The Mirror scene sounds a bit too rushed, especially that 'Look at your face in the mirror'... It doesn't sound like the Phantom trying to convince Christine to step into the mirror, but more like rushing and forcing her to.
Yes, something by was a bit off with this performance compared to the next day with Holly-Anne Hull. I’ll post some excerpts (audio only unfortunately) later this week.
I find it so owe it’d that he keeps singing I am your angel of music, come to me angel of music” when she’s already in the mirror and it’s shut & raoul is busting thru the door
Haha, I hear a bit of Ramin in certain places (ping) with James Gant…probably why I like his performance on this better than Jon Robyn’s (also superb) version.
Added a couple of audio only “Phantom of the Opera”, “Overture” from the next day’s show. I’ll try to edit/add a few more audio only from these (Final Lair, etc) over the next few days.
How boring and static the orchestra sounds, especially from 01:10 on, where are the strings that play themselves up, the trumpets and timpani that set great accents? Oh yes, these are of course no longer there, cut so that Mr. Mackintosh can draw more money from the production.
the sound is so weak and lifeless. a gorgeous, classic score is not meant to be played by a band. "iTs nOt fEaSibLe tO hiRe a BiG oRcHesTrA", but sweeney todd can TOUR with 26 pit members? like come on -_-
I was awed by the Broadway performance…at times the London orchestra sounded a bit thin and other times, it seemed they simply cranked up the volume of the amp to make up for that.
They originally cut everything due to covid restrictions. I have listened to both the original soundtrack, and this one, and they sound the same to me. I am a musician, have played in a wind symphony, and an orchestra. I know music like the back of my hand. They sound the same. Don't hate on this musical just because they tried something different. I love how high tech and fancy the show is now.
Agree that it’s not up to par with what was on Broadway (see POTO on my channel recorded on the same iPhone from 3/2023)…the 27 v 14 musicians difference is significant.
I just saw this on west end three weeks ago... the cast then was very different... and much better. I'm not sure why, but this christine's voice (though pretty) lacked the operatic quality required of the character. Her high notes were lovely but it just... wasn't powerful. The mirror scene too... just... fell flat (like the "things have changed, Raoul" was just... incredibly emotionless). Not impressed, though I know christine is a hard role to fill.
@@avercado4132 Ah I see…yeah kinda sticks out, but maybe she just had a bad day. Can happen to the best of us…or they chose a bad audio for the title song. Who knows? But yeah she’s not really powerful, but still has a pretty voice
Just so it is clear to everyone, this is not the brilliant original, this is a touring production which replaced the original in London, and so has compromised sets, and reduced orchestra of 14 musicians (the original always had 27) and frankly is a mess, put on by greedy producer Cameron Macintosh so that he wouldn’t have to pay as much
@@orlando5789 Why do you think it was replaced? And it was not for artistic merit or bettering the show, as cheapening the sets and reducing the orchestra is not evidence of artistic intent; actually it is of a budgetary one, so it cannot be called better in any adult sense. And yes, some costumes changed to. And a half sized orchestra cannot be better than a full sized one…..!!!!! This production changed to line the pockets of its producer, Cameron Macintosh. End of.
You can barely see her face in this video? And she’s actually really gorgeous and has got an amazing voice shes really talented. Honestly this comment is just straight up racism.
Went to see this in February absolutely brilliant and can't wait to go again.
Went to see this with my college mates today. Was the best thing I've ever seen! ❤❤

I actually quite like this updated set design, cant wait to see it next year
Are the stair cases in the back new??
yes
@@printeredlasered awesome effect!
Right! I love it adds more depth I think
Looks like projections?
They are a more simplified (cheaper) design than the original travelators

I'm going to go watch this in October at his majesty's theater, and although this sounds ok I hope it sounds better in person.
Have a great time!! Nothing beats live and in person!!
The title song has always been a recording in both London and NYC
@@Tiara86794is it really? :o
I remember reading that only the last high note is a recording.
Ive been twice this year it's actually amazing, the singers are better too
2:45 you can hear the pre record end and the live feed begin
I am having trouble hearing the end of the prerecord and the switch to live feed. Can you clarify where?
Anyone else hear Ramin on 3:13 ?
Haha, I hear a bit of Ramin in certain places (ping) with James Gant…probably why I like his performance on this better than Jon Robyn’s (also superb) version.
Is it me or is this hollys track being played?
I posted an audio of James and Holly from the next day. To me, it’s different in parts but I haven’t compared tracks in detail.
The candelabras don't slide sideways after they ve risen up anymore?
They are now risen up in the final spot…no sliding in London.
@@ed56533 that is... god awful. Small detail but still, god awful.
Is this from a full show video?
No, they were very strict on recordings. I have the three videos I posted plus a number of audio only recordings for this and the next day’s show.
Will you upload those audios?
@@kaitlynrowena5463 Sure, most likely will add later this week some recordings from both shows! I've heard interest from you and a few others too!

Saw on Broadway many times with Michael Crawford, just saw it in London….the orchestra was not up to par…
That’s because the orchestra has been reduced from 27 musicians to 14.
@@TheCoastermann thanks for your reply. That explains why the orchestra didn’t seem as good as Broadway production.

The only noticeable changes are the lack of the Angel during the finale of Act1 and the reduced orchestra- Everything else is better
