I first heard it when my dad (who's a big Floyd fan) got the album, I was 17 then and I liked the song, and didn't quite understand why both my parents were rather quiet and contemplative after hearing it for the first time. Now I'm 46, and while you can argue that doesn't make me old yet, this song sure hits home.

David Gilmour never wastes a note. Absolute genius and I've never heard anyone make the guitar cry the way Dave Gilmour does. That solo at the end is one of the sweetest ever.

Jeff Beck definitely in the same league as DG regarding ethereal guitar sound. Along with Hendrix these are my favourite three guitarists of all time. It's telling that Beck was actually considered as Syd's replacement before Dave. As they say, it all worked out for the best in the End.

"Echoes" showcases Wright's contribution brilliantly. I consider that to be Floyd at their absolute best. Amazing lyrics. Wright and Gilmour playing off of each other. The subtle percussion from Mason is a perfect accompaniment.

It’s haunting, because it’s in “minor”, or more precisely the “aeolian” mode. And the open fourths in the piano riff are also haunting. This is not coincidental, but genius song writing. And the haunting and relentless ringing of the division bell on the off-beat („4“) in the background that never fades and counts the time running by… Pure genius!
I've been a HUGE Pink Floyd fan for better than 35 years now thanks to my parents and Pink Floyd doesnt just move a person, they take you to an entirely different place. I will never get tired of hearing their music. MORE FLOYD PLEASE!!!!!!! You will become a huge fan and want more!

"Forever and ever" is the last phrase of the last song of Pink Floyd's latest album! I don't know how to put into words how emotional this makes me.
After many years they only made an album in honor of Richard.
David's mastery of the slide guitar is unmatched. "Sorrow" and "One of These Days" are two other great tracks featuring it. Floyd was DEEP. It's righteous to see a new generation appreciate the music. RIP Richard Wright (2008).

David Gilmore is one of those rare players that actually sings w/ his guitars.
If you’ve not heard or seen it, Sorrow from the same live recording is absolutely bananas. David’s climactic solo at the end is so fierce that he damned near melts his own face right off.
And his Stratocaster had to step outside for a cigarette afterwards 🔥🔥🔥

There's a hidden tone in all Pink Floyd songs that resonates at the exact frequency required to stimulate the tear ducts, even those in full grown men. Ahem.
The solo ALWAYS makes me cry. I can’t explain it, I don’t even want to know why it makes me feel so sad but with sadness it makes me feel extremely content. It’s the magic of David’s guitaring where each note feels like it was picked from the notebook of the music gods and placed in the right place for the right amount of time. It’s genius and I know that word is used for so many on numerous occasions but Gilmour deserves it.

This song was the final track on 1994's 'The Division Bell', which also was the last studio album they ever released. Extra reason to be melancholy.
Nighwish covered this song in about 2003 or so, with Marko doing all the vocals. You'll love it.
Not having time as an adult is a pretty universal thing. Right now, I'm on medical leave, after that car crash broke my ankle in June. So I've got nothing but time, but no money coming in, and I can't drive and can still barely walk. In another month or so, I should be back to work, with little time for anything else.
The Division Bell is not they last album
You're both right. Division Bell was the last studio album everyone in the band worked on together. After Richard Wright passed away, David Gilmour found some old recordings that Wright had made of unfinished concepts that weren't fully developed, recorded while they were working on Division Bell. He got the survivors of the band back together to finish the pieces and put together one last studio album: The Endless River. It's almost entirely instrumental, and it's phenomenal, but it really does feel like a farewell to Pink Floyd. Gilmour said after Wright passed -- and I'm paraphrasing here -- that Wright really was the soul of Floyd and without him, Floyd was done. The Endless River is technically Pink Floyd's last studio album, but it's really a farewell to Richard and to Floyd as a whole.
@@Kazatimbut it was. Endless River is a re-imagining of outtakes from the Division Bell, a eulogy or requiem to Richard Wright. I wish some of the stuff on Endless River had been incorporated into the Division Bell. But I can’t quite consider it as their last studio album.

This is one of the best examples of David not being one to be very verbose, but talks through his instrument. His solo at the end speaks so much that words can’t describe how many emotions are in it. The nostalgia for the past and being reminded of an easier time and eventually full of regret is so powerful. Even the masters of prog can have regrets speak volumes for how poignant the song is. So powerful
David Gilmour can do more with one note than most guitarists can do with full range.
This song is about the loss of childhood innocence, the passage of time. The gift of Floyd is space. The music gives you the space to think and reflect. It's balm to the soul.
I'm over twice your age and have been a fan for most of that time. Their lyrics are timeless but feel more and more relevant as the years fly by. Thank you for sharing this part of your journey into the music with us. I feel privileged and happy that my favourite bands' magic is being shared with younger generations.

The members of Pink Floyd onstage seem more like scientists in a laboratory, meticulously producing something extraordinary.
It is so incredibly satisfying to see someone your age hear Pink Floyd songs for the first time and be as moved as when I heard them for the first time so long ago. Some of their songs are 50 years old and yet they are still so relevant and moving to new generations of listeners. The 2 best concerts I have ever seen were the Dark Side of The Moon tour and the Wall tour. They had such a special gift and ability to reach right into your soul and pull those strings. You are proof of the timeless nature of their music. Thank You Peace

PLEASE do Sorrow next. That's like THE HOLY GRAIL of incredible live Floyd experiences, especially the remastered Pulse show performance. Gilmour just completely blows your mind with his guitar on that one, and the stage lightshow is INSANELY AWESOME.

This is one of the few songs that always make me emotional. It touches me in some very deep places. And the way it starts... a bell sound on off beat and then the piano comes in playing empty 5ths on C, Eb, Ab... genius!

This is the majesty of Pink Floyd. Most groups write “catchy tunes” and “silly love songs”,….but PF writes about “the real issues” and the “real things that matter.” That’s why you listen to PF with your heart, instead of your head. Zero to thirty-five seems like it took a long time coming ……. But…..35-70, was just a blink. The older you get, the quicker a year goes by. Don’t waste your youth waiting for a more convenient time, or a bigger bank account…….Those things never happen. Live in the moment, enjoy what you have, instead of pining for what you don’t have. Find someone who shares your values and go together. Life is easier with a partner…..two is better than one, provided “you are going in the same direction.”

I can tell ya, at sixty one years old and the direction I see the world heading in, this song hits me on another level. Pink Floyd says out loud what we all feel deep down inside, you just have to be willing to listen. We have burned many bridges behind us and the grass was indeed greener on the other side. After the great depression and last world war people cared about one another, there was unity and we prospered. that time is now gone and the divide widens, caring has been replaced by selfish, self - centred, greed. People don't think we anymore, they think me.
Oh Aileen, crying with Pink Floyd is quite natural, they speak to your emotions in a way no others can. Try listening "The great gig in the sky" for instance, a song about death, with an incredible vocalist inside, and few words spoken by the recording studio guardian only.
They touch on every emotion. This song sums up their journey from beginning to end!❤

Pink Floyd saved my life... I grew up in what we would call a broken home these days, and my situation could only be called abusive. This translated into my experiences at school as a tiny weak "weird kid" and I was at the edge of my endurance when I discovered Pink Floyd with their album "The Wall." I dove deep into Floyd after that and found echoes of all the pain I had ever felt before in their music, all the losses, all the hopes and dreams... Water's had an incredible gift with his lyrical ability, and Gilmore had an almost supernatural gift in his ability to express the subject matter with the music he played, never needing the lyrics... But these gifts they had made me feel connected to something: made my aloneness bearable because I found that I wasn't really alone..... Pink Floyd connects a world of damaged people who are willing to stand back and forgive, and give understanding to those who aggrieved them.
11:42 is just like transfer to another world. steel guitar solo has ended and You can hear how much music (strings, choir, etc, melodis) stood behind that solo. Those arrangement alone is so spectacular
A great reaction Aileen, this song is very nostalgic. The Pompeii and Gdańsk live versions finish with an acoustic solo too, which takes this beautiful song to another level in my opinion. I think you would love it.
Now, watch Nightwishes tribute to Pink Floyd, covering High Hopes, specifically, during the costume change by Tarja during her last concert, Marco belted this out with all the emotion they were feeling, knowing what they were going to do. Even David Gilmore was impressed enough to share it on his social media way back in 2005.

I watched the End of an Era concert when it was released and was blown away by their cover of High Hopes - and its truly one of my favourite songs from the whole concert. Marco nailed that performance.
Fantastic Reaction Aileen!. The only two Singers/Bands that really reach inside my very being and Massage my heart are Pink Floyd, Their lyrics are such a poetic representation of all our lives, They have the ability to make you step back and ponder lifes decisions!. David Gilmour is, to me, Someone who needs no lyrics! Just his ability on his Guitar can make you feel things you never expected to feel, to pull at your heart strings like a puppet master and leave you breathless at the end!. At that End is a new Beginning because his Music continues to resonate inside you for hours sometimes days.
Angelina Jordan is my other go to Artist for an Emotion Massage!. Many times she has had this 56 years young Rock Fan in Tears with her sublime tone and ability to re-imagine Classic Songs from days gone by!. She won Norways got Talent at 8 years old (entering at 7) and has close to 200 tracks on You Tube as well as Several Originals!. 17 now and has just released her first EP with Republic Records! You should check her out sometime dear.
My all time favourite band is Led Zeppelin but they make me feel things in a completely different way! Like Floyd and Angelina take me upto the clouds! Floating there with their surreal effervescent melodies! Led Zeppelin bring me back down to Earth with the Energy of a Nuclear Bomb. Keep up the fantastic reactions Aileen you absolutely got my Sub.

I think this song to me, is about the loss of innocence, the high hopes we had as children and as we age they feel so fleeting. This song always makes me sad inside longing for those times again. Also, the fly may symbolize the hopes decaying as we get older, like a fly flying around a corpse. I recommend checking out Pink Floyd- Echoes Part I (Live at Pompeii).

The bee at the beginning is a symbolism into an English summer day in Cambridge. For the Pink Floyd fans it's a nod to the song "Granchester Meadows", which they recorded 23 years earlier for Ummagumma. I guess it's another reference to time passing from a simpler era for them.

Hi Aileen, i love this song, in the intro, there is a bee, its of a country view. The song is about a simpler time. The steel guitar solo at the end is absolutely awesome. It gives me tingles, the emotion in Dave Gilmours playing.

The high notes on the piano are haunting. It also feels like there is a note missing from the sequence when played. It’s very reminiscent of one of their older songs “Fearless”. You should react to that one.

What a reaction. Pink Floyd's songs will do that to you. That cut you so deep it will have you going on a long rabbit hole and make you think and dream of all the good things in life or wish you could go back and relive all the things you did or wanted to do.

I think the birds tweeting and the fly or bee buzzing around at the beginning along with the church bell being struck in the distance is meant to represent a childhood summers day in england.....

This is one of my favourite PF tracks, due to the personal touch in the lyrics and the performance. I also think that the only band that has ever made this song justice apart from PF, is Nightwish. I think my favorite version of this was his 'live' acoustic & much more intimate ( with stings & backing choir...)from a few years later.

Great reaction to a great band and a great song . I have been to this concert, it’s was the best $70 I spent for 2 tickets in 1994. I got offered $1200 for the tickets outside and I told the guy no way … he said why that’s a lot of money and in cash… I told him because tonight I get to see a God like play the guitar…. After the concert in 1994 my wife and I stayed at the hotel in downtown Chicago for the night… and 9 months later my beautiful girl and only child was born. She’s 29 now… it’s funny that I have everything given to me that night… my favorite band of all time.
With The Pink Floyd, their gift is the ability to blend the music, vocals and lyrics into one big entity. The lyrics and the vocals aren't an afterthought, they're a part of the music, unlike most music made today.
