Hi, i would suggest to modify this one to a contra rotating prop system it may improve the efficiency and stability....may be able to carry a dslr.... by the way whats the specs of this thing?? motors esc and batts??

idk if gimbal would work well since it would always keep the camera level, if it leans forward then it will be out of view since the gimbal will keep the camera level

Gimbals usually have a function called smooth follow or something like that that stabilizes the footage but doesn`t keep the camera level at all times.

Wow. I can’t believe the sound those props make. And while I love the fact that you guys made everything to scale, I would love to see how much better it could perform if it were designed to be that size.
You need 5 or 6 blades per motor. Your limitation is the sonic wash over the twin blades. If you increase that to 6 blades you will approach the physical limits of radial velocity (which is sonic speed). With that in mind, no matter what size bladders you use, the outer radial velocity is your limiting factor until a better blade design overcomes the sound barrier limitation. Effectively, supersonic blades creates frequency resonance in the trailing airflow which cause distortion of the propeller and hence increases drag (enemy of lift/thrust). I have an idea of blade design that could assist in overcoming the sluggishness but it does not yet have a patent...

with a bit of development we should be using these for the televised drone racing. way easier and fun to watch! imagine the noise of 10 of these flying around.
But far too expensive, I could probably build a whole quad for the cost of one motor.

While expensive is relative. It's expensive compared to personal race drones, but small race drones are harder for spectators to see so it may not draw enough crowd for advertisers to toss money at. To put it in perspective, a professional road cyclist's bike costs around $10k-15k, and each person usually has several for backups, and they can easily destroy it in a crash.
I'm not sure cyclist's ride micro bicycles though. Maybe Nascar compared to RC car racing is better analogy?

This IS AMAZING!!! I LOVE Drones! (You will have to add 4 legs to that quad, to prevent the ground from striking the propellers as the uav is taking off and landing by the way).

So when do we see Nascar or F1 replaced by this? I used to be really into drones and it was such a pain to watch the mini racing drones as a spectator. They are just so damn fast. I always imagined the drones being closer to your size or maybe 2x biggger, covered in sponsors, decals and some crazy looking hull. do you think in the next 10-20 years this will be what people race with. I imagine something like star wars pod racing...
I think something that size would be too expensive for the average racer.
Then it become a rich guys sport.
Stambo I mean so is nascar and f1. that's what I compared it to. it would be a sponsored national or world wide sport, with paid drivers. what's so wrong with that? it'd be much more exciting to watch these fly around the desert and crashing, than say watching the oval that is nascar on tv.
Actually I think some drone races have been testing 1000mm drones, since its a spectators sport you want the audience to be able to see them unlike mini quads that go around 250mm. The day will come that drone races become mainstream but it will take some time maybe in the next 5 years it should become mainstream but if it hasnt by then then I dont see much future for drone racing aside from being a hobby.
Darksnow the videos you see with them going theough neon stadiums and stuff looks awesome. i think it would translate so well to a larger scale
i think in the next 100-200 years we'll be using antigrav for pod racing, barring accidents

Remove the massive dummy GoPro and FPV cam, place another piece of fuselage on the bottom, add servo-actuated foam doors and foam walls to that extra fuselage, BOOM, racing mothership.

You should put some parachutes on that! You can get a bunch online which you open remotly.. Obviusly and they open in about 0.8 seconds... Yes that was very spesific.

This is the perfect size for drone racing, it is more spectaculair to watch and it doesn't go too fast for spectators and you can see it better at a distance

I know it sounds impossible, but can you please attempt making a receiver for an Xbox controller? I think that would be very cool and it would be a great challenge.
A Xbox controller has way to short throws to be able to fly sensibly. Better stick to a regular transmitter
E. Malloy I agree with Moraren. If you want something similar shape go with the turnigy evolution.
My friend and I were able to fly our plane using an xbox controller.
We used the arduino based Ardupilot APM 2.5 board and a 3DR radio from the laptop which doubled as our fpv screen.
It was real fun until we crashed it!

Have you tried using an Xbox controller for a flight SIM? You'll probably find, like Moraren said, the controller just won't work very well for flying.

Try a 450 size CP helicopter. Blade disk diameter is around 700mm...
Honestly they're not that scary. I have a healthy respect for mine, but I'm not afraid of it.

you guys do very exciting things. that's awesome. I was a model designer and i know few things about flying things. i'd like to help if you want me to. for example in this one you made a simple mistake and that is, for best maneuvering feature, you should balance the weight in all 3 axis

Why did it crash at the beginning?
I wonder if it was vibration that confused the flight controller. TJ mentioned having a lot of jello on the camera. If they didn't put the controller on O-rings too, it might have been too much for the sensors.
