She taught my 2 kids( twins) last year, so I'm in that situation, explaining to 2 kids.
When I was in college, there was a girl whose father had passed away while we were students. She used to go out at night, dressed in only a nightgown, and walk down a long dark road behind the campus to an old cemetery. She was going there crying and trying to talk to her deceased father. Her father was not buried there or even in that state, but the student thought she needed to be in a cemetery to commune with her father's spirit. Fortunately, other students saw her leaving at night or motorists on the road saw her. These people called campus security who went looking for her. Sometimes they were able to get to her while she was still on the road. Other times, she was found in the cemetery, kneeling and crying amongst the tombstones. Thank God no one ever hurt her. She was eventually sent home to recover from her grief and later returned well. As a woman, or even a man, be careful putting yourself in situations where you can become vulnerable to danger. There are plenty of evil people looking for the opportunity to harm someone.

In our good ole America, the only way to prevent yourself from being murdered by a stranger is by barricading yourself in your home 24/7. Random shooters appear anytime anywhere and it doesn't seem like it is going to change any time soon.
Thanks for sharing her story. The things she was doing was not good! Walking in the dark, down a long dark road, to a cemetery, at night, could have very easily cost her life! She was grieving over the loss of her father, and did not care about anything, at the time. I am glad nothing bad happened to her. Glad she left college, got the help she needed to grieve. Glad she was able to go back to the college, and graduate!
It's unsafe nowadays to be out walking, jogging, or anything in the day time. I don't be out at night or early in the morning in the dark doing anything. People, especially women, keep things with you to protect yourself! Be aware of weird, strange stalkers, people in vehicles, and around at the parks, at the stores, where you are. (Walking, jogging, in wooded area trails are very unsafe!) I never walk in those. Unbelievable!

Most of us spend hundreds if not thousands on supplies and work long hours. It's not a secure lifestyle, especially if we are single.

I live in the area, and it was obvious from the number of photos on posters everywhere that this teacher was *truly* beloved and is deeply missed. Her beautiful face has been everywhere, and she looked both sweet and elegant in every picture.
I knew this wasn't likely to end well- responsible, established and caring people don't suddenly abandon their lives- but the fact that this is finding any resolution is such a good, rare thing. (I never heard of a resolution to a few other local missing persons cases; one kidnapping victim, a little girl in the DC region, was never found, and the suspect in her kidnapping has since died.)
Horrible things happen, and this is when police can really be helpful and serve the community of which they are a part.
Condolences to anyone who was lucky/blessed enough to have known this lady, as it seems she was truly great.

I’ve seen many press conferences and media releases where the leadership thank their subordinates for their hard work. We all get paid to do our jobs but that doesn’t mean it’s not ok to validate the work of your team no matter the task. I think you’re grasping at straws with this argument. We all know there are plenty of things criticize when it comes to law enforcement but this is kind of weak. On a side note most first responders don’t go looking for a pat on the back and I’m sure most won’t lose sleep over your unwillingness to validate their efforts. What you saw is what leadership in all professions do when the camera is pointing at them. They call it public relations. Seems like you take the servant in public servant a little too literal.
I'd like to buy those detectives a coffee. Their work is something to appreciate and acknowledge. I couldn't do the job they do; and they do it so well. God is on their side.
We need to do better with when we see or hear something, we say or stand up and do something. Then forgot about it briefly until I was walking into an apartment building delivering food for UberEats and I saw her “Missing” flyer on the front door with her name and picture on it. And the flyer reminded me that she was missing. And so I thought, “oh no, she still hasn’t been found”. So right then and there, I felt very discouraged that she would ever be found alive.
