After your clean burn, you're going to want to replace the gasket - but don't worry it's easy. Watch Big Green Egg Gasket Replacement - The Easy Way ruclips.net/video/wbqt3cbsEf4/видео.html
Some nice clean ceramics always make me happy. Nice work Al
Thanks, James. It's funny the little things that make us guys happy, right?
Hi bud, I was gonna ask how often you should do this but it’s explained at the end of the video. Nice! I’m doing this on Monday to my large egg. I enjoy your videos, keep them coming and stay safe.
Hi Quentin. Enjoy your new, clean Egg on Tuesday! Don't forget to get a gasket kit before you start so you can change the gasket before you want to cook on it. Remember it needs to sit for 24 hours for the gasket glue to cure. Let me know if you need a link to my video on how to change the gasket.
I really appreciate you watching, man. Happy grilling!
Definitely need to do a clean burn and gasket replacement. My plate setter looks like yours did so I’m encouraged I can clean it up.
Hi Warren! I do this probably 3 times a year on each of my eggs, but they see action 4-5 times/week. It really is magical when you open it up and brush it off the next day! Good luck and let me know how it goes.
Excellent tutorial, my husband and I enjoyed watching it
Thanks so much Suzy! If you two try this, make sure you are ready to replace the gasket too (link in the description!). Really appreciate you watching!
Clean burn worked great. BUT you should be warned that this kind of high heat can (and did) crack the ceramic ring or ceramic pit. Anyone out there had it crack the egg itself?
Great tips and amazing white clean heat deflector.
Thanks, Scott! Until I tried it, I had a hard time believing it would get this clean! And congrats on hitting 1,000 subscribers!
@@BehindTheFoodTV Pretty cool process and thank you!
One of these day I need to get me one of those grills and torch my way .... amazing video Al !! Just love your RUclips channel!!
You should! It's my favorite grill - and my favorite way to light it! Thanks for always watching Mr. Alas!
I would suggest also pulling the inside ceramics out and clean the ash buildup that falls through the holes over time.
That's an excellent idea, Bob! Thanks for taking the time to contribute! -Al
Must have one of those torches. Great video. Please share your you bought it.
Hey bschak thanks for watching! I love my flamethrowers! You can get one at a discount by using coupon code EMV10 at geni.us/GrillBlazer?track=YTEp43 when you check out. Also, I actually did a video review of the 2 torches too if you want to watch it - ruclips.net/video/g-VVeDIosVs/видео.html
Bruh... I am going to be doing this on my BGE soon. I have done a self clean burn but I guess I haven't gotten it hot enough for a long enough time because it didn't turn out THAT clean. Damn! BTW I am going to subscribe and check in on your videos from time to time.
Wow thanks man! I’m a huge fan of yours - so honored to have you here!
i cracked my base , i don't know that the clean burn did it how ever i didnt notice the crack till i vacuumed the base out, nothing else cracked so im thinking it cracked for another reason idk
Hi Greg. I’d be really surprised if a cook did that. The good news is that it’s covered under your warranty!
Would be better to remove gasket PRE hard burn to make clean up of adhesive easyer??? Asking And yes i know with out gasket you can not slam lid
Hey Dog! Actually, the gasket is more than just padding - it provides the airtight seal the BGE needs to concentrate the heat, so I wouldn't take it off first. Don't worry though - the adhesive isn't going to be any harder to get off after the clean burn - that glue has set over many cooks on your Egg, but a $5 can of acetone and it comes right off!
Lol just tried this today on my xl egg and the egg is sealed shut. There's a crack in the ash vent leaking black liquid. I killed my egg lol. I found another video that shows how to do a controlled clean burn for an hour at 600 degrees, wish I'd seen that one first.
Hey Matthew - I'm so sorry this happened to you. I've done this probably 30 or 40 times on the eggs that I've owned and never had a problem (or heard of anyone else having a problem that didn't already have a crack). I've definitely not heard of it sticking shut. Did you get it open? Feel free to DM me on IG or Facebook and I'll try to help you through it the best I can.
I got a kamado up to 600º and it did a very good job. the was a little bit of a black ash coat, but the grease and neavy residue from smoking, beer can chicken etc. were history. Somebody has to convince me that I want my BGE to be so perfectly white that I want to jack it up to 1000º. The thermometer goes up to 750º so that kind of heat gives me the creeps.
Hi James. These grills do great at higher temps - but you do have to take that factory thermometer out before you do it. The benefit of getting it up over 750° is that any impurities that have managed to seep into the ceramic get annihilated. But if you're happy with the results you get at 600° then keep doing it that way! Thanks for watching - Al
Thankyou for the video
You're welcome! Let me know how your clean burn goes! -Al
Buddy of mine did this on his Egg and it cracked the porcelain fire ring. Have others had this happen? His Egg and Plate Setter is clean but now he has to replace the ring.
Hey Rusty. I would bet that he already had a small crack in it that was just exasperated by the heat. I have 2 eggs and I do clean burns and replace gaskets 2-3 times a year. Never had a crack.
I bought the new reggulator vent cap and it does not fit like one in video . I have extra large was sold right size . It does not go down around chimney all the way ? Suggestions ?
Dumb question - did you take off the old gasket from the lid before putting the new reggulator and gasket on?
Hello AL,
Just a quick one I was trying to replace my gasket on Lgbe and was using something like acetone but a substitute alcohol smells like fuel,
to remove remnants of gasket and this poured a bit in the egg inner walls and it’s smelling bad like petrol , how do I get rid off the chemical smell ,
Do I do a deep clean thanks
I just picked up a BGE from Craigslist to see if I like it. The seller told me ... and I can see it ... that they JUST replaced the gasket. I'd like to do a clean burn but not waste a perfectly good gasket. If I put foil around the gasket, would this prevent it from disintegrating?
Hi Rich. Congrats on your new BGE! I have no idea if foil will stop it from taking heat damage, but I don't think it would be enough insulation. I think you might need to buy a fresh one. Sorry!
I have done clean burn twice still not clean is there another way to clean the egg ?
Hi Ronnie. DM me on Facebook or IG and I will try to brainstorm with you. -Al
I use a large pizza stone instead of the place setter will it clean up the same way?
Honestly Cameron I have never tried it with a pizza stone but I would imagine it would work if it's a ceramic stone. James from Smoking Dad BBQ uses a stone all the time and also does clean burns - he's probably the best one to ask. Tell him Al sent you!
This is the least fun part of the BBQ I guess (still fun though).
Have you ever tried one of those steam cleaners?
I don’t know - setting a big green egg up to reach these temps - especially lighting it with a flamethrower - not a bad way to spend a few hours! I have not steam cleaned. Have you?
Saturday’s activity!
That's right - gotta get that egg clean for your big Thanksgiving Dinner! Don't forget you'll need to replace the gasket on Sunday and can't cook on it for 24 hours - so don't stall!
Dont put stainless steel in high heat it promotes rust.
Hi Noah. You can feel free to leave the grate out if you choose. Thanks for watching! -Al
Did you just let the Cole’s burn out? Or was their e certain amount of hours you left it burning?
Great question Sergio. You let them burn all the way - you will end up with nothing but a bit of ash. -Al
@@BehindTheFoodTV Thank you for the quick response
@@BehindTheFoodTV great videos by the way, very informative
Wow thanks Sergio!

Were can I find the pan you have for ash?

I don’t think I ever have done a high heat burn because it can ruin the gasket and it can crack the firebox. I look at the creosote as a badge of honor. I just use a nylon brush and wipe off the loose particles from time to time.
You be you Noah! BTW you should be replacing your gasket periodically anyway.
@@BehindTheFoodTV Yeah your right he should be changing it periodically but not how you change yours at 3x a year. Damn you are just throwing money away. At least once a year.
I was getting readings of about 860F when I did mine for anyone wondering how hot they do get
I'm curious what you used to get those readings? Hopefully you didn't leave the dome thermometer in.........
@@BehindTheFoodTV no sir. Infrared thermometer gun aimed at a bunch of random points inside the egg through the top of the dome
I will never do this to my egg
Mkay. Thanks for watching anyway!
