you genuinely explain from your pov and that you don't force your opinion/pov in others faces or throats. I am minimalistic when it comes to friends and social life(for my personal reasons though!) But i must also say that other body mods has nothing to do with minimalism or other lifestyles at all. Express yourself however the hell you want! Point is also to not give a flying fuck about others thoughts
The one tattoo I have (thus far) is script that says "live simply" so I'm gonna say your thoughts on this topic really resonate with me! Tattoos don't have to have anything to do with minimalism, but definitely can if you want them to!
I've made a new account but this is the same person who asked you about tattoos/minimalism. I really appreciate your answer to the question, thank you.
I absolutely loved this video. I'd never thought of the relationship between tattoos and minimalism so it was nice to have some food for thought. I agree that minimalism should be something along the lines of spending your money/time wisely, and as you said, if you find more value in a tattoo than in buying 5 shirts, then tattoos can be a part of your minimalist journey. I also really like the way your tattoos pop up when you're wearing black and white. Nice video 😊
I loved how positive this video was! You always talk about minimalism, and I always thought that it was definitely not for me. But the way you explain it in this video is much more appealing than the thought of minimalism I had in my head. Thanks for the video!
I swear to god, some people take this minimalism thing way too far. Your video made me think about something again, although it's a bit off topic. There's a german RUclipsr, I will not tell her name here, who actually went as far as to give all her clothes and things away, she has like two dresses and a jacket and that's it, she even gave away her apartment so she could just travel. WHICH IS FINE, BUT she has a 6 year old son and did that to all his things without asking him about it as well, last time she made a video about their current belongings that boy had like two books and a few Lego stones and she said in a vlog that they now threw the stones out as well. Now they're travelling around in asia, her son is not going to school (in Germany you HAVE to go to school, homeschooling is not allowed here) and all of that in the name of minimalism. Although I think that it wouldn't be a problem if she would do all of it alone, at last she's an adult, I do think it's a problem to force your lifestyle onto others, in this case "others" being your child. But like I said: Totally off topic, and only my tiny opinion.
+Arthur Maxson You seem to know an awful lot about a RUclips you don't seem to like. As parents raising a child, that is literally forcing your lifestyle onto another human. Same with religion, diet, etc etc. It doesn't sound like she is taking bad care of her child, and since she's traveling around Asia, why would German law apply? I just don't see why you are outraged. There are things people do to their children that are way worse than traveling around the world, teaching a child that material items aren't equal to happiness. But this is just my opinion.
Thank you so much for making videos that help people understand minimalism! So often people only have one definition that forces all of the different minimalists into a box. Love your channel!
I love minimalism as a tool in figuring out what serves me and what I want in my life. And figuring out what distracts me from it. I also love the channel thriving minimalists. He also talk a lot about self love which I've been super excited about lately
The first thing I thought when I saw the title was: if you can have a picture hung on the wall and still be minimalist, why wouldn't you be while having tattoos? Before anyone adds it, I am perfectly aware that there are no exact rules to being a minimalist and that it is perfectly subjective. I just wanted to make this parallel. Someone may not feel that having a painting on their wall fits in their idea of minimalism.
It's really amazing how many aspects of minimalism we can find. And how each one can be adjusted to one's needs. It's a deep and interesting subject indeed and you, Katrin, has educated your audience so well in such issue. It would be great if people were minimalist before spitting hate comments on social media, saying nothing when they have nothing to say.
Thank you for this video, and for documenting your minimalistic journey! You've inspired me to "declutter" my life a bit and try to live in a more minimalistic way :) I've never even thought about tattoos when thinking about minimalism, and of course, there can be different definitions of minimalism but I liked how you explained how you see tattoos in a minimalist life style.
Thank you for this video. It makes much more sense now and I've come to realize I've always been kind of a minimalist person. We all have a view of minimalism because no one really talks about the different kinds on here.
thanks for this video!:) I've been interested in minimalism for a while, but now I feel like I want to start decluttering and organizing my life more.:)
Minimalism- for me- is a lifestyle of discipline and introspection. There is nothing outside my body that will make me smarter, stronger, faster, stronger willed, more dedicated, and so on. For those things I look inward. And extend those forces outward.
Another great channel about minimalism and lifestyle is Break The Twitch! That channel has a similar healthy outlook on making minimalism work for you to improve your life.
Have you ever considered doing a podcast? It's a very different medium but I would definitely listen to your thoughts or discussions with others in a longer format as well^^
+iitu2 I have indeed thought about it but I don't want to do a podcast with just myself 'cause it's not interesting to just hear one person talk - that's what my channel is for. However I don't want a podcast with someone else either so... yeah 😅
I personally love how the minimalist Scandinavian style of clothing contrasts with tattoos. It makes them pop. Having those neutral colours let tattoos shine and stand out. Also wtf do tattoos have to do with minimalism? They don't clutter your life(?
I saw an asian girl once on RUclips that said that she was a minimalist because of consumism and that tattoos, as an expression of art, were a need for some people. And don't get offended because I pointed out that she was Asian, japanese to be precise, it's just in case you want to find her channel (i don't remember who she was)
A thing cannot be minimalistic. So tattoos are not minimalistic, they can compliment minimalistic choices for sure, but the purpose of minimalism is to have little and want nothing more. A man with tattoos shouldn't be seen as a minimalist just for having tattoos, the same as a homeless man shouldn't be seen as a minimalist for having nothing. Great video though, you present your thoughts well and view minimalism in a more modern way, I love it
Tattoos don't occupy space, so they're minimalist by default. For some people to say that tattoos aren't minimalist, that just astounds me. Edit: By 'space', I meant three-dimensional space.

I think minimalism in your clothes looks great with tattoos because when your clothes are simple it really lets your tattoos shine.
Everyone has the right to their own lifestyle and i love it how you genuinely explain from your pov and that you don't force your opinion/pov in others faces or throats. I am minimalistic when it comes to friends and social life(for my personal reasons though!)

Haha I love that. I think I'm minimalistic when it comes to friends and social life as well. Never thought of it that way ^^

I tried this with my closet, and I found out my style after wondering for so long, and I'm proud about it. I just kept what I used :)

Take a shot everytime she says minimalism
I will not take responsibility for anyone's alcohol poisoning hehe.
Of water. See what happens.

It sounds as if she’s practicing a kind of monastic minimalism, or at least a cynical philosophy.
What channel is it?
The point about bullet lists was great, really gave me a perspective
I feel like they can be ! for example you can get tattos to replace jewellery and thats less stuff to own!
Thank you so much for making videos that help people understand minimalism! So often people only have one definition that forces all of the different minimalists into a box. Love your channel!

+Karen Traficante indeed. :)
i started following the mustards just recently, how cool!

Yay to freeing yourself through minimalism ❤️
Thanks so much for making this video, it's hard to find perspectives on being minimalist and tattooed!
I love how unapologetic you are in ALL your videos! Keep it up, Kat!
thanks for this video!:) I've been interested in minimalism for a while, but now I feel like I want to start decluttering and organizing my life more.:)
This is such a great topic, I've started my journey with minimalism this year and am modified and never thought about this (:
Minimalism- for me- is a lifestyle of discipline and introspection. There is nothing outside my body that will make me smarter, stronger, faster, stronger willed, more dedicated, and so on. For those things I look inward. And extend those forces outward.
Thanks for bringing this topic on your channel!
These kind of videos are so relaxing and informative, i love them
I love this video!! It is so interesting to hear your though about minimalism and tattoos. Thank you for making this.
Another great channel about minimalism and lifestyle is Break The Twitch! That channel has a similar healthy outlook on making minimalism work for you to improve your life.
first video on your channel, loved it . thank you
Define exactly what your terminology means to you, then state your opinion. Other people's definitions are not relevant. Respect.
Have you ever considered doing a podcast? It's a very different medium but I would definitely listen to your thoughts or discussions with others in a longer format as well^^

I don't think tattoos can be minimalist but they can for sure be simple
Then I am interested in hearing your personal definition of minimalism :)
An interesting dichotomy. Simple, but not minimalist.
I bet she won't pin this comment
No probably not
