    I used to build model cars from car kits when I was a teen..and even a shaker trike.... They were fun! But... This is more than just building a model car! The detail in these models defy description! Honestly... It looks as though shrink juice was applied to a full-size car, from a car show, and labeled as a model...... They are THAT good!! Great Job GSL!!! :D

It wouldn’t surprise me if Barlow Juan of those guys picks it up and runs it but they can only do it if Mark gifts than his blessing and I don’t know that he would be willing to do that. Probably this next one will in fact be the last. Sad but it’s been a good run.

    Intense "screwing around". As old Emeril would say, "Kicked this up notches un-heard of!" Have always admired that guy that could make a kit model and put so much work into it you want to own it. This coming from a guy that would get the glue on his fingers and, you know the story. The next thing you know it is spray painted all one color, windows and all. Much worse these days now with a numb left hand and loosing sensation on two of my fingers on my right. Tremors make for a fun target, these days. Seriously, a well done episode. The level of detail is beyond imagination. Karyn is really doing a great job. You two are a kick to watch and listen to. Love the model cars. On the Heber Creeper show I said this. Louis Gurske6 days ago
    Thank you so much. You brought back so much memory's for me and my wife Marie.
    Like you it will always be the Heber Creeper to us. We road it in 1974. At that time it had an old rail yard, station, old rail cars and out buildings. I filmed the Heber Creeper on 16 MM film. At that time they had a Shay that they I be leave ran on there line to. The film has been put away for years. I will look for it and have it put into a CD. I will then try to get a copy to you. I hope this will work out for you. It should bring back many memories for us and you. Lou P.S. how far back did you ride the Heber.

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision 7 лет назад

      Hi and WOW. Not sure when I first rode it.. I remember pulling the 618 out of the fair grounds and taking it to Heber. That was the start of the whole thing. Then a guy, Edwards, brought in his locomotives and the Sons of Utah Pioneers added their locomotives. I think Edwards owned the Shay, but it's all a fog bank in my brain. He had a bunch of locos, mostly up at Heber, but I think he had 2 in Ogden. And I know he had one in Salt Lake as I tried to buy it. It's now in the Bay Area and running! Little 0-6-0 switcher. Anyway, they were running out of the original Heber Depot. LAter a guy bought the whole deal, Ashton, and he built the western town as I recall. The other depot was there, but as now, not being used. It came in with the Sons of Pioneers locos from Corine. ANYWAY, great old line, glad to see it still running, and someday, the 618 will be running again!!

    First off, thank you for such a nice video, I spent most of my childhood, and part of my adulthood, building models, and progressed into a really seasoned builder, that being said ,I have to point out that the model of the 1958 Thunderbird, had a 59 Grill in it ,I know that because my dad had a 59 Thunderbird, which had the straight bar grill, so I’m thinking that the builder make that from scratch..

    Dale, you make mention that the term "rat rod" is an homage to Ed Roth's Rat Fink. You may be a little confused here, it's my understanding that the term "rat rod" is from guys who would show up at car shows with cars that had primer or 4 different mag wheels or exposed bondo, and or rust holes or all of the above and then some. Sort of a term for a "work in progress" or "ratty-rod" The kind of car that instead of having a lowering kit, they just heated the springs with a torch until the car dropped, same guys who used silver paint instead of chrome, you get the idea. You are correct in your statement that Ed Roth never built, (or would have been caught dead) building a "rat rod".

    • @ToyManTelevision
      @ToyManTelevision 7 лет назад

      The "junkyard dog" cars do have connection to Rat Fink, just not Ed. And only after the fact I think. BUt the "Rat Rod" being the product of a fast "build" from junkyard parts does invoke the idea that Rat Fink lives in a junk yard and spends his days cobbling together hot rods from junk. Many Rat Rods do have Rat Fink painted on, and even Rat Fink names, like my favorite L.A.B. Rat, with a rat fink logo. So the connection is there, but unintended, and as I say, after the fact. In this case the chicken came before the egg.

    • @karynfelix-the-Cat
      @karynfelix-the-Cat 7 лет назад

      No confusion... If you attend the Rat Fink Reunion, there will be an entire section of Rat Rods.. all devoted to Rat Fink himself.. Rat Fink, but not necessarily Ed Roth himself.. Yet there is a connection.
      Rat Fink lives in his own world..Perhaps just a bit "anti-establishment". He makes "do" with the things he has.. He is an artist and an inventor. He isn't worried about the external world around him.. He stays busy by creating... which is anything that involves getting him from point A to point B... and usually as F-A-S-T as possible. He is at home in a junk yard, where he has access to all of these parts, when assembled just right... Why.. Anything goes!! Rat Fink, himself, is a work in progress... as is all of his modes of transportation. He grew up with the same values as Wile E. Coyote.. But the Roadrunner Mr. Fink wanted, had 4 wheels.. and Mr. Fink had no money.. So he had to improvise.. You know.. Make do.. or do without.
      There is a little bit of Rat Fink in all of us, from time to time. For me... The Rat Rod is paying homage to the spirit of Rat Fink! :D

      Toy Man Television yes sir. I thought so too and wondered why? I guess they were the cheapest round the house material he could find back in the probably early seventies when he really got into it. and he had tons of old records. to this day he'll just give me a box of them to look through from time to time. of course you couldn't tell they were records when he was done. one I really remember was a three foot long crane that he made remote also. Was just one of those things you were like how'd he do that but came natural to him. he has to have some left and some pics. I'll get ahold of something. thanks for responding and thanks for ya'lls videos. some really unique talent or as i see it art!

    Although my interest in models and miniatures is focused predominantly on trains cars and automotive models do hold an interest for me. I used to have a 1/25 scale model of the W&A "General" (which was sadly damaged beyond repair in a move) and I've always wanted to get a model of an early car in the same scale to pair with it. (Not to mention a new model of the General) That was a pretty cool show and has gotten the gears in my head turning with an old concept I have, a steampunk Semi-Truck. I drew it out on paper once, but could certainly use an update! I would have to wonder how it would fair in a model show like the one here.
    With all that said, words cannot describe how eager I am to see next week's episode! I've had a budding interest in the Uintah and I am VERY eager to learn and see more about it. Keep up the awesome stuff, Toy Man!!

      Great modeling is always a joy to see. Have you seen the show on the ship models? The ones made 200 years ago from chicken bones by prisoners of war BLOW MY MIND. Tiny, and detailed beyond belief, and made from left over bones with no tools!! Modeling is an amazing art form. And while I doubt I'd find a model of a washing machine interesting, who knows?

    A little info on Chameleon paint from a retired auto-body owner and car builder. The paint was designed in Santa Rosa, Calif. by a company called Optical Coatings. They originally designed it for use in our paper currency for non-duplication purposes contracted by our govt. DuPont bought the rights for the coating only and turned it into a custom paint called Chromalusion. It was very, very expensive and came in just a few colors. All colors had predominantly a base, or theme color until it was viewed at a different angle. It was short lived on the show circuit because it lacked originality and was just "unique" It also always showed a "dirty" reddish-gold sidecars in all colors. Also, Ed Roth was known for the character "Rat Fink" and he never started the rat rod culture. That was born out of a different culture that no longer wanted to spend a gazillion dollars on show cars. It was a thumb to the nose against "trailer Queens" that then morphed into into a love for rust and all manner of weird aged stuff. 'Kind of like Rock n' Roll turned into Rap.

      I remember seeing some very interesting “cars” painted with that chameleon paint. They were touring around in art museums. Sort of open framework non-functioning cars that were really a form of sculpture. They were really neat and that was the first time I saw the use of that paint and it was fascinating. Ed wants explain to me how we came up with the whole rat Fink idea in a weird sort of way it is similar to rat rods but now they have no relationship to each other other than the fact that the rat Fink reunion attracts tons of rat rods. Anyway Ed was at a car show and somebody was being a pain in the butt and so he drew a caricaturyof that person with their car as a hairy creature with giant eyeballs just to piss him off, and well everyone loved it and it became his signature look.

      docredline he was unique. Told me he put millions up his nose. Lost everything. Even his cars and awards. Then he became a Mormon. And started over. That’s when I met him. Boy what a story. But he told kids the dangers of drugs. Made it a big part of his life.

    Cool awesome model show truck semi rig the real show trucks aren't that cheap I've seen one at Kenly NC at the I95 Petro truck stop it was a Peterbuilt 379 stretched out with an 359 sleeper stainless steel refrigerated 48 ft trailer the driver and owner custom built an apartment in the trailer I think he's retired and drives it from truck show to truck show us professional truckers love our trucks LOL the moving trucks have full beds showers kitchenettes washer and dryer that's why the sleepers are Soo huge on them.

    Just to clue in the peepers. John Teresi built the stagecoach wheelstander and the phonebooth rod. He is a contemporary of mine and I wanted to shine a light on him. A great builder and all around nice guy. i suggest visiting modelcarsmag.com to see what me and my friends are up to. if you dig craftsmanship then this is the place to be. Sift through the forum to see amateur all the way to fine craftsmanship. It's fun and we all get along as we build plastic fantastics and urge each other on to greater heights.

      I saw a paint job where they painted over a bird $h1t. Didn't ever wash off the car. HOWEVER, I also saw a few great paint jobs from Earl's shop. IF you did your own prep, bought your own quality paint, and just had them shoot it, they could and would do a great job!

    Where is the next show going to be ? I was watching your video of the show and you kept commenting on trucks and cars and the like being scratch built...I was clearly seeing parts from diffrent kits put together and things like hoses and clamps...to me they are not scratch built.Scratch built means to me entirely made from scratch.I have a 70 1/2 split bumper camaro scratch built from entirely from paper.There are only 2 things on the car not paper...the leds for the tag, tail; headlights, under the front fenders,dash gauges and headlights which work off a remote and the glass.It has throttle linkage from the butterflys on the blower to the gas pedal which open from pushing the gas pedal down.I would like to put my car out there to see how it would fare.If not from my complete documentation of the build people do not believe the car is made from paper down to studs...lug nuts valve stems and the tread on the tires.

      Been pushed back for a year because of Covid. Was going to be June of 2022. Now May of 2023. Salt Lake City Utah. The winning cars are often scratch. Or mostly so. The truck in this years show was mostly scratch built. The last two years winners or three years? All but tires. The USAC racer from 2010? Not sure. We have shows on those. Anyway that car is 100% scratch built including the tires

    The drag bike based on Larry "Spiderman" McBride. It ran deep into the 5's at over 240+mph. Also the wheelstanders at the drag races are still around. Ed "The Outlaw" Jones was just at RMR in Salt Lake last weekend. Great show Dale and Karyn!
