- I've been a little slow with uploading Pink Floyd songs recently so I think It's only best that we do them 2 days in a row. This song was such a vibe! I hope you enjoy my reaction and please let me know what other videos or songs you'd like me to react to!

Gilmour wrote this because he and Nick Mason were afraid to fly so to conquer their fears, they both got their pilot licenses.

I live in Calgary Alberta, driving to work a few months ago and a local radio station was talking to a local pilot. He worked primarily as a crop duster. He got a call from a guy asking to book him for a photo shoot in 1987 with his plane. Turns out it was a rep for Pink Floyd’s manager and they were shooting a video in the nearby vicinity. They made the pilot go lower and lower and lower lol he thought he was going to hit the production crew. Anyways you just watched the final product. Peace from Canada!

So glad you're getting to experience the different phases of Pink Floyd. Their 6th album, "Meddle" (with "One Of These Days" and "Echoes) signaled the end of their psychedelic era and most of the influences of original co-founder Syd Barrett), opening the way to the next 4 (Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall) where social commentary was the recurring overall theme (growing more bitter along with Roger Waters' persona). Then came "The Final Cut", which was basically a Waters solo album and preceded his rather acrimonious exit from the band. The next two (A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell) led now by David Gilmour, were far more hopeful and uplifting in nature - projecting emotions like nostalgia and hope for the future. Their studio recording career ended many years later (after the passing of Richard Wright) with "The Endless River", which was almost entirely comprised of material written for Division Bell (and mostly instrumental, featuring and dedicated to Wright) with only one song written specifically for it (the title track). We are blessed to have this entire catalog to rehear and enjoy, preserved for future generations as well. Pink Floyd may be gone from the stage, but they'll live on in our minds and hearts forever.
Indeed. “Meddle” remains my favorite Floyd album.

Hi. we all love pink floyd you are still at the tip of the iceberg of their music many great songs to go this being one of them.
Critics said in the 60's and 70's that Floyd will not sell or get a lot of radio play cause they don't do 4 min. dance music. Hence: 1983 album "P.F. collection of dance songs" ( check the cover pic.) and the disco ball in their last 2 tours as a FU to critics. Gilmour bought an antique air craft museum after learning to fly.
I saw Pink Floyd over in Germany in 1987. Their Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. Wish you could have seen them in concert.
Regarding your comment about "certain people" in the beginning of your video. Just remember, there are people that make bad decisions and struggle in life. Then, they want to see others struggle too. It makes them feel better about yourself. Not only do you want to make money and live a comfortable life, but it's also responsible. Keep it up man! Loving your videos!
When it comes to money, dont work so little that you are stressed by money, dont qork so much thqt you are stressed by work. There is a golden mean to be found.
Pink Floyd is great at releaving stress of all kinds. Just sit back, close your eyes and let it wrap around you like a dream.

This is one of the few songs about finding an inspiration, setting it as a goal and pursuing it. It's one of my favorite songs for that reason.

i saw them in concert when this album was being toured...amazing....i am saddened to know that you may never get the chance to see them live...but im glad that you are "experiencing" Pink Floyd. i am 52..we didnt have you tube...or even internet when pink floyd came out. we had to wait decades for these songs to come out. you get the privilege of watching them back to back. enjoy it my friend.

First off, you give your honest impression of music and how it makes you feel and don't worry about those that say different. Sometimes there may be a generational gap, but experiencing and experimenting is what learning is all about. It's nearly impossible for me to pick one favorite PF song, but "Comfortably Numb" is the song that means the most to me. After listening to more songs, maybe pick the one that speaks to you the most.
Yes, this was a radio hit. They had many. They were too good for the mainstream to shy away, despite their unique style.
Another great reaction, man! You should try something from their most underappreciated album, 1972's Obscured By Clouds. It gets lost in the shuffle because it came out in between Meddle and Dark Side Of the Moon. The highlights for me are "Wots... Uh, the Deal?", "Mudmen", "Childhood's End", and "Stay". Hope to see you do one or all of these!
Older people grew up with the whole work hard and struggle your whole life and then if you make it to retirement you can relax paradigm and don't understand anything else. There's also an element of "if I had to do it that way then you have to do it that way" bs going on. It's a new frontier out there. Do your life your way, my friend, and too bad for the rigid and narrow minded folks out there.
David Gilmore said this song is about freedom (maybe being free from Roger Waters?) and also getting his pilot license and learning to fly.

so we had 'one' by Metallica at the time and we also had 'one' by U2 (which is great and u need to do definitely) we also had 'Learning To Fly' by pink floyd, but also 'Learning To Fly' by Tom Petty , but its another banger you need to do that too. same name songs , btw your next 'Tool song is 'Rosetta Stoned' lol you might be too new to tool for that but its a long song.

To be honest, I'm thinking more and more that it's a vocal minority along with Roger sycophants that rip at this album. Personally, I love it.
I loved this then, and I love it now. One of a few greats from this lineup, it was basically their first post-Waters song and Gilmour’s solos are very restrained ❤. I saw this live at Wembley Stadium one hot summer’s night in 1988.

Late '87, this song went great with moving to Florida from England. You should listen to Skyscraper - Dave Lee Roth. That must have been out late 87. Great year! Dave Lee Roth is a nice introduction to the great 1984 album. Great reactions!

The 3 minute(-ish) limit was when AM radio was the thing. When FM started getting going, the length of songs increased. Fewer commercials perhaps ? More discerning audience ? Hard to say... likely some of both.
And Floyd is the best.
Oh ya... in case you haven't figured it out yet (your journey through the World of Pink Floyd has just begun), one does not 'listen' to Floyd, you 'experiences' their music.

Most of the time, the best videos to watch of Pink Floyd, are the live ones. There's always a wee bit extra and well, let's be honest, it's their music that we're in love with, not necessarily the music videos.
Really enjoy your reactions. You seem crazy enough to be honest. There's two different Pink Floyd's. 70s and early 80s with the cerebral almost angry Roger Waters telling everyone what needed to be said. And the Pink Floyd of the 80s and 90s with David Gilmours soaring and weeping guitars at the forefront to his cryptic lyrics. I think Rogers Welcome to the Machine and David's Learning to Fly top each list in terms of stunning. David will make you love humanity. Roger will make you question humanity.
Mollyboy you have to listen to on the turning away by pink Floyd if you like learning to fly you will really love turning away.
...or, it's about freeing ones spirit by learning to free oneself from the cage of doubt. 👍

i agree with the "it has the 80's sound" statement....however, floyd, in the 70's was such an innovator with use of synths & digital delay effects, id say david gilmour had well earned his liscence to sound all "80's"....i think it wouldve been a natural step for pink floyd, much less a step than it seems to be at first listen to this song....id say the same of peter gabriel, for whom making the leap from the 70's to the 80's, was like a duck taking to water.
Why not be comfortable the easiest way possible that’s life 😊
Try some Rush dude. Start with The Spirit of Radio from 1979 or Something for Nothing from 1976. Really enjoying your reactions by the way.
Pink Floyd didn't release singles as a rule, in the UK. I think their distributors aimed singles at the US market.

At Pink Floyds 1994 Pulse Concert video at Earls Court, one of the final performances of their "The Division Bell" 1994 world tour,... they did an incredible version of "Learning To Fly".
A big part of the Pink Floyd Experience is their incredible light and laser shows, for this song they create an atmosphere of a small plane communicating with the tower at an airport, during a takeoff.
Pink Floyd drummer, Nick Mason had his pilot's license att, and David Gilmour was in the process of getting his when he wrote this song. They actually used Nick Masons voice as one of the voices you hear talking to the tower during a real takeoff of his Cessna.
While their studio work, production, is always top notch,... Pink Floyd are/were distinguished for their elaborate live performances, including the Light and Laser shows!
You should try to do some more Pulse Concert Performances.

🤯 Wow! 🤔 Something you said got me thinking in my old age. 😄 We didn't have Videos to go with Albums until way later 😒 when they finally invented the technology. 🤗 Plus we got to know where a song (Chapter) fit in the story (Book). 🤔 It's like listening to a song off The Who's Album 'Tommy' without hearing the song 'Tommy' first.
😒 Throw in a totally irrelevant Video and you end up enjoying the song while also going 🤷🏿♀️ who the heck is this Tommy dude?

This was from Pink Floyd's return album after their split with Roger Waters. This track is fun, but ultimately it's about the guys remaining in the band learning how to fly airplanes. :)

They never sold out and they remain the best band of all time. 350 million albums sold and you think they needed to try to customize a song to get it on the radio?
