In the latest in the ongoing Back & Forth series, metal god Matt Pike of Sleep/High on Fire sits down with comedian Rob Delaney on a recent trip to Los Angeles. The pair met to discuss hard hitting topics that ranged from newly minted sobriety to bulldozing guitar riffs to kale and cholesterol, taking many stops in between. Did you know there is a time that it is socially acceptable to shit yourself? Matt Pike explains in the video above.

Matt Pike is absolutely one of the most under-appreciated people in Heavy music, his contributions are truly timeless. I'm glad that he has hung in and stayed true to his well being.

I used to see Matt a lot in Oakland when I lived there. I have to say he's one of the nicest dudes around. No rock star persona B.S. I saw him the day that he was on his way to rehab. He bought an acoustic guitar from my store and seemed excited to start a new chapter.
Did merch for those guys on the blessed Black wings tour (2005), was an eye opener for sure

I was a bottomed out drunk since i was 11 yrs .old .I knew i wanted to be a die hard alcoholic the first time i got drunk .I'm 41yrs old now and have been sober for over 6 yrs. This September the13th will be 7 .Being a musician myself this is very inspiring...

before my old band (theHeartland) went on our first tour I worked at a detailing shop called Buckeye Nissan. Every time we'd get a new truckload of cars, which was a couple times a week, the first thing i'd do is take them to the Speedway gas station up the block and fill up the gas tank with a company card.
So I got a speedy rewards card and every time I filled up a car I got points....long story short I kept 7 dudes hydrated and fed for 43 days on JUST speedy rewards points hot dogs, tornados, and fountain pops.

Matt Pike had one hell of a beer belly. Wonder if it will go away if he remains sober. He's probably consuming like 3,000 less calories. Good luck to him and I hope he keeps rocking for a long time.
Often the beer bellys don't go away after a history of severe drinking because it's actually swollen liver and intestines from symptoms of cirrhosis, and not fat.

I watched this interview when it came out and they're some of my favourite guys. I loved hearing their stories, but this sucks because I'm an alcoholic and I've tried since before this interview to quit and I just can't seem to get over my problem. I've tried to kill myself, I've wished myself dead, I've broken down more times than I thought was possible. I want this to be over but I can't seem to go more than a month before I just reset back to being a fucking alky.
