We discuss the good and bad of the m50i and the 40i along with who this is for and why you would choose it over the Audi, Mercedes and Volvo competition. We talk about the mechanical aspects and the tech that makes this attractive yet expensive option in a sea of options.

Savage geese went Savage in this video. Haven't seen him have so much fun in a car in a long, long time.
Agreed....please do more fun car reviews. It's a lot more entertaining to watch! Please!
It’s expectation though, people are just not expecting this out of SUV
Very SAVAGE! (:
@@clee19821013 I agree. He was very negative about the BMW 5 series sedan even though it drives better than the x5.
LOL I love that "ohhhH!" sound Mark makes during 0-60 pulls
You could easily see when Marked launched it off the line the torque from that monster twin turbo V8 sucked him into the seat. This X5 50i looks like a license killer. If i had the money i would get this. I would tell the wifey im taking the kids out for a drive and we come back and the kids would look like they saw Pennywise in person🤣🤣
Not 0-60 pulls. 😏 (The second one was 0-81 because he forgot to blur it.)
I just got this car for my wife and I gotta say it's really an amazing SUV. It's extremely comfortable with a plush drive but still handlesbrilliantly, quality is as good as it gets and in my opinion better than Mercedes and it's blisteringly quick (and this is coming from an M5 driver).
V6 or v8?
@@enbardis V8 the M50i
After 2 years, how do you find riding in the back seat? I drive an Audi Q7 and had a feeling that the back seat of the X5 is somewhat less comfy than my current car, also the fact that it doesnt recline much might be a minus on longer road trips.
@@luvtiti My experience with BMWs is that their SUVs are a lot less comfortable than their sedans in the rear, that carries over to the X5 as well.
How reliable is it?
this is freaky,,15 minutes ago i was thinking "what if savagegeese reviewed the X5'' ,,and now this,,im not joking.
sure buddy
Same. Wanted him to do an x5
You are the only reviewer with good taste in music.Thank you.
I have to say that the quality of production you guys put into your reviews is second to none. I have started watching your vlogs on my new Dell notebook and was blown away with the clarity. Thanks
I know this is an "older" video....but the quality of the information provided, while being entertaining....is 2nd to NONE!....thanks guys
I’ve watched a lot of reviews on this vehicle and your review is one of the best ones I’ve seen
That moonroof is literally LIT 😂👌
11:59 yeah!
Lmfao, that was hilarious.
"let's launch it..."
"Oh!"
"Let's launch it again..."

They should of gone Focal speakers and halcro Control

Your channel just rocks! I’m in the used market and looking back to older X5’s and this review did the trick. Awesome review!
Excellent video, camerawork, lighting and sound as well as pacing. Loved the contrast between smooth piano music and going ape driving the car. If I had that kind of cash you would have sold me!
Reviews of such high quality and fun factor simply make 95% of car reviewers on RUclips redundant. Bravo.
I would get it with the straight six which is more reliable, and less expensive. It is better than Comparable Mercedes, and still the best in its class. Just remember lease and stay with base straight six.
My dad got the 2019 X5 50i. The V8 is just beautiful. Had to get it shipped from Kansas City to Connecticut since they're so rare.
No, I'll have the V8. Thanks.
Paul M lease ANY BMW,Mercedes, Audi........Buy Any Lexus.
Lease a V8, buy the i6
The straight six is a beautiful engine. Honestly probably the smoothest engine transmission I’ve ever driven and is a big reason why we got the 2019 X5. Excellent interior as well.
The platform is brilliant. Drivetrain, handling, comfort, tech/infotainment, build quality are all top, top notch in the 'under $100k' bracket. You really get what you pay for at base price. (You have to get at least some options, though, unless you want it to be 40% of the price after 3 years and 30k miles.) But most of the options are very expensive, and if you want all the bells and whistles, then the price becomes absurd.
If you don't particularly enjoy driving, aren't savvy enough to make use of a car that talks to you (on a higher level than cheaper brands), and don't need leather everywhere, you don't need a BMW that starts at $60,000. But a MODERATELY optioned X5 from 2019/2020 (G generation) definitely earns the price tag compared to a cheaper brand. For example, an X5 with a 50% higher sticker than a Grand Cherokee feels like it's about 50% more car.
Awesome review. I like how you give your honest opinion. There are things you like and dislike with this car...and this is how a true car review should be like!
Oncoming drivers seeing Savage twirl his way into the lane: "Freaking beemer drivers."
Without using indicators too. Fellow BMW drivers would be proud.
So pumped for your GT3 review!! Can’t wait
We bought a 2016 X5 brand new, it outperformed any vehicles that my wife and I had previously, American, Japanese, and Korean cars were outshined just how well the X5 was polished. Granted, it's more expensive than the other brands, with BMW, you get what you pay for, we drove it around the country from New York to Florida and California, not a single hiccup and the service people are very friendly and helpful
what engine does it have?
@@ShaiyanHossain It had the inline 6. We wanted good gas milage and didn't live in a weather intensive area so the extra HP from the V8 wasn't needed but it still provided plenty of power to overtake or get up to interstate speeds.
@Henrik K What? Like they remove the seats, headliner, carpets, etc?!
Robbie Frame II mine also has the Inline 6. Love it
@Henrik K really? I thought your country was rich?
And are those people refugees?
Dude. You're awesome. I'm single, happy, alone, don't answer questions when i get home, I can take naps, and I'm leaving my 991.2 for this X5M. Your review is so far beyond my auto intellect and really made my decision easy. Alohaaaaa
Great review - so thorough and honest. Thanks for driving it the way it should be driven. I’m subscribing...
5:40 -- Love how they put light weight aluminum control arms on, then bolt a weight to the middle of the control arm, to make it heavy and tone down vibrations. LOL
My goodness, the music intro in this video was such an excellent choice!
Damn, Savage! You almost lost control in losing control of that beast when pulling onto the road😂
The production quality of your videos is just way ahead of any channel that makes car reviews. Special thanks for the music, absolutely love it! Keep up such good work.
Omg FINALLY!!!🤣👍🏼 I already just bought one and love it.
Great video, I love seeing you have so much fun!
7:32 the sound when you bust
11:59
9:47 when u try to talk while cummin
That’s 3 money shots! And no jokes about the rear end!
Great video as always, loved the GT-R videos too, especially the history portion, presentation and content is first class……
Hey Mark, could you do a video on the sound testing? What do all the graphs mean and how do they affect sound quality? Do you check for imaging? What disks/media do you use to evaluate a system? Thanks, you do a great job of creating a concise and through car review. I'm in no way looking to buy a 100K car, but still enjoy watching your content.
Really well presented and informative piece, thank you. On the ride quality issue, I haven't had the chance to drive an 'M' version of the X5, but experiencing a base version twice (as a passenger, I should say), I thought the ride was supple and really comfortable!
Really felt the energy in this one! Seems like a really fun SUV for what it is
Well produced, informative and entertaining video. Thanks
I think this review sold me to buy an X5 Xdrive 40i and I couldn’t be happier ❤
Goose on fire lately🔥
How you only have 500+ followers is beyond me. But love the honesty of your videos 👍
Just bought one of these with some added push from your review. Went air suspension from your rec of all being to sport related. Keep them comming.
I really enjoy your reviews. I can't afford this car and in fact most of the cars you review but I do appreciate your work and honesty. I used to dream of any 911, then Golf R and now I settled on a Subaru wagon. I feel like a half the man I used to be...
Life’s more than just materialistic toys, as fun as they are, they need to be earned. They also get financed a lot by a lot of dumb people who can’t afford the payments….
Great review, really enjoyed that. Thanks!
That intro song 🤙... This generation X5 @ the right spec is just @ another level...
Waiting for your review of the SQ7 later this summer!
Awesome.. thanks for the quality reviews
Love the intro music...very apropos!
Gave us everything we need to know about the car, nice review
Almost bought the damn thing just because of the intro music.
good lord that into music...smooth af
I work at the plant that builds these and I'm still impressed with the power.
Another great vid!
Great review and camera skills.
Buy it in 2022 for about $50k with about 25,000 miles on it.

Same
well, it’s 2022 and they’re much more than $50k
@@kristians2704 its 2023 and they are now in high 40’s for CPO.
@@ajr5195That’s still for a fairly high mileage one though. Point is, these are holding value pretty decently.
WOOOO Savagegeese video time.
Long time viewer - this helped me decide on an X5 M50i (2022 model). This vehicle is the complete package: utility, fun, luxury, and looks good (subjective of course). I'm very happy with my first BMW. The difference in driving experience compared to the Ford/GM/Toyota products I have owned is truly in another league.
I'm considering the same - do you mind the fuel economy, especially given recent fuel prices? I've been looking at the x40i to address this, but I know the V8 is special. I'm also debating on the panoramic roof or not - I rarely use the one I already have, and I'm assuming not having the glass roof would result in much better sound insulation. Thoughts?
@@anjin77 the fuel economy is decent in the 40i, i get around 19 mpg in the city which isnt bad considering the size of the car + i drive somewhat aggressively and leave it in adaptive mode. the panoramic sunroof is standard on all x5s, the back lit "sky lounge" panoramic sunroof is optional, but dont worry about sound insulation. the x5 is easily one of the quietest cars ive owned (even without the optional acoustic glass) and ive owned a 7 series, 5 series and an f15 x5.
@@smar1208 thanks for the feedback, that's helpful
It.s nice to see what.s under the car.. great job.. new subscriber here!!
Love the candle light dinner intro
i've always wanted to get in to an X5. i just can't handle the cost. your video pretty much sums it up.
You dont miss with the intros
A great and very thorough review
That piano intro was wonderful
Really jamming to that interior tbh. The seats 😗
And yeah, it's a vehicle that caters to people who can't articulate what a good driving experience is but know it when they feel it. Same as the Porsche stable.
Those laser headlights are hot! Great review!
Very informative review! Great job!
9:25.... Mark, you love that left-hand turn lol
I own this vehicle and I absolutely love it V8 , Driving assist pro , I can get 26 miles per Gallon on ECO mode . Big negative is the price point lol 😂
So I’m at work siting at my desk and the BMW dealer called me on my 2013 X5 needing a recall repair for a airbag. I told the guy l already traded the X5 for a Volkswagen Arteon lease. I also said I will be back in a few years! Lol..Now this popped up! I miss my X5.. this video is my confirmation🙌🏾
I have watched countless videos on this car but you have sold it for me!
Best automotive reviews on planet earth!
I'm not going back to Mars, EVER!
I’ve got a 2019 X5 m sport with the 6 cylinder. I have the interior lighting, sport exhaust, air suspension. It’s a wonderful vehicle...on a lease. There is so much tech in it that I wouldn’t want to maintain and repair it out of warranty. Surprisingly good on gas when you drive normally. I’m really happy with it.
Has it been reliable?
What a great review, the opening intro music itself urged me to put a thumbs-up on the video right away. Whats the title of the music?
Ordered a M340i xdrive and just changed my order today for an x5 3.0d instead (286 hp inline 6). I live in Europe. Here these 2 cars are priced the same when you add the options you want believe it or not. So went from a 3 serie to an x5 🤣. More practicality, less speed but I am a family guy and we already have a 5 serie. I guess I will just get the next gen M240i or M2 for fun. Thank you for the great review as usual.
Nicely done review. My mom has a 2019 40i she purchased new, it has been perfect for her. I recently bought a 2016 50i and although it’s a bit older I like it better in every way. Something about the new interior and exterior design leaves me cold 🤷♂️
9:28 That's you losing control buddy Don't play yourself
Yeah he definitely almost lost it into the ditch haha
yea that laugh was a lowkey release valve of stress
For real... like he can fool us. Just looks stupid after that tbh
He's just learning the car. I think it's more authentic to keep it in there. All driving enthusiasts are gonna try dumb things and make mistakes until we get the hang of it.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow i wouldn't want someone learning the limits of a car when i'm in the other lane.
Love the appropriate outburst!
Having never driven/owned a BMW we recently bought an X5 M sport for my wife. I now understand why their slogan is the Ultimate Driving Machine. It’s a wonderful experience to drive. It handles like a car and it is extremely quick. I couldn’t justify the roughly $15k price difference for the v8 so went with the inline 6 and it’s more than enough. Only downside is the long term maintenance if you decide to buy it vs leasing it which is what we did.
genuine question: why would your wife need an x5 which 5m long SUV? If something sporty needed, does a mercedes CLA which is a sporty compact sedan more than enough?
I never really understood it.

Great review - I currently love my E70. I plan on driving X5's for decades to come.
Which motor do you have? I've been considering an X5 xdrive35i (or whateva they call the turbo I6 gas engine)
johnnievlogs keep as long as you can. The new bmws aren’t the same.
@@shanet7511 I have the 35d , I love it.
best car reviewer hands down!
I'm so grateful for my 2017 F15 xDrive50i, and that I ordered it with 19" 50-series tires. Anything rides smooth on a smooth road, but here in Minnesota where the roads are minefields 8 months of the year, anything with an aspect ratio of less than 50 is a recipe for a.) a really rough ride and regular trips to the dentist to have your teeth re-set, and b.) at least one ruined wheel and tire per year, with the cost coming straight out of your back pocket. My xDrive50i has a controlled but supple ride. I can count on one hand the number of times I've spilled my drink on a rough road. And not a single bent rim or pinch-flatted tire so far.
“Decline that!!!” 😂😂😂😂
Great review
I would by this car based on his reactions alone. You can just hear how genuine and visceral it is. That price though....
Saab was first to do the night mode/black panel. It was introduced in the 1994 model year. Would turn off everything on the dash except 1/2 of the speedometer. Any warnings or excessive temps would turn the whole cluster back on.
Good review and I own a 2015 X5 50i. Love the car but was going to move down to the 40i but now they do not offer the leather dash and BW stereo on the 40i. Deal killer so holding on to mine till I see the refresh. The V8 is just too much motor for around my area.
Interesting that you said the air suspension is too firm. Every other review I saw said it was too floaty -- in comfort mode, especially. I wonder if they recalibrated it for 2020.
It's a really big step up from the previous version. I would go with the 45e, 50 miles on electric is pretty Damn good for a car this big.
I was thinking the same thing. But I want to buy instead of lease. And the nearest BMW dealership is an hour and a half away. And it looks like BMW's other hybrids tend to have Gremlins. So I might rather go with the gas version.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow I have only heard good things about the X5 45e. Harry's Garage had one for a while and he did a review on it. He loves it. If you are buying you will get more resale in the future if its got some batteries on it I reckon. Tough call. Personally I would get the 45e. Good luck either way.
@@VSS1 It's hard to say if the hybrid would have more residual value after 7-10 years (the length of time I'd LIKE to keep the car). I think the bigger question is, will BMWs batteries last that long, and if not, how much to replace them? Yeah; saw Harry's Garage review -- it really impressed me. Mostly just not sure about the additional complications and potential headaches that could come with owning a BMW hybrid. And living an hour and a half from the dealership would suck if the car had to continually go in. I was thinking of the 530e, but on the forums there's significant people complaining. Although maybe BMW has worked more of the bugs out. But these things typically take years. It took them like 5 years before they changed the timing chain design on the n20 engines, which are grenading themselves now.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow I'm not sure about the X5 45e but the electric cars that bmw build come with 8 years battery warranty.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow - more value as battery is guaranteed for 10 years, means can go 12 to 15 years plus the usage of Gas engine and therefore the gas miles will be so much lower like 35000 miles on a 100000 miles. Believe me 65% of the miles are put in local driving
Couldn't hide the smile on his face driving... says a lot.
Lovely video sir thank you
Great review and thank you for your content, you guys do a great job. I am in the market for either the M50i or the 40i, I am still trying to figure out if the v8 is worth the extra cost. I have driven both, and still working through that decision. I would like to ask you about the air suspension based on your experience -- would you recommend the air suspension option on either cars? I don't drive off-road, and I don't see the value in having the car lowered for loading items. However, I was curious if it makes a difference in the handling and overall comfort in your opinion. Thank you in advance.
elegant intro. sure doesn't go with this thing, but the interior is improved.
According to The Straight Pipes, BMW engineers have said the USB ports around the cup holders are waterproof
I thought this was one of your better reviews recently. Partly to do with the fact that you throwing this vehicle around on wet roads. That was shocking to see on a RUclips video. I am excited for your next review.
A bit quirky but you can obtain all the options mentioned like massaging front seats, heated rear seats. Heated and cooled front seats. Hang with the BMW advisor and build them out. However, I found the HK to be better than average. I have not heard the BW in an X5, but I’m sure it would send shivers down my spine. The PHEV version of the X5 means less visits to the gas station and I love that!
We crossed shopped this with a GLE-450 for my wife. This seemed the X5 seemed to be a much better value. She loves it. The 40i seems to be about as quick as my GLS550. Not fast, but quick and gets better mileage.
just picked one of these up the x40i variant with the exec package. with m sport. I love it way better than my x3 m40i.
i can always count on this guy for good background music
Nice driving Mark
