You know what I enjoy about the content in your videos? You give examples of what you don't want to see and you explain it, then you show the right way.. Bam! very thoughtful ..
+Jim Allen Appreciate the love!
Jim Allen true
That's so true. makes thing much easier to really understand and be able to visualize it when planing our own videos. Great work Peter, keep it going.
I completely agree, it puts everything into perspective and helps those understand visually. I really enjoyed that
trump rules
3 years later, still timeless content. I’m taking time during my quarantine to learn how to make my videos better. Thanks, Peter!
Me too
I have improved since I started 3 years ago when I first saw this video
Agree!
me too
I subscriber Your Channel!
1. That coffee was EPIC
2. I’m never playing cards with you
Lol
Pete, your tutorials are by far the best on youtube. From the humor to the great tips I honestly enjoy every video you post. Thank you so much
I appreciate the compliments!
Peter McKinnon nah you just fine.
You must not watch much youtube.
Right?! That is what I have been saying! And I have watched so many freaking tutorials.
@77dris let him choose his own favourite; whilst we let you 'choose' to type English poorly ;)
4:04 Most epic coffee making I have ever seen
Watching this video in 2019 and it's still absolute gold. Genuinely helpful, quality content.
P R E E A C H H H 🙌🏽
Yes Sir, that's why we can learn a lot about history or past events today... Good value doesn't change over time... For starters, a newbee doesn't have to reinvent the wheel but can get a jump start in the race right up front and launch full flight...
Ha ha. Yeah, film was black and white and silent and everyone walked fast in 2017! 😆
Dude, you’re incredible. It’s more than a tutorial on equipment, it’s an intro into making beautiful art!
I don’t wanna ruin the 69 likes
I got in to video editing about a year ago and this was one of the first videos I watched. A year later and I still have so much to learn! Thanks for the inspiration Peter.
the coffee making was pretty epic tbh...
I'd buy that coffee for sure
I know right!!!!!!
hes a one pour wonder
That sequence reminded me of pretty much every "reality TV" show coming out of the US at the moment TBH....
DonJohn Lol IKR
I’m still coming back to these old videos when I have a doubt. Thanks Peter, hope you’re doing good!
Dude handled those cards like Gambit! Skills!
John Papoulis lmao I thought the same thing
the intro always gives my lil goosebumps ^-^
Even in 2022 these tips and advice are priceless , straight to the point, not wasting anyones time. Thanks Peter 🙏
Great tips. Thanks for helping improve my videos.
I really miss this era of Peter McKinnon. I'm over the moon happy for him that he's found such success, but these old videos mean a ton to me. So from the bottom of my heart, thanks dude.
This is my first time coming across your video. I am creating a new website and wanted some information before I go full tilt in. Your speech pace was just right to understand your message, and I appreciated your real time examples that supported your message. Thanks so much for the info.
Very crucial information Thanks Sir
I laughed way too much at those clips with music that didnt match
So did I lol :)
The re-used face punch was a great touch.
Thought it was pretty funny too xD
Hahaha me too! Like what is that music?? Ahahaha, that's a perfect example for the thought he wants to convey. The tips are very helpful tho.
Awesome tips! So many people just think to buy new and better equipment. Its nice to actually learn how to shoot video rather than just depend on the equipment.
Thank you for the tips! Wifey and I just jumped on to the RUclips game and we are trying to learned as much as we can little by little.
The way you now light your videos at home/studio to how it's here, such mass improvement and sleek, goes to show that once you keep doing something, you just get better and better at it
3:48 montage with that music cracked me up haha
Don't know how I got here, but glad I did.
Lol Same
FragToTheTop Don’t we all ! 😉
One of the best tutorials I’ve watched yet. Excellent.
Great tips for musical choices.... We used a super slow song to one of our videos and even we don’t care for that video as much. Now, we always use fast-paced, groove-oriented music for our videos. We learned the hard way how important matching the music to the mood convey the desired effect. Thanks for offering some awesome tips! 📷😎⭐️
i just got to say i think i watched all your videos on photography when i first started maybe a year ago and that was a great help and instantly helped me get better shots. im not great but way better than i would have been i think of stuff you say while im shooting. i just picked up a go pro to help with my intro into cinematography and this video will be a great help thanks for the great content. keep it up
Always the best tips. You're the best. Tks a lot. I hope to apply them on my vids
Cool Video! But please make a video on how to do those insane card tricks, please!!
search on youtube "spring tutorial" "flicker tutorial" ;)
Thank you!
Seth D Films yessssssss
Any idea which card deck he used
I learned more from this video than the 20 or so videos I've watched over the last few months. Thanks so much.
Also, the demonstration of music inappropriate for the scene or mood, made me actually laugh out loud. The point was really well illustrated :)
Thank you.
You are great. Wonderful tips friend.
The world#1 Best Video Creator Software that makes you richer. Grab from here >> bit.ly/2EHok6P
When a youtuber claims how they got rich from x,y,z, and "you can to," Well, it's easy to assess their dress, backdrop, and over space to observe, they're still working on making that wealth with more subscribers and viewers. :) So, you are so right. Mindful of what the audience is viewing in the video is paramount. As a designer, I can look at the interior structure and read apartment, flat, trailer, cheap, high end, luxury, hotel, etc. The space gives it away.
I’ve timed his intro perfectly. That sound effect is apart of my life lol.
I always use light from the window for lighting my subject for my green screen. Glad to know I'm doing something right! And best of all it's free! 😃👍 The downside is that I can only film on sunny days and we haven't had many of those lately.
5:08 "Even something random, mundane, or normal of a task..." Then shuffles the deck of cards......wait a minute!
3.5M+ followers well earned. I enjoy your content so much. Thanks Peter!
Thanks for the tips! Learning how to make better content 1 day at a time.
I like the color change in the video when you said color grading. The little things you think of!!! AWESOME!!!!
Your camera + lens is like SEVEN Gs! And I'm still trying to figure out how to use my 2-year old "smartphone" to record stuff w/ an $11 mic. I have a long road...
It all takes time! Worth it tho!
I love how you demonstrated the effects in your videos. Great engagement. Definitely learned alot!
This video is great! I love how you talk about static and how motion is so important. When I do my short films, with a crew, I always make sure there's motion but when I do my RUclips videos I'm a one person show & crew. Do you have any cool transitions, possibly in editing, for a one person show & crew? I'd love to add motion and/or creative effects but I lock my camera down since I'm also acting all the characters. Would be great to visually add something more to my video scenes if it's possible with not moving the camera 🎥☺️🐶
He seems to be saying to add motion just to add motion. You should move the camera when it makes sense and adds to the emotion. There is nothing wrong with locked or static shots. Look at your favorite films. Some of the most intense scenes in cinema are locked shots.
Flying High I agree with you one hundred percent, motion needs to have a reason; which, I always do in my short films/web series and I use a lot of static shots because sometimes stillness is a wonderful thing when used in the right clips. I’m not wondering when to use motion but if there’s a way or a technique/effect I can add motion, when needed, even though I’m a one person show and crew. I lock the camera in place then I’m the actor in front of the camera, so I won’t be able to move the camera when I’m in the frame. I was hoping there might be some realistic effects out there that can make it look as if I had a cameraperson onset with me.
Everything you do in production and post production, should be done for a reason. Never do this or that just to have this or that in your show.
Why Wait Productions - Jahnnalee how about shooting in 4K so you can do various Ken Burns effects in post - then output to HD so quality is retained.
Super!

I recently started learning EDITING and this is the first video of Peter i have watched. He filled me with energy and motivation. Now I will work even harder to learn editing. I have great admiration for this guy. Thanks peter.
3:56 His face nearly killed me 😂😂😂
Love the video, but for me I don't have a lot of time to set up shots because I am a video producer for the U.S. Army and i have to shoot uncontrolled action, such as someone building something, or working on equipment or firing weapons, so if I miss something I just loose a sequence for the story. It would be amazing and super helpful if you could make a video that covers shooting BROLL for uncontrolled action!

2. Music and Sound
3. Learn More
4. _MOTION_ in your shots
5. Location
THANK YOU
Proper music and sound effects! Yes!!!
For some reason you make me want to buy you a drink and hang out.
Hello Peter and all of you video/film makers, I know it is hard to find a song and I am making music and you can use my music for free on your videos :) I make chill vibe/ hip-hop vibes/ electronic/ ambient/ experimental music if you interested
thats nice man thanks!!
Subbing! THanks man!!!!
I think I would describe this genre as Lo-Fi. If you look up lo-fi hip hop beats, there are a ton of sounds and songs that match this. Keep up the good work, stuff sounds awesome!
Koby Just, thank you very much man :) in fact its usually the case but I dont stick with that genre always, trying to keep up diversaty. therefore there are rock n roll, rock, ambient etc. In fact you can make request about the genre of the next song if you like :)
I am really liking the lo-fi genre as of recent in my videos. A artist on Spotify /w the name Moow is really catching my eye recently.
I don't have many requests for genres because I listen to a lot of music, just keep making content. Don't stop, for the sake of your what seems to be passion.
I started a mom channel about a year ago, not too many subscribers, whatever. I love your videos and I'm about to try all of these to make my videos better! Thank you for the tips!!
4:08 I'm gonna take this cup if coffee... *and DRINK IT*

Hey Peter, I'm a beginner at this stuff and I have learned so much in one day from you than I have in the last few months. Thank you
If I ever make it big, I am paying for this guy to come to hang out with me and make videos. He sounds like an amazingly genuine dude to chill with.

thanks a lot bro.. I learned a lot listening to you than to my photography teacher..keep it up!
You inspired me to learn photography and videomaking
Thank you for letting us learn from you!
Thanks for the tips. We are really trying and appreciate the tip. Lynn and Danny
Brilliant video Peter, thank you.
I like how you explain things, your very fluid and clear with what you say! Thanks for a great video! I’m starting on RUclips so this is big help
There’s so much that goes into making a video, one does not simply shoot a video. Sometimes I get super frustrated when it takes over an hour setting up lights and angles and all that...trying to be more patient and not let that get to me so that when I shoot the actual video I can be fresh and not stressed....
Thanks this will help a lot with starting my own RUclips channel .
It was fun to revisit you from the beginning! Yep, saw it when you did it bro!
Peter, could you please tell how do you make your videos so stable and smooth - do you have any kind of gimbal or stabilization?
CRIAR VIDEO INTERNOS É OTIMO, AGORA FAZER FLAGRANTES DE RUA É MELHOR AINDA!
Very interesting as usual and super helpful! Thank you
So helpful thank you so much 😊
I thought that coffee scene with that epic music was awesome lol
I love everything about your video. Some videos like this can be over the top. Plus the work you show off it great!
Thank you Peter.
