As a person who has been playing for over 300 days, I find this video interesting. Also I am free to play and actively recoiled when I saw the bonus biscuit give 4 friendship points instead of 3.
How has it been staying with the game f2p? I just got it, and I'm hoping it will be better than Pokemon Go, which I gave up on after a couple weeks bc I don't work/live near many pokestops and got sad abt not having pokeballs.
@@gchungus One good way to get Pokeballs for free is to just get max number of friends (you can find many online groups for Pokemon GO friend codes) and then opening max number of gifts every day. But you should also try to send gifts as much as possible because many players remove friends who only just open gifts but never sends them.
@@gchungusi play f2p and i like it well enough, but it’s very slow going. i basically only give out my bonus biscuit and maybe one poke biscuit per day so i’m only befriending pokemon every other night, and mainly catching basic pokemon/waiting for good skills to actually invest dream shards/candy into evolving, so it’s definitely a long-term sort of game. not so much something to do to kill time or keep yourself entertained on your phone. but also shiny pokemon aren’t infrequent (and you can max their friendship with just one biscuit) so i’ve liked being able to collect them - i’ve only been playing since the beginning of the year and i have around 7? though honestly i mainly get my pokemon collecting fix from GPX more than any official pokemon mobile game haha

I miss this game so much. I loved the aesthetic, the gameplay, collecting new mons... But falling asleep and waking up thinking about pokemon, cooking all three meals, it felt like pokemon was consuming my life. Sounds fun, but horrible for my mental health. I hope you keep having fun with it ❤️
Bro same, and it doesn't help the the load times for swapping menus, FREAKING MENUS, is so atrocious! Like, it could take 10 to 15 seconds just to check a single Pokemon's stats and get back to the game.
This is actually where I’m reaching. I’ve realized I’ve slowly crawled into obsessed and it’s affecting my mental health. I thought this app could give me a break from go but yeaaa no lol just gotta break break
honestly the sleep type thing feels like bologna. like they show me that graph every morning and i'm like, "buddy. i know for a fact i did not fall asleep in five minutes, and i know for a fact that i was not going between doze, snooze, and slumber like they're a roller coaster. i laid awake for an hour, passed out, and proceeded to sleep so deeply that the dead are jealous. where are you getting your data from." and yet somehow it still gives me slumbering 90% of the time anyways and i rarely see new pokemon. but like, what am i gonna do? minmax my sleep? i'm not that far gone. ... i'm gonna need that site for plugging pokemon info in though. that'd be useful.
I started “playing” not long after launch and I must say the micro transactions they push on this game are nuts. I have grown to ignore most micro transactional sections of games (because I’m frugal as fuck) and I can tell I’m stalling out or lagging behind friends that have paid for bonuses. I knew it was a slow burn game so I let it burn. I treated it as a “powered up sleep tracker” and nothing more. Coming to over 300 nights logged and I have gotten a lot, but man I’m behind my friends who played a similar amount. They have level 40+ Pokemon and I’m rocking 25-30s because I keep swapping my Pokemon for the Berries/Meals. At least I have my favorite Pokemon as a Shiny (Arcanine)!
I have paid twice the monthly pass and that's it. I've been playing since day one. And I can tell you I could totally had my pokemon team at level 50 like I have them now without having paid. You just need to focus on some pokemon and stop changing teams so much. Also have 50 active friends is a must
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who plays this game because I find it genuinely comforting and because it has actually helped me improve my sleep schedule. I have literally no interest in min-maxing, I just use what knowledge I have to pick the little guys I feel will work best. I make progress at a snail's pace which can be annoying, but I also don't feel like paying to advance quicker. It's definitely far more enjoyable than Pokemon Go, which was a constant source of stress when I played because I never had enough bag space or Pokemon storage, so it became less of a Pokemon game and more of a resource management game.
i was never aware that people minmaxed this game 😭 I collect my silly creatures, keep one of each and try to evolve the little ones :> that's it. to each their own tho, if you're having fun like this, I'm happy for you!
I mean, the aspect of collecting characters and then using resources to level those characters up to be more useful in the "main" gameplay, describes both idol games and Pokemon Sleep pretty well.
Pokemon sleep is what you get when you finally distill all gameplay from pokemon games and let us math nerds just enjoy the pure joy of min maxing the fk out of some pixels. Also, Raikou's Theme for greengrass somehow has BIG Digimon "brave heart" theme song vibes. It's something about the filter on the guitar i swear.
I mostly use Pokemon Sleep as a motivator to keep a consistent schedule. I have like a huge backlog of pokemon that I need to check the stats of but don’t care enough to lol. Completely f2p for me. I love it, totally agree with everything said here lol
Holy HECK, the way you casually mentioned min-maxing in this game at first (before going deeper into it later) threw me for a loop... ;u; I mean, more power to you and the Pokemon Sleepers, but geez, minmaxing the sleep game... In all seriousness, this was a pretty interesting look at how involved this game's progression can get!
you did not miss with this video! I've spent a lot of money on this game already compared to a lot of people probably, but the way I think about it is that it totally fixed my sleep schedule. I used to go to bed at 1 or 2 in the morning and then wake up tired the next day. Now that I set my bedtime at 10:30, I actually go to bed around that time and I'm able to start the next day earlier and less tired! I love spending hours thinking about which of 2 Charmanders I will choose to raise where the difference between them will probably be around 2% or less. This game is weird and I'm weird and I love it!
Listen. I am a diehard Pokemon fan with a unspecified sleep disorder. When this was announced I was FOAMING AT THE MOUTH excited for it. Over a year later, I still play it every day, and I’ve not spent a penny on it. Its the slow burn of it that makes me behave. A get rewards for going to bed at the same time everyday? I get to have something to do with my phone that isn’t doom scrolling first thing in the morning? Hell yeah. For me, the app have been more about sleep hygene more than the actual achivements or numbers themselves. Its way eaiser to pull myself away from whatever Im working on to go to bed at the proper time when I’m gonna get rewarded for it.
That one dancing Pikachu GIF that got greenscreened at 12:53 was something I made as a forum avatar back in maybe 2010 and it's wild to see it show up here. I'm pretty sure I captured the frames from the loading screen of PokéPark Wii on a really early version of Dolphin Emulator lol
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has had a absolutely messed up sleep schedule fixed slightly by not wanting to miss snorlax's daily reset at 4am. I've even gone a step further and set my bedtime to 2AM so that I can get those bonus diamonds from meeting my bedtime consistently during the week.
Played this game every night for about two months and I always mean to pick it back up. I just wish the morning sleep study went a little faster... like I'm cool with the meals throughout the day but sometimes I wake up and don't want to slowly tap pokémon again and again. but I loved the complexity, great video seeing it all broken down!
I think its partially worth noting, that since Sleep has a "sleep on time" mechanic for a daily log in, and weekly rewards, often you wont find yourself NEEDING to buy diamonds. I dont think ive ever bought diamonds, but then again im just a casual player
I've been playing daily since launch, if you don't play you have no idea of the rush you feel when you find a Berry Finding + Helping Bonus Pokemon. Plugging that bad boy into the rating website and seeing 99th or 100th percentile, that's what we play Pokemon Sleep for. Oh and to see cute Pokemon.
I downloaded this app when it came out in hopes of fixing my sleep, but beyond going to bed no later than 4am, it did not help. If anything it started making me feel even worse because my nightly 5-6 hours of sleep meant I was missing out on 25-37.5% of the experience points for my Pokémon. Starting every day with disappointment was not for me
I've played since Day 1, but haven't gone off the deep end with trying to min-max everything and I mostly enjoy the casual shiny hunting part of it. Compared to other gacha/mobile games I used to play like Mario Kart Tour, Pokemon Go, etc. I enjoy Sleep so much even as a mostly F2P player. The devs are so much more communicative and the free daily gifts and occasional gift box stuff has helped keep my spending to a minimum, definitely like less than 20 bucks and I've never felt bad about spending that money on the game because it genuinely helped me fix my years of horrendous sleep schedules. I feel like I get enough progress without the premium pass so I don't feel the pressure to buy it which is super nice too. It was lowkey the most impactful game on me in 2023 even with me playing both Zelda TotK and Mario Wonder lol
'Wasting time' really does come down to wether or not you enjoyed the time ay. I've had a lot of min maxers tell me I'm wasting my time playing games the way I like, while their approach seems like a waste to me. Time enjoyed is not time wasted at all. No one is better than anyone else based solely on how much time they spent on something. I play a lot of games with large populations of aggressively vocal/elitist minmaxers so I think about this a lot ahah. Really cool to see some number crunchers out there being helpful and chill!
I play with my faves: Umbreon, Shiny Espeon, Shiny Charizard, Typloshion and Venasaur and generally reach Master 12/13 at research level 50. Fun game, could go bananas min maxing but can't send my boys to box prison
My boys shiny charizard and shiny arcanine will forever be on my team if I can’t get enough favourite berries im sorry snorlax you will have to starve,,
That Entei mix is sweet,it's actually giving Sonic to me. Another property known for a specific type of "super" fan and good music. Love that. I personally opt out of both manic and casual levels of fan in both fandoms by choosing one aspect of each game in the franchises to be weird about. In pokemon, it's usually food and side quests, and in Sonic, it's chao and whatever the hell Tails is doing in any given game. I'm not good at math or speedruns, so one could say I didn't have a choice.😂 Great video!
idk man microtransactions are bad but like i think the fact that its genuinely gotten you to have a more healthy sleep schedule should be celebrated more???? you only threw in at the end how you used to stay up til sunrise often and this has helped reduce that?? thats so awesome, im proud of you
I played it for a bit when it came out and thought it was neat. But the absolute rabbithole of what the experience can be, holy moly This is kind of surreal, but really funny to watch
i downloaded pokemon sleep at launch bc i was super excited for the game to come out to the point that it was almost my personality for a time, slept 2 hours on the first night, and then uninstalled the next day after becoming immediately uninterested in the gameplay loop during the day
Watching this during a full moon and I absolutely cracked up at the good sleep day rant 😂 Also my favorite bg music so far was the Halloween event music! Lavender town but in chill and soothing? Very nice.

I would love to see you take a look at the cocoppa play community, cause that's the most predatory mobile game I've ever played, that continues to sucker me back in over and over again
im also still playing it since the playtest time, and as much as i respect the insane people doing the math for it, i still just go with what i think its better and its been working just fine, its fun and makes me happy to wake up in the morning and see a shiny pokemon!
He became the thing he swore to destroy. Also...none of that math looked all that complicated or unusual. I feel like you can find similar charts in a lot of games communities. Some people just like making charts and graphs.
Hey guys. I played this game *EVERY DAY* since launch day in the US. I have not missed a day, not purchased any micro-transactions, literally learned that you can time travel without being punished, and kept my same team regardless of the factors that go into leveling up Snorlax faster. I honestly don’t give a crap, lol.
At timestamp 5:55 - speed of help down is also bad for skill activation not just berries & ingredients. Skills have a chance of being activated every time a pokemon collects anything. Slower skill speed means slower activation rate.

i played pokemon sleep for four months and had to stop because i didn’t like having to do a job immediately in the morning (making breakfast and checking sleep reports) and also i found out i scream in my sleep through the recordings
My personal issue with Pokemon Sleep is (or was?) that it punishes me for my sleeping habits. Not only it doesn't like when you don't go to sleep on time, it also hates if you go to sleep near 1-2 am, because it can randomly decide that your night of sleeping starts in current or next day, leading to stuff like double counting your sleep one day (which easily maxes out your already almost maxed out daily exp, wasting so much of it and then pretty much leaving you with a day you won't get anything unless you'll idle your phone for few hours).
Microtransactions are shitty and manipulative, but I will say I've been playing since launch and have never felt the need to buy anything. Especially since the free gift gives diamonds so frequently. If you're a responsible adult don't worry that you'll hit a paywall at some point. You'll progress more slowly than those who pay, but honestly, it feels more like the intended way to play. This is a slow burn game.

The only thing I really care about is not using pokemon that recover more energy because it's the most useless boost you can get assuming you actually want to sleep properly. Other than that I just eyeball what looks good, use my intuition and focus on getting the candy for pokemon I like. I think I'm doing okay.
You’re redarded. It’s so easy.

As a person who has been playing for over 300 days, I find this video interesting. Also I am free to play and actively recoiled when I saw the bonus biscuit give 4 friendship points instead of 3.
I was surprised when I first saw that lol
Didn't realize it was set to do that with premium until now.
Bro came back to this channel after 7 months to talk about his sleeping schedule, bro's a madman
He grinded Pokemon Sleep for 7 months
Dude this man came onto my feed after years and it's this 😂
Yakko, slowly blink three times if green snorlax is appearing in your dreams, or nightmares.

People do not realize how absurdly deep mobile games get. The number of hours I spent on discord with people trying to squeeze an extra 5% out of a team is beyond count.
:/
How dare you, sir. I had no idea about all of this. I have been trying to stay casual (326 days and counting), but now I NEED to see how my team stacks up. This is not going to end well for me.
i literally busted out laughing at the confetti for "it's about eugenics" dude you're not wrong lmao
They didn't have to make such great music for Pokémon sleep but I am grateful for it
The raikou event music was fire
Fun fact the motif that they added for Raikou and Entei is actually the Ecruteak City theme.
@@AaelmfaoBDplays i came to the comments for this haha because i may not know anything beyond what this video told me about pokemon sleep but i know my pokemon gold and silver
@MiMi-qb6tk yeah I actually really love that song to relax to but pokemon sleep kinda went hard with it
I miss this game so much.
After playing genshin, spending like 20-30 mins per day doing that is nothing. And I the morning I play while I get ready for work
This is actually where I’m reaching. I’ve realized I’ve slowly crawled into obsessed and it’s affecting my mental health. I thought this app could give me a break from go but yeaaa no lol just gotta break break
honestly the sleep type thing feels like bologna. like they show me that graph every morning and i'm like, "buddy. i know for a fact i did not fall asleep in five minutes, and i know for a fact that i was not going between doze, snooze, and slumber like they're a roller coaster. i laid awake for an hour, passed out, and proceeded to sleep so deeply that the dead are jealous. where are you getting your data from." and yet somehow it still gives me slumbering 90% of the time anyways and i rarely see new pokemon. but like, what am i gonna do? minmax my sleep? i'm not that far gone.
... i'm gonna need that site for plugging pokemon info in though. that'd be useful.
i mean… i do agree their sleep data feels pretty bullshit, but do you not have rem cycles? your sleep chart SHOULD look something vaguely like that
That’s actually how your sleep cycle works.
Also have 50 active friends is a must
Arcanine best pokemon
Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who plays this game because I find it genuinely comforting and because it has actually helped me improve my sleep schedule. I have literally no interest in min-maxing, I just use what knowledge I have to pick the little guys I feel will work best. I make progress at a snail's pace which can be annoying, but I also don't feel like paying to advance quicker.
It's definitely far more enjoyable than Pokemon Go, which was a constant source of stress when I played because I never had enough bag space or Pokemon storage, so it became less of a Pokemon game and more of a resource management game.
I still PoGo daily but I refer to it as Pokemon FoMo 😂
Pokémon sleep was so mechanically complicated I was blown away
i was never aware that people minmaxed this game 😭 I collect my silly creatures, keep one of each and try to evolve the little ones :> that's it. to each their own tho, if you're having fun like this, I'm happy for you!
This is exactly the amount of depraved I expect from Pokemon
0:05 I spent a good 20 seconds wondering how pokemon sleep could be construed as an idol progression game like Love Live
Idle*
@@TRDiscordiandude
I mean, the aspect of collecting characters and then using resources to level those characters up to be more useful in the "main" gameplay, describes both idol games and Pokemon Sleep pretty well.
Pokemon sleep is what you get when you finally distill all gameplay from pokemon games and let us math nerds just enjoy the pure joy of min maxing the fk out of some pixels.
Also, Raikou's Theme for greengrass somehow has BIG Digimon "brave heart" theme song vibes. It's something about the filter on the guitar i swear.

What.
This game is weird and I'm weird and I love it!
me too
I had no idea there was such an involved community around this game. I just enjoy tracking my sleep & feeding my lil guy when I remember to use it.
The music for the Halloween event was my fav, legit put that thing in my daily playlist it's so good
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has had a absolutely messed up sleep schedule fixed slightly by not wanting to miss snorlax's daily reset at 4am.
This was the exact video I wanted to watch about Pokémon sleep. Thank you for popping the bubble in my head that it was gonna be a cute easy game
As a player who is invested in Pokemon sleep since night 1, this video is awesome!!!!
I think its partially worth noting, that since Sleep has a "sleep on time" mechanic for a daily log in, and weekly rewards, often you wont find yourself NEEDING to buy diamonds. I dont think ive ever bought diamonds, but then again im just a casual player
I got freaked out and quit over the noises made while I’m asleep. I live alone, and that’s not my voice.
They were called "GameFreak" for a reason.
Starting every day with disappointment was not for me
It keeps me from playing my phone when I can't sleep and I am forced to do other things. I guess that helps my pain induced insomnia? I guess?
This would have been a great segway for a sleep mattress add! lol
the fuck other kind of mattress is there jordan
Genuinely did not expect it to have any depth at all lol
I play with my faves: Umbreon, Shiny Espeon, Shiny Charizard, Typloshion and Venasaur and generally reach Master 12/13 at research level 50.
Fun game, could go bananas min maxing but can't send my boys to box prison
My boys shiny charizard and shiny arcanine will forever be on my team if I can’t get enough favourite berries im sorry snorlax you will have to starve,,
Yes, I can't let my good boy shiny Arcinine away unless its for my all-electric gang that is half shinies
i have a shiny sylveon with trash skills but i use him anyway because like… how am i supposed to get handed such a neat looking shiny only to box it 😭
Wow those are crazy spreadsheets and dedication. Props to you for getting through
Nintendo has learned that if you gameify any mundane task people will get addicted to
That Entei mix is sweet,it's actually giving Sonic to me.
I'm not good at math or speedruns, so one could say I didn't have a choice.😂
Great video!
idk man microtransactions are bad but like i think the fact that its genuinely gotten you to have a more healthy sleep schedule should be celebrated more???? you only threw in at the end how you used to stay up til sunrise often and this has helped reduce that?? thats so awesome, im proud of you
Never having played pokemon sleep and hearing you talk about it makes me think if that's how i sound to my no pokemon-fans friends
If we ever get an Island that has Dragon Berry snorlax my 2 Altarias with Berry Finder S will make it big (probably)
A bit late to warn me when I'm 315 days into the game and just as susceptible to the propaganda, but this is a good and honest video on the game!
I played it for a bit when it came out and thought it was neat. But the absolute rabbithole of what the experience can be, holy moly
This is kind of surreal, but really funny to watch
i downloaded pokemon sleep at launch bc i was super excited for the game to come out to the point that it was almost my personality for a time, slept 2 hours on the first night, and then uninstalled the next day after becoming immediately uninterested in the gameplay loop during the day
you know it will be a good day when you get a pokemon with berry finding or helping bonus in the morning B)
Ironically, it kinda motivates me to sleep on time.
But I will obsess over it if I wake up too early and can't fall back to sleep.

Pokémon sleep is like a modern day tomagachi
I get mad that the day turns over the exact minute I've went to bed for decade at least once a week
Pokemon Sleep actually got me to wake up at a reasonable time consistently, and go to bed somewhat consistently.

im also still playing it since the playtest time, and as much as i respect the insane people doing the math for it, i still just go with what i think its better and its been working just fine, its fun and makes me happy to wake up in the morning and see a shiny pokemon!
He became the thing he swore to destroy.
Also...none of that math looked all that complicated or unusual. I feel like you can find similar charts in a lot of games communities. Some people just like making charts and graphs.
Can I just have this as a Pokemon sleep tracker and forget about the min maxxing?
You don't have to min max :0) just enjoy the sleep trackers aspect. Have fun

Deranged math nerd here, yes your video is very accurate. I am a tryhard with great calculations, efficiency, and stats
I am screening content before my child is allowed to watch this channel. Its been a journey learning anything more than the 150. You seem like a solid dude unlike those minecraft pdf's. Keep it up champ!
the fact that pokemon sleep often died on me in the middle of the night, thus losing my alarm clock, is ... embarassing
this is the most random yet detailed video ive seen all year and i'm here for it
i played pokemon sleep for four months and had to stop because i didn’t like having to do a job immediately in the morning (making breakfast and checking sleep reports) and also i found out i scream in my sleep through the recordings

Just downloaded Pokémon sleep yesterday and I’m so happy to hear I get to overthink about it too!
This was great. I appreciate the video on such a unique subject.
I just catch shinies in my sleep, I don't care about all the stats and such XD
Same lol. But when I encounter a shiny, even one I already have, my mind go “Mine!” 😂
This is a slow burn game.
fr pokemon's innovating something nasty bro, the only game where people sleeping on it is ACTUALLY good thing
