I recently got a Bandai 1/35th scale model kit of one of the injection machines they make thier model kits with. That nearly broke my brain....lol. It even had a tiny 2 piece mold, unfortunately it wasn't a mold of the same it.
Actually blast processing refers to the high speed DMA (direct memory access) and RAM bandwidth. Basically it could load data faster which allowed better scrolling, better frame rate with more stuff on screen, and it could do 3D models without any expansion. So yeah, it was an actual thing it just was poorly explained.

Naturally we were a bit mad about that, and that was the first and last console she ever removed from our possession. But a few years ago I actually kinda got my sweet, sweet revenge for that: Bought myself a hosed Master System II, gutted it, and then tossed a Raspberry Pi loaded up with RetroPie into it. I got the on-off-switch working, and even the Pause button worked for a while, until SOMETHING broke it. Otherwise it worked brilliantly - except that I could never get the cartridge slot to work by using the connector to hide a USB drive in a cartridge. Well, afterwards I learned that history does repeat itself, because I then got the Retroflag SuperPi case together with an upgrade from a Pi 3B to a Pi 3B+. The bodged-together Master System Pi fell into disrepair since then, the superglued chunks of Pi case that held it broke off, the usb leads I used as controller ports also broke off despite my attempts to reinforce it with epoxy... Oh well.
Funny thing is, I've got the MegaDrive games collection for my PS3 on a single disc and it cost less than this model. Furthermore, it still gives me the hit of sweet childhood nostalgia that I require from time to time...
Honestly, it's a cute little thing for collectors, and I wouldn't mind grabbing one if it were only a few dollars, but I can literally go into any used game shop or consignment shop in town and pick up a Genesis/Megadrive for next to nothing. With a game included.
Given that they haven't moulded proper controller ports and I/O I'd be absolutely amazed if they'd bothered with that. You wouldn't really need one anyway, the MCD1 basically just sat underneath the MD and the 32X sat in the cartridge port. I love that not long after this came along, the whole concept of this was rendered basically redundant when the mini console emulation box trend came along. The actual Mega Drive Mini that was released by Sega was really good too, as those things go. Hell, there's also those RetroPi cases; specifically the one that is basically a tiny Mega Drive model that also functions as a case for a Raspberry Pi. Something like that is also way cooler, more useful (and better done, tbh) than this.
In the 90s, the MD2 and MS2 both looked like improvements. Soft, rounder edges were a design hallmark of the decade after the boxy 80s, just look at the 90s Nissan Micra and Vauxhall Corsa. Back then, the updated models were definitely more current-looking. However at almost 30 years remove, I think the original designs have stood up better to modern eyes. Design trends have come full circle again and the MD1/MS1 both now look sleek and stylish while the updates look like cheap, plasticky toys.
I'm a bit disappointed they didn't try to make it like a model car or boat or trainset, where you have to manually assemble the PCB, the casing, the controller and whatnot. Still, pretty cute idea. Maybe this will be the molds used for the Genesis / MD Classic.

Oh well.
*MEGA DRIVE*
*MEGA DRIVE*
*MEGA DRIVE*
it's only a model
*Shh*
'tis a silly place.
Right, right.
This belongs in a museum!
0:30 an obscure Beatles song!! QUINCY LIVES!!!
2:57 Altered Beast was only for 88-90, in 91 it was changed to Sonic
Funny thing is, I've got the MegaDrive games collection for my PS3 on a single disc and it cost less than this model. Furthermore, it still gives me the hit of sweet childhood nostalgia that I require from time to time...
Honestly, it's a cute little thing for collectors, and I wouldn't mind grabbing one if it were only a few dollars, but I can literally go into any used game shop or consignment shop in town and pick up a Genesis/Megadrive for next to nothing. With a game included.
Does the expansion port open? It'd be cool to see them also make scale model Sega CDs & 32Xs that connects to that Model 1.
Given that they haven't moulded proper controller ports and I/O I'd be absolutely amazed if they'd bothered with that. You wouldn't really need one anyway, the MCD1 basically just sat underneath the MD and the 32X sat in the cartridge port. Unless you wanted an insane level of detail you wouldn't need them to attach to the console in just the same way the real ones do.
Great job!
Legend!
I legit checked Ashens’s channel earlier thinking “Hmm, haven’t seen Ashens release a video for a bit, I hope I haven’t missed it”
Sure enough, a couple of hours later, this comes out... ICANSEETHEFUTURE
You don't even get the satisfaction of building it which is THE ENTIRE POINT OF A SCALE MODEL
Still got my MegaDrive Mrk1, my first console when I was a kid. Pro tip get a scart cable, Scart to HDMI converter, an Everdrive Flashcart and a 8Bitdo Wireless controller if you want the best quality and experience from one nowadays.
you had exactly the same thought that I did, unless you really do want a near exact replica i think most people will wait for the megadrive mini to come out as it actually does something and from what I can tell, looks pretty darn accurate anyway.
I like how they made the label look like it's on display at a electronic's store.
Lookin like a Radio Shack label
Always clean internet watchin' with Ashens.
I like how the Genesis Mini is literally the same thing, but with an actual purpose.
The stickers completely ruin any chance it had at being a decent thing.
Gunship it’s not stickers, it’s paint
@@moodyk1979 It's clearly stickers he even mentioned it -_-
@@Gun5hip just because he says its stickers makes it true? If he said the sea was pure you would believe it? How do I know? Because I own one and it's not a sticker!!
@@moodyk1979 Well, if Ashens did say the sea was pure, I'd believe him. Are you telling me you wouldn't?
Thanks for the review . £35 quid ! i nearly brought my own beer.
i got some mail from mr ashens yesterday. my blu-ray arrived :D.
Should I invest in offshore drilling or hedge fund management or buy a vectrex?
looks very nice
Hi I just started watching your videos last week and I love them.
the old mega drive brings back nostalgia. I know that's not real before the sarcasm starts lol
If you're not a Mega Drive expert, you've got friends who are.
A model? Wow, that's just utterly pointless 🤣
I honestly don't know why you'd want this over just an old megadrive, especially if you don't require it to work o.O
Do you also stand in Argos raging at the fact they make model cars? LOL
@@nickarmitt4722 nope, I don't go to argos and I don't buy model anythings 🤣
"They have made a tiny version of something I dont like so it must be pointless, as I am GOD!!!!"
I am guessing you don't buy cups or tshirts that are branded. How much did you pay for that hat? I bet you I could get one for cheaper that is plain.
Old Man Logic: "This is dumb who would pay for it?!?!?!? ... " *puts on overpriced gaming t-shirt without a hint of irony*
@@nickarmitt4722 if your reaction to working in an office is to buy a tiny, nonfunctional megadrive then i guess you already lost. there are much better idols
That sofa has seen many things
If it was actually tiny, like 4cm wide and under £10, I'd buy a whole range of these. I love miniature things, that's just not small enough.
Mega Drive!
Mega Drive!
Mega Drive!
It’s only a model...
Shh!
BenCol - ‘Let’s not go to Camelot, it is a silly place’
I love that not long after this came along, the whole concept of this was rendered basically redundant when the mini console emulation box trend came along. The actual Mega Drive Mini that was released by Sega was really good too, as those things go.
Hell, there's also those RetroPi cases; specifically the one that is basically a tiny Mega Drive model that also functions as a case for a Raspberry Pi. Something like that is also way cooler, more useful (and better done, tbh) than this.
Well guess what? Retro Electro went bust like 2 years after the video came out
I hate that everything Mega Drive/Genesis is Model 1. The Model 2 deserves more love, aesthetically the best redesign in console history.
But did have dog shit sound
In the 90s, the MD2 and MS2 both looked like improvements. Soft, rounder edges were a design hallmark of the decade after the boxy 80s, just look at the 90s Nissan Micra and Vauxhall Corsa. Back then, the updated models were definitely more current-looking.
However at almost 30 years remove, I think the original designs have stood up better to modern eyes. Design trends have come full circle again and the MD1/MS1 both now look sleek and stylish while the updates look like cheap, plasticky toys.
What is this, mega drive for ants?!
Game Gear Micro: Hold my beer.
I'm a bit disappointed they didn't try to make it like a model car or boat or trainset, where you have to manually assemble the PCB, the casing, the controller and whatnot. Still, pretty cute idea. Maybe this will be the molds used for the Genesis / MD Classic.
Still more functional than an ATGames console!
It reminds me of that Sonic collectable you reviewed a little while ago. At least that one had sound. I have a little Mega Drive keyring though, and it's well cute.
Did the model fit in the reproduction box? It looked way to small.
Ashens. They are make it because of people like you !
With a little lead it would make a decent paper weight, and that's it.
5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 I love you!
Sega of America QA testing nerd here. That Megadrive is a Genesis with a rebadge. Look at the cartridge shape.
Megadrive carts were oval in shape as they slotted into the console, Genesis carts had that half oval cartridge shape.
I just realized... when did RUclips add HD 50 FPS? that's cool.
