honestly when i saw new pathfinders rules for the first time i thought it’s all over for recon teams of the greater good. but then i reread rules for several times and realised that this ruleset gives a lot of interesting synergies and cool abilities. this kill team now become definitely one of the hardest kill teams to manage but with some skill, patience and experience you can handle it and release mighty combos against your enemies. like, two drones good in range attacking FOUR times pro turning point? sounds awesome! with new recon dash and comms i can push my grenadier in a very first round straight forward to the enemy deploy zone! new bonded ploy is super powerful AND with accelerator drone we can pull some operatives shooting at the whole new level, especially for Blooded and Shas‘Ui who hit at 3+. So now i think pathfinders no weak but hard kill team. And that is kinda cool too because it’s always interesting to learn and manage something complicate that rewards you for this
I really like the feel of the pathfinders rules now, more synergy plays required between drones and operatives. Feels like a really nice teamwork ruleset. Pathfinder players who relied on easy one-and-done tools now have to be more creative but there's still a lot of juice in those synergies it looks like. Vet guard and pathfinders became less 3 trick ponies and more actual teamwork it looks like which feels really cool and way less oppressive.
@@CanYouRollaCrit Could be the case but it looks like a lot of players are just jumping ship from both these teams instead of looking at how they can make the new rulesets work haha?
@@tgcacreative The most vocal parts of the warhammer community play competitive unfortunately, so this is what they do. If something isn't immediately amazing, most will just abandon it because thinking is hard. Props to those who stick with the bad armies/teams - when they are truly bad. The much larger group of non-competitive players agree with you. Its not nearly as dire for pathfinders in most games as people online are saying.
Can the opponent shake off even more markerlight tokens with a counteract since its technically a separate activation? Or does it not count as an activation at all?
Hi, noob here and I'm trying to choose my first kill team. I did not understand why do you say that Drone controller can allow a drone to shoot, move and shoot again (12:00). Even if he gives a free action to the drone, if the drone just shot, he shouldn't be able to shoot again. What am I missing? Thanks
I managed to buy my Pathfinders at release and not play them once the whole edition. At least I got some really fun times out of my Gellerpox before they got nerfed into the ground.
Either whoever they put in charge of transitioning this team is a secret Tau hater, or they think if they make this team awful then Tau players will buy the Vespid.
As a Tau player I was always going to buy the vespid anyway - they are new vespid! Like the kroot refresh! So all GW have managed to do is make me sad :(
I'll reserve judgment on Pathfinders till I play them, but i believe they will generally struggle, and straight up suck in gallowdark maps, where their toolkit is nearly useless. This was probably GW trying to nerf them from bogeymen to average, but (as usual) overcompensating. They probably will blow up a reckless opponent, but will be a high skill team very vulnerable to mistakes or misplays.
So, confused. Wouldn't you only be able to field 10 Operatives if you brought a Recon D? Since they take up two slots, or am i misunderstanding GW language again? Thanks!
I really hope that this is just an overcompensation that gets fixed in their promised rule changes. Take the boogeyman team down a few pegs and then slowly bring them back up again. I can only hope, as the aesthetic of the pathfinders and the tau in general has been my draw to the game for ages.
A really simple buff would be to make it so that you aren't limited to only popping one or the other for Mont'ka or Kau'yon. Being able to pop both, one per turning point, would make them at least a thematic set-up recon + fire-and-maneuver one-two combo which would, while being very one trick pony, at least give them something of a style. I guess we'll have to see. Novitiates being playable softens the blow a little at least 😅
So if i want to play pathfinders just play Kasrkin instead, is that what you want James Workshop? Ranged factions are good if they are imperium? Would you guys let me play pathfinder minis with Kasrkin rules just to make me feel better?
@@CanYouRollaCrit Thanks, if there is no file to download so I can print tokens, the rules will have to do. GW should make these tokens available as a download for everyone who already has teams.

Yeah sad face. They simplified the mechanism, but made the ability to do damage is waaay too dependant on layering up figures & drones & marker lights.
kill team pathfinders OOS, regular pathfinders - omg how cheap ? 10 figures, 3 weird drones - 2 rail rifles ? ive got shield and gun drones elsewhere.... even if they are a bit pants now, £24 a team is intriguing as I have other tau to mix in.
@@CanYouRollaCrit they fall back for 1 less, and set up their own bonded which stacks with the drone. you also could treat them like redshirt guardsmen but they have some offensive potential with ga2
i think bonded is pretty broken. al their weapons have insane damage, 4/5. a guaranteed hit for every shot is just ridiculous. yeah, there is the 3 inch restriction, but that is nothing. this ploy is broken.
