    Someone else commented that the 400volt architecture will actually be Tesla Supercharger friendly, it should charge at full 128kw, whereas the current 800volt models are limited to around 100kw, another bonus the charging port is in the right place, passenger side front.

  • @jeffs6090
    @jeffs6090 Месяц назад +5

    For the most part, fast charging an EV is done minimally for most people. This car, I would think, is more of a city car and therfore would take even fewer road trips than other EVs. Ergo, this car will probably be charged at home more than 95% of the time and fast charging times won't matter.

    • @jamespaul2587
      @jamespaul2587 Месяц назад +2

      Fast charging still matters for many, especially those without home charging and for those who plan to do occasional road trips.

      @jamespaul2587 Your use of "occasional" there actually fits my entire comment. Faster dcfc isn't needed by most people most of the time. Especially for this vehicle. People aren't going to buy an EV3 for road tripping. It's a small urban commuter car. With over 300 miles with the bigger battery, you wouldn't even need to charge it at home but maybe once a week.

    10-80% on an 81 kWh battery in ~30 mins seems like a very flat charging curve. And if it stays at around 110-120 kW it's quicker than many other automakers cars.

    • @BremboT
      @BremboT Месяц назад

      It's also how far that 80% can take you. They claim over 500 kilometers on a full charge.

    The thing is that what has been presented is primarily intended for the Korean and European market. We in Europe don't care about AWD in this car segment. In most cases it's just dead weight that increases the price of the vehicle and reduces efficiency. Their main competitor in Europe for the small battery is the Fiat 600e (54 kWh) with a base price around $30,000 (excluding taxes and fees) and for the long range version the Renault Scenic E-Tech (87 kWh) with a base price around $40,000 (excluding taxes and fees). It is very likely that there will be a separate event before sales begin in North America with specifications compatible with your market.

    It looks GREAT on the interior. Updated steering wheel and overall design language that looks less cheap than before. More like Polestar in a good way. And freaking physical controls FINALLY. And with decent range. Wow

    You completely missed the value of Vehicle to Load (V2L). It's not about running a bouncy castle. Its value is running your air conditioning/refrigerator/whatever in your house when there's an extended blackout due to a natural disaster or other cause. Yes, you can do fun things with it, but the reason it's almost a must-have for me is that it takes the place of a generator in my disaster preparedness plans.

    • @Dqtube
      @Dqtube Месяц назад +1

      They can't do many of these things because they are limited to 1.8 kW of power because they have the ~120 V standard voltage. They also missed the information that the car will get an update to V2H/V2G like the EV9 when the infrastructure and laws are ready for it.

    • @Cyrribrae
      @Cyrribrae Месяц назад

      V2L just isn't that useful to me for those reasons. But to ruin my refrigerator, I either have to carry that outside to the car or crash my car into my kitchen wall. My AC doesn't have a normal plug I can just run to the car outlet.
      V2H - true V2H that is always accessible even outside of an emergency - is what I'm looking for. I want to be able to be independent (not disconnected) from the grid, if I choose to be whenever I want.
      V2L is still nice if I want to run a mini fridge, a portable AC unit, and an electric grill though.

      @@Cyrribraeyou can watch a video from Ioniq Guy that shows you that running all these things is possible without you needing to move appliances to adjacent to the EV. An interlock or transfer switch with a generator plug for 120 volts can run these 120 volt loads in your home.

    Rear wheel drive on an EV is the preferred design as weight distribution is balanced and no torque steer.

    I'm a HUGE AWD proponent, living in MN. But FWD does 90% (yes, that's an arbitrary number) of what AWD can do in inclement weather especially with a vehicle as heavy as an EV. Then you put snow tires into the equation and it's even better. So while I do like the idea of the EV3 having an AWD version it's likely not needed and would only reduce range. We drive an EV9 GTL but could potentially downsize in the future as we're not too far from being empty nesters.

    • @JH-kb1jk
      @JH-kb1jk Месяц назад

      I agree. I live in Finland, i own FWD Niro EV its quite adequate in winter and bet i know thing or two about winter weather :)
      I did comparisons of EV6 FWD and AWD at multible specs so, in here atleast, price diffirence is about 10000€ so AWD is about 15-20% more expensive compared to otherwise same spec.

  • @KiaVince

    One thing you may not have considered is that the EV3 could be primarily designed for a non midwestern market like the EV Soul. Many parts of the country don’t get a lot of Kia AWD models because of terrain and the opposite is true with FWD. It’s very hard to find a FWD EV6 in Colorado but not in AZ. I have a feeling the same will be true with the EV3.

    I know this is an American channel, but you guys, unfortunately, will miss out on the EV5 that is slightly smaller than the EV6 but will be $20k cheaper at least in our market than the EV6, but its also available in AWD.
    Unfortunately, it's made in China, so that makes it much cheaper for us but expensive for the US.
    Apparently, you may get your wish on an AWD version with reports of an EV3 GT not to be confused with GT Line, which is still FWD only.

    If they keep the base price at around 41 000$ CAD then I might seriously reconsider buying the Kona EV. I can't wait to see the official prices in North America!

    I have road tripped with my 2020 Soul EV in Canada with its 64KWH battery and 46 minutes 10-80% was not a deal breaker, with over 60K KM of just road tripping it did fine until late in 2022 too many CCS chargers were down and in BC much more usage of the limited ones that were left. So the EV3 with 400volt and the right location for NACS or CCS with NACS adapter much much better on long distance roads, we may trade our Soul for this long range GT trim level variant.

    The 400volt system will be very Tesla friendly and really 31 minutes verses 18 minutes, gives you more time at the stop to not only get some food but also visit the Lue. NACS will be in 2025 as Hyundai N.A. president said 2024 for their group and as Kia is part of this group likely the same.

    128kw is fast enough for a base charging speed, if i can save money with a little slower charging i might be willing... however, in the 30s, i can get a model Y nowadays, so if the kia doesn't have the 7500 reduction on it that gets it into the 20s, i dont see it selling in giant numbers

    Where would the EV3 fall in terms of the Niro EV? Would it be EV3 base trim, Niro EV Base, then EV3 Extended range? Would they remove the Niro EV option as its so close in price range?

  • @MickMcGuire

    I think the point of this car is the price point, so you can't have everything like AWD and 800v

      Exactly, the cost of an additional motor would also lead to lower efficiency. Good winter tires and adjusting to driving conditions are adequate for most regions

    How will the Volvo EX30 make it into the USA now with the 100% Chinese tariff? This y can make it in Ghent, Belgium, but they would need some time to switch it from China to Belgium.

      @@gao57009 I hadn't heard that. I'm sure it's possible though. ... The main reason Volvo's bringing the EX30 to Ghent is because EX30 sales are soaring in Europe, and not so much in China. I'm sure US EX30s will come from Ghent, but it was probably more of a secondary reason even with the tariffs.
