Andre, David Gilmour regardless of his solo or PF guise, has always brought me to tears with his voice and playing whatever instrument, and I've being a floydian for 52 years. My wife has stage 4 terminal cancer and at night after I've tucked her in I spend an hour or 2 on youtube unwinding from the stresses of the day, and I always watch some Gilmour videos, and you and your lovely wife are favourites of mine. Your reactions and your emotional connection to David, his band, and the songs is utter perfection, and normal for all us floydians. Please don't stop showing us all this emotional connection you have. Cheers!

Whow! It's not the guitar that's special, it's the person who holds the guitar. I have never heard anyone so clearly express what makes Dave Gilmour's guitar playing move us all so emotionally. It is indeed because of the person who holds the guitar, and in this case it's the person we all know as David Gilmour that we get to experience whenever he plays. What an honour.

To explain about the Pink Floyd and David Gilmour versions. The song was originally written for the band to play and is on their second album after the three of them got back together. David, Nick and Richard. When this tour was going on, it was a solo David Gilmour tour but of course as well as his solo music he played so much Pink Floyd music too.

You are the sweetest couple! Andre, I can see from your reaction that you feel this song the same as I do. Weeping to beauty is not unmanly! I'm a gruff looking old guy, and I cry to music & other beautiful things all the time. It means you are a whole person, in touch with your feelings, it's good, don't feel embarrassed! I love this song so much, I want it to be a funeral song for me (not that I'll be around to hear it, lol), but even so, I listen to it sparingly because it is so melancholic and bittersweet, while being heart-achingly beautiful, that it does make me cry. So I save it for special moments when I can really savor it in peace. Here I am, teary-eyed as I type. There is nothing wrong with you or me, just take it in, let it wash through you, feel the emotions. That's why Gilmour wrote it! Shine On!

    Hello, Andrei and Dominika.
For the last couple of years I’ve been watching quite a few reactions to some of my favorite bands/singers, including my #1 PINK FLOYD /DAVID GILMOUR, and I have a selection of favourite reactors, too.
Andrei, you are right; This performance is INCREDIBLY EMOTIONAL. From the music, arrangement, visuals, mood (Bell), lyrics (nostalgia, life). It’s the last song from PF’s 1994 album The Division Bell, considered by many (me included) as the Last PF Studio Album. This Pompeii Concert is from 2015-2016. I remember seeing an interview with David Gilmour from this tour, and he said that this performance was in memory of PF’s keyboardist and longtime friend RICHARD WRIGHT, who passed away in 2008. The bassist is Guy Pratt (Richard Wright son in law) who joined the band back in the mid 80s when Roger Waters left, and has been with David ever since. To resume this performance in a few words, let’s say it’s the perfect medicine for the Emotional Constipation.
Ok. We got the part of the song done. Now to your reaction …
As I said before, I’ve been checking out quite a few reactions to PF, and yours are truly special. You guys express and show really well the exact reaction that PF brings out in us the receptors. PF/DG music is not just for listening, you don’t have a choice but to immerse yourself in the experience. David’s guitar really sings and takes us to a whole different plane where we can’t help but let out our most pure feelings and emotions.
So … Andrei … Please don’t hold back. Just let it all out and afterwards you’ll fell a sort of peace in your soul you can’t fully explain. Trust me! This guys LITERALLY helped me climb out of a deep depression a couple of years ago.
    Keep up the spirit!
    Sncerely,
    El Charlie
P.S. While we’re on this note, let me give you a couple of suggestions that are right up there with this performance:
    1) ECHOES (LIVE FROM GDANSK, 2006) David Gilmour said this is the Last time he was ever going to perform this song, as Keyboardist Richard Wright passed away a couple of years later, and the song wasn’t the same without him.
    2) A GREAT DAY FOR FREEDOM (From the same Gdansk tour). David’s guitar solo here is truly magical.
    Peace!

Regarding the confusion with Gilmour playing Pink Floyd music at his solos shows: David wrote and/or played the music on all but the very earliest Pink Floyd albums, so he has the freedom to play any of those songs at his solo shows. David has stated that when Richard Wright passed away in 2008, Pink Floyd essentially died as a band out of respect for Wright. He(David Gilmour) will never play another live performance under the name of Pink Floyd. His deep respect for Richard Wright is the same reason he won't play Echoes at any of his shows.
The bass player's name is Guy Pratt. He's essentially been the bass player for Pink Floyd since the departure of Roger Waters in the mid-80's, for David Gilmour, and even for Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets tour most recently.
If Dave were to go on tour with Nick Mason on drums, it would most likely be hyped up as a Pink Floyd tour...which generally means a new album needs to be recorded to support the tour, all the massive undertaking of lights, equipment, etc. that would be required to produce a concert of PF expected quality. There would likely have to be a multiple leg tour to Europe, USA, Canada, etc. with each leg having dozens of shows at different venues. None of these things are anything David Gilmour has any desire to be a part of from my understanding. With solo tours, he can put out a new album is he so chooses with material that he has created, choose the venue(s) to play, and choose his backing band members. I saw this tour when it was in the USA in 2016. The USA part of the tour only had FOUR venues. Compare that to the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour from 1987 which had 23 venues or the Division Bell tour (the tour from the Pulse show) in 1994 that had 35 different venues. I don't know for certain, but there might likely be record label legalities associated with a show billed by Pink Floyd.
Needless to say...if for some reason a news flash popped up that Pink Floyd's surviving members were going to put on one show on the moon and tickets were going to be $10,000 each, there would be droves of fans booking a flight on space shuttles.

You say that he sold some guitars and it's true. It is known that In 2019 he auctioned off 120 guitars, including the famous Black Strat and a selection of Fender Broadcasters, Esquires, Telecasters and Stratocasters for charity. In 2003, she sold his house in Little Venice and donated the proceeds of £3.6 million to the Crisis Foundation to help finance a housing project for the homeless, as well as supporting various charities. This may not be “Pink Floyd” in name, but it is the best version of this song. I’m a straight man but I have the biggest “man crush” on David Gilmour. He has a beautiful spirit that speaks to me like no other musician. And someone previously said in the comments which I completely agree with. The studio version, and the Pulse version, of this song were amazing but somehow I never felt like it ended in a satisfying way, for me. The acoustic outro completely finishes this song for me, which is why this the best version for me.

I wrote just the other day that I'd heard interviews with several musicians who had more or less come into contact with Gilmour, and they all talked about what a joy it was to work with him. In rehearsals, in concerts, on the road in his spare time. The truth is that Gilmour always chooses absolute professionals in their field and demands absolute discipline (meaning in the interpretation and arrangement of the music) in rehearsals and performances. The rehearsals are quite tough and demanding. Nevertheless, there is a tremendous sense of well-being and joy in the work.
As in the Pink Floyd era,Gilmour gives unprecedented space to backing vocalists in his solo projects, for which they are very grateful. I think I've written this before, too, but it always gives me immense pleasure to see the musicians often smile at each other during a concert, as if saying to each other from a distance, "Yeah, that was good." I like that.
I wish everyone a good time, and not just listening to more Pink Floyd - for example, Run Like Hell from this concert - another fantastic rock firecracker that closed the show. Great music and an unprecedented spectacle, with everyone on stage having to put on sunglasses - guess why and try...

Your reaction is indeed the cherry, love his heart, feel the same 😍
She is right, he can feel the good in the world...❣️How can a human being not be touched by this?
She also got it with her perception of the drummer:
The drummer once said, playing with David Gilmour each time is like winning the lottery, he cannot believe it and feels so hlessed, in the same way talked the other guitarist who played with many stars like Michael Jackson and thought this was it, but with pink Floyd and David Gilmour he gained another level, also the keyboarder, this gratitude, appreciation and joy of the band members is part of the spirit and love filled athmosphere ❤
    Yes, the beautifulness is undescribable😭🥰💚💜
I believe that all the Floydians have a form of higher heart body brain connection to the great connection, so you feel allways something special, with gets you out of this conditioned world...
Try Pink Floyds sauerful of secrets (live at Pompeii): the story telling from chaos to beauty (especially with Ricks spirit)😊

David has a library of his own songs he has written for his solo records but he is also a major composer of Pink Floyd music and hold the copyrights to perform them in both his solo concert tours and Pink Floyd shows. It is not a David Gilmour show without a few PF songs mixed in.

Thank you both for granting my request. And Andrei, your emotions only mean that you are a strong enough man to let them show. I cry every time I listen to this song. I'm 60 years old. I read in the comments suggestions that you should react to other versions of this song that are "better". Every version I have seen and listened to of this song including the album version are beautiful in there own way. The Gdansk version is second on my list with the orchestra behind them. But as mentioned by other seasoned Floydians......this acoustic ending coupled with the ambience of the whole setting just sets this one apart for me. And I agree with you Dominka.....as David ages he just becomes more amazing.

Great reaction to a great song from a great show. I do hope you get around to "Echoes" from Live from Gdansk, Richard Wright's last recorded live performance.

Love to you both really enjoy your reaction to Pink Floyd who i as a 74 yr old had similar reactions way back then. Floyd's music is as relevant now as was then and takes you on a soul journey. Namaste

Welcome to the Pink Floyd/David Gilmour family! Even after years of starting on the Floyd journey, I find my breath still catches in my throat and the tears well up. Goose bumps, palpitations and feelings of ascention mixed with raw indescribable emotion. Don't apologise for your honest reaction to something so beautiful. Enjoy the ride!

When this album was first released I took a trip to the Hawaiian Islands again. I had a Mustang convertible to drive and this album playing almost constantly. Though not really an island type of vibe it has become inextricably blended with the islands in my mind and still, decades later, brings forth those memories every time I play it.

It's true what you say, Gilmour is a rock GOD but the rest of the live band are INSANELY AWESOME as well. I hope you'll got back to watch the Live At Pompeii performance of Sorrow sometime, just watch the other band members during that, it's INCREDIBLE when you see just what a great time they're having.

Both of you mention often how its impossible to describe how beautiful the Gilmour/Pink Floyd experience is, but, I'll comment that the emotional effect this music has on both of you from time to time is exactly the "unspoken" voice of articulation that is so hard to find within yourself. If this music makes you emotional, you are non-verbally saying you aren't just being exposed to the music, but, you are feeling it all the way to the molecular level of your being. You're not just listening to the music, you are HEARING what it is saying.
I've been lucky enough to witness a PF show and several Gilmour and Roger Waters shows and at a few of those shows I witnessed people crying because the experience effected them in the same way it does you two sometimes. Rest assured, you're not alone when Gilmour tears you to shreds with his guitar. In fact, most of us that are life-long PF fans know exactly what you are saying.

Most music that we like makes us feel happy, fun sometimes sad. Pink Floyd makes you feel. Reflect deep into ourselves. Along with happy, fun and sad.

Here is a quick way to tell if you're looking at Pink Floyd or David Gilmour solo. Nick Mason is the drummer and a founding member of Pink Floyd. If you see him on drums you know it's a Pink Floyd concert since yes, David did take many of his Floyd backup extras on his 2006 tour, including Richard Wright (founding member) on keyboard. This video here is from 2016. Gilmour always includes plenty of songs from the Pink Floyd catalog on his solo tours since his vocals and guitar are so prominent on so many of their most famous songs. He knows what the people want.

    Love you two
You are spot on Dominika,...DG's later work has matured aesthetically - both in his vocal delivery and musical sensibility.
I hear he is working on a new solo album (probably his last) and I for one can't wait for its release. No doubt Romany (his daughter) will be an integral part of it.
Also Dominika - if there is a tour make sure Andrei gets to see him live.
