Russian Prisoners of War Reveal Why They Came to Ukraine

  • Kyiv Post journalist Anna Neplii recently visited the Zahid-1 camp for Russian prisoners of war where she spoke to some of Moscow’s troops who came to fight in Ukraine.
    As well as seeing the conditions they’re kept in at Ukraine’s only POW camp, she also gained some startling insights into why some of the men did - and didn’t - want to go to war.
    For some of the POWs, their future is highly uncertain - some have not yet been included on POW lists compiled by international organisations and others say they have no chance of returning home as they’ve already been branded as traitors for surrendering.
    One even claimed that the Russian Ministry of Defense was denying a soldier by his name had ever existed.
    Journalist: Anna Neplii
    Cameraman: Yakiv Liashenko

    It's difficult to understand or believe the young man who was in prison for drugs really wanted to turn his life around and have a fresh start when the idea of killing innocent people would give him that. There's no way a rational person can wrap their head around this reasoning. Long live the heroes of Ukraine 🇺🇦

    Im from the US, and I have someone who is very special to me in Kyiv. I actually got the chance to visit Kyiv and spend a week with my friend Kateryna in 2021. Kyiv is absolutely beautiful.
    The reason I feel like I have something to say, and it’s totally unrelated to anything in the video but I keep hearing this nonsense that the russian language was being repressed in Ukraine. I knew a bunch of Ukrainians, that were friends with russians before the war. No one was trying to stop or repress russians from speaking russian. I remember them speaking in russian 90% of the time out of respect for the russians, and they’d switch to Ukrainian when it was just Ukrainians. they never tried to repress the russian language, even after the annexation of crimea. The Ukrainians were always so respectful. I came to like a lot of the russian friends she had. But then the war started and I talked to them and they were supportive of the war. I learned a lot about Ukraine and russia before the war, and now I’m completely obsessed with it, because I’m very concerned that this is absolutely a problem for the whole world if russia wins this war and Ukraine have to give up even one town of territory. I’m kinda ranting here, and just hope that the US does send some more aid over to Ukraine, because if we don’t, we will deal with it on our doorstep soon enough.

    There were circulating reports that Russia refuse to exchange POW anymore. Every POW returned to Russia started talking 'how good they were treated in POW camps' to their "tovarisch". Russia certainly hate it. To stop the idea of "good treatment in POW camp", POW exchange canceled indefinitely. Which means, those who are "unlucky" to be taken POW are considered as dead.

      This is false, these people who are captured are traitors because they allowed themselves to be captured. There is a common rule in place that if you are outmanned and outgunned, go out in battle rather than let yourself be captured to become a propaganda tool for the Nazis. These POW in this video is a good example, they are being recorded and put for international amusement instead of going down taking out as many Nazis as possible. These men are dead to the fatherland and dead to their families, thats why like in this video you hear the mother say she already spoke with her son or about him because she knows he is now a traitor, not their son anymore.

The fact that the POWs identities are kept secret, and that the authorities allow the journalists access, both strongly suggest that basic human rights are being observed. When there was POW exchanges the fat orcs were going back to the rats nest and telling the TV interviewer how badly they were treated in captivity. Volodymyr Zolkin has many POW interviews where they say they are being treated well and the video of them telling ruZZian TV how they were beaten and starved. One showed a skinny orc when he was interviewed and an overweight one when the scum appeared on ruZZian TV. He looked like he was getting seconds or even thirds in the Ukrainian POW camp.

    Interesting to hear from Donbas that they felt hunger and it was the reason to attack Ukraine. But a week before the war (literally, a week before) I heard different story from the people from Donbas. That they had everything, they were modern and rich, and because of that they wanted to be separated from Ukraine. And honestly, many Donbas people always got a higher salaries. So, the question is: why you changed your mind, boy, and now you are telling us stories about poor and hungry Donbas. I think RF teached you well how to lie looking into someone’s eyes.
    And this young man, prisoned before, is absolutely sure that he did good job, killing people, and he really believes that invasion to the territory of other country is the object to defend his own country. Ukraine never attacked anyone, but where RF presents other unions appear within the countries and the military action start in there. How many neighbors of RF have the same story? And how many of them lost their territories which now count as a territory of RF?

    • @sweetvictory5643
      @sweetvictory5643 5 месяцев назад

      You're right. In Donbas most people earned the highest salaries in Ukraine. When in 2014 the Russian army invaded Donbas and Luhansk regions, many people from there fled to the west of Ukraine and started buying houses and apartments that were much, much cheaper than in Donbas and Luhansk. Now about the reason so many men want to kill others. Because it's in their nature. In a peaceful time such men would be prosecuted and imprisoned, but during this war Putin encouraged them to torture and murder Ukrainians for a very good pay. Therefore for all those evil Russian men it's a win-win situation....

But a citizen’s unconditional support of a wartime leader, even in an illegal war where the command issues illegal orders and the soldier obeys them illegally, is likely a world-wide phenomenon. Well, shipping them to the front line is certainly one way to make room in prison for new alleged criminals.
