Most people do not need 150 grams of protein, even if you are trying to gain muscle. If you are trying to gain muscle, estimate your ideal body weight, and multiply that number by 0.8. That’s how many grams of protein you should aim getting. Any more than that is not necessary. However, there are advantages to a high protein diet. For example, if you are trying to lose weight, eating meals that are high in protein is a good strategy because protein is extremely filling, so you don’t over eat.
Personal experience......Eating heavy amounts of egg whites makes my otherwise clear face break out with painful deep acne. It took a kinesiologist to help me figure out what was causing the problem. Three days off egg whites and the pain under the skin diminished and my breakouts eventually healed. I can only eat egg whites in moderation.
I believe it would be helpful, especially for people just starting out, to see what 150 grams of protein looks like. That amount of protein only contains 600 calories so there is plenty of room for other whole foods on the plate. Thanks for the video
I’m looking for 200g of protein a day. Heavy on the fat and if possible zero carb. Carnivore for therapeutic nutrient Ketosis. Dad is 60 looking to fight type 2 diabetes. Son is 24 looking to fight autism and epilepsy. 2:1 fat to protein ideas are what we need.
@Phil Morgan, With those goals you would be wise to find a physician that specifically works with TRUE ketosis! This usually entails hospital stay where [you] can be consistently monitored. This is excellent for epilepsy__not sure about autism. In any case, don't mess around with this__you can get gravely ill or die if not done correctly! For diabetes, look into raw foods diet, "30 Days Raw". Again, under a physician's monitoring you can 'reboot' your body to function properly__however, you must remember: if you go back to old habits you will undo all your hard work! Hope this has been helpful. Love, Light, and Blessings on Your Healing Journey. 🙏😇✨💫🌱🌿🌻🐝🌳🌎💖🙌😺
I eat a protein shake and 2 hard boiled eggs for breakfast. Protein bar for mid morning snack. Lunch is two cans of tuna with jalapeño flakes tajin with cumin and coriander for flavor. Protein shake for afternoon snack. Dinner is a nice salad with grilled chicken and hard boiled eggs (2).
I'm so glad I saw this. I'm working on my fit goals and habits for 2023 and I ate 4 eggs this morning and I wasn't hungry until 7pm and now I know why lol.. I need to be more aware of stuff like that! Thanks!
If you eat organic grass fed beef, the fat is actually very good for you. High in beta-carotene and good for your skin and hair. When ground beef is too lean, it can get dry very quickly and it’s not as tasty. But the key is getting organic grass fed beef.it’s superior to other forms of beef.
I believe I have been deficient in protein most of my life. At the moment I'm aiming for 100g and I will increase it gradually because it takes time for my body to get used to it. Grocery shopping is quite expensive. I eat a lot of beef burgers, chicken and salmon. I am also incorporating eggs, protein powder and tinned tuna, thankfully these are cheaper than the fresh meat so it helps my budget.
About a week ago, i finally realized I had been starving myself for over 20 years. Most americans eat between 30 to 50gm of protein if they do, and it should be over 100 gm. I'm up to 100 at the moment working to 130 to one day reach 150g
Eating more (and mostly) protein & fats instead of carbs will naturally make you eat less once you’re adapted to it… protein is extremely filling. Carbs make you hungrier, literally. They cause insulin to spike more than anything else and it keeps you addicted to them.
Thanks so much for the great ideas for getting in more protein! Some days it seems really tough to get it all in, so these are very helpful for getting me out of the protein rut. Thanks, ladies!
I can't do more than 20g protein in a meal, it just knocks me out. Can't do egg whites. Can do goat yogurt, turkey, some tuna, ! But I'd have to eat more often to make that target.
I always hear Greek yogurt recommended but it doesn’t seem to have that much protein in it unless you get the protein yogurt. My brand has just 7g in 3/4 cup (170 calories ) versus cottage cheese same amt (3/4 cup) has 19.5g protein (135 calories). Do you suggest a brand that has higher protein than what I mentioned?
If you’re looking for a higher-protein option, brands like Fage or Chobani Plain Greek Yogurt usually have around 15-20g of protein per serving with fewer calories. Cottage cheese is definitely a protein powerhouse, though, so it’s a great option too. It all depends on what you enjoy and what fits your goals!
Thanks for sharing this information. When my Coach first told me that I needed to eat more protein, I was very happy to know that it was okay to eat a large quantity of Protein.😃
I think buying whole meats like an entire turkey or roast and cutting that and adding it to your lunch wraps ect. Eating processed meats you add too much salt and it is more expensive.
I looked like a melted candle for way too long! I had no idea that protein is what was missing from my diet! Thanks to you both I know better now! #jmsafam
Omg, I'm not overweight, but I would describe my body fat distribution as "melted candle" as well! Those tight, knit dresses look comical on me now. Glad you found something that works!
I look at cost, ease and efficiency so I use the approach of having a base of 5 foods that are easy to do and easy to get in bulk and require minimal preparation. I am not averse to preparation but it's really helpful to have stuff available when you don't feel like a lot of preparation, cooking and cleanup time. So Costco canned chicken, Costco egg whites, SFH Pure Whey, Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt, and nonfat cottage cheese. With these as a base, it's a lot easier to make other stuff like fish, turkey and beef (though I usually avoid beef), and foods that are under 50% protein.
12:37pm CST how do I incorporate the high Protein snacks but stay away from all of the high sodium levels that are in things like the Turkey Jery, string cheese, etc?
Thanks for the Lavosh Wrap suggestion ladies. I've been trying to figure out how to get more protein other than just eating grilled chicken, shrimp and protein powder every day. Much appreciated!
Yep me too , gotta work on building muscle. I fasted and lost 20lbs in 30days. Now I’ve learned that a portion of the loss was also muscle. Oops.. So now I have to rebuild the muscle lost. Not easy at 50!
It's the amount of protein per meal that matters as well. It needs to be 30g or more to stimulate muscle protein synthesis so those 10-20g protein snacks aren't actually doing as much good as you think and are just racking up your calories.
Adding egg whites to oatmeal can be a great way to boost the protein, and if done right, it won’t change the taste too much! Here’s a trick: whisk the egg whites in a bowl first, then slowly stir them into your oatmeal as it’s cooking on low heat. This helps them blend in smoothly without becoming scrambled. You can also add cinnamon, vanilla extract, or fruit to enhance the flavor.
Thank you for trouble-shooting the protein equation. I have food sensitivities, so greek yogurt, eggs, and wheat gluten (lavosh) are no-nos for me. Please be considerate of these main food allergies and sensitivities when giving advice - alternatives would be super helpful. Getting enough protein is a huge challenge, much less striving for optimal protein intake. Keep up the helpful advice - thanks!
Can you eat meats? Because those are the optimal protein sources. Beef, bison, chicken, pork, turkey. I understand if you can’t tolerate eggs and other things currently, but if you can, you should try to be eating more meat.
Hi girls! Can I give a constructive suggestion? Love to hear more about this subject as it’s very important! But I find the background music too distracting to hear you… maybe posting without any background music would be more beneficial at least to me. I only watched part of your video for this reason…
Great video, I TOTALLY struggle with getting my daily amount of protein 😟 I lost a lot of weight but like you said I'm just trying to build muscle now and be toned, so lifting is my other challenge as it probably is for most women. Thanks for the content! 💛💯
May I ask what your LDL-C cholesterol readings are? Egg whites are technically not whole. Protein powder same thing. Jerky is high in sodium and not a whole food. Protein chips also processed. (I'm not a purist but just pointing this out. It's still hard to get from whole sources without rather big meals for a woman and a lot more prep and cost,) Some vegetables, especially green ones, have a high protein content PER CALORIE, so they can up the content at a meal with more dense (but also fattier or starchier) foods.
@@luminu_official Yes, and you are ignoring how you may be increasing people’s saturated fat level and their risk for cardiovascular disease. @Cara Coates, Something I discovered, by accident, more than 30 yrs. ago, a simple test: do you get a lot of gas from eating dairy, cheese and eggs? Do you think you might be lactos intolerant? You may not be lactos intolerant, rather, be deficient in an enzyme that breaks down the protein in dairy, cheese and eggs. Try kefir, or goat milk/cheese, even better, sheep cheese__kefir is fermented, and the protein in the others are broken down a little so your body can digest them more easily. That's why 'in the old days' if a woman couldn't breastfeed for some reason goat or sheep milk would be a comparable alternative. Hope this is helpful. Love, Light, and Blessings. 🙏😇✨💫🌱🌿🌻🐝🌳🌎💖🙌😺
Not an impolite question at all-it’s a common concern! Gas can happen when your body struggles to digest certain protein sources. Try spreading your protein intake across smaller meals, drinking plenty of water, and choosing easily digestible options like fish, poultry, or plant-based proteins.
I hope this gives you some good ideas! Oatmeal with egg whites, protein shake in your coffee, nut butters, meats, there are some different options! You’ve got this!! Thanks for watching! 😊
A couple of things. Why egg whites? You need the quality fat, so use whole eggs. Stop with the Standard American Diet SAD stuff. Yes, saturated fat is also important. Also, deli meat? Deli Meat is pure crap. You want to go with grass fed meat and wild caught fish. Even if you can't get grass fed meat, at least don't eat highly processed crap like deli meat. Protein quality matters. Here are some great sources: Wild Caught Salmon (get the large bag of Salmon fillets at Cosco). Canned wild caught sardines packed in water - great to eat right out of the can or on salads. Excellent sources of protein, fats, and minerals. Calfs Liver (preferably grass fed if you can get it). Liver is not always a favorite, but you would be hard pressed to get a denser protein with abundant vitamins and minerals. Any type of quality steak is good, and free range chicken is ok (I don't like chicken, but that's just a preference). Dairy is ok to round things out, but not especially protein dense. Other quick things - like organic bone broth, grass fed desiccated organ capsules are good for on the go. Does ditch any processed foods and powders. Eat the real thing.
Egg whites have a lot of protein with it, these are just some of the things that have worked for us. What are your go-tos for hitting your protein goal?
My question is how healthy is it to use deli meats? Lots of nitrates there. I guess what I am saying is, the quality of proteins really are very important.
Definitely! If someone prefers deli meat, that’s totally their choice. There are options out there with fewer nitrates, like those labeled “no added nitrates” or “uncured” deli meats. It’s all about finding what works best for each person while balancing quality and preference.
Im working with a womens health and hormone specialist and right now my goal is 100grams a day. Im finding it super hard to get in. A lot of deli meats actually have gluten in them- i have celiac. Ive been doing a protein shake each day. I don’t know if my body just has to adjust still. Greek yogurt is a meal for me. Not a snack it dessert. Any recommendations on snacks that aren’t just a chunk of meat?
@Amber Hollo, My understanding is gluten comes from grains so, if you want to eat deli meats(or meat in general) you will need to seek out "organic meat" that is NOT "grain finished". Also, organic dairy products. Hope this helps. 💖🙌😺
There are pastas made of chick peas with 19g of plant protein and glutten free. Barilla brand has a dedicated gluten free processing line. I enjoy snacking on garbanzo beans with arugala olive oil and vinigar. If i am in the mood I also add onions. Don't forget fruit makes a good snack too.
This is fantastic timing with this video because I have really been trying to figure out how to get my protein up. I added beef jerkey as a snack but it's not QUITE enough yet.
Ahh iv always been afrod of the Kodiak pankcakes.. eating that much carbs so early pout me in a coma. But might try it now thatbinknow about adding more protien powder before my long run/ hill/ stairs workout !
Thank you for supporting the content you are providing with a lot of really good information. Too many people follow fads without even understanding why.
It's very simple. One Gram of protein equals 4 calories. So knowing that when looking at nutrition labels, your looking for high protein vs amount of calories. Example: 1 can light tuna in water(drained) is 20g protein and 90 calories which means 80 of the calories is from protein. Same is with lean turkey breast or chicken breast and lean meats. Look at Greek yogurt vs regular yogurt, Greek is 15g protein at 90 calories vs regular yogurt is 10g protein at 120 calories. The Greek style gives you bigger bang for your buck. Eggs vs yogurt, eggs are 6g at 60cal. vs 15g at 90cal. 8oz of boneless skinless chicken breast is 50g protein at 250 calories. It's not that hard. When looking for good quality protein powders just remember 4g protein = 4cal. so when looking at the nutritional labels if it says 25g protein per serving you want the calories to be closest to 100cal per serving, the rest of calories are fillers. As for vegetables and getting micronutrients, I don't prioritize that because I get my micronutrients from a good high quality multivitamin. Fairlife milk has twice the protein and fewer calories then regular milk, it tastes the same and has a longer shelf life.
Try and do lose body fat and I’m struggling with the scale because the body the fat is not lowering some days and it’s not other days and I know I’m eating enough protein they say your goal weight should be your protein for the day I need some help?

Finding protein sources is not a big issue. Consuming that much food is hard. If I have a 40-50 g protein breakfast, that kills my appetite pretty much for the rest of the day. Monty Python - just one mint.
40g-50g of protein is too much for me for one meal. If you work out once or twice a week, you don't even need 100g of protein a day. 30g of protean per meal is better than one large consumption of protein in a meal.

Well, you have just started to increase consumption, so is it any surprise your stomach will need to stretch? And initially that may feel a bit uncomfortable? Increase slowly and you may avoid some of the discomfort. You will gain muscle weight if your are working out. But you wont get fat if you keep carbs on the low side.

So true
You should never separate eggs and eat the just the whites. It spikes the blood sugar. Always eat the whole egg the way nature intended!!
Wow! Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
Smoothies with protein powder and collagen powder, turkey in various forms (ground turkey tacos); cottage cheese, plain Greek or Icelandic yogurt.
Yes!!
I believe it would be helpful, especially for people just starting out, to see what 150 grams of protein looks like. That amount of protein only contains 600 calories so there is plenty of room for other whole foods on the plate. Thanks for the video
Good idea 💡 a visual of protein options on the plate would be helpful
Yup! We have put together some visuals so people can see the difference! Thank YOU.
Can you please email us? jmsa.inquiry@gmail.com.
@Phil Morgan,
With those goals you would be wise to find a physician that specifically works with TRUE ketosis!

Eat 6-9 eggs per day. If you're a male 9-12.
I eat 10 eggs a day! I’m very toned and shaped like a chicken
Lean ground meats are so dry so I use it in soups I prep with bone broth. Bone broth has 9grams protien per cup.
Yup! That is a great combo!
If you eat organic grass fed beef, the fat is actually very good for you. High in beta-carotene and good for your skin and hair. When ground beef is too lean, it can get dry very quickly and it’s not as tasty. But the key is getting organic grass fed beef.it’s superior to other forms of beef.
Yup, either one is a good option
I believe I have been deficient in protein most of my life. At the moment I'm aiming for 100g and I will increase it gradually because it takes time for my body to get used to it. Grocery shopping is quite expensive. I eat a lot of beef burgers, chicken and salmon. I am also incorporating eggs, protein powder and tinned tuna, thankfully these are cheaper than the fresh meat so it helps my budget.
One outside the box ideas I found was adding lintels to my rice. You can actually cook them together.
oh nice!
About a week ago, i finally realized I had been starving myself for over 20 years. Most americans eat between 30 to 50gm of protein if they do, and it should be over 100 gm. I'm up to 100 at the moment working to 130 to one day reach 150g
That’s great!!
Great suggestions! But how do you stay in a calorie deficit while hitting your protein goal?
Eating more protein is instead of starving yourself
Eating more (and mostly) protein & fats instead of carbs will naturally make you eat less once you’re adapted to it… protein is extremely filling. Carbs make you hungrier, literally. They cause insulin to spike more than anything else and it keeps you addicted to them.
Thanks so much for the great ideas for getting in more protein! Some days it seems really tough to get it all in, so these are very helpful for getting me out of the protein rut. Thanks, ladies!

You’re welcome Audrey, thanks for watching! Enjoy that protein! 💪
I think buying whole meats like an entire turkey or roast and cutting that and adding it to your lunch wraps ect. Eating processed meats you add too much salt and it is more expensive.
Yup! that is a good choice as well!

Omg, I'm not overweight, but I would describe my body fat distribution as "melted candle" as well! Those tight, knit dresses look comical on me now. Glad you found something that works!
I just have one question how could you possibly eat 150 grams of protein a day and not get constipated?
If you increase slowly, your body adjusts to it! How much protein are you eating daily currently?
You must eat enough fiber and fat as well
I look at cost, ease and efficiency so I use the approach of having a base of 5 foods that are easy to do and easy to get in bulk and require minimal preparation. With these as a base, it's a lot easier to make other stuff like fish, turkey and beef (though I usually avoid beef), and foods that are under 50% protein.
non fat is a silent killer.
That is a great way of setting yourself up for success!
Starts about 6:30
12:37pm CST how do I incorporate the high Protein snacks but stay away from all of the high sodium levels that are in things like the Turkey Jery, string cheese, etc?

Fasting is so stressful on the body.
It's the amount of protein per meal that matters as well. It needs to be 30g or more to stimulate muscle protein synthesis so those 10-20g protein snacks aren't actually doing as much good as you think and are just racking up your calories.

How do you add egg whites to oatmeal and make it taste ok?
Adding egg whites to oatmeal can be a great way to boost the protein, and if done right, it won’t change the taste too much! Here’s a trick: whisk the egg whites in a bowl first, then slowly stir them into your oatmeal as it’s cooking on low heat. This helps them blend in smoothly without becoming scrambled. You can also add cinnamon, vanilla extract, or fruit to enhance the flavor.
@luminu_official thank you so much!
Almond or oat milk yogurt, tuna, ground turkey, beans, plant pea protein powder

So egg whites, greek yogourt. I dont think deli meat ie processed food should be eaten. How about grass fed cow.
While deli meats are processed and may not be ideal for everyone, grass-fed beef can be an excellent choice for high-quality protein.
Great video, I TOTALLY struggle with getting my daily amount of protein 😟 I lost a lot of weight but like you said I'm just trying to build muscle now and be toned, so lifting is my other challenge as it probably is for most women. Thanks for the content! 💛💯
Thank YOU for watching! Are you still struggling with protein today?
May I ask what your LDL-C cholesterol readings are? Egg whites are technically not whole. Protein powder same thing. Jerky is high in sodium and not a whole food. Protein chips also processed. (I'm not a purist but just pointing this out. It's still hard to get from whole sources without rather big meals for a woman and a lot more prep and cost,) Some vegetables, especially green ones, have a high protein content PER CALORIE, so they can up the content at a meal with more dense (but also fattier or starchier) foods.
We didn't talk about cholesterol in this video. We're talking about how to get protein in, period.

This might be unpolite question. But if I eat more than a 120g of protein, I get terrible gas. Any suggestions?
Same here, drink a lot of water and up fiber to aid with digestion, protein can be more work for the body to digest.
@Cara Coates,
Something I discovered, by accident, more than 30 yrs. ago, a simple test: do you get a lot of gas from eating dairy, cheese and eggs? Do you think you might be lactos intolerant?
You may not be lactos intolerant, rather, be deficient in an enzyme that breaks down the protein in dairy, cheese and eggs.
Try kefir, or goat milk/cheese, even better, sheep cheese__kefir is fermented, and the protein in the others are broken down a little so your body can digest them more easily. That's why 'in the old days' if a woman couldn't breastfeed for some reason goat or sheep milk would be a comparable alternative.
Hope this is helpful.

Not an impolite question at all-it’s a common concern! Gas can happen when your body struggles to digest certain protein sources. Try spreading your protein intake across smaller meals, drinking plenty of water, and choosing easily digestible options like fish, poultry, or plant-based proteins.
I pre plan lunch and dinner, but I struggle with breakfast. Get tired of eggs
@@luminu_official Salmon, Sardines, Calf Liver, Bone Broth (usually chicken), Whey protein, plain Greek Yogurt, Grass Fed Butter, assorted other meats at times - steak, chicken, etc.
So how do you get these grams with interment fasting....impossible if you are skipping breakfast😢
Why do you feel like you need to do IF? Is that just for weight loss?
Protein powder is not a "supplement". It is a true protein, but yes, it's better to get protein from whole food sources.
Sometimes people like to use protein powder to help meet there goal.
Makes PERFECT sense ladies. Thank you.
Thank you, glad this was helpful!
But Dr Gabrielle Lyon says you need atcleast 30 grams at one meal to trigger the muscle protein synthesis reaction, right?

Im working with a womens health and hormone specialist and right now my goal is 100grams a day. Im finding it super hard to get in. A lot of deli meats actually have gluten in them- i have celiac. Ive been doing a protein shake each day. I don’t know if my body just has to adjust still. Greek yogurt is a meal for me. Not a snack it dessert. Any recommendations on snacks that aren’t just a chunk of meat?
@Amber Hollo,
My understanding is gluten comes from grains so, if you want to eat deli meats(or meat in general) you will need to seek out "organic meat" that is NOT "grain finished".

All of these things are high in calories - how do you stay thin?
Yup!! All great examples!
