I'll watch it, but it saddens me that Anna Sawai, most likely won't be a part of it. Breaks my heart. Maybe flashbacks?
I was thinking the same thing. I honestly don't think I will enjoy it as much without her. It's always nice to have someone nice to look at. Call me shallow, but that's the truth. I had no interest in the show at all, until I saw that she was in it, and then I was hearing how crazy good it is, that I just had to check it out, but I didn't stsrt watching it until about when episode 7-8 came out.
How do we know she’s dead? How did the “banjin” get the cross back in the future?? Just saying. After the end of season 1, I will need solid proof before assuming anything lol
@@momotaro2488 Wishful thinking and I don't think Shogun is that kind of show. However it has to become that type of show to bring Anna back, I'm okay with that.
@@momotaro2488It’s not a comic book. She is dead and buried. Anjin threw the cross into the lake. That future is never coming true. It’s going to be the toughest part of these upcoming seasons to replace her, Yabushige, Hiromatsu and everyone else. That is what they are going to have to do though.
HBO has no strong contender for drama category. This is FX's best shot to get their first Outstanding Drama award.
Personally, I see this as a good thing...as much as I loved the original iteration of Shogun, the finale of THAT felt so ambiguous and left me wanting more.
I'm so glad the reboot is giving us more, to be honest. I wonder if John will ever go back to England or if he'll spend the rest of his life in Japan
Do you think in season 2 we will actually see the battle in the first episode?
Even with a shit tonne of background performers and the best CG VFX, the cost of staging The Battle of Sekigahara in the first ep, would be astronomical. Historical records state some 166,000 warriors clashed on that valley's floor. The rendering time alone would balloon the budget to a record level for a single episode of TV. The budget and time involved for Battle of the Bastards episode on GoT, would pale by comparison... I've a strong feeling the writers will deal with chasing down Lord Ishido and his followers and bringing them to their final fate as well as the aftermath / political shift (and how Toranaga accomplished it), following the the conflict. Tokugawa Ieyasu, (Toranaga's real life counterpart) was single minded in his pursuit of ending 200 years of the Sendoku Jidai -- civil wars-- and establishing a lasting, prosperous peace in Japan beginning with moving the centre of power out of Osaka and into Edo... He wasn't made Shogun by the Emperor until several years after Sekigahara.
If Shogun did well, which it did, it’s obviously going to get another season and expand the series.
Sure, it’s sad that it’s no longer a miniseries and won’t win Best Miniseries. Not to mention that the series finished the entire book.
But hey, the creators of Shogun have tons of new ideas to expand.
Besides, James Cavall and Toshiro Mifune won’t mind the expansion of the show. In fact, they would be proud that younger and older people are watching Shogun.
I feel like Shogun had so much to say about violence, death, suicide. To continue I'm scared might slip into glorification and just emotion porn. Fingers crossed they nail something 🤞🏼
Disagree with you John. It's not because you can do more that you should do more.
Well that would be a waste of potential...
I never liked the ending of either the book or the series. It’s unfinished. I’m excited for this, even though a certain cast member won’t be there who IMO stole the series
More Fuji-San
That's Fuji-sama.
She's straight forward, brave, and cute.
The novel, and the series ends with a quick epilog which could be dramatized in long form. The fictional characters are loosely based on actual historical figures. Who can still be the templates for the characters in this series. Or the series could veer from history further in a whole new "What If" sort of fictional history. Either way. I'm watching it.
I enjoyed the first season but..... because my favorite two characters Mariko and Fuji aren't going to be in either of those seasons, I'll pass. They should've left it alone, but as always, Hollywood never learns when to quit while they're ahead.
What happened to Erin Cummings on the show. I have not seen her in ages. Can someone explain what happened?
I think John said that she moved to New York
Expect a lot of temporary emotional damage and post traumatic tense scenes in the future 😂
It's should be a spin off ..
You don’t know that because you have no idea what they have planned for seasons, two and three
I like how people say the book doesn’t go that far so don’t make another show it doesn’t need it. No TV show a movie needs to be made. could’ve said you already had one godfather movie there’s no need to make another. If the second season is bad, then you still watch the first one
also, & i seldom notice these things about guys, the dude who played john is so good-looking... just sayin
The ending was perfect. Making for seasons for the hell of it… watch the quality go down 🤦🏼♂️
Why would you assume it would be bad?
@@Neill1986 Shogun is based off amazing source material… now they just make it up
@@JezzaBondiBeach just like godfather 2 then. Got it
@@JezzaBondiBeach I’ve read the book and totally agree but I won’t assume it’s bad seeing as how it’s the original team. Give a chance
@@Phoenix-ti6tx cherry picking doesn’t prove a point
Here's the thing - I'm fine with another season, the ending as it was down felt rushed and unsatisfying (I get that's where/how the book ends but just going 'here's all the things that are going to happen' in the last 10 minutes wasn't great) and I don't mind that Mariko won't be there because she was only a part and her story is done. And yes - we do have history to go off of for some events and room to play with for others. But jumping right to 'yeah make us another 2 seasons' - that is where I start to get concerned that we've gone from 'something that was at least self enough contained to be fine as one season' to 'we over bloat a story in ways we don't need to'. Like - I'd rather it actually in one sense operate under the idea that it's still a mini-series/limited series and that while it continues the story is it's own arc/contained story. If we get a season 2 - it's a complete story that it's great if they do a season 3, but not needed, or that they then do a 3 and doesn't need a 4. I mean - X-men 97 was mentioned (something that did a lot of things I did not expect from especially a Disney animated show in this day and age) which while it's pretty obvious somewhere they knew they were getting a second season - but generally all the plotlines of the season were wrapped up by the end it just happens they set the stage for a season 2. Where as anymore it seems like a lot of things if they know they have more than one season, they seem to over stretch stories sometimes even between seasons and end up writing in things that pad the run time to make that many episodes.
I’m disappointed. Even if the new seasons are good, it will always feel cheap. The show finished beautifully, there is no reason to make new seasons.
We never saw Mariko's body right? Just aftermath Ashes and stuff?
I don't care if it's dumb. Bring back Anna Sawai. I know it might be "weak" writing to say that Toranaga faked her death to win the war, but I don't mind taking that hit in writing for the character to be back. It would be a good sub plot line once Blackthorne finds out she's alive and would've let everyone believe she died, and he'd feel personally betrayed by the trickery. I think it fits Toranagas style, and that secret coming to light would cause trouble to the country so plotlines write itself if they do it. But yeah it would be a huge retcon. That I hope they do but fear they won't 🙁
we saw her body. Blackthorn literally held her in his hands and prayed to god that she be accepted. She is done.
this was her end according to history
It’s a whatever move, the show was whatever, but in an enjoyable way, so more of it is fine.
No…it was perfect… they are gonna fuck it up.
Toranaga being Tokugawa, there are many things that can be done
@@DIDI.TITI777 k
Find a way to bring back Mariko Sama, I don't care if it doesn't make sense!
My problem is that they killed off some good characters.
We never saw the funeral! Surley Toranaga is capable of pulling some foxy maneuvers!
Okay, so they're going completely off script and doing their own story. Why the hell wouldn't they just do the rest of the Asian Saga instead? I cannot see this ending well, no matter how much I liked what they did with the show thus far.
Instead of dong an epic take on the epic Asian Saga, they will just ram Shogun into the ground, and leave the audience with a bad taste in their mouths.
Cool story bro
What are you talking about? The show is amazing, I just finished it. They obviously have the best writers out of any show.
@@beanburritozz3044 Look at what can happen when TV writers leave behind great source material and think they can handle it themselves - I direct you towards Game of Thrones seasons 6-8.
The ending was unsatisfying
the show got pretty ridiculous at the end of the season. toronagas son slipping and his head exploded when he fell. ultra creepy woman dressed like a yellow jackets nest who never stops smiling. earthquake wipes army. honestly i was waiting for javiar bardem to poke his head around a corner and say lisan al gieb.
Shogun is great don’t get me wrong, but Invincible is easily the best show of the year. Just another case of animation not getting the recognition it deserves
4 episodes is the best of the year? Nah b, and invincible is one of my favorite shows atm
