Thank you for this video!! I was contemplating on what I should go for. My local hospitals are okay with both but I only want to study for just one. HSPA sounds like a winner to me for the long run!
Great information, you knocked the ball outta the ball park again Brandon 👍🏾 My experience with taking the CBSPD endoscope exam was disappointing because the exam didn’t reflect what I studied. I was completely confused. The score to pass was a 70, I scored 68. Lastly, speaking on the HSPA CRCST exam, so far 2 people from my study group pass their exam 🎉🎉🎉 Yipee!!! Once again, Thanks for your HSPA exam tips 👍🏾
@@thesterileguy Hey Brandon, I couldn’t find your email address in the channel info. To share my experience taking that CFER exam through CBSPD. Thanks for your reply to comment👍🏾
I was thinking about also getting my CRCST certification, currently CSPDT Certified. About to start new job in Oct which allows my current certification. Just think when I'm ready to travel I may need to be HSPA certified. love your videos just wanted your thoughts if I should go for HSPA certification as well?
Having certifications from both organizations does open up all job opportunities for you. I wouldn’t say any one has more value than another. But if I was in your shoes I would get the CRCST.
I see it is tucked away inside a document they call a “bulletin.” Regardless, their pass/fail rates are garbage and ruthless to techs trying to get into the field.
@thesterilguy, I recently took the new pilot exam from HSPA and I found it extremely difficult. I didn't pass. What are your thoughts on this new test? Any advice on new study material to prepare for my re-test ?
Hi the sterile guy! Do you think passing the hspa would give me a chance passing the cbspd exam also? I watched your other video about hspa vs. Cbspd. And you mentioned cbspd only has a 50% chance of passing. Any thoughts! Thank you!
Both use the same source of content for the exams. The difference is that CBSPD is much more difficult to pass because the questions don’t make as much sense and leave more room for confusion. HSPA questions are pretty straightforward. What makes you want to get both certifications? Having both doesn’t increase your pay, it just means you have to earn extra CEUs and pay twice to renew certifications.
No, not the same. The Basics book is from Sterile Processing University. I’m sure it’s a great book, but it is not the book used for creating the CRCST exam. You need a HSPA/IAHCSMM manual to study from. The 9th edition is available for $90 on HSPA store website.
@@lovelykellies2908 Not exactly. Think of it as a textbook for Sterile Processing University. That textbook pulls a lot of information from the CRCST manual and CBSPD's info, but it doesn't mean it is up to date nor does it guarantee to have all the information on the certification exams. For proper and safe studying you need the HSPA manual.
Can you have the choice which exam to take even if you took the CBSPD class? I don’t want to take any chances and be wasting time. I only took this class just to have something to show the employers that I took one.
All the information CBSPD and HSPA use for their tests all come from the same place. The questions will be different but essentially it doesn’t matter. I do know the CBSPD test has poor pass rates and I’m not exactly sure why. I personally would go with HSPA even if I took a CBSPD course.
@@thesterileguyok thank you bc this is my situation as well. my school only has us take cbspd. but im thinking to also do some self studying on the side to take the hspa.
I'm doing my research and it looks like on the CRCST, you can take the exam without your 400 hours and submit the 400 hours within a certain amount of time to be fully certified, but for the HSPA, you cant? I wanted to double check with you incase im missing information on the website. Thank you!
Yes you can, it is called Provisional Certification and I have a video coming out soon on that. FYI, HSPA is the name of the organization, and CRCST is their technician certification. So yes HSPA offers the ability to certify without hours but CBSPD does not.
Ohh. Ok. Thank you for the correction. I'm trying to get certified first and work a night job as a sterile processing technician because in October, I'm going to school for a Scrub technician. What are your thoughts about this? I AM paying out of pocket about 28k for school. 😬
Wow that’s a lot of money! What program/school is this? You can become either a scrub tech or a combo of sterile processing and scrub tech through medcerts much much cheaper even able to access with a payment plan. Here is my affiliate link. medcerts.referral-factory.com/CXZHxf/join
Sjvc here in Central California. It's an AA in Suergical Technology. Please let me know what they're not telling me. Lol. Like everyone else, I have bills to pay and going to school for another 15 months with no night job will make me soo behind on bills. I did check out medcert but saw some bad reviews. I will look at it again of its more cost effective. Thank you!
If you take the Preppy program, not only will it prepare you to pass, they will do the work to find you an externship site for all the hours. www.TheSterileGuy.com
myhspa.org/certification/certification-overview/certified-registered-central-service-technician-crcst/ I am just sending HSPA because I think CBSPD isn't worth anyone's time.
I’m starting a class and they only offer CBSPD! I’m discouraged because you said the pass fail rate. But I’m trying tk factor in most people may be self studying. It might help that I’m in a class?
To be honest, a large amount of people taking CBSPD are because of classes pushing that. So are the classes not teaching well? Or is CBSPD just that bad? You tell me when you’re done.
Thank you for this video!! I was contemplating on what I should go for. My local hospitals are okay with both but I only want to study for just one. HSPA sounds like a winner to me for the long run!

Thanks for the breakdown. HSPA is obviously the way to go for certification.

I can’t stand CBSPD to be honest. I feel like HSPA is the way to go all the way.

I just failed my CBSPD. Just not happy for paying for a chance to fail and not get certified.
Sorry to hear that. CBSPD is notorious for high failure rates. You’d be much better off going with HSPA.
@thesterileguy Yup, now I just gotta find a Hospital that would hire me to get the hours....a long journey.
