thank you for all this info! I just starting to study SP manual 9th edition! u think thats what im going to need to study for when they open again in september?
will you be making any videos on how to pass the new exam when september rolls around? i just scheduled to take the test in may, and i’m using your videos to help me study (which have been such a big help, thank you so much)! but in the event that i don’t pass, i’m just wondering if you’ll make any videos on the new exam so i know to come back to your channel 😁
As far as the AORN and AAMI books I wouldn’t worry about purchasing those. Everything you need is in the HSPA 9th edition manual. Here you go: myhspa.org/education/publications/sterile-processing-technical-manual/
That is a fantastic question and why it’s so urgent that techs know. Not every facility will care. And if they want a reason to fire someone they might use this and claim they had “plenty of time” and shouldn’t have waited till the last minute. I’ve seen employers do shitty things like that.
I was wondering if I haven’t gotten hired yet and want do the provisional version do I still send in the application for the September testing even though I don’t have an employer to fill out info?
Thanks for this video. I'm set to take the pilot test some date between 6/1 - 6/15, and was wondering if you have any updated info about the pilot test. They confirmed that alao 150 questions and that all is taken from 9th edition, but thats all i really got. Thanks!
@@thesterileguy Yep! Aware of that as well I paid the $98. Thanks for confirming the Sept part, wasnt too sure. Dont understand why it should take that long
@@ScottD1 I tried to explain it in the video not sure if it made sense. But the Pilot Exam is essentially the new exam, but without scores. All the data they will gather from everyone who takes the pilot exam will help them to assign scoring weight to each individual question as well as overall scoring for each version of the test. The certification tests are evaluated using the Angoff procedure which is supplemented by the Beuk Relative-Absolute Compromise method. Basically fancy language to say not only is each question scored a "weight", the overall versions of the tests are scored a "weight." Because one version of the exam might be harder than another, the "passing score" may be different which is why you do not get to see what your score was when you pass or fail.
Question I completed Surgical Technology in 2006 and did not renew certification. Would I need to take the course to sit for the new test? And if so since the testing will not resume until September when should I enroll in Preppy?
You’re talking about two different things here. If you completed Surgical Technology that is for certified surgical technologist exam from NBSTSA. The CRCST certification is for sterile processing through HSPA. If you intend to get certified as CRCST, I would enroll in Preppy asap since it will take you a few months to finish.
Where can I find the two sources, ST79/2017 and the AORN guidelines 2023. I am not getting many results on Google search for these two. The AORN book is $300 bucks. Any help would be greatly appreciated
That’s part of the problem, they are not free resources. AORN - $300, AAMI - $462. But one thing I’ve learned, is the HSPA manual pulls all their info from AAMI. And the AORN doesn’t contribute much so the maybe 1 or 2 questions isn’t an issue.
Will the chapters you listed for 9th edition that are on the test on your previous videos will those be on the pilot test in June and September tests? /Thanks. Just debating whether to take the current test or to wait and try the pilot and to know which chapters it will be on.
okay thank you. so the current chapters listed are for the current tests then. I've been studying your crcst practice tests and flash cards so hoping they cover the pilot test if I decide to take in June :) I'm conflicted in either taking current in May or to do pilot test 😒@@thesterileguy
Great question on the retaking part, I believe you probably need to call them. As far as applying, HSPA’s website has the paper application, but hasn’t yet got the online application ready. myhspa.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/HSPA_CRCST_Pilot_Application_2024-005.pdf
Ok, not really related to the test.... I'm trying to figure out my own timeline of getting things done regarding getting in to this field of work. I need to stay working at my current job for now... so, I thought Id try to get certified (provisional) then start working/volunteering (part time) to fulfill the 400 hours..... but...... what cert is it that Id get starting out?? And what is needed to get the complete cert... is that the CRCST?? I looked at my local job listings for positions and all of the m are full time..... most want cert and 1-2 years experience. Not sure how to go about it
So the CRCST is the basic certification for a Sterile Processing Technician. The provisional cert is the CRCST, just kind of in a pending status until you fulfill the hours requirement. Once you fulfill and submit hours it converts to full CRCST. As for the jobs, job announcements always put the “ideal” candidate information, but finding certified techs with multiple years of experience is a tall order, I would apply anyways.
Do you think it’s a better chance of passing the pilot exam??? Also, do you think the results will really take until September to be revealed?? @thesterileguy
I definitely think it’s a better chance to pass since you are part of creating the exam scoring. And honestly I hope it doesn’t take until September, that’s a long time to wait.
@@thesterileguy True, but, not recognized as a National requirement to work in any capacity of a medical facility. Thus, causing a shortage of FT employees wanting to support those facilities as the pay is just ridiculous. Hence why more certified techs are moving into a traveling role.
I see what you mean. I totally agree. We need legislation to require training and certification like Surg tech, pharm techs, radiology techs etc. When it becomes more serious with requirements with legislation it becomes more recognized and valued. But with a lot of techs going traveling, I’m happy about that. The less techs willing to get hired locally drives up the cost for hiring travel techs. Eventually hospitals will figure out they should probably just raise their wages for steady employees since they are already paying out the a$$ for travelers techs. 😂
Hi, I just mailed in my information to set a testing date. I sent this on Feb. 28, 2024. Do you think I'll get the old or updated version of test? I haven't heard anything yet
The old version. As long as you apply before March 31st and use the current application it will be old/current version. To get the pilot test is a whole different application.
I’m assuming you mean between the pilot and the new exam in Sep right? If you’re wanting the current exam you have to submit it by fax, mail, or email before April 12th. Here is the application for current exam. myhspa.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/V3_HSPA_CRCST_Application_2024.pdf
