- On this installment of the RGC Course Vlogs, Erik Anders Lang takes on his new home course, Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, TX. The front 9 was rocky. Will he recover?
Known locally as “Muny,” Lions is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was Austin’s first public golf course, and was the first golf course to racially integrate south of the Mason-Dixon. It was added to the list of 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust of Historic Preservation in 2017.

I cant tell you how much i enjoy the course vlog series, not only do they keep me buckled over laughing cause we all can relate, but I strive to adopt rule 17b like you have my dude. Admire your spirit and drive for connecting people thru golf. Ive been a friend of Bill's about the same time you have and I just love seeing the success of others who came from similar back stories. Lions eats my lunch quite often. Double bogeyed 16&17 the other day. Headed into 18 with an 82 and ended up tripling! Course looks easy at a glance but will bite. Love this place!

You haven’t been in Texas long. Always get it on the ground early when it’s hard around the greens. I’m playing Lion’s for the first time Monday. Can’t wait. Live the video.

EAL your course vlogs are great. Playing on camera is one thing, but playing on camera and posting a round you’re not fond of is another thing. The best thing about golf is it makes you vulnerable and you either execute or don’t. But either way it’s a great fucking day.

Man I love Lions Muni. Started my golf journey there way back in the 90’s. Loads of good golf in Austin. I miss living there.

That's true! I have even had puts that broke slightly uphill toward the river! A special place indeed.

Erik you gotta get out to Hancock park just north of the UT campus. Cool little 9 holer that has been open since 1900. No tee times and only 12-15 to play. Unfortunately theyre trying to close it down.

The struggle is real! I went down to my local field yesterday, hitting some balls for first time in 4 months. Hit a 3/4 gap wedge about 80yds and hooked it 35 yds too! 🙈 It's gonna be a long road back 😭

Are you regretting calling this your new home course? Check out Vaaler Creek over in Blanco. Always in good shape, no matter the time of year. One of my local favs for sure. Star Ranch up in Hutto is really nice also.
Head out to Bastrop and play Wolfdancer and Pine Forest golf clubs. I used to play Pine Forest in high school in the late 80s.

You mentioned green light on the eleventh, Take a look at Golfmates Old Man Pat (OMP) uses the traffic light system. 80 year old golfer
You should take a quick drive down to buda and play plum creek. Home of Texas state and plays host to 3 high schools (including the one I graduated from and my brother attends). Not sure if it’s famous or anything it it’s a fun track.

The first course you mentioned could also describe perfectly the muni course I grew up playing in upstate NY. Had a flashback and laugh as I read this one lol

Lol that's a good one. Pretty sure I remember him being fitted for those when he was at TM...and was playing much better golf. Those blades look sleek but man they don't offer much leeway on a crappy swing 😂

I played a semi poor round of golf the other weekend the only real glimmer of hope was, I got my first eagle. Par 5 but for us mortals it will do.
