Yes, a second season! Battle of Sekigahara, Battle of Osaka Castle, Ochiba and her son defeated, and the Shogun building Nijo Castle and Edo Castle as his centers of power. A lot of history yet to unfold.
If History is a guide, Tokugawa Ieyasu (the real life Toronaga) became a villain after he became Shogun. He expelled the missionaries. He banned christianity and persecuted christians like in episode 10. He and his descendants closed Japan to outsiders for 250 years.

I am for a 2nd season I think there is enough historical information about the characters to warrant a 2nd season even without the book for reference⚔️
Mariko was one of the most interesting characters on the show, without a character of her depth, I might start yawning. Fuji-sama's return and backstory could fill the loss of Mariko.
Well, I can see season 2 telling the story of events leading up to the Battle of Sekigahara. The miniseries left out many details from the novel. I would list them but people will call spoilers as those details weren’t told in the show. But there were more betrayals, prophecies, back deals, machinations from Toranaga that will set allies and enemies off balanced, other characters not introduced, etc.
@@TheGhost-7002 Well, if it’s already spoiled then here we go… - Kiyama betrays Ishido at the Battle. - Toranaga uses his guns and cannon against Zataki - the prophecy of Ishido dying g of old age - Kiku becomes Blackthorne’s wife/consort as a way to keep Omi off balanced
@@thenextfilm There are more in the novel that were omitted from the series. Many can be rewritten to fit the show version for season 2. Some were pointed out in season 1 as a passing comment but can be used. - Yabu told Toranaga all he wanted was Suraga Province. There’s more to that. - Toranaga’s oldest son & heir is married to Ochiba’s sister. Again, more was written about that dynamic. - Gyoko, Kiku’s mama-san, played a bigger part than shown in the show - flashback of the Taiko’s failed invasion of Korea, which would bring back Yabu, Hiromatsu, Mariko’s father.
What's left? The Battle of Sekigahara, of course, as others have noted. The character of Blackthorne got involved in trade until he died in Japan, so he will still likely be partly irrelevant, but he could stay with Fujiko san. A battle would be awesome. Apart from the Ishido character, there was another Leader who helped turn the battle in Toranaga/Tokogawa Iesu's favor. Then there's Omi and Kiku san. Sanada described the actor playing Omi as an excellent actor so some scope to expand out his role.
I lived in Japan back in the early 80s, knew nothing about the country before I lived there. I read all of Clavell's books after I came back to the US. Yes, absolutely do a second season and just follow the history. It's amazing in itself. Japan is one of the most unique and purest countries with long history of ceremony, respect and discipline. I'm retired now and moving back to Asia in a few months.
I understand that many other villain could be created similar to Kashigi Yabushige, but the problem is that they can't bring the actor Tadanobu Asano back, one of the best Japanese actor, he was awesome. Thanks God Fuji-sama is still alive, she can come back in the next season, that gives me a little comfort.
I do want to see a season 2. So many historical facts still around to base the show. Sekigahara battle and the first years following it, establishing the Tokugawa reign.
First, I just want to see Season 2, which Hiroyuki Sanada plays Toranaga. His acting has never let us down. Although some important characters have died, fortunately there are still John Blackthorn, Lady Ochiha, Ishido, Buntaro, Fuji-sama, Oumi, Kiku, Ogin, and Christian priests, so if they added new cast members and let them play the game from the Battle of Sekigahara to the Siege of Osaka Castle, they could show us a more spectacular drama. And since Blackthorne is supposed to marry a Japanese woman and have two children in real history, we can watch another love story as well.
I agree that there are still potential storylines to cover in Season 2. It might be tricky since they initially planned it to be a limited series. But, if they preserve the energy and dedication of Season 1, I think we can end up with a masterpiece.
More focus on the heir aging and Toronaga teaching him would be a good move. We didn't see the heir much and depending on how old they want the heir to be, that actor could be recast with an older child if needed. The original characters that died could make returns in flashbacks or as Toronaga interacted with them in scenes we did not see in season one. I don't see a problem with a second season if Sanada is given as much creative control and studio executives don't get too involved and micromanage everything. Sanada did a fantastic job adapting the book, so let him still hold most the creative control with any help as he sees fit, and there are ton of options for the show. There is still lots that can be hashed out as far as how the other lords splintered away from the original council of 5. It could be a series that could go for multiple years and could even wrap as an old Toronaga (similar to Blackthorn) on his deathbed recounting his story for the historical record (think Bilbo and Frodo) and the entire series could be the perspective of Toronaga recounting the tale to a scribe or author for history as he is elderly and dying.
I think that they should make a prequel of this series highlighting the time of rise of taiko I think this would help us to understand the developments of various important characters including torannaga marico etc Still if they believe that they have got no better story I think that instead of ruining this amazing series by stretching up the story like the one did with GOT They should adopt some other AMAZING STORY FROM ONE OF THE CLAVEL's NOVELS
Lady Mariko could come back, as the last episode never showed her burial. I think she could have survived the explosion and everyone thought she was dead and was lead to believe she was dead. Ochiba helped her leave Osaka castle in secret after the explosion and Lord Toranaga had her hiding in Edo so this didn’t spoil his plans. When the council decided there will be no more wars, Lady Mariko comes out of hiding. That’s my start to season 2. :)
It's gonna have its own big shoes to fill which is going to be difficult with two of the most iconic characters missing. Hopefully lady Fuji will change her mind about being the best nun ever and reconnect with blackthorn, as they had such a powerful farewell scene...
They could do a prequel and in that, we will have all of the characters we love from this season as well as knowing why we were at the point where we are.

Thanks for mentioning that. The story has been embellished to make it entertaining and not just brutal. And it is close enough to actual history to make it more interesting than a marvel comic book story.

As for this first season, look into the history of Japan to find the story line for the 2nd season. With Sanada-san as producer, I'm sure it will be a good fusion... after all Sekigahara Battle deservers to be showcased 🙂⚔
Tokugawa Ieyasu, I mean Toranaga Yoshii lived another 16 years and William Adams, I mean John Blackthorne another 20 after the events of Clavell’s novel. There’s plenty of history on which to draw.
Long as disney keeps there hands out of it and not try box ticking rubbish leave it to fx they did an outstanding job perhaps disney can learn from them
1. I knew it was gonna b a hit from the first trailer, when u saw Mariko wielding a Naginata. I can’t remember the last time I saw Hollywood make a project that involved that particular weapon. It meant the filmmakers did their homework. 2. It’s ok you have our blessing to change the channel name to YabushigeFanGirl 😂⚔️
It’s a book series and there are 6 books I’ve read them it only gets better I really hope that they continue the series I think ppl would be at awe with the amazing story that Mr.Clavell has written Edit:The books are Shogun, Tai-Pan, Gai-Jin, King Rat, Noble House & Whirlwind
Why are you talking like the six books are a connected series? Shogun is a stand alone novel. Tai pan is set over 200 years after Shogun and King Rat is set during WW2!
@@Carfilliotthe books are connected there are references to characters from other books thru out the series they are In the same universe like marvel movies the books even talk about John’s descendants and king rat is the 4th book years later in the universe use google
Although this and the 80's series was based off the book by James Clevell, it's also based on real history so they can easily adapt the series and follow what really happened the Battle of Sekigahara, and the final Winter Battle Of Osaka to name 2 battles, but Blackthorn I really don't know what they can do for him, and if they go that far they have to have Yukimura Sanada although with a different name of course. I do hope they introduce Toranaga/Tokugawa's Avengers Tadakatsu Honda, Naomasa Ii, Yasumasa Sakakibara & Tadatsugu Sakai, that is only on the Eastern side of Sekigahara there is many to be added to the West. It would also be nice to see Kiyomasa Kato & Masanori Fukushima who served under Hideyoshi and alongside Ishido/Ishida but actually hated him so would be nice how they do that.
Or there could be a trilogy with two prequels, telling the stories of the previous two unifiers, Oda Nobunaga, y Tomotomi Hideyoshi, the first leader killer by Mariko's father, and the second, the Taiko, who dies at the beginning of this first season. I think there is so much intrigue and potential material in all that happened before, and that could explain the rise of Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga), that I would be even more excited about prequels than secuels.
Yes I’m in favor of 2nd season…but girls death really ripped out the heart of the show. The last episode seemed empty without her. She and black Thorne relationship was a very key thing. They will need someone to fill a similar position with blackthorne.
I totally agree I just finished it and I love Mariko so beautiful and I could tell all John wanted to do was somehow leave with her and get away somewhere far from all the lies and corruption and death but she felt bound by loyalty and honor and he had mixed feelings because he wanted to leave knowing he didn't belong in Japan but at same time she made him feel like he could live there despite the fact that neither could really leave anyway because to much soldiers and needing permission to go anywhere but when they killed her off I was like damn she was my reason for watching I wanted them to be together but I know they had to follow the book 😔
I honestly feel like they could turn this into a dynasty warriors live action show with characters from shu ,wei, and wu and it won't be out of place i mean the shogun already reminded me of Lu bei but i definitely think it would be interesting to see where they go with the show cause every now and then but not always a writer makes a gem of a series or movie and this was exactly that a masterpiece like Twd
Although lots of pertinent details of the book were left out ot this ,the beauty ,absolute BEAUTY is via " flash backs " they can at least return to us our beloved ones. and re- imburse those " lost" sections of the story, as well as keep the Actors working. To whom we owe so much.
Disney probably didn’t think it would be so popular so they let the show runners do what they want. Now that it’s the best TV show in years, Disney better not meddle and F it up.
I do not know, The issue is that the first season which was a mini series had the book to follow so the writers and producers had something to work with, the later stuff is entirely new and given recent track records im not sure it will work. I will say im looking forward to this with a bit of caution.
A prequel would be great. Oda Nobunaga was a fascinating historical figure in the latter half of the 16th century and would allow many favorite characters to show their backstory’s.
Season 2 prequel. Unification of Japan and invasion of Korea. That way we can get Mariko and Yabu back. Season 3 can be more of a direct continuation. It would make sense to do a prequel in sone form, considering the frequent use of flashbacks in season 1. I think bringing the character of Yasuke(black samurai) to the screen, would be a great replacement for Blackthorne. He lived during the same period.
They have to...exceptional cast and film direction...great storyline...and the last episode was what they call a cliff hanger...who survives, who dies? This story hasn't yet run its course.
I wouldn't mind a season 2, especially since so much of the political intrigue with the church, and the black ship was left out. I know they mentioned Mariko's deal, but it was wrapped up too quickly. A second season would allow that plot to develop and allow more scenes with Rodriguez, who was criminally under shown.
From Clavell’s other books in the Asian Saga, we know a few details. We know that Blackthorne stays and has a family. We know that the Kashigi clan become shipping magnates. We know that Toranaga becomes Shogun. One more season could be possible and could be done well if they’re careful. But I would have looked at doing an adaptation of the next book in the Saga, Tai-Pan. That deals with the European traders in China and the opium trade and how Britain got Hong Kong. In the past , they made a bad movie on it but it needs hours to be done properly.
There is plenty of exciting content that can be developed for the second season. It would be interesting to witness a grand battle and learn about Tokugawa's strategies to gain support from other clans. Exploring Blackthorne's experiences during the war and the challenges he faced as a gaijin would also add depth to the storyline. With a wealth of source material available, a captivating and engaging narrative can be crafted for the upcoming season.
Very thought provoking post ❤ but your wrong that they never fully adapted the book. Toranaga has an older son who is married to lady ochiba's sister. We haven't seen her yet. And she and Toranaga's son are tested for their loyalty in the book. And there is also the question about lady Fuji who is Fujiko in the book. Although she was granted death in the book. In the 1980 adaptation with Richard Chamberlain, Toshiro Mifune, and Yoko Shimada she did not die. Plus in the book the courtesan Kiku was to marry Anjin-san. There are loose ends to tie. This latest adaptation I think was rushed like the 80s version.
I think the producer's can now follow the real history of Japan and what truely happened with Tokugawa iyeyasu and the battle at Sekigahara. I think 2nd season will be more action based. Either way i m very excited for this news!
I hope,..... I HOPE , they take their time to do it well. And not give in to the temptation to " spit out quickly " (for fame and profit sake.) I'ts the product that matters, they... need... to ...STAY HUNGRY!! And hold on to passion for dear life.
I first saw Senada in "The Last Samurai" and he was excellent. Could there be a second season? Sure. Blackthorne doesn't leave at the end of the novel, gets to have Kiku (score!) and the beat goes on. Because I loved the novel I have to say I loved the production values but was disappointed in the liberties the writers took. I feel they made changes almost for the sake of making changes in some parts.
If this is true, I wonder how long would we have to wait for the second season to be released. It took 5 years to make this season and it is the end of the book.
I think it is likely to take a LONG time. based on the creators' interviews, it seems like they are taking their time to come up with a new subject matter
They Caught Lightning in A Bottle. I think season 7 and then wrap it up with season 8 At least we will not be dissapointed like with GOT The acting is the very best the Director the very best Effects Battle scenes Royal court Drama. Shogun Got a redemption from the horrible 1970s version.

1. I knew it was gonna b a hit from the first trailer, when u saw Mariko wielding a Naginata. I can’t remember the last time I saw Hollywood make a project that involved that particular weapon. It meant the filmmakers did their homework.
2. It’s ok you have our blessing to change the channel name to YabushigeFanGirl 😂⚔️
hahahaha, why not? :)
Yes!!! On second season. ❤⚔
as long as mariko is dead i cant watch it again. so so sad
Bro some people what her back and say that some how she survive the blast, these are stupid. Mariko is dead Thats it. I can’t wait for season two
It’s a book series and there are 6 books I’ve read them it only gets better I really hope that they continue the series I think ppl would be at awe with the amazing story that Mr.Clavell has written
Edit:The books are Shogun, Tai-Pan, Gai-Jin, King Rat, Noble House & Whirlwind
I also think about starting the books since I ADORED Shogun. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@thenextfilmYou’re welcome I know you’re going to love the books prepare for an amazing ride
Great input. thank you for sharing
I don’t know if season 2 can be better without Mariko. She’s the best character in a show of extraordinary characters ❤
Or there could be a trilogy with two prequels, telling the stories of the previous two unifiers, Oda Nobunaga, y Tomotomi Hideyoshi, the first leader killer by Mariko's father, and the second, the Taiko, who dies at the beginning of this first season. I think there is so much intrigue and potential material in all that happened before, and that could explain the rise of Tokugawa Ieyasu (Toranaga), that I would be even more excited about prequels than secuels.
brilliant show ,more please
❤
100% YES. It is amazing that it was done with historical accuracy while maintaining a captivating story line
I need The origin story of Nobunaga more than the next season. Yocan named it Shokun 0
The second season of Shogun? Is that truly real news? If so, I am dying to watch and cannot wait for it!
Yes, it is true!
Oh, a prequel is an amazing idea
The actress that plays Fuji went into the room with FX and threatened to Seppaco herself if they didn’t do two more seasons.
omg really? i've never heard of it
Season 2 prequel.
More Shogun!
Yes! I can't get enough of this show! Best show going right now! 🗡
They have to...exceptional cast and film direction...great storyline...and the last episode was what they call a cliff hanger...who survives, who dies? This story hasn't yet run its course.
Big fan of Hiro ! He has to come back for S2….. hopefully Mariko will have a long lost twin & return in S2 🎌
Thank god! I was so hyped after s1 cause the story was finally catching up
I wouldn't mind a season 2, especially since so much of the political intrigue with the church, and the black ship was left out. I know they mentioned Mariko's deal, but it was wrapped up too quickly. A second season would allow that plot to develop and allow more scenes with Rodriguez, who was criminally under shown.
Rodriguez deserves A LOT more screen time for sure
As long as no Dragons flying around the edo sky.. do it!
I personally felt like Season 1's ending was anti-climactic so I'd love a couple more seasons.
One question remains how did Blackthorne survive the war?
⚔️👘🎎🏯⛩️🫖🍜🐲💯yes!!! Please, I loved Shogun. I want more!!!
Must be as long as ‘Game of Thrones’.
Season 2 will clearly lead to the Battle of Segikahara and Season 3 (also confirmed) to the siege of Osaka
🗡️ ⚔️ 🗡️
⚔️⚔️⚔️
This is one of the most beautifully made shows, and visually it is awsome.
It would have been amazing to watch it in theaters
With a wealth of source material available, a captivating and engaging narrative can be crafted for the upcoming season.
there is A LOT to cover
I was not disappointed by GOT. I loved the ending
well, this is a true unpopular opinion. i'm glad you enjoyed it
Release date?
This latest adaptation I think was rushed like the 80s version.
thank you for sharing!
There will not be a second season regardless of the unsubstantiated announcements flying around.
well, the news suggest otherwise
小早川 秀明、島 左近、世良田次郎三郎など、少し想像しても期待できるキャラクターがいる。俳優の窪塚洋介さんには出て欲しい。全体的に楽しみな要素ばかり。
🔥
I think the producer's can now follow the real history of Japan and what truely happened with Tokugawa iyeyasu and the battle at Sekigahara. I think 2nd season will be more action based. Either way i m very excited for this news!
I agree. I think it has the potential to be as good as Season 1 - if not better
he becomes shogun but later on seppukus himself
⚔
The story leading up to the events of shogun is way better than anything in this first season. They should do a prequel
Shogun is great but saying there is a ton of new shows in 2024 that are really good is either disingenuous or total insanity.
Yes Sanada Yukimura coming
I hope,..... I HOPE , they take their time to do it well. And not give in to the temptation to " spit out quickly " (for fame and profit sake.) I'ts the product that matters, they... need... to ...STAY HUNGRY!! And hold on to passion for dear life.
Same! It took years to make Season 1. I'm willing to wait years to welcome Season 2 as well. As long as it is good, I'll be a patient fan
The downside of this series is that we don't actually have any fights
we might get some in the upcoming seasons
I first saw Senada in "The Last Samurai" and he was excellent. Could there be a second season? Sure. Blackthorne doesn't leave at the end of the novel, gets to have Kiku (score!) and the beat goes on.
Because I loved the novel I have to say I loved the production values but was disappointed in the liberties the writers took. I feel they made changes almost for the sake of making changes in some parts.
I'm still yet to read the book. But these comments make me want to read it SO BAD
@@thenextfilm You'll enjoy it for sure.
If this is true, I wonder how long would we have to wait for the second season to be released. It took 5 years to make this season and it is the end of the book.
I think it is likely to take a LONG time. based on the creators' interviews, it seems like they are taking their time to come up with a new subject matter
⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔
outstanding show
I fell for this
It is true
@@thenextfilm evidence please
⚔️
*Lets just hope the sequel doesn't go WOKE as so many other sequels have done like Barbarians 2 and many others.*
I hope they can keep the quality as it is - if not better.
They Caught Lightning in A Bottle.
I think season 7 and then wrap it up with season 8 At least we will not be dissapointed like with GOT
The acting is the very best the Director the very best Effects Battle scenes Royal court Drama.
Shogun Got a redemption from the horrible 1970s version.
I heard the infamous 1970s version. A part of me wants to watch it really bad.
Amazing - you make a show that's not utter shite & it's a success. Disney is such an MBA pile of
Bring back Fuji-sama or I will not watch it
lmao
As long as they don't include DEI in the next season.
same
Well how did blackthorn get backed to Japanese?
good question
I think most people will want a season 2.
I hope so
After Mariko-sama's death, I wished I hadn't watched this series. I'm so sad am i the only one here that sad !
