@@africanfartingfrog Monica wrote the lyrics at Uli’s request. Klause couldn’t come up with lyrics, asked Uli to give it a go, who was also stymied. So Uli asked Monica to try. She was with Uli at the time and they later married. It’s a very interesting back story, for sure.
This was a poem written by Monika Dannemann, forJimi Hendrix. She was one of his girlfriends when he died and died in her apartment (possibly the last person to see him alive). She was later the girlfriend of Uli Roth of Scorpions and gave them the poem to turn into a song.
Wow! I owned this on vinyl and wore it out. The Scorpions have flat out rocked since their first album, Lonesome Crow came out with a 16 year old, wonderkind guitarist Michael Schenker blazing away. You have many great songs from them to go, try The Zoo next, another classic banger from those awesome Germans. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎶
I love 70’s Scorpions. They were pioneers and leaders of heavy rock and creating songs with softer moments mixed with super hard rock. 80’s hair bands (Scorpions should never be referred to as a ‘hair band) used this formula to create what became known as pop power ballads. Another Scorpions example of this is their song “In Trance”. Any new listeners who like this song would definitely like In Trance as well.
Lyrics of this masterpiece were written by Monica Dannemman . She was last Jimi Hendrix's girlfriend and after that she became Uli Jon Roth's (scorpions lead guitarist at the time..) companion till she tragically suicided in 1996 when she was 50yo. Thanks to you for the first time I realized this song talks about her pain for Jimi's loss..
*WOW* Bringing back some super old Scorps! I love them! 80's concerts were the best and the Scorpions always put on an amazing show. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
The album " Love drive" was the 1st U.S. release . All prior albums were only available as imports. Most Americans weren't familiar yet. By then, they replaced Uli Roth, and changed their sound. But I'm glad people researched their old catalog.
Wow! That was down the rabbit hole😆 If you are coming up for air, might I suggest Scorpions - China White? Throbbing beat, great riffs and amazing Klaus vocals👍🏻
This is a great Scorpions song. Don't know how this one got played when the chat was requesting Lovedrive, but I've sure it will get played eventually.
This is an early Scorpions song from 1978, their 5th album 'Taken by force' ... before they had even played in N. America in 1979. "We'll burn the sky" is one of the few songs the Scorpions play live in concert from their early records. They hadn't evolved into that arena rock band that we know today... Klaus Meine (vocals) & Rudolf Schenker (guitar) who formed the Scorpions in Hannover, West Germany, were huge fans of 50's American rock n' roll and 60's British rock... When they began writing their own songs, they decided to sing in English. By the early 70's, they had gone through musical changes and graduated from psychedelic rock to more blues-based rock as they changed members... this record was the last studio album w/ lead guitarist Ulrich Roth (now Uli Jon Roth) who left the band in 1978. Rudolf's younger brother was lead guitarist Michael Schenker, who had started in the Scorpions, but went on to join British rockers U.F.O. in 1973, and became a star in that band... creating some of the most iconic 70's rock music. Michael quit U.F.O. in 1978 and briefly rejoined the Scorpions on lead guitar, but wasn't inclined to stay... but he helped record the 'Lovedrive' album in 1979 that became the Scorpions' first gold record (half million copies sold) in the USA... Lead guitarist Matthias Jabs joined that year and the Scorpions' sound changed again into more of that 80's 'big arena rock' delivery in 1980 and beyond. Michael Schenker formed his own band M.S.G. (Michael Schenker Group) and had his own success, if not as much as the Scorpions.
I didn't see them until '82 at the big O in Montreal opening for Rainbow . No Uli , but they were sooo much better than Rainbow at that time Rainbow had taken a wrong turn musically . Lol ....they (rainbow) were so bad.
@@rdhudon7469 Scorpions is a sensational live band... Matthias Jabs is an incredible lead guitarist - he doesn't get enough credit 🤘🤘🔥🔥 I did see Uli Jon Roth play a club set heavy on early Scorpions tunes... he plays real loud and it was awesome to experience!
@@sumonjamal1653 Bros , you are so lucky . I agree . Matthias Jabbs is incredible . What an epic band. It was sad seeing the demise of the once great Rainbow first hand though . really hard to sit through ......so we didn't lol .
To pick a favourite Scorpions song is nigh-on impossible, but if really pressed, over time, I think this would be mine. Excellent interpretation Asia, got it straight away. I didn't get it until it was spelled out in the lyrics!😊😊👍👍
One of their best songs ever. The best from the Uli Jon Roth era. I wish you'd have picked a better recording of this, sounded like it was muffled with too much bass. You should give the title song IN TRANCE a listen-to from another album of theirs.
The Scorpions came out during a time when I think music was at an all time low. I just did not like the hair bands of the time, but this band really stood out and I think they were special. Rock You like a Hurricane and Send Me an Angel really stand out.
Lyrics written by Monika Dannemann, Jimi Hendrix last girlfriend who then became Uli Roth's (Scorpions lead guitarist) girlfriend. She sadly ended up taking her own life.
This is good, but it is the studio version. The live version from the Tokyo Tapes is better. The lyrics were written by Monika Danneman, who was Jimi Hendrix's girlfriend and was present when he died... this was her message to Jimi.
Very surprised by the many negative reactions to this song here in the comments section. I'm not knowledgeable on the Scorpions catalogue but this is the best song I've heard from them. Close to calling it a masterpiece. And the lyrics by Dannemann and her reference to Jimi just lifts it even higher. Also makes the song kinda' extra eerie that she indeed ended her own life in the 1990's.
Meh? Maybe it will wear on you? I love everything from the Scorpions. Great band. Best album for me is Blackout but those early days with Uli on guitar are fabulous as well.
Uli Jon Roth. His melodic prowess on a guitar is second-to-none.
Legendary song! Scorpions 70s era is fabulous...
Love the Scorpions! Klaus's voice is great!
The melody soars and takes the music to another dimension spiritually and musically. Bless you both brothers & sisters
My favorite Scorpions song! written for Jimi Hendrix, they were friends with his girlfriend who helped write the lyrics
Monika Dannemann, who ended up with Uli-Jon Roth after Hendrix's ddeath

Married Roth
With the great Uli Jon Roth on lead guitar. Their live album Tokyo Tapes is beyond belief.
Indeed it is.
The 1970's/1980's were a very rare moment in time for melodic hard rock. God bless all the rockers & rollers. Joyfully yours
This gives me chills, but rocks you at the same time 🎸

Wow, I knew about the backstory, except for the suicide part? really sad to read, may she rest in peace......
Uli said he believes it was foul play not suicide. alot of stuff going on about Jimmi's death and court stuff at that time.
@@leesamuelson Good Uli also said she was too fragile to leave in this world..
Uli Jon Roth!!! Nuff said!!! Thank you so much for putting this one up here. Masterpiece!! Great choice, Asia and BJ!!
Have you listened to The Scorpions "In Your Park?" That is another of their great, if underrated, hits from the '70's...
*WOW* Bringing back some super old Scorps! I love them! 80's concerts were the best and the Scorpions always put on an amazing show. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Just one of their best, they have many

Wow!!! This one goes waaay back. Glad you found it.
Just saw them 9/19/22 at UTEP sports arena in El paso Texas! they are still amazing and kicked much azzzzz! Scorp's!

China White is a great and very heavy tune, I wish someone would react to it, classic Scorpions!
Love them 70's Scorpions. thx
Talk about a deep cut song this is it.

A real cool song from the Scorpions is "Lady Starlight" it's a beautiful ballad with a rocking instrumental ending.
A great Scorpions track. Thank you for visiting it.
Scorpions love vocalist sounds
Brilliant outro solo by Uli Jon Roth.
These guys are still great
Écoutez cette magnifique chanson en live, elle a une puissance divine 😉 (Tokyo tape)
That's a rocking' love song.
So Cool Takes me back to my early Metal Years!
\m/ can't go wrong with Scorpions
The Tokyo Tapes version is off the charts.

Uli Jon Roth on guitar
awesome !

Uli GOD Roth!!

One of the scorpions worst songs👎
