Excellent video. I still hear some fans dispute viciously and religiously that Godzilla wasn't at all inspired by Kong or the Rhedosaurus... yet it's the truth. It's history. It's fact. And what's the harm? It's great film history to see how one great story leads to the creation of another that can be just as great, if not more.
Honestly, people try so hard to insist their favorite media is "original" and the "first of its kind" and "not at all related to that Thing That Came First, no really you guys" While remaining completely oblivious to the fact that art, by its very nature, is derivative. All movies, all series, all books, all video games, were based on, or inspired by something else. And that's ok
Star Wars was derivative of the King Arthur legends, the Holy Bible, World War 2, and many other sources that continue to teach lessons across the world to this very day regardless of being fictional or genuine.

I actually just watched the first movie for the first time. Damn it was surprisingly powerful when Serizawa destroys his own Oxygen Destroyer research after all of that work. The actor totally nails the fact that Serizawa is horrified of the power he has because he understands he created something possibly even deadlier than any nuclear weapon. It’d be even worse if it was used by anyone else O_o
I just TRULY love the engineering behind the suit the miniatures and the whole technique of the model makers and the cameramen. TRULY AN ORIGINAL, ICONIC beast.
I heard this from a documentary about the guy who played godzilla but they said that rubber was a scaresity in Japan after the war so it would be too expensive for them to construct a suit made of rubber. They opted to use a mix of a type of soft concrete to save costs and a bit of rubber which helped to emulate rough and cracked skin. This was what made the suit so heavy and with the lighting focused on the suit it heated up like concrete does which is why it was so unbearably hot.
Based on that mock up from the original story, his design would've been closer to Gorgo. Also given he had a manga adaptation and a serialized novel prior to film's release, that would make him like Mothra and King Kong as giant movie monsters who actually have had a start with literature first. (Wasn't Rodan once turned into a book before a film?) Speaking of Kong, his name "Gojira" seems to come from the original story where he had (according to one article) a gorilla like interest towards women. Given how the Odo Islanders have been implied in the film they sacrificed their women to him, there's a definite influence from Kong. Imagine a Godzilla remake similar to Peter Jackson's King Kong in which Odo Island was once a stronghold for a ancient civilization and Gojira as their god
It's actually interesting since ever since this movie I don't think odo island ever got mentioned or appeared anywhere else in the series unless I'm wrong on that
@@discmanthecdlord Technically it gets briefly mentioned in Shin Godzilla. It's also brought up in the 1st book tie in for the Netflix anime trilogy titled "Monster Apocalypse".
