I’m shocked out of spec didn’t go to the Spain drive event. That’s crazy. I figured for sure Kyle would want to be there

The delay wasn't Polestar. The delay was Volvo. Volvo required that the EX90 be available from the start with the LiDAR capabilities. It took time to get that to a level Volvo was satisfied with. Volvos heritage is on safety, so getting that wrong would be disastrous.
The Polestar 3 was/is available from the start without LiDAR, but they weren't going to spool the production line (certainly not in South Carolina) or the component staging and production until the larger volume EX90 was ready to go into production.

I disagree with Max on the reliability and responsiveness of the P2 software. I have the '23 model and many of the early glitches were fixed by then; also the OTAs were effective. The P3 is a bit too big for my purpose; and have a P4 reservation, but not sure about delivery time on those!

One small correction. I could be wrong, but, my understanding from other coverage of these cars is that the import tariff credit only accrues to Polestar for cars manufactured in the US that are subsequently exported to foreign destinations. Not for the ones manufactured and sold in the US.

Your comments on open communications needed is spot on. The worst EV communications for me has been Cadillac which also had a software issue that delayed Lyriq. Paid for Pre-order September 2022 for 2024 Lyriq. I have not received any communication from Cadillac or the dealer. Dealer has gone dark and does not respond to any phone calls or emails. Cadillac tells me there is nothing they can do. Looks like my $100 pre-order fee has just evaporated and I have no ability to place an order off of my pre-order. Cadillac dealers say I can issue a new order that will take 4 - 6 months. Also, none of the Cadillac dealers are offering the IRA Federal Tax Credit or the Cadillac Ultium Promise Rebate. All claim no such offers available. Polestar is not alone in terrible customer treatment. I love the Polestar 3 design but will wait for other options, including NACS charging port before buying another EV. Hopefully we will see improved options and better customer support in the coming years.

24:58 the “software delay” is quite straightforward: they expected Luminar LIDAR to be ready this year and it wasn’t

Polestar really needs to update the P1. Keep the beauty of the 2 door coupe but with their current 2024 designing, and make it a full bev. I, along with many others, find their naming structure rather dumb. It's even more crazy to just get rid of a name when you're done making it. They'll come out with another coupe at some point like the P1 and they'll call it the P9, or whatever number they're up to at that time. (The P6 will be the little roadster.) Just redo the P1 as a second generation.

Have you ever considered suggesting to Kyle of doing a once a month live podcast, so as we can ask questions, etc?

Organise a mostly full-time co-host with you, then you've got a plethora of 'out of spec' people to also join as a 3rd guest each week.

There’s way too much extra stuff in the Polestar 3 that jacks up the price needlessly … they should start with 18- or 19-inch wheels, basic audio system, all-metal roof, no air suspension, etc., as standard … then they could sell it for much less and get the federal tax credit to USA buyers once it’s made in Charleston

I think the Polestar 3 is a fantastic car, but I also think the price is a problem. The Lucid Gravity is apparently going to start around 80 thousand. I've heard it might qualify for the tax credit. Even if it doesn't, for just a few thousand dollars more the Gravity seems like way more car than the P3. I think the sweet spot for the P3 is around $65,000. We'll just have to see. Gr8 discussion as usual, Francie. 🚗🇺🇸 🇸🇪🔌⚡

hear you, but the Gravity seems to be more family friendly, almost minivan oriented, and not focused on driving like this Polestar. A P3 would be cheaper than a similarly spec'd Posche too. I keep saying this might be a happy purchase for the soon to be discontinued Jaguar iPace customer.
Edit: my biggest issue with the P3, for its length, ~193", the max cargo capacity is only 50 cu. ft. the M-B EQE is slight shorter yet has a bit more space.

The distinction in range between a standard dual motor and one with the Performance Pack is in part the stickier tires, yes, but the big driver is how they've programmed the decoupling of the rear motor.
EPA ratings are based on the default settings. The default settings on the standard dual motor is that the rear motor will be off/decoupled during cruising/light driving (and then you can select "sport mode" to keep the rear motor engaged). The Performance Pack version is the opposite, and by default the rear motor stays engaged unless you select the "range" mode.
The Polestar 4 will be the same, except on that it's the front motor that gets decoupled.

Thanks for the info! As usual, looks like EPA test regimens and the default settings inform a lot of the numbers.

Do you have to pay +100 % customs now?

    • @tiredplumber
      @tiredplumber 3 месяца назад +3

100% tariff goes into effect on 8/1/24. Over 300 P3 Launch Editions have cleared customs. Might be another 150 cleared before then also according to shipping and lading data so far. After that would figure vehicles would be coming from SC factory without 100% tariff.
