Steel slide guitar that he jumped on after the acoustic and then back to acoustic for the last few notes that are just just exquisite in my opinion. Such a beautiful song recalling life when it was so young curious and carefree.

"They're not your average musicians". I couldn't have said it better myself because your right. The word average is not a word that can describe Pink Floyd in any sense. When it comes to music if you ask me Pink Floyd is in fact a genre all their own. Pink Floyd has built a legacy that will long out last them. I'm just glad to have been around when they were. They have become timeless.

One can only experience something for for the first time ONCE. We've been marveling to Pink Floyd for 50 years. but watching you do these reactions is almost as good as when we first saw and heard them. Enjoy your journey through the PF worlds yet to be visited....we certainly have (and still do). Pink Floyd don't just plug into their amps - they plug straight into your heart, mind and soul.

I can't describe how happy it makes me, seeing and watching you have your mind opened by music written 50+ years ago it was a time of a great human awakening changing how young people viewed the world, we at your age and younger no longer saw life as our parents did. They ask what happened, a question i'm still asking myself, chasing money, greed of music corporations, cheap three chord songs about boy meets girl, dumps girl, and ends in a dirge of never ending sorrow, it's on every radio every day and it ain't music! some of us still have High Hopes!

The steel guitar is mostly, famously used in Country music. David has a different approach to it. Check out The Great Gig In the Sky from the Pulse concert to see him play it again.

I was the one that requested this one. I told you David would be playing different instruments. The lap one is called a steel guitar 🎸 & he was using a slide. Nightwish does a cover of High Hopes it’s worth doing a reaction to it. 💯🔥

This is my favorite song ever (this version in particular), so when I heard that Nightwish covered it, I was SUPER skeptical. They made it their own, though, and absolutely did it justice.

I've said this before and I'll say it again - you don't listen to Pink Floyd, you experience them. Completely unique, no other band like them and I don't think there ever will be. You can't go wrong with anything from Pulse, I watched this concert everyday for 3 weeks and it's watching David Gilmour play that made me pick up guitar. Great reaction, keep them coming, fab to see younger people discovering Pink Floyd and enjoying their musical journey

This song is about becoming an adult and looking back on your youth, which is why he makes the guitar weep on the solo, makes me tear up when I hear it but in a good way 😎

  • @jonhenke1504
    @jonhenke1504 8 месяцев назад +7

I've said this before but I'm very glad you did the live version of the song first because when you do the studio version nobody ever realizes that David is playing a pedal steel guitar!! With the guitar solo at the end people assume he's just playing his guitar or a normal guitar!! And the look of surprise on your face when you noticed that pedal steel guitar it's always priceless when someone sees it for the first time!!
He plays the same instrument on an old song from Meddle "One of These Days" in the same concert! Always enjoy your reactions because you don't just like the beat you actually get it and have insight!!

Probably the most retrospective song in PF's repertoire. My absolute favorite. David's lap guitar solo brings me to tears. As an old man, I totally get the lyrics. The grass was greener. Thanks for the reaction.

The word you're looking for is atmosphere. No one sets an atmosphere like Pink Floyd. Soundtrack not to a movie, but to life itself.
The live Pulse version of this was the way to go. Better in this case than the studio. Another great reaction!! 👍👍
"Dogs" from Animals album a must.

As some have mentioned, David is playing a red Jedson lap steel guitar tuned to an open Em. He also plays it on "One Of These Days". Also, on this same tour he uses a blond Fender Deluxe lap steel for "The Great Gig In The Sky". You listened to "Shine On..." Parts 6-9, where David used a Fender 1000 Twin Neck pedal steel guitar. Find a video of "A Saucerful of Secrets", on their "Live At Pompeii". The 10 minute version. David uses a tone bar on his black strat. He also uses it at the very beginning of "Echoes".

@@tammyphxaz Oh. No. It´s still a lap steel guitar. A pedal steel guitar has actual pedals that let the player change the tuning on the fly. Here you can see a pedal steel guitar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedal_steel_guitar#/media/File:Pedals_steel_guitar_moderne.jpg
And the one that David plays it´s not a Fender. It´s a Jedson.

Bro, when you've got time you should check out David Gilmour and Richard Wrights' performance of "Echoes' Live at Gdansk, 2006. Wright, of course is the keyboardist of Pink Floyd, and also one of the four co-founders of the band in 1964.
It's not listed under Pink Floyd, because Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason did not perform that concert or that tour.
This particular performance of "Echoes" is particularly significant because it is likely the last time, Gilmour and Wright shared vocals on this iconic Floyd masterpiece. Wright died of cancer two years later in 2008.
One of Floyds most epic songs highlighted with a beautiful Gilmour/Wright harmony throughout the vocals. It was quite unique in that respect, and quite special for them and their fans.
They had said in an interview that they would switch who would sing the high part of the harmony, and who would sing the lower part, apparently whatever they felt at the time.
After Wrights death, Gilmour said he would never play the song again. Link below,...

That's a Steel guitar David Gilmour using, also called a Lap Steel guitar, Hawaiian guitar, and other names too. They're played as one would play a Slide guitar, using a circular metal or glass bar called a "Slide", to slide along the strings from note to note.
David Gilmour had at least two of them, a Jedson was one and I think the other was a Fender.

Pedal steel guitar - it sits flat on a stand, and enables the player to use a different group of techniques, some of which would usually be associated with autoharp or a dulcimer.
It’s long been a favorite of Country Music players, who take full advantage of its comfortable, keyboard-like position and a metal or ceramic handheld “slide” to bring out highly expressive, vocal-like phrasing (like Gilmore does here).

A steel guitar. Traditionally a country music instrument. Gilmore adapts the steel brilliantly for this tune.
The all time master of the steel guitar is Buddy Charlton. In fact Buddy was a master on the "peddle steel" guitar which is the same instrument but with foot peddles that change the pitch of certain strings! Amazing to watch and listen to!

Yes it's a pedal steel guitar, a type of slide guitar. He plays the same instrument on another Pulse track called "One of these days", which you should check out, especially as you like bass. It's a lap steel guitar, not a peddle steel. It's picked in the same way as a normal guitar but one uses a chromed steel bar to slide the notes.
Now. The backing vocalists can either make or break a concert and these ladies are exceptional.
The blonde lady (Sam Brown) really lets rip to the point where I have to do something to myself in private afterwards. 😂
So here's the next one for you that showcases these lovely ladies.
"The great gig in the sky".
Here's the link, so no excuses mate.😂
    Great channel dude. 👍

Hi MollyBoy. Whilst exploring the Pulse concert, you really should react to 'The Great Gig in the Sky', which is also from the Pulse concert, to hear a different side of Pink Floyd. You will not regret it.

Dave has a very wide vocal range. He’s also had lessons since he was just a lad in the 70s. Here, he’s standing straight and singing from the diaphragm, which puts a lot more power behind his voice. With his head raised as it is, rather than lowered, the air flows more easily over the lowermost (deeper-sounding) portions of his vocal cords.
Dave can sing baritone through tenor. I used to cover a lot of Pink Floyd songs in one of my bands, and I had trouble covering all of Dave’s range. My voice was suited most closely to singing the likes of the Doors; stretching up to hit the high parts in the chorus of “Comfortably Numb” used to require me to open my mouth incredibly wide in order to get the upper portion of my vocal folds to come together for those high notes.

The instrument he played at the end was a lap steel. I really love this song. It’s a song about remembering the innocence of youth. I’m an old fart; that means something to me now. Something hit me the other day, when I was listening to this song; in the very early days of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett was known for playing his Fender Esquire slide style, using his zippo lighter as a slide. It seems only appropriate, then, that in a song about the innocence of their youth, David should finish out the song with a slide guitar solo. I don’t know if he did that intentionally, or whether he just did it, because it fits, but I like to think it was another intentional tip of the hat to poor old Syd, who was a kindred spirit to me.
Either way, this song gets me in the feels, too. And, if we’re lucky, and we don’t all blow ourselves to hell, hopefully you’ll rediscover this tune when you’re my age as well. It’s a completely different song, 20 or 30 years from now.

Honestly, the best way to listen to Pink Floyd is with your eyes closed and headphones on. Just let the music take you away.

😏 Dude, you are soooooo ready for Rush reactions. 🤔 3 things you said make me believe that's true...
    1. You said "sometimes you have to just kick back & listen". That is so TRUE! 😒 Too many times folks out here trying to find "the beat" instead of realizing music is more than just "beats" 😂 and they tend to get lost the moment the 'beat' changes.
    2. You dig 🎸 Bass parts! 😲 Have you met Geddy Lee & Rush?!? 🤗 He's basically why my profile pic has me with a Fender Bass. 🫤 Also found out I truly suck at guitar & can't play chords, so there's that...
    3. ☺️ You 'get' Pink Floyd & the whole vibe. Rush, like PF, is it's own musical genre. 🤭 Benefits of being around for 4 decades. There will always be a decade of music that fans don't like, but they totally groove to the other 3 decades.
#TrueStory 🤩 First PF song I ever heard was on AM radio. 'See Emily Play' was playing and my grandmother would insert my name, instead of Emily. Fast forward 3 decades and 😄 I'm willingly using my Rent Money to see DG/PF at MSG. Same can be said for Queen, Rush, Bowie, Stones, Who, Zep & several other amazing bands. 🤷🏿‍♀️ 1 minute I doing homework to songs I like on AM radio, next I'm spending Rent money. 😂 Now I'm retired and spend time watching guys like you discover the same amazing music & bands! 🥰🐰
