To this day i have never met a person who wanted the "future" these companys sell. like maybe tech bros?? idk i dont really want to be eating refrigerated foods and dressing with virtual sneaker dresses.
I don’t support any of this, but I have to wonder if that mirror or their app viewer would even work for someone like me who’s in a wheelchair. I tried that perfect fit company thing’s measuring tool a while back, where it claims to tailor to your exact measurements, and it just could NOT find me as a human being in the camera. Fashion companies very rarely consider disabled people for their physical clothing as it is, and I’ve noticed a lot of these digital tools and customized styling things online that simply don’t work for us at all. If this company-whether I like them or not-claims to be all about individuality and self expression, then I would hope that they’re keeping these things in mind, but I doubt it. :p
companies don’t understand that just because everyone is chronically online doesn’t mean they actually WANT to live on the internet. nobody wants to go grocery shopping in the metaverse, nobody wants to live in vr, and I HIGHLY doubt that anybody wants to wear digital clothes. most people actually want to go outside and have fun with other human beings, we just happen to all live on our phones because of companies like these that think that’s what people want. a future where everyone stays inside and only ever does things online, never having to go outside ever again, sounds like the opposite of an ideal future.

Reenacting "The King Has No Robes" story by nobody in the Zoom meeting speaking up about the CEO's digital clothes glitched and vanished, and he wasn't wearing any clothes irl
I'm interested in the claim that over half of GenZ/Millenials think online presentation is more important than IRL. They don't cite any source for this claim, and later in the same blog post reference a separate survey that they at least credit an institution for. I am inclined to believe this is a total fabrication as they have delivarately made it essentially impossible to fact-check. If anyone has more info about this claim, I'd love to see it.
There's also the fact that "presentation" can mean multiple things. I have a feeling that the people who consider the internet more important are thinking about how you present your personality, not your clothing options.
I'm thinking that they're thinking about the whole "the internet is forever" aspect - if you mess up your irl presentation (actions, clothes, words) one day people will forget it tomorrow, but if you do that online it does not go away.
Overall it would be nice if instead of fake clothes that need an acre of rainforest worth of living matter being burnt to run for 5 minutes companies invested in like, actual affordable low environmental impact clothing that lasts more than one month and isn't produced in evil ways Also I love how they brag about being able to generate new clothes that, don't actually exist Like, at the very minimum if you are asking me to fit digital clothes I would appreciate if I could find those actual clothes

The accessibility thing gets to me because, as it stands, people with certain disabilities can't access the "metaverse". Like sure this is just some rose-tinted imagining of what the future could be, but I (a blind person) cannot take that claim seriously. At all.
in tech bros ideal future, disabled people just won't exist. They get a little flighty when you press them on how the disabled people get removed from the population
@@Romanticoutlawthe digital gap is already really bad in poorer and rural areas where there isn’t good internet and as society gets more and more online those who can’t afford computers or are homeless get left behind. Accessible packaging is also rare for technology and it’s usually only accessories which are labelled for the disabled which are accessible despite the fact that these products require the main systems themselves to run which also should be accessible so disabled people can feel more independent
The next stage of nööetics based technology is looking to advance technology access for the blind. The current big issue is that blindness is a massive spectrum.

It's really sad that there's a kernel of a real, useful feature - in trying existing clothes before buying them - but it's buried between a mountain of tacky tech bro bullshit slash money laundering. Side note: all the 2D graphics on their site are beyond atrocious and even a total layperson with access to a simple tool like Canva could whip up something better, but I guess this is what happens when you pick AI over real artists.
"Digital fashion company that partners with big brands" sounds like it should be focused on like...making branded clothes for vtubers, not weird expensive offbrand snapchat filters
4:48 Not a great implementation or anything, but I think a tie-dye shirt where the patterns moved around slowly would be fucking sick. But I'd want like, a real one.
I'm studying to be a computer science major. AI isn't the magical future people think it is. It's just like polymer science or quantum mechanics, where people saw them and basically saw them as a magic that could do anything. The only difference is that AI is actually widely accessible and so many people that aren't, in the nicest way possible, intelligent enough think that AI can magic anything they want. AI cannot make anything original, there's going to be a certain point when what I've heard funnily called "AI inbreeding" where ugly AI images will be scanned by AI, creating a cycle of AI "content" creating by looking at other AI content. AI can be great, I've used it as a great study tool and to bounce ideas off of, but using it to steal artists work and thinking that makes you an innovator will not end well because people that do that aren't actually smart enough to realize that it takes an actual person to make ideas. AIs can't generate new ideas. It's like a calculator, a calculator is a great tool but if an idiot is handling it they're not going to be able to solve complex math because they don't and have never tried to understand the fundamentals behind that math. All these tech bros know nothing about AI and these businesses ventures will always fail. Thanks for listening to my ted talk lol.
Back in early 2020, just pre pandemic i believe (whenever it was, nfts were still a VERY new thing), i was in highschool, and for our economics class we had an angel investor come in and talk to us one day, one of the companies he talked about was one exactly like this but exclusively based around nfts. The idea was there was a limited amount of digital clothing and should you chose to buy it you were one of (for example) 10 owners of this specific piece of clothing. They hadn't really established a "what do you gain from buying them" yet, and i have no idea if they ever did. But the funniest part of that whole experience was watching a 50-something man, explain nfts (badly as it turns out) to highschoolers, then promptly getting respectfully dragged by us not seeing any value in it. By the end of it i think he was rethinking his investment. I wish i could remember his or the company's name to see what happend to it.
I love your oulfit in this video !! for some reason, it reminds me of being a kid and that one boy you would meet on a summer holiday in the 2000s, he goes there every year with his family so he acts like he owns the place. Orange reflective sunglasses, chewing gum wearing a shark tooth necklace whilst he rides around on his spiderman bike.
I can see potential in this! It could make a great tool for online clothing shops so customers can try out how clothes look on them without having to buy then, especially useful for more eccentric or extravagant/avant-garde clothing, as is much of the clothes we see here, or for fashion designers to see how their envisioned design would work in the real world(or as close as possible to it). This is not that. This is shit. Feces, even.
If they can perfect the technology to track and fit better, they might be able to cut down on the waste from people buying a bunch of sizes online and then returning the sizes that don't fit. (EDIT: But honestly, they'd probably save power if they did what some custom shirts sites I've seen do. They have pictures of different models with different body types wearing the different styles, and it's pretty easy to extrapolate how they might look on me from that.)
It would be very interesting to see if their _race changing_ VR filter could make me Hispanic enough not only to be attractive to Hispanic men (Which I have a serious weakness for) but also Hispanic enough for me to qualify for a Spanish passport and not the Brexitty blue one I'm currently stuck with?... 🇬🇧💱🇪🇸🤔
Swell entertainement said it best in her CES video when she talked about how companies are investing and making big plans for the meta verse and ai stuff but there's no customers lined up. They talk about making money but their only planning is putting it on sale. Okay? Who the fuck is gonna buy that???
It gets pumped up and sold over and over by venture capitalists until investors eventually stop investing into the obvious ponzi scheme that isn't making anything in returns and the last group holding it has to scrap what's left to make some of their buy-in back.

"where it claims to tailor to your exact measurements, and it just could NOT find me as a human being in the camera." Sorry to hear that.
companies don’t understand that just because everyone is chronically online doesn’t mean they actually WANT to live on the internet. nobody wants to go grocery shopping in the metaverse, nobody wants to live in vr, and I HIGHLY doubt that anybody wants to wear digital clothes. most people actually want to go outside and have fun with other human beings, we just happen to all live on our phones because of companies like these that think that’s what people want. a future where everyone stays inside and only ever does things online, never having to go outside ever again, sounds like the opposite of an ideal future.

Swell entertainement said it best in her CES video when she talked about how companies are investing and making big plans for the meta verse and ai stuff but there's no customers lined up. They talk about making money but their only planning is putting it on sale. Okay? Who the fuck is gonna buy that???
