- This took me a LONG time to make and I was making alterations and updates to it up to the last minute so I really hope you all enjoy it and it helps some of you! I also want to give a special thanks to AbsolBlogsPokemon who made a video on Colosseum & XD hunting a few years ago that initially laid down some information for GameCube hunting. The GameCube hunting community has since learned a little bit more to where we thought it justified new videos.
I also want to give a thanks to “Im a blisy” for helping answer a few questions for me on the battle CD’s and battle simulators.
My bad on the Johto starters, I thought it was 1 per game but it’s one per Mt. Battle run, sorry for that!

4:25 Ayy, there's my Magcargo! Fun fact: I got so mad about it that I went to Leafgreen where slugma has a 100% encounter rate. That got me into shiny hunting, which I unfortunately don't have time for anymore, but at least I have a decent little colection. I don't know why anyone would want to hunt for a shiny you can't keep, but you do you.

Just as a quick note you can get all of the Johto starters on one save in Mt. Battle as long as you go through the gauntlet again.

You can get all three johto starters per save (you just have to beat the Mt Battle again from the beginning) ... or did you mean you can only get one to be shiny?

@@Doncut97 no i have XD and have done multiple 100 wins on MT. battle (mostly cus i wanted the earth ribbon on some on my pokemon) and you can get all 3 johto starts, you just have to beat all 100 trainers without ever changing anyone in your team in the break rooms

This blew my mind! Did NOT know that shadow pokemon were shiny locked in XD, i knew they weren't in Colosseum! These 2 are my all time favorite games, and Im playing save files on Dolphin right now,,, although I can not figure out how to remove the shiny lock on dolphin for XD !
It should be the same way! You alter the iso file all the same and then just play off that rom

Now that Johto starter one is the longest soft-reset in all of Pokémon, forget the starter resets in XY or SM.

Since shadows are locked, and the only way around it is to hex edit, wouldn't that make them technically illegal?
I wanted to have a shiny gardevoir ribbon master but having it technically be cheated feels a bit eh to me personally
Well there’s two different words that kinda get blended by the community.
Legal: if it’s allowed by the Pokémon company
Legitimate: if you didn’t use any sort of fowl play to get it
This is legal, as in it passes through bank and therefore Pokémon allows it (although I can’t guarantee this for all, but at least it worked on my Teddiursa). But it’s not legitimate because you do need to cheat to allow it to be shiny. Totally up to you if you’re okay with it for your Pokémon or not. But to me, it’s more about the challenge and having fun so I don’t mind it being illegitimate for my own :)

Hello! Great video! So one question more related to Colosseum. Does the fateful encounter only appear on Gale XD pokemons or does it appear on Colosseum as well? I tried to look up some information on the fateful encounters triggering square shinys but I wasn't sure if this also applies to Colosseum since Bulbapedia only lists Gale XD as having the fateful encounters. Thank you very much.

This is a really simple and effective video, it’s great! I was wondering though if there’s a delete save button for Gale of Darkness like other Pokémon games have on the menu
I would think so. If I’m not mistaken, all GC games have that option, but Pokémon ones just don’t have the copy save option
The Johto Starters arent 1 per save, theyre 1 per 100 battle run at Mt. Battle

Well there aren’t many locks nor removable ones in gen 2-3, but for gen 4&5 follow the link in the description of my gen 4 Celebi video

Any chance of getting this to work with PAL versions of the game? the offsets seem to be different as i cannot even search the same hex values (or the modified ones) as there are too many results.

@@shinycollector can't use a na rom on pal hardware (trust me, I've tried about 5 different na iso, both locked and unlocked), the image output is trippy, only playable if you enjoy seizures. :'v

I have a question, is it possible only for the USA version ? Because I have the EU version and when I check the line 219510 I don't have these hex value
So do you have any idea about how to unlock in the EU version ?
It’s probably different for different language versions, I’m not sure how to go about that as my friend only gave me directions for US copies. Sorry.
I don't know why but the offset if different for me i can find the longer code with ctrl f but the frist line of code is to short for me to find can anyone tell me the full line
I heard that in Colo when purifying a pokemon it re-rolls so a caught pokemon may become shiny of stop being shiny. Do these codes prevent this?
That’s never been the case. Just a false rumor
Two things:
1. According to Bulbapedia, you can clear Mt. Battle 3 times and get all 3 starters, one of each:

2. Since the information from the Zangoose or Nosepass is locked into place, why can't you encounter it shiny, defeat it, and find it again when you get your Snag Machine back? Wouldn't it still be shiny?

2. You don’t see it shiny until after you catch it and it always appears normal for your opponent first. So you’d have half hour checks each time and that’s if you’re matching wr speedrun times

Hi I'm a Mac user and I have my ISO of Gale of Darkness but I have used multiple Hex Editors and even using their search features I can't find the lines of code like "219510"
After editing the lines,i just boot the game like normally?

Hey shinycollector, I was wondering how you were able to do multiple XD hunts (like when you were hunting Dukings Pokémon). I know you’ll need multiple copies of the game, but how are you able to play them at the same time?
Wireless wavebird controllers and multiple gamecubes, if you have one wavebird controller and multiple receivers and have all the receivers set to the same channel, the one controller controls each gamecube
backintime so I only need one wavebird controller and multiple receivers? Do I need multiple TVs to connect the gamecubes to or do I plug them into the same TV?

You can’t remove lock on the disc, you need to alter the game’s code.
I don’t think you need to homebrew your GameCube, but I might be wrong. look into running ISO files on GC and see what you can find

I have a question about this because I'm planning to shiny hunt a shadow Scyther if XD gale of darkness shadow Pokemon are shiny lock and I need to unlock the shiny lock does the shadow shiny from that game count as legal pokemon once I transfer them up all the way to the switch or count as illegal shadow shiny?
My Teddiursa that I got from unlocking in XD transferred, so my guess would be yes, but I can’t say for certain that it works across the board for all of them.

Ngl i thought i found a shiny shadow growlithe but it just looks like normal growlithe in this game
So I have heard some comments in other forums that Shadow Lugia can be shiny hunted without the Shiny Unlock, is it true or completely false as I am trying to hunt for Shiny Lugia with just the gamecube and disc I have? Also would the shiny animation play by capturing Lugia, leaving a 5th spot open in your party, and switch it out during the second battle against Greevil?
Completely false. If you use the unlock I mention in this video, the best strategy would be to only have 1 Pokémon in your party, masterball the lugia, and then you’ll see if it’s shiny when you auto-throw it out on the second match.
Alternatively, there is a newer unlock where it’ll be shiny & sparkle when your opponent throws out the Pokémon. It would be much faster since you don’t need to worry about caring or the second battle at all. BeatingBros has that ISO linked in his XD shadow Ralts video, and that Ralts serves as a good guide as to how that unlock works! Here’s the link to that ruclips.net/video/u6a9l-py-lw/видео.html

@@willybellido4342 hold up, I almost forgot, there’s a way to remove lock but it would show as shiny when the opponent throws it out instead of when you catch it (catching it would retain shinyness). It could turn Teddiursa from about 3 minute reset to about 1.
Here is a video with a proof of concept, the unlocked ISO is in its description. This lock removal might actually also work for Togepi, but I’m not 100% sure

I am sorry I do not have discord and for some reason when I want to do the Shiny Remove Lock before playing the game I cannot insert the disc into the Wii I was wondering if I am doing something wrong with the game or something else.

Thanks to this video I have the shiny salamece, but with Dragonite I tried it for 6 days and it just didn't come out. I think it is not programmed into the game.
It’s 1/8192, it’ll typically take a lot longer than 6 days. Not having incredible luck doesn’t mean that it just doesn’t exist. If you keep going you’ll get it eventually. Congrats on Salamance!
I don't know about this shiny lock you're talking about. While I was playing XD Gale of Darkness as a kid, I had one long weekend where I played for 3-4 days straight and found a shiny growlithe in game that I caught. I'm almost positive that that was a shadow pokemon, and it was on a native copy of the game without modification. I forgot to save and lost it forever though. What would the odds have been for that?

@@shinycollector I wish I could say I knew how, but it happened. I couldn't get it to happen again; before this I didn't know they were supposedly shiny locked at all.
@@shinycollector I assure you, it's possible. There must be some undiscovered mechanic or glitch to release the shiny-lock on (that one or all) shadow-pokemon in-game that I would've had to have triggered, if they truly are. I wasn't soft-resetting or playing in any particular manner, I didn't even know about that method at the time; I hadn't saved in quite a while by that point, hence why I lost it.
Might be worth looking into for one of your videos, if I still had my copy of the game I would, but rebuying it seems to be out of the question considering it's current value. I wouldn't want to emulate it since I'd want it's legitimacy to be proven. It was a North-American release version, played on a standard GameCube. I did eventually transfer some pokemon over to my copy of sapphire I had at the time, but I didn't live in a great neighborhood growing up. The house we lived in back then was broken into back in 2005-06, and a lot of my games/consoles were destroyed or stolen.

So I’d like to point out that you *need* to hack your game to hunt that, you cannot under any circumstance do it legitimately.
However, there are ways to play roms on a GameCube, if you’d like to do it on actual hardware, I’d recommend looking into that if you’re interested.
Either way, you’ll need to alter an XD ISO (rom) to make it huntable

Isn't there a glitch where the zangoose can switch genders in the second, and catchable, encounter? Is that an indication of it being rerolled or is it simply the one value that changes
I’ve not heard of that glitch, I test caught it and all the stats lined up the exactly same so idk
Yes! It happens because Zangoose doesn't save its stats until it's sent out against your character specifically. Or at least, the very first time you see it early in the game. I can't remember if it's saved the second time you see it sent out (ie. when you see it used against NPCs, then immediately face off against it yourself).
This is unlike the Hitmontop in Colosseum, where it's consistent for the two consecutive battles (the first being against a NPC).

I have resetted so many times and still can't get shiny eevee.
It’s 1/8192 with a 2 minute reset. On average it’ll take you 273 hours to get it, if you don’t have bad luck

It is, as is Bonsly. Hence why you cannot battle or catch them here, they just make a cameo. Munchlax also appeared in the anime prior to gen 4

Shouldn't you put a disclaimer that removing the shiny lock makes the Pokemon hacked, even if Pokemon Bank/Home's terrible legality system allows them to go through?
No, obviously hacking the game to remove shiny lock makes those shiny-lock removed shinies not fully legitimate. Anyone would be able to infer that
@@shinycollector I would agree with that, but you still made a point to show that they can be transferred to Bank and Home, as well as noting the square sparkles when they are sent out in Gen 8.
Mrperson0 yes because that’s pertinent information that one would not otherwise know. I also did clearly state that we alter the games code. If someone has half a brain they would easily come to the conclusion that it’s not legitimate.
@@shinycollector Would hope that it would be clear to those when you state that, but as I said, I feel when you mentioned that they could be transferred all the way up to Gen 8 is where the issue begins since it seems you are trying to legitimize them.
Mrperson0 I’m not legitimizing them, but any time I do a less than legitimate hunt, and even on many legitimate hunts, people ask if they transfer. Most people don’t care if something is legit they just want to transfer.
Also I guarantee there’s maybe only 1 or 2 people that will actually use this, and they’re probably people I actually know.
