I don't think that David Gilmour was even aware that he was holding an instrument anymore, you can only play like this if it's as natural to you as breathing. It almost seems as if he was in a trance and was letting his soul pour out via his guitar. The technical mastery, the flow and the emotion are all on another level. I don't know if this is the best guitar solo there will ever be but in my opinion it's the best one to date.

Every instrument had it place, the drums taking the lead as the guitar dwarfed for several counts, a few times, the bass carrying the load from underneath, and the intermittent keys showing up to assist the guitar, meshed with the visuals, created a gloriousness not seen very often in our lives.

The genius of the guitar solo is NOT ONLY in its technicality.. but in its artistic expression... it COMPLETELY replaces the vocals/lyrics in order to communicate the struggle in this "comfortably numb" state with screams of anxiety and despair along with some glimmers of hope and clamoring for survival.... No Words just pure feelings...and that's why it is considered to by many the greatest solo ever

No, Nick Mason is not a flashy or exciting drummer but he perfectly fits the presentation for Pink Floyds music. His drumming is spectacularly understated while at the same time becoming an integral part of the performance. He makes the drums a key part of each song. They themselves become more than merely a means to keep time. They actually accent and highlight many places during each songs performance. The PF sound would be noticeably different with someone else behind the kit. His kit is put together to handle the various needs of their catalog.

Get to know the lyrics as a conversation between a doctor and a patient who is really in bad shape physically and mentally but also so far gone that he's numb. The lyrics are so expressive, so well sung, and then, AND THEN the guitar says things the words cannot, an extension of the words that's pure raw emotion but exactly in step with what the words said. This has to be one of the greatest songs ever written and performed.

This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and is my warm-up song every time I pick up my bass to practice. Those folks bought their tickets and were all excited, knowing that they were going to see a Pink Floyd concert and it was going to be a blast. The background of the song is very interesting. It was written by Roger Waters, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd though he had left the band by the time this version was recorded...it was about an experience he had while touring with the band and being treated for hepatitis. He was in a lot of pain right before a show; rather than cancel, they brought in a...less than entirely ethical doctor, who pumped him up with painkillers. He then performed the show feeling his body steadily going numb, feeling like his hands were swollen up like balloons. The music captures that dreamlike quality perfectly; absolutely amazing song, so glad you shared your reaction with us!

Pink Floyd is Legendary, they are a Vibe! I've been a Pink Floyd fan since the release of their iconic "Dark Side of the Moon" album in 1973, I was 17 years old. Pink Floyd was formed in London in 1964, they have sold over 400 million albums worldwide!
Pink Floyds music is trans-like, it takes the listener on a cerebral journey with every song. The Pink Floyd listener "feels" Pink Floyds' music as well as listening to it, and a big part of that is David Gilmours' vocals and his unequaled guitar style!
Not to even mention the incredible light and lazar shows that go into every live performance. I've seen them live twice, on two different world tours in the late 70s and in 1980, and both times it was nothing less than astonishing!
There are soooo many great Pink Floyd songs at this 1994 Pulse Concert at Earls Court in London, it would be a great way to start the Pink Floyd journey,... if you decide to go down the Pink Floyd Rabbit Hole. Lol.
At this 1994 concert, only 3 people onstage are Pink Floyd band members, they're the 3 older guys,.. David Gilmour, (lead vocals, guitar), Rick Wright, (vocals, keyboards), and Nick Mason, (drums, percussion). The rest of them are touring musicians, although some of them have been with Pink Floyd for a number of years.
If you DO decide to go down the Pink Floyd Rabbit hole, you're in for a phenomenal musical experience, unequaled by any other Rock band in history, imo.

I grew up with this but something I never noticed until now, seeing this live concert, is those strings!!! Are they violins? They are so subtle, maybe even subliminal but they constantly pulse throughout the entire song in the background. .. except for the guitar solos. I have to consciously listen for them but once I hear them, I'm entranced! They are hypnotic! They captivate you and lead you up to the solos whereby the guitar takes over. Now I've heard them, I can't unhear them! They build up, then die down, build up, then die down, build up and die down, like a pulse, all the way to the solos. I was never really this big on this song til now. Wow!!!! So many layers!
I've never heard anyone mention this. Does anyone else hear and feel this?

That is a true gem ... the pure core of Pinl Floyd. I liked it better than the late (post The Wall) live show era. The latter is like having a very tasty but incerdibly rich piece of cake and you start to struggle half way through ^^

Now do you want to experience 2 more hours of that same experience? Buy the concert Pink Floyd - Pulse from 1994 from which that was taken and own one of the greatest live masterpieces ever created. Every song has an almost spiritual experience they are so good. Thank me later.

What a great group to see in concert, and how blessed I’ve been to see Pink Floyd in concert 3 times! Aileen, I am so glad ur getting to know their music! I remember listening to Pink Floyd in High School! So that tells u how old I am, lol! But I think I grew up with the best music ever! And that’s what we did, go see everyone we cd in concert! In the 70’s and 80’s that’s all we did, listen to music, and go to concerts. I hv 1 son and 4 daughters. 13 g-children and they know all this music that ur getting to know! I’m so happy that this music didn’t get by you. Keep doing what u do and God Bless! Rock and Roll rules!

I’m retracing my every footstep to see this concert. I saw them at Earl Court in London 1994. It was magical. I’m glad you enjoy them.
