- Опубликовано: 27 июл 2023
- In today's video Paul Drew from The Studio Rats is looking at the brand new amp from Marshall the Marshall Studio JTM
The Studio JTM.
Offering the same iconic JTM sound, but more compact, packing the power you know and love, in a new portable size. The superb all-valve tone of the Studio JTM packs a punch. Creating a sound that defined a generation the Studio JTM delivers the legendary loud blend of crunch and clean recognised the world over. Like the original 30W head, the Studio JTM is loaded with two ECC83 preamp valves, two 5881 power amp valves and one ECC83 phase splitter, taking you right back to the renaissance of rock’n’roll. The Studio JTM offers the same control and versatility as older models, where simply patching channels together opens a world of all-valve tonal possibility. Hand built at our world-class factory in Bletchley, England, the Studio JTM features finger-jointed cabinets, hand-welded chassis, hand-soldered potentiometers and valve bases, and the highest quality componentry. Adorned with period-correct aesthetics from the same metal, red enamel poured “coffin” logo to its fawn fret complete with gold piping and beading, the Studio JTM beautifully nods to the 60s.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.
Thanks for the support guys!! 🎸
yo! what's up?
anyways; he never discloses if it's paid promotion/on-loan/free product/endorsement?!
it's very straightforward to do.
between us, i think it's for tax reasons.
rock-on!
1:44 Paul clearly states that Marshall have gifted this amp to him. I look forward to seeing your retraction mate!
@Marshall Is this any good? Rather than harping on and reissuing past glories, I would like to see some brand new ground breaking stuff. New Amps, new technology. We are now in 2024 ! C’mon Marshall, I know you are no longer a British Company 🇬🇧and sold out, but show us what you can do. Forwards, not backwards. It’s the wrong direction. Take a leaf out of Blackstar and follow their lead….
Cheers Marshall.
We need know is a dsl mk ii or mark iii
Sounds great, thanks for the vid! That vintage Marshall tone, it's magnificent, never gets old!
It’s great to see Marshall bringing out a new product.
Great demo Paul. Brilliant sounding amp. I was surprised at how versatile it actually is!
Excellent explanation of how this kind of four-hole Marshall works. This is the wisdom of the ages.
Paul is starting it up ;D
As a owner of Marshall 1962, I'm really intrigued by this.
Sounds mega! Great first release after the big corporate changes earlier in the year - wonderful work @marshallamps
I got really excited about that amp when you showed it had an FX loop. Nice demo, Paul.
Cool, thanks.
OMG!!!! That grind at c.6:30 with the P90 Les Paul - jaw droppingly righteous. Think I’m in love ...
p90s are just amazing
I wanted to purchase the Fender TM SR. Now I got to think again. It was a great demo!! Thanks for your time and effort with this.
My pleasure.
My God that sounds glorious. Marshall is really hitting it out of the park with the whole studio series of heads.
These studio Marshall’s are so good. I want one of each. So far have the SV.
Man this dude always gets the best out of amps.
I really like it. From all the Marshalls I owned I only kept the JMP-1 preamp (into a EL84 20/20), and OD1 sounds like a dream. That being said, the JTM sound wonderful.
I love the AC/DC style into. The tone, the distortion/compresson and tele sounds awsome. You play guitar like I wish that I could.
Cheers Tim, I’m sure you play great!
Got the combo 1x12 for £600 used in pristine condition, after watching this demo. It is glorious!. I’m very pleased, thank you, Paul.
Man... let me tell you just this :
this is exactly how an amp review should be made ! Thank you !
Glad you liked it.
A loop,I'm gonna get one, great tones paul sold!!
Feels like I'm hearing Malcolm Young play. Incredible amp and great demo!
Great job as always Paul. This amp sounds magnificent! I have the studio Plexi and Jubilee which are also great but this fills the collection. We have a 1986 JCM 800 so we never tried the studio 800. Really excited to grab one of these
Ohh id like a vintage 800
Yep I'll be getting one of those haha! Great demo.
Cheers BP
welcome, welcome, welcome. hahah
Sweeeeeet , this could be my next amp really fast… Great show Laddy… Keep on rockin
Cheers Mary.
You’re a great musician. You understand the guitar and amp combinations better than anyone I watch on RUclips. Thanks
Appreciate that.
Agreed, his videos, knowledge and talent are the best.
Love the way the Tele sounds
Always preferred other brand amps than Marshall. Now THIS is something i want to buy. I only need this and a delay, reverb and booster and I'm all set. Great review btw
Yep, I’m going to be gigging with this amp. I’ll use a wah and either a Treble booster or Tube Screamer into the front end (or both!) and a Keeley Halo or Strymon El Capistan in the loop! It’s a killer rig!
Fantastic sound
Thanks Paul. Sounds like it could be a great platform for playing slide.
Absolutely!
I tried all the Studio amps, and did not like any of them, many thanks to Sweetwater for their service and return policy. I love my Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 watt head better than any of the Studio series and it is easy to find a great used one for half the price. Using a Marshall Power Break attenuator to manage volume, a Boss RV-500 into the effects loop, and a Keeley Compressor Plus with a Boss SD-1 in front of the amp easily produces all the great Marshall sounds with better headroom and clarity. Thank you for all the great music videos Paul Drew!
sounds and looks fantastic
Great video, really enjoy your reviews
Cheers Phil
What a nice gift. Someone said to use a white marker to just mark the knobs. Carefully. Great Paul as always. I’m 2 days behind. Sorry.
That amp sounds fabulous
Looks and sounds great.
Really, really like this one !!
Love the sound of the old jtm45.
Man that Tele sounds wicked through that amp , amazing !
First thing I noticed too, amazing tone! I'm usually not a fan of teles but whoa it sounds great here!
Doesn’t it just , marshmellowy squish n spring it’s a fab tele amp
This is a great classic sounding amp. I would enjoy this all day. I'd love to hear what you think of the VHT D50.
Great sounding amp
A New Level of greatness Wow
Love it thank you
Sounds great but alas it’s way beyond my budget as I’d need the cab as well. My Katana mk2 100 gets pretty close to those vintage tones so I’ll be sticking with that. Cheers for the review though. Always good to hear new gear.
I’ve got the plexi version and I absolutely love it but I’m sorely tempted by this. Damn you Marshall.
Same.
Great demo!!! Sounds very much like Bluesbreaker... as you'd hope! I agree the knobs are not great. Shame they didn't go with the knobs from the Andertons JTM145. Sounds fantastic though!!! 😍
Thanks for watching.
Looks & sounds great...and oh toggle switches...😊
Looks great, sound pretty nice... chapeau Marshall, sweet new amp!!
Still think I´d prefer an Ampete TWO or a Divided By 13 + a variac for these kinda tones in a studio setting.
Paul - I do hope this is caprured on TONEX. Great sounds and a great demo as ever.
Not this one but we are looking at a jtm45
This is fucking amazing! Marshall just killed it with this JTM studio 20
and your wallet.
Excellent
Nice review. 👍👍
Thanks! 👍.
It sounds real good.
My wish: The Studio Rats publish a few Neural captures of this amp for the QC .. along with the speaker .. PLZ!
If I thought the direct out into a DAW for recording could sound as good as that I would consider buying it.
Beautiful sounding amp. I just ordered the head and 212 cab today. Ill definitely be adding a reverb pedal and attenuator to make it more usable. What reverb did you use for the recording?
You are an awesome player
Excellent review. For clipping, I prefer this to the Mini Jubilee. But the loudness …
Fender and Marshall sound Soo good together.Jeff Bek played a his Strat thru a Marshall stack on his 72 Beat Club apperance .Check it out.Oh And Hendrix loved his Strat and Stack combo.
Wow very impressive.
Thank you very much
Yup, getting one!
Great video and review of the latest Marshall Studio amp! As you now have all four of them, can you rate them in order of preference? Tricky decision as Marshall have really done a great job with each and every one of them!
I think I’m in love with
Good video, one thing that appears to be missing is a valve rectifier. Any sag with the amp when it's cranked? Certainly noticeable with a regular JTM45.
Tele sounds best IMO. Tone is beautiful I have to have one. Also, Paul is an amazing player, complete natural.
Amazing playing as always. I own the SV20, really considering grabbing one of these too. I think Hendrix’s favorite studio amp was actually a JTM and not the super lead that he’s usually associated with
Sounds amazing nice and squishy
Great sounding amp, lovely to see another addition to the range. I bet it's loud, maybe too loud for home use without an attenuator?
People dont half talk a lot of rubbish about build quality. Its basically an incorrect internet meme that gets repeated. I've got a DSL20CR and it's great.
I would like to see a higher end dsl equivalent, something along the lines of a friedman runt ir JJ jr, but I've seen reviews where the dsl beats those. Make that one next please Marshall.
From 1:27 onwards, I initially thought it was going to be the intro to Owner of a Lonely Heart XD
Great amp, I have it but I would add one more downside apart from the hard to see knob settings, which is the DI out doesn't do silent recording on the combo and I presume the head too, so you have to hear the amp whilst recording, fine if your playing clean pretty much, but overdriven/distorted means playing at louder more cranked volumes in a bedroom, which is difficult if not impossible. 5 watts mode is still plenty loud. A speaker has to be attached at all times or you can and probably will damage the amp. Depends on what your needs are. I live in a small flat and need silent for recording. Ways round it but I think they should have had the DI out do silent recording after all it's marketed more towards the bedroom player than the unattenuated amps of the past. It says the DI out bypasses the internal speaker of the combo which makes you think it does silent recording, but the marketing doesn't make it clear that the amp needs to be connected to a speaker at all times. You only find that out when you get it and read the manual or by doing first recording. I would have still bought the amp anyway but it's definitely a downside for me.
Great video!
I have the studio version of the jubilee (bought it when you compared all 3 studios). I’d like a little more dynamic response / “touch sensitivity” in my amp - would you say this gets the job done? Or would getting this in addition to the jubilee be redundant?
I would like to hear this next to the JMP plexi version , but I think I like this one more. I can get plexi kind of sounds mit my 1979 JMP, but this sounds really fantastic as well
Man that time is great! Are you straight into the amp? Nothing between guitar and amp? Is the sound comming from real cabs or studio monitors? Thx
I want one!
I expect a tonex pack soon pls ;)
If I could only have one amp this might be the amp.
Sounds fabulous. Way to go, Zounds.
Great review, thanks! How do you think it compares to the (wonderful) BluGuitar AMP1?
Damn! Mighty fine tones! I loved that Les Paul loaded with the 90’s! It may not be high gain but it’s got crushing power! I’m loving it!
*EDIT*
I do have one question. Can it be used with the di out & no cab or does it always need a cab plugged in? It would be killer to just roll without a cab.
Cheers Rok! I don’t think so, but best to check with Marshall.
You are making one of the best reviews of the gear on this channel ! thanks for it ! what is the difference between this one and SV20H :) I am thinking about buying one of these, thanks !
Cheers, I’d get the SV20 it’s a bit more versatile.
As someone who does amp repair I’d love to see the build quality inside the chassis.
I might open the amp up and shoot a vid.
This amp breaths!
Great amp! I have a JTM30 2x10 Combo...Gigged some very big rooms with it, always impressed the sound guys/gals as well as guitar players.
Soo nice, I wonder if five watts would be too loud to get edge of break up and boost with a overdrive?
Awesome review. I have the SV20H, this will be next. Also, what's song or chords you played in the intro?
I got a question - what is your recording chain, from cab / speaker to mic or IR or whatever. Just curious.
Sounds like “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll”❗️
Sounds fantastic. That intro riff you did reminded me of Best of Both Worlds by Van Halen.
I played along with this video using my PRS HDRX20 and it gets the same tones, I would be interested in you doing a comparison. I really love marshalls and have gigged many of them over the years. I do not currently have one in my studio but this one really interests me. Great playing as always!
That’s interesting, I’ve never tried the HDRX.
Ya I just can’t find a video doing that direct comparison … been searching it just doesn’t exist
Sounds really great, what speaker is used?
I want it. I want it. I just want it. It sounds sooo good, soooo Marshall. That's all I can say. I love Marshall. I gotta sell some guitars to buy this amp. Imm go for the combo amp as I already have a Silver Anniversary Marshall Head.
Nice one.
nice tones! odd observation on my part, but the main light looks like it has a candle like flicker - not sure if that's the camera's FPS causing that or not.
Sweet.
Delicious.
As anybody used the line out? how does it sound? the manual says it has a cab emulation but i can't seem to find anything on it online
That amp sounds amazing!! How are you capturing it? Through a mic’d cab or into a speaker emulation?
All your questions are answered in the vid.
Hey Paul, thank you for this good demo. I have 2 questions. I like this vintage low gain (love gain perhaps) style Marshalls but I also like jcm800 drive sounds. I want to buy both however I can't decide on one thing. I know this jtm sound amazing as a head with proper IRs. How about the combo version? I wish to buy jtm as a combo first then I want to buy jcm800 as a head so that I can have both + a decent cab from the combo. What do you think? I must say that I also have a torpedo live, so having a combo is just for fun, not a necessity. Is it a good plan? 2. question is, which one of them (jtm or jcm800) have more sag and compression? Which one is easier to play (blooming)? Thank you and cheers from Turkiye.
I'm a die hard grew up in the 80's JCM 800 fan but ... this might be the one I actually buy.
Well, you can buy an original 80s jcm for between 1000 and 2000£ but for an original jtm 45 you need to remortgage your house
Ignoring the wattage and the tremolo, would you say that the Bluesbreaker reissue is basically the same amp? I guess the effects loop would be on the "nice to have" list for the BB.
Holy shit! That is nice. Why no humbucker demo?
Holy shit that’s a gorgeous tone! I was all set to get the JCM800 version but now I’m torn.
The JCM version is great! I have it. But most probably you wanna get both. You won’t regret it. I’m getting this JTM too! Gonna ask the wife if it’s ok first. 😂. Cause she ask me what’s the difference otherwise than the color and such.
If you’re in the US, just buy a handwired clone, you can actually repair them and they aren’t as absurdly priced for what they are. They’re in the perfect price point in the EU, but they almost cost twice as much in the US.
@@watersnortmoment3734 I’m in Australia. There’s only about $150US difference between the JCM800 20W and the JTM20. And they cost $950-$1000 US here.
How is the headroom of this amp?
Why I was about to buy a Mini Jubilee because it has the most Headroom out of all Studios.
But the sound of this one is amazing!
Great video will this amp get the jimmy page tone with a tele and les paul
