I honestly really like Mazda right now, and I'm really impressed with their current designs. Their minimalist approach is a refreshing change from the older Japanese car designs, which I didn't find very appealing. Now, Mazda is making beautiful vehicles that are not only affordable but also high in quality and reliability. The only area where they could improve is in the customization options! you should be able to mix and match any color combo you want!, then they'd be absolutely perfect in my book.
Coming from a current gen Mazda owner, there's a few things I believe they could improve on. 1. Their paint is literal eye candy but horribly soft. Mine looks like it's been through a whole sandstorm with the amount of paint chips it has. 2. Their OEM tires suck. I'm finding that all new Mazda's come with terrible tires from the factory that have little grip and barely last 30,000 miles. 3. Gloss black trim, EVERYWHERE. Good luck keeping them boys from scratching. However, it looks like they listened to consumer complaints and removed ALL of the interior gloss black in the newer CX-60, 70, and 90s. 4. Safety systems. This mostly applies to early models but some of them barely work (i.e., lane-keep assist, front collision mitigation) and/or are not calibrated correctly. I recently test drove a current 2024 Mazda and it seems to be mostly fixed. 5. Finally, we can all agree that Mazda doesn't make great use of its interior space. However, that is mostly due to the new gen design which I think is worth the trade off.

This colour is absolutely eye catching. I just got an SUV before the release of CX-70 came otherwise I would’ve taken this. For the value, its absolutely a steal.
Mazdas are cool, they combine BMW style exterior and Lexus style Interior with Mazda engineering, I hope they succeed but the current market is difficult for a brand like this.
I’ve been upset that my PHEV doesn’t have color matched, but in my first month, I rubbed it against the garage and my no color matched cladding caught a nail and doesn’t really look bad with the damage where a painted piece would looked wrecked. So what I really wish was I had color matched cladding and didn’t make mistakes, but this is functional for someone like me lol.
Hi Yuri! Just FYI, the transmission has a wet start up clutch. It DOES NOT have a torque converter. The wet startup clutch replaces the conventional torque converter. It is exactly what Mercedes does with their AMG Speedshift MCT transmissions.
I fully agree with you about the color matched cladding, it makes the car look more upscale and gives it a fuller presence, which I feel is what people want in an SUV.
It looks so much better with the color matched cladding! I wonder why Mazda thought Americans wouldn’t want it. At least make it an $300 option or something.
I usually let our dog drive while I nap in the back. For some reason, she’s missed her last three vet appointments while we keep winding up at the dog park. 😄
Color matched cladding is the way to go. I think Mazda did the right thing calling the two row variant of the CX90 a CX70. It’s going to be easy to identify a two row vs three row at Auction. The two row also has the potential of being the more sporting of an SUV
Thanks for this review. In early June, I ordered a 2025 Mazda CX-70 PHEV Premium in the new Melting Copper Metallic color with the Greige leather interior (all Mazda vehicles allocated to dealers in my region had black interiors!). And I agree that the color-matched body cladding looks better; I’ll let you know next week if my PHEV has its trim in black.
I just purchased the CX 70 3.3 turbo "Premium" a week ago. Those are sort of tough to find in the Pacific Northwest. Like it so far but the big screen and toggle circle takes some getting used to
You can always have your spedo in the middle you have to go to settings, displays, instrument cluster, and then click always show Iactivsense and it will be on. Personally I like the look of it better
Notice in the video the set of golf clubs in the back. They have to go in at an angle. Gives you an idea of how narrow the space is for such a big car. In many of the other 2 and 3 row competitors to the Mazda, you can actually or almost fit a set of golf clubs in sideways. A Subaru Outback actually has a wider back storage area and it is a much smaller car. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but if you and a buddy, or couple buddies go golfing, it really makes a difference being able to put the clubs in sideways and stack them on top of each other. Something you can't seem to do with this pretty large vehicle. Maybe if you removed the Driver and all the woods you could do it.
Couldn’t you just put the seats down in the back row of the CX-90 so you can still have the extra seats and have the same cargo space? Why get rid of them?
there is a gap on the floor when the 3rd row is folded, plus w/captain's chairs, the CX-90 has a gap in the middle of the 2nd row chairs. The CX-70 eliminates these gaps and gives you a solid, enclosed load space. And no pesky 3rd row for those that don't need it (like me).
as a CX60 owner I don't understand why they didn't just use the rear end from that car instead of the bulbous CX90 one, I think it would look so much better especially with the new front bumper
I have one older kid and a dog and recently got the CX-90 Select trim. I keep my dog in a crate in the back and the CX-70 doesn’t have air vents back there as pointed out in this review. Also, I think you can get a better deal on CX-90’s because the CX-70 has a little more demand because it’s new. I paid around $38K for the CX-90 select trim and got 1.9% promotional APR.
It looks fairly slick. I’m a fan of Mazda styling and vehicle dynamics. Why do we want to touch the screen to answer the phone and reach down and away to adjust media volume or cycle through presets when those controls are on the wheel and do not require us to look away from the road? 95+% of the time in my last 4-5 vehicles I used the wheel controls instead of looking away from the road and reaching down towards the floor. I do want body color matched cladding. No black cladding for me. It wouldn’t have killed them to add cooled seats in the 2nd row. They can also throw in a second wireless charging pad for the passenger. I know a couple people in the market and I’m going to recommend they take a look at this option.
I really think that mazda made the perfect non performance 2 row suv. Unless you want a x5m or a gle 53 or 63 amg this is a better looking and as a better interior
Coming from a 39 yo 5'8" 150 lbs RCAF guy who learned @ CFB Borden (Circled Pine) by myself, you're leaving torque on the tee box Yuri. Your bending of the knees from the address position works against you (range/distance), because if you were more upright / pivoting your shoulders more so than the hips... an additional 10-30 yds could be in the cards. Takes flexibility, tough quads & tough lower back. But doable.
Yuri thank you for being true to what this vehicle is” not a BMW X5 competitor/substitute”. So many reviewers have done a dis-service by trying to match this up to a BMW X5 or Audi Q7. This is premium from the world of Toyota Hylander or a Ford Explorer. It competes with the likes of MDX etc.
Well they brought an X5 (along with an RX and a Jeep GC) to one of their press events to compare the rear cargo room and brag about how they removed the third row from another model and called it a different model. Maybe they did a disservice to their customers.
@@TheStraightPipes Sarcasm? They are in entirely different classes and I doubt they’re scared. The CX-90 feels less agile, has a rougher ride, engine, and transmission, feels more cramped, has worse isolation, and is way more affordable.
Good to hear about the transmission tuning updates! We left disappointed when we tested the CX-90 and ended up with a Palisade. The Mazda is so gorgeous…
This fake chainlink grille panel thing has to stop.. Insane to think a $60k+ vehicle has big giant black plastic blanks in there is crazy. Just get the CX-90 and flip the seats down. I love what Mazda is doing overall, but too many idiot decisions like this will bury the brand.
Mazda South africa should consider bringing this masterpiece in our market, i do believe it will sell pretty well, more especially having a chance to spec it the way we want like the one Yuri is driving.
I have the CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus in Platinum Quartz with a June 2024 build date, does not disappoint. It's taking everything in me not to tune it with a JB4 from Burger Motor Sports to get that 392WHP and 452WTQ. Mazda needs to pull from the BMW Playbook like with the M340 Xdrive and come out with like a Mazda Speedline(made up) CX-90 with more power and better brakes, tuned suspension and launch control with more power.
color matched cladding just looks WAY more expensive. So many manufacturers ignore this. There are only a few car companies that even give you the option to get this trim painted from the factory. Kudos to Mazda for giving us options - but the PHEV should also get the option. Especially with how much these cars cost.
Hahaha, Yuri, the ads that showed up was all Mazda! That is kind of a sign that they know they are on the right track because usually I see opposing competition ads on your videos but like I said this time it was pure Mazda all the way.. Hahaha
I really love this CX-70 it is an amazing car and it is certainly better than CX-90 due to its bumpers and all of that :) Oh and most definitely the color matched plastic cladding is just THE WAY to go. (Please Mazda, even offer that in the CX-30) Now my complaints (which is only one): I think this shouldn't have been a separate model, but instead just options added to the CX-90, you know "Third Row Seats: Yes or No", "Sport Design Bumpers: Yes or No" and "Melting Copper Metallic Paint: Yes or No" and make the CX-70 just a slightly redesigned CX-60. Why? Because not everyone wants to drive the luxury Mazdas and have a 6153848 meter long car. Besides, the CX-90 exists, this even costs the same as that, so just bringin over the CX-60 to fit between the CX-5 and the CX-90 was a no brainer in my mind. But, oh well, I'll have to wait till the next gen CX-5 to have a normally sized car with current Mazda luxury (You know, the current CX-5 is more like 3rd gen Mazda 3 luxury than 4th gen Mazda 3 (and all other current Mazdas) luxury) or perhaps even a RWD Mazda 6 with this level of luxury? 👀 (Mazda please, make a new Mazda 6, we are begging you :( )
No people weren't begging, that's why it was canceled. If they had made this a CX60 like vehicle they would've had to cancel their#1 name plate, the CX5.
@@GregHall-v1nI see the point about the CX-5 but in Europe and Australia they sell both the CX-60 and the CX-5 because the CX-60 is bigger and more expensive
@Bmontepeque11 That's true, turns out Mazda has said they didn't want a vehicle like that because the CX50 is virtually the same size as the 60. Maybe when the redesign the 50 they'll make it smaller somehow to make room for a CX60 like vehicle. What may be the answer is to put the next gen. CX50 on the new platform. But who knows, by then Mazda may have gone all EV. I hope not.
'60 and '80 are used in different markets that have different consumer tastes (Asia and Europe)...basically ROW. Also, the '60 would overlap into the CX-5/50 market.
@@K03sportwell actually no, the cx60 would not overlap the CX-5 as it's a good 7 or 8 in longer, and has completely different engines and transmissions. That is exactly the two row mid-size crossover that is missing from Mazda's lineup to bridge the gap between a CX-5 / cx-50, and the new cx90. So if you own a CX-5 / cx50 and simply needed a bigger second row and more cargo space, but didn't want the gigantic footprint of the CX 70 / 90, you would now have to go to competitors and buy a Nissan Murano, Subaru outback, Honda passport, or Hyundai Santa Fe, because Mazda doesn't offer anything in that segment / size.
is this and the cx90 still oddly harsh for the class of vehicle? I love the way they look but for a family hauler I'm more interested in the comfort vs sportiness.
Cargo area climate vents are super nice for long grocery store runs in hot climates, like from the central Palm Springs and back from the only Costco which is in Palm Desert. Or for pets. Thanks for addressing the lack of them in this, although they're weirdly low in the CX-90, so not sure how effective they are. When I test drove the 90, my only complaint was the intrusive engine noise, which I've since heard is largely piped in. Hopefully it's defeatable. Stupid corporate decisions.
Can’t believe they mailed this one in.. simply take a cx90 and put the back seats down. This should have been the size of rdx and gv70… or slightly bigger. Taking about about 15 inches from the rear they also could have gotten rid of the bulge/bubble
Thanks for the review and agree with just about everything you said minus the comment on Tesla White interiors...or any white interior for that matter. I cannot wait until car manufacturers get away from this atrocious, and impractical design and start offering more color other than black, beige, grey (and sometimes white). At least some of the makers like Genesis are doing it right with some green, blue, red, brown interiors.
Just turned 2k miles on my turbo premium plus. Overall, love the vehicle, but I have a growing list of issues I hope will be addressed: 1. Wireless charging never works, so hopefully a software update will eventually fix. When I place iPhone on it, it opens my apple wallet. Lol, maybe Mazda is looking for more money... 2. Rattles 🤬! Something annoying in console area I can't pin down yet (faint and high pitched), and something in the rear seats (maybe more). I see others with rear seat noise so I'll point that out to dealer. I do notice the rear seats vibrate (left to right) quite a bit when driving so not sure what that's all about? 3. Something not great in powertrain when starting slowly. Like a hesitation between 1st and 2nd gear. Does not do the same in sport mode (but can’t set sport mode as default). Good luck owners - Hope Mazda and dealers transparently address these issues.
RE: Your golf swing. You are not getting fully through with your weight in your swing. You should be able to lift the back foot and tap the toe on the ground to make sure that all your weight has ended up onto your front side at the end of your swing. This will greatly reduce your tendency to push the ball right, slicing.
Yuri, awesome job! Is it 150 lbs less than the CX-90? And, did you feel that the transmission was silky in the city (lowest gears, under 30 mph)? Thanks!!!
The main reason I didn't get a Mazda CX 70 recently was due to how they placed the engine. Mazda prides itself on their driving dynamics which is why I imagine they placed the inline 6 after the front axle. But from a serviceability and reliability standpoint, the rear cylinders are not accessible. They have so much room in front of the axle. So, it puzzles me why they took an engine that is smooth and reliable to a position it would be unreliable. I personally think the black cladding looks better. It brings contrast which is why many trucks have a bottom black strip as an option. The cladding also becomes expendable.

Hahaha, Yuri, the ads that showed up was all Mazda! That is kind of a sign that they know they are on the right track because usually I see opposing competition ads on your videos but like I said this time it was pure Mazda all the way.. Hahaha
Ya I saw they’re throwing cx70 ads on anyone watching any Mazda videos this week and last week!

I really love this CX-70 it is an amazing car and it is certainly better than CX-90 due to its bumpers and all of that :)
Oh and most definitely the color matched plastic cladding is just THE WAY to go. (Please Mazda, even offer that in the CX-30)
Now my complaints (which is only one): I think this shouldn't have been a separate model, but instead just options added to the CX-90, you know "Third Row Seats: Yes or No", "Sport Design Bumpers: Yes or No" and "Melting Copper Metallic Paint: Yes or No" and make the CX-70 just a slightly redesigned CX-60.
(Mazda please, make a new Mazda 6, we are begging you :( )
No people weren't begging, that's why it was canceled.
@Bmontepeque11 That is NEVER happening. K kreifels recently released a video saying that Mazda has officially wrote it off forever.
I hope not.
With a manual transmission option! Please!!
I have one complaint..IT'S NOT THE CX-60!!!
Me Too!
Luckily it is not a CX-60
One complaint. It’s a 90 without the third row. So now I waiting on a 60…
Cargo area climate vents are super nice for long grocery store runs in hot climates, like from the central Palm Springs and back from the only Costco which is in Palm Desert.
Any news on this? Can you turn off the input?
Color matched cladding on everything!
anyone have any insights on the PROS/CONS of PLUG IN HYBRID vs Inline 6 non hybrid?
Great swing! Maybe you should sneak in golf content into every video, Yuri 😆
There is a setting you can turn on to always enable Mazda sense driving screen.
hey guys which car did you find had the best acceleration and engine feel ?
Sofyan in the straight pipes review!
LMFAO ayo what was Jakob wearing at 18:40?????
Hi. Great review! But no one is reviewing about having to get the SD card. Do you need to purchase the SD card to operate the infotainment system?
What happened to stuffing named boxes in the trunk?
It took up so much time to film and with us having kids now it’s a lot more simple for us to just skip it.
That's been a long time since they did that
0:18 nice swing, what course was that in Palm Springs?
Indian wells
Are there no pickup / decline call buttons on the steering wheel lol? I wouldn't want to click the touch screen while driving.
There’s a rotary wheel you can use.
Ya just twist the dial on click and press down. Or on the wheel I think there’s a button
@@TheStraightPipes Our CX5 has buttons on the steering wheel, did they remove that in the new models? Whyyyyyyy would they do that >.
2:19 as far as I know, the transmission is a launch-clutch AT without torque converter.
Can’t believe they mailed this one in.. simply take a cx90 and put the back seats down. This should have been the size of rdx and gv70… or slightly bigger. Taking about about 15 inches from the rear they also could have gotten rid of the bulge/bubble
What would you have called the cx-90 with no back row.
@@TheStraightPipescx nine-0
@@TheStraightPipes Still a CX-90?
@@TheStraightPipes How 'bout CX-90 Sport! - It's a trim level.. not a whole new model number.
Is this a serious question? Lol@@TheStraightPipes
Nice shout out to Raitis!
Bought the cX 60 inline 6 diesel (EU) jet black , black interior, black rims 👌
cx-60 in Europe but this is same cx-70 in USA and Canada
Crazy how the trunk looks so much bigger than a RAV4's yet they're about the same volume (at least listed spec)
The CX-90's bumper with less fake plastic vents looks better to me.
How’s that turbo engine! Too early to say or, ok?
You and Jakub should do a road trip top gear style
Thanks for the review and agree with just about everything you said minus the comment on Tesla White interiors...or any white interior for that matter. I cannot wait until car manufacturers get away from this atrocious, and impractical design and start offering more color other than black, beige, grey (and sometimes white). At least some of the makers like Genesis are doing it right with some green, blue, red, brown interiors.
Love the looks of the cx70, and the cargo space. I currently own a cx50 and im please, i may in the future get the cx70 😅
I'm looking forward to the CX70 vs Atlas Cross Sport comparison.
The Atlas Cross is so slow compared to the CX
Just turned 2k miles on my turbo premium plus. Overall, love the vehicle, but I have a growing list of issues I hope will be addressed:
Where and how do i make the color match cladding complaint? It just looks so good.
Yuri, awesome job! Is it 150 lbs less than the CX-90? And, did you feel that the transmission was silky in the city (lowest gears, under 30 mph)? Thanks!!!
Felt way better in the city yes than the first cx90s we drove
It's about 40 lbs lighter. You lose the third row but gain foam and more plastic.
@@th003g Is it any quieter than the cx90?
The main reason I didn't get a Mazda CX 70 recently was due to how they placed the engine. Mazda prides itself on their driving dynamics which is why I imagine they placed the inline 6 after the front axle. But from a serviceability and reliability standpoint, the rear cylinders are not accessible. They have so much room in front of the axle. So, it puzzles me why they took an engine that is smooth and reliable to a position it would be unreliable.
I personally think the black cladding looks better. It brings contrast which is why many trucks have a bottom black strip as an option. The cladding also becomes expendable.
