- On this installment of the RGC Course Vlogs, Erik Anders Lang takes on his new home course, Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, TX.
Known locally as “Muny,” Lions is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was Austin’s first public golf course, and was the first golf course to racially integrate south of the Mason-Dixon. It was added to the list of 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust of Historic Preservation in 2017.

As a native Texan after watching you play beautiful courses with what appears
as easy, then playing local courses like you did in this video. It really encouraged me that maybe I am not so horrible and Texas just has a lot of really tough courses. 😂
This is definitely true. Texas golf is tough. Hard pan fairways, strong winds, grainy greens, it’s a grind!
Grew up in Austin. Played a lot of golf at Lions and the 9-hole course Handcock. Probably played this course 1000 times. So watching this video was like a blast from the past.

Great video. I loved the way you described the greens, "the character is good, I don't mind it." I couldn't agree more! Muni is a total gem with so much character, you can't get mad about such grainy, unpredictable greens. Maybe we'll pair up as singles out there one day, cheers!

Welcome to town!!! Muny always kicks me in the teeth and the greens can be tough to read because most of the holes slope towards the lake. Your 2 putt on 6 that you though that was downhill is actually more uphill since you were putting away from Lake Austin.

So great to have you here in Austin! The muni courses around here are pretty great/fun for muni. There's a few courses just outside Austin definitely worth visiting as well (Shadowglen and Plum Creek)

that grass really looks amazing. Everywhere here in pebble all the courses only have green grass so seeing that color is pretty cool

You can do it Eric! I did this last week. First 9 hole I was playing golf with a pool noodle it felt like. (Back to Back cold tops with the driver. Oh yeah it was awesome). Then I turned into a tour pro on the back 9, it was amazing!

As somewhat of a beginner to this game with only a few rounds under my belt out at riverside I would say that just being out on the course bad shots and all is a joy. Once again thanks for showing us..... it’s ok. But I will say those few great shots I had do make you wanna dive into starting to practice and get better. #nokeepingscorefornow...lol
Hey we've all been there. But then there are days like yesterday where I started off with eagles on both the first two holes thanks to a newly tweaked 3 hybrid and two very short par 4's (the course is in a Senior community and is only 4100 yards). Still, I had easy putts from 200 yards out and that's a great way to start any day. Somedays we jump right into a great game, sometimes we start slow and our game sneaks up on us later, and sometimes it says not today fool. That's golf. Showing the bad days is just as important as showing the great ones. And sometimes, it's more entertaining. 😂 I certainly see myself in many of the mistakes you made out there that day.

Erik you should swing down to San Antonio, once of the municipal courses (Brackenridge) is a Tillinghast design and the oldest public course in the state. The front 9 is all original as far as I know. I play twilights there to remind myself that I would die at winged foot.

I lived on Enfield across the street from Jerry Jeff Walker for a few years, and volunteered at Lions. Can't tell you how many times I've come into 16 a couple over ready to break 80 and go triple double double or something stupid. tough course for a draw hitter, and not easy around the greens. Beautiful location, lots of great people to play with, but tough course for me
Hole 5 is such a nemesis hole. Never thought to play it up the 6th fairway though 🤦🏻♂️
I played my first ever round there last year in June. Been absolutely hooked ever since. Make sure you visit Pool Burger afterwards next time!

I live about 20-30 minutes away but never played here. I tend to play Avery Ranch or Falconhead two really good courses but need to play early in the morning. Can be 5hr+ rounds after 10AM
That's me in a nut shell 51 on the front & on the back Erik will shoot a 45 0r 46 & still keep it under 100. Keep the faith bro !!!
