I have been researching this system for over a year and your video is the best at explaining the header system that attaches to the timer. I didn’t know that you could buy it all put together. Thank you so much for this information.
By far the easiest tutorial on RUclips. People make it so complicated with their explanations. Just left homedepot with a better understanding and was confident with what I purchased. Thanks!!
Really great video! Thank you so much for taking the time to make it. As someone with zero experience setting up a drip system, it hits everything I need to do! Thank you.
I swear RUclips algo reads my mind. I was just thinking about this and how I should set up a splitter this spring in MN for my growing season. I'm so excited for spring!!!
Thank you so much for all your time and effort to put this together and the blog post. I have been wanting to do this for years and you just made it so easy for me! Just ordered everything from your links!
I love my drip system! It was a game changer as far as keeping my plants from stressing out in the height of the summer heat. Set that timer and all you have to do is make sure it's working like it should.
Your end piece on your drip tape may pop off with how you have it. Flip it around to where the narrow end is facing the tape and the wider end is down where the tape was cut (if that makes sense). Feed your drip tape through the end piece, push the end piece up out of the way, fold your drip tape about 3 or 4 times (small folds), then pull that end piece down over the folded drip tape. Hope this helps!
Fantastic video, I've been wanting to set up an irrigation system for a long time but have been intimidated by the process but this video was easy to follow so I'll give it a try. Thank you so much for sharing!
Thank you thank you thank you!!! Like so many other commenters, I had been intimidated & overwhelmed at trying to figure this out - your logical & thoughtful instructions are excellent & encouraging! I am going to buy the supplies & tackle it this week!🎉
Yeah, putting in a timed irrigation system just makes everything so much easier. Once you have your timed water and mulch setup, it makes having a garden so much more enjoyable. One thing to keep an eye on with your setup is if the end of the drip line is putting out less water than the beginning of the line. The way I do it is to make a full loop out of it, so that each drip line attaches to your main distribution line at both ends. You would use the same amount of drip line, but instead of having those clamps on the end, it would instead just be the loop and then the same line comes back on another row of crops, or on the backside of the same row of plants. That will even out the water distribution.
Peter I've seen your suggestion of looping it on other videos, but am confused on it not using more drip line, looks like they use twice as much being a circle of sorts. I think that would be good for use in our stock tanks for multi plants coverage. We plan on finely doing this in the spring but have been intimated by it all. Will this even out the consistency for a large garden?
Thank you, putting this project off as there are tons of other needy projects to get done on the home stead. Just wanted to be TOLD how to get er done.
DripIrrigation ist as you say "so easy" ! GameChanger in our Garden . In Germany we had almost 3 Month now rain ! You gain constant Irrigation with maybe 50% less Waterusage. Hokaido Pumpkin grow with Dripirrigation so much better , also the Wood Chips are amazing in Kombination , soil is so much better .
This is very informative ! Thank you so much. I hope it is as easy as you have made it to look because I am getting this done at my parents this summer LOL
Awesome video, so very clear to understand. Question the drip tape line with the tiny holes that water your plants, can you control where you only want the water to come out at on your plants around your garden trees, like can you plug up the tiny holes where their is not plant or tree so water is not being wasted, or do you just only add where you want the drip tape to be then you add the other line to connect that's not a drip line and so on, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and convey thanks alot.
The difference between drip tape and brown tubing is that drip tape can only go straight up and down cannot go around or bend vs brown tubing you can make go around a plant and in circles etc..
Hi. A very good tutorial. Will be trying to do this next year. Question. As I’m watching you attach the distribution hose to the filter/pressure system I don’t see a hose clamp or anything to keep it together (3:38). Can you clarify?
I just shared this video with my handyman. He is going to set it up for me. I assume this drip method works under fully grown bushes, just leave it on longer? I would like to put it around the entire perimeter of my yard. Did you puncture all the holes exactly where you wanted them?
I am in the process of updating garden and am wanting to install a drip irrigation system. One thing I am curious about. Currently I have a 50ft hose that I have been using to water my garden. Would it be possible to attach the assembly to a hose that is attached to the splitter with the valve? Rather than the distribution hose/assembly being directly attached to the house? I ask because my hose is already attached to the fence.
Thanks for this info. I would love to add this to my backyard. Where my faucet is at its all cement. How would I hide all the tubing. I know once I get to the grass I can hide it but where the cement is at is the hard part.
Great video. Just one question. How will you handle crop rotation. Different crops are spaced at different intervals so from year to year won't you have to move or adjust the lines? Of can you plug old holes to allow adjusting the spacing without replacing or moving lines?
The lines are pretty versatile and we haven’t had to change them for different crops so far. However, if we do want to make the watering more targeted for specific crops, we’ll probably just unhook the line for the row we want to change, and swap it out for a different one.
Light bulb moment here... To use AUTO, you have to run the program first 😁 The system will shut off afterwards, then it's set for whatever times or days you have set it to.
Have you ever had an issue with the rain bird timer not turning off when outside the scheduled time? My troubleshooting search brought me to your video, if our water is on, which it needs to be for when the timer starts, it’s just always on 🥴
O, I'm again motivated to try setting up a drip system. So, just to confirm, I searched and looks like a "hose bib" is the faucet that comes out of the house, is that right?
Can you bury the hose a little bit do you don’t see it? Or better to just cover with mulch? I live in Colo and it gets cold in the winter, do I need to pull it out first winter?
I am forced to redo all my irrigation because I used PVC tubing that has emitters spaced through out. When an emitter or more go bad your whole system is shot. The more repairs you make, hence more connectors, the more blow outs and wasted water! I am going back to one long 1/2 in black PVC and 1/4 inch spaghetti tubing with either flag or button ones that you can adjust for plant needs . I am in the low AZ desert where our temps can be 100 or more very early in the morning. I am using my system to water mostly shrubs . I can use the 1/4 in tubing or button emitters right into the 1/2 in tubing right where I need them. The flag and button emmiters can be opened and cleaned out. Can't be done with the tape or orange PVC. I find parts of the garden flooded and others not wet enough.
Anything but easy. Harder than heck to get the drip connectors into the distribution line, line collapses, they don’t “pop” in like other stuff I’ve worked with or the end that goes in breaks off. If you manage to get them in, 1/2 of them leak. Get your blowtorch or boiling water ready so when installing elbows, t’s and connections so you can warm the lines so they’ll slip in. The end clamp pieces for the drip line are junk, every 3rd one breaks. The only easy part so far was the faucet connection and the Amazon delivery.
i have the exact same system took me to much time to find the pieces it kinds of pricy but not a can enjoy my flowers without worrying about watering 😂
I’m sorry if this is a weird question but do you leave the hose bib ‘on’ 24/7 and let the time manage the flow of water? Does that impact the internal water pipes at all? If the hose bib is on and the timer keep the water from flowing, does that impact your water bill?
Question??? Love the step by step instructions, but struggling with connecting black distribution hose to connector kit.. does not seem to pop on like it does in your video the end piece of that connector kit is just too big. What am i missing?
@@OakAbode I'm in Texas and have a dark green hose in my back yard. Before I change my chicken bulk water supply to the 5 gallon bucket with the little cups. The mosquitoe larva were thick in their water before they drank ¾ of the water. I would turn the water on and flood bulk water'er and the water was hot enough to kill the mosquitoes instantly! A watering system like this would do best at 10 or 11 during the night!
That’s kind, thanks! I’ll still hop on occasionally. I’m just more interested in putting out instructional material than making it about “me”, if that makes sense. ☺️

much less money to buy from dripdepot … your video is informative but you should really have a pressure regulator; it’s probably not a problem for you because of the length of your mainline tubing/GPM/&distance to your garden.

I would be interested in a winterizing video. There are not many northern gardeners doing drip irrigation. Thank you. 🎉
So glad to know that you needed a long bit of tubing for your yard. Literally answered my question as it popped into my head. ty.

what things do you do in order to ensure things are working properly? I am not in this game yet but I can imagine how much time this saves!
How do you know how much your plants need?

Out of curiosity are you keeping this out durning winter after you blow out the lines with a compressor?
is there enough pressure in this system to carry water up a slight incline, say to a raised bed that is up a little higher than others in the yard?
Thanks for this info. I would love to add this to my backyard. Where my faucet is at its all cement. How would I hide all the tubing. I know once I get to the grass I can hide it but where the cement is at is the hard part.
If I’m using a 4 outlet timer do I need to use 4 faucet connection kits attached to the 4 outlets on the timer?
Its ok to leave the outside spigot on all the time? Makes me nervous but I need drip so badly!

Can you put drip holes directly into the distribution tube?
How long does the battery last in the timer?
Have you ever had an issue with the rain bird timer not turning off when outside the scheduled time? My troubleshooting search brought me to your video, if our water is on, which it needs to be for when the timer starts, it’s just always on 🥴
when using a drip are you required to use a pressure regulator?
Do you set it for watering once a day only
Thankyou for the detailed video.
O, I'm again motivated to try setting up a drip system. So, just to confirm, I searched and looks like a "hose bib" is the faucet that comes out of the house, is that right?
Yes. A plumber would call it a hose bib. Most of us know it as a faucet.
So you just have one connector from distribution tubing to the drip tape? What about other rows? Are you using connectors between the drip tape?
Thank you!!love your explanation.
Thank you for a great video!
is the timer battery operated?
Thanks !!
Love it! What weeding tool do you like?
How long does the batteries last you?
Thank you
Do you have any to replace the drip tape every year? I’m confused based on some posts online.
Great video! How long do you leave the drip on each day?
I was wondering the same thing!
Me too
My vegetable garden is on a slope with the water source half way down the slope. Do I need to consider that incline when I set up my drip system?
Thx.
Do you prefer this or a wicking/self watering raised bed??
Can you bury the hose a little bit do you don’t see it? Or better to just cover with mulch? I live in Colo and it gets cold in the winter, do I need to pull it out first winter?
Yes you can bury it. It’s not a problem
Thank you, thank you thank you
Question. So do you pull all of this up at the end of the season when you till? Or do you not till? (aside from the run out to the garden that is)
No till is the way to go. Lasagna gardening style 😎
Please provide a video of how you use the weed hoe and a link to purchase

Where I can get this drip system kit

We leave the water on 24/7. The timer manages the flow.
Anyone else having the problem where the hole puncher doesn’t make a big enough hole to put the tape swivel in?
Question???
Love the step by step instructions, but struggling with connecting black distribution hose to connector kit..
does not seem to pop on like it does in your video the end piece of that connector kit is just too big. What am i missing?
why did you decide to not go underground?
ELI5 in video form. 😂
Damn what's yalls water pressure
Instead off having tube down both sides, off setting every second row of holes so you reduce poosibility of hydrophobic soils occurring is useful
With a black hose you will be putting boiling hot water on your plants when your timer comes on.
Haha, nah. 2:30 👍
That is why she waters at 4am when hoses are COOL. Listen to the video!
