I’ve heard to crunch up a piece of paper towel and stuff behind each piece of ceramic to get them better fixed into position. They’ll burn off later. Just a thought. Great video by the way
Nice video!
2 things, or more a question and a tip.
1. Aren’t you afraid that your KJ will crack with long high heat and cold weather?
2.To get your grates in new condition, use steel wool, some green soap and hot water. With little effort they start to bling again like new. I find this way easier than brushing it heavily.
Hi Martin, I was a bit cautious of getting it too hot too quickly so I slowly increased the temp and I don't think it maxed out at any point.
Cheers for the tip on the grates... I rarely clean them that much but should probably do it every now and again
Greetings from Wyoming! Love the channel. Subscribed.
Great video, I had no idea you could burn most of the mess away. I'll be scrubbing a lot less in the future. Thanks James
Cheers Mark. Yes fire will kill most things haha much easier than elbow grease 😉
Keep up the good work, looking forward to your videos in 2021 👍
Thanks Paul 👊 can't wait to get stuck in... So much planned to pack into this year
Awesome video bro thank you for posting looks awesome again 😀
Great video - will get onto mine over the weekend! You mentioned tightening the hinge, mine keeps slipping, will get that sorted at the same time! Thanks for the advice
When I first got mine the hinge needed to be adjusted more regularly but it seems to have settled now and I rarely need to adjust it
Keep us posted on how you like it without the ash diverter. I've seen it suggested but haven't jumped on board yet. Maybe next clean-out, which is long overdue.
I will do mate, hoping it might help airflow too until I get the ash basket for it
@@Barbechoo I got a knock-off Kick Ash basket for about $40 less on Amazon and it treated me well this season. The only thing missing is the divider that I believe the Kick Ash comes with.
Nice one, I'll look them up and see if it's an option
Did you end up putting it back in
that ash catcher thing is a pain. i took mine out after the the first time i cleaned it. you have to take all of the ceramics out to clean underneath it, i just use the removable ash tray. i clean it all out with a small broom/shop vac
You considered an ash basket, James. Makes clean out so much easier
I have actually, think it will be the next purchase. Been holding off as I'm not sure if I want to pull the trigger on the classic 3, but I think I'll get the asked anyways
I have a small shitty shop vac for my kamado. i use it after i dump the ash, to suck out anything left.
i bought the kamado joe ash basket also, it helps to keep ash building up like that. and i dont use that metal ash catcher (also because of James at SmokingDadBBQ), because all of that ash and burnt bits get under it anyway, and i have to take all the ceramics out to clean it. so with out it, i can shove my vacuum in there and clean out most of the ash. i still take out the ceramics to fully vac it out like once a month or so.
I used to power hose my old gas BBQ, this looks a lot easier!
You should get a Weber summit you would love it
I've cooked on them before... They are more responsive than the KJ but I love how even the ceramic cooks when it's properly heated. Who knows... Maybe one day we'll have a kamado off on the channel haha
Well done, agree with you my pits are for cooking not display. I clean them for functionality not beauty 🤭
Interesting you keep your ash grate. I was told before it’s too restrictive. I might put it back in.
If you have the ash basket insert then you could certainly keep the grate out but I think the charcoal falling down would restrict airflow more than the grate would. I've honestly never tried it without so not sure what the difference would be
@@Barbechoo yes I’ve noticed larger reminants than just ash since I’ve been doing it
Have you used the slow roller and if so how would best suggest to clean it?
Hey how do you clean the ski roller?
This video was on the Classic II which didn't have the sloRoller. I've just got my Classic III so haven't really got the sloRoller super dirty yet. I'm trying to use a drip pan as much as possible to stop any major build up. After that I'm alternating which side if the lid is facing down so the fire will help burn off any chunky bits
Holy Shit...can't understand the UK English at all...my language is so easy to understand not like UK English 😳 hell with their accent 😳
