      Give me a break - This was yet another year when a grammy member has a daughter whose boyfriends cousin knows a guy that is into Metal and he said that he likes this band. Or like opening up a phone book randomly and pointing in it and saying; "THIS one". Plus the "category" is a joke. Why not "Best Metal Album", why? Because these idiots don't believe Metal bands create "Albums" as a whole, they want Hit Singles. Believe me, I used to be "hopeful" that the grammys would get their shit together, but after talking with 3 members of the organization, the rest of the members care more about popularity (time constraints, music that's easy on the ears etc.) than actual music or any respect for Metal (or Progressive Rock). Just look at the audience, most went to get a smoke or take a breather from the over-hyped conveyor belt of crap people consider music. Awards don't keep Metal alive, its the"people" from all over the world that keep it going.
      There are TONS upon tons of Metal bands, and "1" band is going to represent the "best performance"?

    • @jbk007311
      @jbk007311 5 лет назад +5

      @@mvunit3
      In some ways I agree with you, but metal shows in Atlanta don't have any trouble selling tickets. If you want to look popularity of Metal (obviously not mainstream) you can go to Banger TV RUclips channel or Metaheads Amino app.

    • @mvunit3
      @mvunit3 5 лет назад +4

      @@jbk007311 - Metal shows probably have no problem selling tix anywhere ;). Though I never said Metal "isn't" popular, but the best of it wont be found on the radio, more likely a podcast or internet radio station that caters to classic and new music. There are no "shores" around the world that are safe from Metal, as metal bands are practically from every continent now, as seen on "Banger TV". Though I have a few bones to pick about Banger's knowledge on the origins of Prog Metal, they do help metal (and subgenres) stay alive (for those that haven't checked them out: ruclips.net/user/BangerFilmsInc ).
      Again, for the past maybe 25+ years, Metal no longer needs to thrive on popularity among the mainstream, as the genre thrives on its fans. I'm more into the underground and obscure bands myself, but even bands like Opeth and Meshuggah are considered "mainstream" these days (which is still weird to me), while others who have been around even longer are not well known. And then you have the bands that are still fighting on that started in the 70's.
      I've been a Metalhead since 1981, and I write about its rich history (especially Prog Metal) for fun and still, I'm a bit behind on many bands from the past 2 years or so. That's why, as I mentioned before, its almost ridiculous to have "1" band represent the whole of Metal, because it has soo many subgenres and bands (just go to my channel, and pick a "themed" playlist and find almost all subgenres of Metal, Rock and Progressive Rock).
      But Metal will always survive, even if the record industry is messed up, and long after those "flavors of the weak" that are championed by the grammy's are dead and gone. Metal (and Prog) will always challenge the listener, think outside of the box and break rules to keep it all going, and it has "longevity". Some metalheads are stuck in the 80's or 90's, but the music keeps pushing forward to find new fans, even someone like me at 55 \m/.

    Much repsect for high on fire. Never really heard their music i know they are instrumental on helping form mastodon in a sense and its cool to see them win a grammy after mastodon did since they're all cool friends. With that being said i was hoping trivium wouldve won. Next time brothas

    Kinda underwhelming considering the venue was 1/3 full. Very disrespectful to stick it on some kind of pre show bullshit. I bet they wouldn't have done that to Metallica. If actors can sit through a long Oscars ceremony, I'm sure music artists can do the same too. Great for HOF though, very underrated band in my opinion.

    Sad to see best metal performance with most of the audience gone. Metal is all but dying from the popular scene. Back to the underground we go. Besides metal is much better anyway when the real Heshers stick around.
    Congratulations to Pike and High on Fire. You came along way boys.
    Metal forever and hail pike.

    Congrats to Matt, Dez, & Jeff for the award. HOF is such a massively talented band. The trip Matt was talking about was the hike they had to make from the seats given to them in the balcony. Disrespectful. What? They couldn’t play a HOF track from the album as they walked up? Why should I be excited about a boring Tomahawk song like some people on here? None of those dudes were ever in Tomahawk. Absolutely lame. And disrespectful. At least the proper band got the award this time. Baby steps I suppose.
