This is the most succint video I've seen regarding this, particularly because you explain how to change the shutter speed in video mode. I was changing to manual picture mode thinking it changed the shutter speed across the board, then switching back. Thanks for explaining!
5 years later, this is still a really great video. I was gifted a brand new DSLR (Canon EOS 2000D) by my family, and I have no idea what I'm doing - this video changed that. I was shooting YT videos on my Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus, and I'm excited to step up my game!
I press my first DSLR and as I am trying to watch videos to understand everything, this is by far the best explained one so thank you so much. You’ve earned a subscribe. I will be looking forward to watching your other videos!
Im just getting into photos and videos, and this was a great help setting up my Canon eos 4000D. A few people wanted me to sot clip and reels, and this will help a lot.
This video was so helpful! Just as simple as knowing to hold down the AV button finally got me the effect I want. THANK YOU for being so clear and concise.
Thanks a lot... All these years i used to shoot in Standard mode. Which it gave me no control over editing the footage... All these days, I thought it was camera problem... Now I'm ready to create awesome cinematic videos... Thanks a lot.
Thanks for explaining everything concisely. Too many how-to videos for this are too technical or go off on tangents to add to runtime, so this video is much appreciated.
Thank you so much for this video. I am just starting photography and wanting to film some shots at an orphange I once helped at. I'm hoping with these new settings, I'll be able to provide them with a decent video! :D
So thorough and well explained. I had no problems understanding everything and your video tutorial on how to install Cinestyle was easy to follow too! You deserve more subscribers!!
Absolutely the best video on YT about DSLR settings for video makers. So concise and beautifully edited. You've helped me a lot! Thank you! Greetings from Croatia
Mate I’m in Australia been a canon film and now digital but never took video till starting now this helped me heaps. As very straight forward for good looking stuff. Love my photography but thought hey time to get the most out of these babies. As I’ve only just been game enough to use light room more than a quick check that the light setting was ok when was at say a race or surfing. Yet I notice all these fantastic colour set exposed shots. Which drops of water that reflect perfectly. So a good friend sat down said yes your old school soldier then a photographer. But that’s the way now. As long as you Shoot a good Shoot and get it right don’t be afraid to give it a touch. As it’s not cheating as long as you don’t go spending hrs on a photo that should have not been displayed anyway. So this was a great bonus to stumble on. Cheers 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Concise and to the point......appreciate your efforts. Making RUclips Videos require a ton of research and your video comes as super handy. Best Wishes.....keep making good content.
Thanks! Really concise video cuts through the hype, explains general tips for all brands with detailed setup for Canon cameras. Providing tips I've not seen elsewhere.
Thank you so much dude! Really easy to follow. I actually had fun learning. You made it so simple on a a complicated settings for us knew DSLR owners! 😁👍 Keep it up bradda! WoopWOOP. I just subscribed to see pt. 2
Wow, wow, wow. I rarelycomment on videos, but this was so well done I had to. Hats off. I’m learning about video production for my music channel and this is absolutely perfect for beginners like myself, hundred percent two thumbs up
+Tom Szy Music no problem! Best of luck with your music. I am working on some lighting videos that might help you out in the future. One of them is out now! :)
Love this video. Than k you for the settings! But they are great for outdoor shots. What will you settings be for indoors? I use your settings from the vid on my Canon t2i used as a webcam. Didn't look great. What will your settings be if I was shooting live indoors in a well lit location?
This was a great video!.. I just purchased my Cannon TS7i and your video helped me to know how to set my settings to movie quality for my first video...thanks again!
Whenever you look up ISO or aperture or exposure online you get these PhD level descriptions, similar to coding. Thanks for explaining the basics of what they’re called and what they do, while showing how to adjust it on an actual camera!
YOU are a god send, have had my t2i since 2011, just got interested in shooting video. This was really helpful. Going to the cinestyle video now. WooHoo.
As a beginner I have a question about manual settings for video ( have a sony rx100 mark 5 )... on the last trip I did some videos in auto mode and the result was a disaster.. the trees I was filming looked just way to crispy and sharp ( probably due to a very high shutter speed,, was a very bright day.... now after some research I set it up like this ( shutter speed priority mode,, so it is locked (depending on fps) but the aperture is changing automatically ,,, 24 fps, shutter speed 1/50 ,, aperture auto,, ISO auto... but even when it gets to aperture 11f (max) it is still overexposed,, in the case like the drone I have, I would regulate this with ND filters,,, what can I do in this case??? isn t it better to keep just a locked shutter speed so the camera can regulate automatically the aperture for getting the right amount of light??? cause the light conditions are changing constantly...just when increasing the shutter speed to 1/200 the exposure is ok,, but then i have broken the rule of thumb (shutter speed 2x the fps ).. What actually happens when I turn the ND filter on on the camera??? please explain a bit how to keep the values and what to do when light conditions change,, thanks a lot in advance and sorry if some of the questions are stupid but I am just a beginner in manual settings for video))))
Hi Brandon I think u r really easy to understand and ur work is fantastic I keep watching ur videos to learn as am A beginner.. thank u again wish u all the best bro
@ 2:07 - I don't have a "Movie exposure" option on the 2nd tab like you do. All I have is "Movie rec. size, Sound recording, and Video snapshot. I have a Canon T6i. I'm guessing you just turn the wheel on the top of the camera to "M" and that's the equivalent?
One more tip: do NOT use the lowest aperture setting (e.g. 1.8 on Canon EF 50mm 1.8 STM lens) because it will most likely be blurry. You will get a much sharper image by dialling it up a couple of notches (e.g. to 2.2 on the aforementioned lens). The background will be basically just as blurry but the subject will be much sharper.
This is awesome! I have always wanted to make films but can't decide what camera to get. I am thinking about a Canon DSLR. Would you still recommend one of these? The most I can spend is $700. Thanks for any tips you can give me.

Fantastic video. I only had to wait until 2022 to find it since 2010 when I got my T2i. Excellent explanation, and video!

+TechnoGenuine That's what I strive for!
Excellent video sir!
It would also help if you use an adjustable ND filter on your lens if you open up your aperture setting.
